Christmas or Holiday

The Christmas Window by Tara Randel @TaraRandel #RLFblog #contemporary

It’s official, Christmas is around the corner. Here’s a memory from romance author Tara Randel.

Getting Ready for the Season by Tara Randel

All you have to do is stop in the stores to find Christmas merchandise on the shelves. Which is fine with me. I love to browse and pick up unusual decorations. I probably have more decorations than one household needs, but I can’t resist uncovering something new in my travels. Every year it seems there is a theme that carries over in all the stores. I can never predict what the new “it” item will be, but since I love to roam the aisles, I can’t wait to discover which ideas appeal to me.

There are always the basics; evergreen wreathes, nutcrackers, angels, snowmen, specialty ornaments. Lots of choices for stockings and tree skirts. In the past few years, I’ve been on the lookout for lanterns that I can decorate for different seasons. My favorite is a old-fashioned piece that I fill with small, gold ornaments surrounding a candle. There is no limit to the imagination, no obstacle to creating the perfect scene that warms the house with holiday cheer. All you have to do is check the internet or leaf through a magazine for inspiration.

When I was a child, one of my favorite memories was going to New York City at Christmastime. One year, we attended the lighting of the tree in Rockefeller Center. Another, we saw the Rockettes Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall. Other times, we would simply shop. I remember stopping before the decorated store windows, just in awe of the magical designs that captured the wonderment of the season. Even as an adult, you never forget these wonderful holiday memories. So when I came up with the idea for a story in this year’s Heartwarming Holiday Wishes, I knew I wanted my heroine to be a window designer. Once I came up with a worthy hero, The Christmas Window was born.

Widow CeCe Walker has her hands full taking care of her nephew and staging the holiday window decorations at Dockery’s Department store. The last thing she’s looking for is romance. Jace Keller is in Christmas Town to check out the window featuring his new sportswear line. Sparks fly when the two are at odds over his display, but with a little holiday magic, can this couple find love for Christmas?
