How long have you been writing?

I've been writing since I was fourteen years old. I can't remember a time when I wasn't writing.

What was your first published book?

My first published book was Roses. I wrote Roses when my son was an infant and had his nights and days mixed up. Writing was what got me through the night.

Tell us about your writing space or home office.

This is one of my favorite writing places to date. My home office houses six of my seven bookcases. One of the first thing I did when I moved into this house was put up french doors so I could have the privacy I need from my two cats.

    Anything special about your space?

The view from the window which overlooks a creek.

What do you love most about that area?

It's great that I can shut the door and block out the television or my cats running around the house. This is the first home office that has doors to shut.

What would like to change about your home office?

I'd love to paint and replace the individual bookcases with a built in wall bookcase.

If money was no object, what would your home office look like?

I'd have a roll top desk and a top of the line chair. I would add an extension where I could have a sitting room to read.

What office equipment do you use most, other than your computer?

My printer gets the most action. I print out everything I write at the end of the day. I'm still old school and love to edit on a hard copy.

What do you think is a must have for an efficient office?

You need a window in the room, where you can open it to breath in the fresh air and a desk and comfortable chair. For me, I need an area besides my desk to put my papers and notes.

    Are you a writing mom/dad?

    I'm a writing mom.

How do you juggle writing and family?

My kids are married. So I no longer have an excuse for procrastinating.

What's the last book about writing that you read?

I always refer to Save the Cat!

What book or books about writing do you recommend for new authors?

Best book is Save the Cat! by Blake Snyder.

What do you like to read for relaxation?

I love cuddling up with a good women's fiction or cozy mystery.

Read Climbing Ivy Covered Walls the new #WomensFiction by Fran Thomas @FrancesOThomas #RLFblog #RomanceThree best friends navigate their opposites attract relationships and campus politics in a small Western Pennsylvania town.

Fran, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about Climbing Ivy Covered Walls.

Climbing Ivy Covered Walls by Fran Thomas

Genre Women’s Fiction with strong Romantic Element
Heat rating (based on movie ratings): G

    Teamwork makes the dream work.
Three women with the same goal.

Tomasina, aka Tommy, Lombardi has spent her life trying to be the son her dad always wanted. As the special teams coach of the Bolton College Bulldogs football team, she hoped to make him proud when her team won the division championship. Then her head coach assigned her to work with the neurologist from the town’s hospital on his grant-funded study of concussions. She can’t avoid handsome but infuriating Dr. Wu, but she can’t allow him to derail her career.

Tommy’s not the only woman on staff with man troubles. Motorcycle-riding Sandrina Tutko interned at the library at Stratford-upon-Avon, yet it’s a stuffy English professor who was chosen to head the study abroad program, not her. He may be an expert on Shakespeare, but he’s never even been to Great Britain.

Nichelle Washington is the first African American woman Dean of Students at the college. Opposing the town’s popular fast-food hangout isn’t winning her points with its charismatic owner, but she refuses to allow her students to risk the obesity she faced as a child before she became a vegan.

When Tommy discovers Sandrina and Nichelle, whom she hadn’t seen since high school, are now her colleagues, they join forces to navigate the halls of academe. Maybe it’s not a man’s world after all.

Why did you write this book?

I once worked at a local college, so that setting was something I knew about. My dedication gives a clue about a major plot line. I dedicated the book to the memory of the late, great Mike Webster, and to Dr. Bennet Omalu. I am a lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, so I was familiar with the sad story of Mike Webster, the team’s legendary center, who sustained permanent brain damage and died far too soon as a result of the many concussions he suffered. When Dr. Omalu performed Webster’s autopsy, he discovered a disease called chronic traumatic encephalopathy, one that hadn’t been connected to football players previously. When he published his findings, he was vilified by the NFL. It took them years to institute better concussion protocols. The movie Concussion told Omalu’s story.

What is your favorite genre to read?

Romance because I can’t deal with unhappy endings.

Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?

I’ve always loved Scarlett O’Hara. I wish I had her self-confidence and determination.

What are you working on at the moment?

I am brainstorming my next series.

What books will we see from you in coming months?

The series will be set in a fictitious small Florida town. Many of its residents are practitioners of occult sciences. The main character in the first book in the series is a burned out journalist who inherits a house in the town. Her love interest is the contractor who remodels her house.

A woman tries to convince the natives in Japan that the brutal slaughter of dolphins is inhumane. The only trouble is she doesn’t speak Japanese.

Homa, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about The American Outsider.

The American Outsider by Homa Pourasgari

    Genre Fiction, Adventure, Animal Welfare
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): G

Tessa Walker is a veterinarian with a strong, emotional connection to animals. As a teen, she witnessed the brutal slaughter of dolphins, and as an adult, she decides to do something about it. She leaves her home in Los Angeles and travels to Japan to speak out for them, but little does she know that she is embarking on an adventure that will change her life forever. From the urban metropolis of Tokyo to the historic Kyoto to the culinary city of Osaka, and the seaside town of Taiji, Tessa is determined to help Japanese activists stand up for her beloved mammals.

Along the way, the friendships and bonds that she builds with people in Japan, and the unconditional love of a stranger named Toshiro, open her eyes to a complicated society of conventions and traditions. Yet, her limited knowledge of the language and customs doesn’t deter her from taking on a dangerous mission that could land her in jail.

Why did you write this book?

I care about all creatures. I had no idea how much dolphins suffered at the hands of fishermen until Ric O’Barry’s documentary The Cove came out. Since then, I have been keeping up with the news on Twitter. And then a few years ago, I was reading a newspaper article about the abuse of dolphins in Taiji. I decided to write about something that mattered. And the plight of dolphins seemed to be the perfect choice. Because not everyone has seen The Cove or even thinks about dolphins. I thought writing about these mammals in fiction will reach a new audience in the same way eBook, print or audio reaches different readers.

What is your favorite genre to read?

I like action and adventure, thriller, mystery, classic fiction, literary fiction, and some regency romance and fantasy.

Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?

I don’t really have one favorite character, but here are a few: Aibileen from The Help, Chiyo from Memoires of a Geisha, and Clay Carter from The king of Torts.

What are you working on at the moment?

I’m working on revised editions of my books. I have also started working on a new book.

What books will we see from you in coming months?

Revised Editions of Lemon Curd and The Dawn of Saudi: In search for freedom.
