Is It True: Dark Love Rising by Danita Minnis @Danita_Minnis #RLFblog #PNR

Is It True: Dark Love Rising by Danita Minnis @Danita_Minnis #RLFblog #pnrPlay Is It True with today’s guest Danita Minnis, author of Dark Love Rising, a Paranormal Romance. This is a game in which authors answer yes and no questions. They can elaborate on answers as much as they choose.

First, tell us about your book.

Former MI6 agent Xavier Quinn would say that you’re daft if you think he will stop killing for a living. But that is exactly what is about to happen. Very soon now, Quinn will start killing to stay alive. On the run after taking out the wrong man, Quinn would die a happy man if he could just live long enough to ruin the Parliament member who set him up.

Layla, a 2,000 year old vampire with a moral code, has other plans for the contract killer. When she awakens to the sound of a dark rising, she enlists Quinn to join her on a mission to save humanity from her twin sister Tamara.

But Quinn is just the kind of man that a cold-blooded killer like Tamara needs in her world. A man like Quinn, who never believed in humanity, has only one belief; self-preservation. Being a vampire sounds much better than staying human in the game of kill or be killed. Will he stay alive long enough to find out how Layla’s love can change the equation?

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG13

    Genre: Paranormal Romance

Now, tell us Yes or No for each answer below. Feel free to explain any (or none) of your answers.

    Is it true:

    this is your first book?
No. Dark Love Rising is my fourth paranormal romance novel. I’m hooked on the genre!

this book is part of a series?
Not at the moment. But I’m not sure I’m done with Quinn and Layla. I may delve deeper into their relationship and globe-trotting hunt at a later date.

you lost sleep while writing this book?
I did! In the quiet darkness of my bedroom I could see Layla dancing for Queen Cleopatra, her hands weaving intricate patterns in the air.:)

you did research for this book?
Yes. When researching ancient Egypt for Layla’s background, I kept thinking what it would be like to be Queen Cleopatra’s handmaiden. It must have been a very privileged life.

some characters in this book are not human? (pets for example)
Layla is upset with this question. I can see her fangs on display. She loved being human and her life at Cleopatra’s palace in Alexandria. That was before she was forced into the dark life of a vampire.

this book has more than one genre?
All of my books have more than one genre. Horror, probably from all the Twilight Zone and Hitchcock I imbibed growing up. Historical, love it, can’t help myself. Paranormal: Vamps are my latest thing but I can’t do without a few ghosts, who make an appearance in Dark Love Rising.

you speak more than one language?
    I speak New Yawk.

you grew up where you live now?
    Yes.

    you love to read?
I LOVE to read. All the books I’ve read were research. And I didn’t even know I wanted to be an author until ten years ago. But looking back now, I probably should have known.

    you are never late?
I could say something very dishonest here but let’s just say if you invite me to a party that starts at 7pm, you better tell me it starts at 5pm.

    you love pizza?
Yes. But I don’t love the enhanced pear-shape it tends to give me.

    you love sushi?
I could do without it, but I just think of that pear-shape and raw fish sounds pretty good!

    you have a pet?
The Khan-Man is a member of my family. Yep, I’m part Husky. Love you Khan-puppy!

Four Ways to Spot a Witch by Kryssie Fortune @KryssieFortune #RLFblog #urbanfantasy

Four ways to Spot a Witch by Kryssie Fortune @KryssieFortune #RLFblog #urbanfantasyKryssie Fortune shares four ways to spot a witch.

    1. Is the witch female?

Women are easily tempted to sin. Remember Eve and that damn apple? It taunted her from the tree branch while poor, innocent Adam ignored it. Historically, women were seen as morally week. Making a pact with the devil opened up a women’s wildest fantasies. Sometime, when struggling as an uneducated peasant, those fantasies were all she had.

Forget science and facts. Although… Okay, witches and flying go together. Ever wondered why? Most bread in the middle ages was rye bread, but that goes moldy fast. That mold’s interesting. It’s called Ergot. Too much is lethal. Smaller amounts are hallucinogenic and can give the illusion of flying. Most witch suspects were healers or herbalists, and they’d include Ergot in their potions. Rub that potion on your broomstick and straddle it, pre-flight. Middle ages remember. No underwear. Their bare genitals absorbed the potion, making them writhe and contort as it sent orgasm speeding though their body. Afterwards, they would think they’d been flying

    2. Does the witch have a pet?

Don’t ever be lonely enough to take in a stray cat or dog, no matter how many purrs or puppy-dog eyes they give you. Witch hunters will claim the Devil sent the pet to her. Some believe the creature can shape shift. Historically witch hunters were warned to be on guard for small snakes, birds, cats, rats, dogs, and griffins. It makes you wonder how many griffins they found.

Pets or familiars didn’t only belong to women. During the English Civil war, Prince Rupert of the Rhine commanded the Cavaliers’ cavalry. By the age of 23, he was an experienced soldier, and everywhere he went, he took his huge white poodle, Boy, with him.

Parliamentarians thought the dog was Prince Rupert’s familiar, or even the Devil in disguise. They even claimed the dog could catch bullets in its mouth. Boy held the rank of Sergeant-major-general. After the cavaliers lost the Battle of Marston Moor, parliamentarians shot Boy, some say with a silver bullet. So, devil’s familiar? Werewolf? Or just a well- loved dog? You decide.

    3. Does the witch have a wart?

Women breastfeed babies. Since I can’t find a reference to a female witch catcher, I assume they were male. Men are fascinated with women’s breasts, right? So, if the poor suspect had a third teat somewhere on her body, then that was a secret place for her familiar to suckle. Clearly men are terrified of women, why else would they need a panel of expert females to help find the hidden wart. Or maybe the men didn’t mind looking at the women’s breasts but not at her more private places.

    4. Is the witch annoying?

What? Who decides this one? Does she get drunk and dance naked around the village? Some might call that local color. Does she come begging at the manor door? Surely powerful men had a duty to help the poor. Perhaps, if they were powerful, they were also greedy. What better way to not give alms than to out the poor beggar woman as a witch.

Why my interest in witches? Easy, the Tempest, the heroine in my book, Claimed by the Vampire, Seduced by the Werewolf is one. Since she’s scared to touch her powers, she’s not a very good one, but then there’s the exploding cauldron to consider. Or the time an injured vampire crash landed on her carpet. Or the way her demon death spell bounced off a cluster of spider demons. All things considered, she’s probably best leaving her magic alone.

Kryssie Fortune’s Claimed by the Vampire, Seduced by the Werewolf

After seven centuries, Elias, a former Spartan turned vampire, finds his eternal bride.

Seth, Elias’s werewolf half-brother, scents his mate.

Vampire and werewolf loathe each other. The only thing they agree on is that Tempest is their mate–and they’re not sharing.

A prophecy will force Tempest, a twenty-first-century witch, to choose between them. As the half-brothers vie to win her heart, they teach her about spanking, the way pain heightens pleasure, and the joy of multiple orgasms.

A vampire can’t survive without his fated bride. A werewolf dies if he loses his mate. Their future rests in Tempest’s hands. Which one will she choose?

Note: While loosely linked to the Scattered Siblings series, this book may be read as a standalone story.

Kryssie Fortune writes the sort of hot sexy books she loves to read. If she can sneak a dragon into her paranormal books she will. Her paranormal heroes are muscular werewolves, arrogant Fae, or BDSM loving dragons.

Kryssie likes her contemporary heroes ex-military and dominant. Her heroines are kick ass females who can hold their own against whatever life – or Kryssie – throws at them.

Kryssie’s pet hates are unhappy endings, and a series that end on a cliff hanger.

Her books are all stand-alone even when part of series. Plot always comes before sex, but when her heroines and heroes get together, the sex is explosive and explicit. One review called it downright sensual.

  • New Writer Tips,  Vampire

The Awakening Blog Tour : Tips on Editing #RLFblog #AmWriting #MFRWauthor

An editor is a crucial piece of the publishing puzzle and your relationship can make or break a project. Don’t make the same mistakes I did.

There is something to be said about the rush you get when you finally type the words “THE END” into a manuscript. You have put your heart and soul into the page and for me, it was like I finally reached the top of a mountain. Little did I know it was just the first plateau.

I had been fortunate by this time to have worked with some of the best self-publishing authors in the business and knew that editing was going to be a beast. I was a first time author for goodness sake. I thought it would be perfect to team up with a good friend who wanted to get into editing. This played out like a bad horror movie where everyone could see the monster behind the curtain but you.

I first want to go on record that the editor in question is an amazing editor. She really did help polish The Awakening into what it is today. Also, had I continued working with her it would probably be 1,000 times better. Yet, I know it would have lost the harried style that I was truly going for. We ultimately parted ways amicably and I shelved my book for four years because I lost all confidence in the project.

Finally, I couldn’t stand seeing all the Facebook Memories showing me a project that I truly loved. I went through and got the story edited and finally pushed publish on it. I figure that it was never going to win a Pulitzer, but it is a fun addition to vampire lore that is worth telling.

So what advice do I have for someone who is finishing up their novel?

Do your research! Talk to your editor about what they like to read and do a first chapter edit. It gives both of you the opportunity to see if you want to work together.

Remember that as a self-published author, you are the boss. Don’t let anyone discourage you from publishing if that is what you want to do.

The editor is ultimately out to create the best version of the story. If you have done your research and know that they are a good fit, then trust what they are saying.

    The Awakening by JP Adkins

What would you do if you found out you were genetically a Vampire? Would you embrace it or run? I have found that power is a strange
thing – sometimes it pulls you into places you never knew you would go. I have done things that most have only dreamed of; ran through walls, jumped off buildings but it all seems like folly.
I am what happens when genetics mutate, when the species collide, when the beauty can’t resist the beast. I can’t infect with my kiss, but I can awaken with my seed — if they are a mutation such as I.

How can that be? I was born in Genoa, Italy in the year of our Lord 1642. That’s

    About the Book

Title Scarlet Nights 3: Feasting With the Enemy
    Genre Erotic Vampire Romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

After more than a century sharing a bed and fighting at each other’s backs, vampire warriors Blair and May have forged an unbreakable bond.
Now the mysterious New Reign is seeking additional members. Their philosophy–recruit or destroy. Using mind manipulation, they stir up dark memories from the past to tempt Blair and May into killing each other.
Given the chance to resurrect his murdered first wife and children, will Blair now sacrifice the woman he loves–his wife and blood child, May?Stressing The Heroine

Every heroine has a story. She has a background, a history, and a past. This interview allows us to meet a heroine and get to know her better, by focusing on how she handles being relaxed, as well as how she handles stress.

    The Heroine’s Relaxed Side

This heroine is at a party. Considering her story, describe the party.
The party is located at the Cock and the Pussy Willow, an exclusive vampire club in London. It’s a masquerade party and takes place in the lounge section of the club. May and her husband, Blair, are dressed in 1920s attire that they have actually kept in storage from that era.
How does the heroine feel about being this particular party, and what body language is she displaying that gives it away?
May is enjoying herself immensely. Many of her and Blair’s old friends are at the party and she is spending time, relaxing on one of the couches or dancing with Blair.
Is she more likely to mingle or remain aloof?
May enjoys mingling with her friends. She likes to have fun, but she doesn’t feel the need to be the center of attention. She’ll dance and share jokes, but won’t make a spectacle of herself.
If she drinks, what is her drink of choice at this party?
Like most vampires, she has a taste for blood-laced wine.
How much drink is her usual?
She’ll have one or two. Neither May nor Blair drink to excess.
The heroine figures out where the hiding places are and then goes there. Is it to hide, to avoid someone, or to go drag a friend back to the party?
It’s to share some private moments with her husband, Blair. They’ve been hanging around the Cock and the Pussy Willow for so many decades that they know the best hiding spots.
Is she likely to latch onto a friend and stay with him/her and ignore others, or is she the friend that others latch onto?
She and Blair are quite close and will probably be together for most of the party. They’ll also spend time with their friends, in particular the club’s owner, Daria, and Blair’s blood father, Hamilton. Typically, May isn’t the sort to latch on to others.
If someone picked a fight at this party, how is the heroine going to handle it?
It depends on who’s involved. She might jump in to help or she might ignore it completely.
Is the heroine the one most likely to get tossed out of the party, or the one who does the tossing?
Again, it depends. If she and Blair get into an argument, Daria might toss them both out.
Will she know when to leave, or stay late and make a nuisance of herself?
May not only will know when to leave, but she and Blair will might say goodnight early, depending on their plans or if they get called away on duty.

    The Heroine’s Stressed Out Side

How does the heroine handle it if the cops or some other authority figure pulls her aside when she was blameless in a situation?
May is a warrior in the battle against evil vampires, so usually she and Blair are the authority figures. Daria rules the vampire warriors of London, so if she called May out, May would be respectful, but she wouldn’t be shy about explaining her side of the story. It’s happened many times before.
How does the heroine react to hearing a scream?
May’s first instinct is to investigate. She’s always prepared to handle a potentially dangerous situation.
If she sees someone being assaulted, what is the FIRST thing that crosses her mind?
Stop the fight and find out what’s going on.
If she sees someone being assaulted, what is the FIRST thing she does?
She’ll most likely do what crosses her mind and step in, especially if she sees a vampire attacking a human.
This heroine attempts to rescue someone and realizes that she is in over her head. The odds are against her and there is no way out. She is going to get her butt handed to her. What does she do?
May won’t go down without a fight. She’ll do her best to hold them off while sending out a telepathic call for backup. Hopefully Blair, Daria or another warrior will be nearby to help.
The heroine runs into the one person from her past she wanted to avoid. She can’t get out of the situation and must interact with him/her in some way. What does she do?
The leader of the New Reign is someone she never wants to meet again, but if she does, she’ll stand her ground and use the psychic skills she has learned from Blair, Disdain and her other mentors to prevent him from manipulating her mind.
Someone younger than the heroine is in charge of the situation, and they are handling it badly, perhaps bungling things. How does the heroine deal with it?
She’ll do her best to help them because not too long ago (at least by vampire standards), she was the overzealous novice in need of help. May will attempt to be discreet at first, taking the person aside, if possible, to offer advice. If they refuse, she might let them get into trouble so they’ll learn from their own mistakes, or if it’s a dangerous situation, she’ll overrule their decisions and do what she must to keep people safe.
The heroine is in physical pain but must bear up under it and keep going. What does she tell herself in order to get through the situation?
This happened recently when May suffered a gunshot wound. It wasn’t serious, but painful. She continued fighting and managed to subdue her enemy. She told herself to rely on her training, not to mention she had a personal grudge against this person that made her refuse to give in.
What mentor’s words come to mind in a bad situation?
She has had several excellent mentors, so it would depend on the exact situation. If faced with the leader of the New Reign, she’ll most likely rely on the teachings of Disdain, however.
What lesson from her past gets her through a stressful situation?
When she first met Blair, she was a victim of the way society treated lower class women during that era. Blair taught her how to defend herself and that she could do just about anything she put her mind to. It’s that lesson that has not only helped her survive many difficult situations, but has also saved Blair’s life on several occasions.
