Read The Ghost of Morley Manor the new #ParanormalRomance by Tricia Schneider @TriciaSchneider #RLFblog #HistoricalParanormalA woman strikes a bargain with a ghost in Tricia Schneider’s new paranormal romance, The Ghost of Morley Manor. Will they find the hidden jewels?

Tricia, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about The Ghost of Morley Manor.

The Ghost of Morley Manor by Tricia Schneider

    Genre: Historical Paranormal Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

When Alice Worthington’s father dies, he leaves Morley Manor and all his debt to her and her younger brother. Desperate to find a way to pay the creditors, Alice performs a séance to contact the spirit of the last man to have seen the jewels rumored to be hidden within her home.

Sir Nicholas, a two-hundred-year-old roguish ghost, strikes a bargain with Alice. Find his earthly remains and bury them in consecrated ground. Only then will he reveal the location of the hidden jewels. Alice agrees not knowing when the time comes, she must decide between saving her home or saving the soul of the charming ghost who haunts Morley Manor.

Why did you write this book?

I’ve always been fascinated by ghost stories. When I was a child, I read every book I could find involving ghosts. From hauntings to ghost-hunting to communicating with spirits, anything I could find. As an adult, I searched for paranormal romances with ghosts as characters, either main or secondary. Ghost romances are sometimes difficult to find, but I’ve always been entertained by these kinds of books. What could be more tragic and suspenseful than falling in love with a ghost? How can you make that relationship work? Where is their happily-ever-after? After reading all I could find, I decided to write my own. The Ghost of Morley Manor isn’t the first ghost romance I’ve written. In fact, I have several. I also doubt it will be the last!

What is your favorite genre to read?

Anything romance! As long as it has a happily-ever-after by the last chapter, I’ll read it. Within the romance genre, I’ve always leaned toward paranormal and gothic romances more than anything else. Mixing the supernatural with romance is totally my jam!

Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?

There are so many favorites, but I think Jane Eyre is on the top of my list. She’s the main character of Charlotte Bronte’s novel, Jane Eyre. This wasn’t the first gothic romance I ever read, but it was one I fell in love with completely. Although there wasn’t a ghost in that novel, the story still gave that eerie, chilling feeling of mystery, suspense and terror. And I desperately wanted Jane to find her happily-ever-after with Mr. Rochester. They both deserved it.

What are you working on at the moment?

I have several shifter romances in the works as I’m continuing a series that I started about a year ago that got lost amid the chaos of the pandemic. I’m working on getting that series back on track. Plus, I’m outlining more alien romances for the future. I adore ghosts, but aliens and shifters are most definitely swoon-worthy, too! And I like to mix things up!

What books will we see from you in coming months?

I don’t have a release date yet, but the extended version of Tempting Benjamin is nearly complete. I’ll probably have that out by the new year. That’s part of The Cougar Shifters series and was featured as a novella in a limited-edition boxed set last year.

I also have another ghostly romance short story called A Haunting for Christmas which will be featured in Tis the Season for Romance Anthology available in November 2021.

And I’m part of two shifter romance boxed set collections, Alpha Shifters Furever and Shifting Hearts, that will be releasing early in 2022.

Our heroes and heroines will satisfy your cravings for every kind of alien romance, whether you prefer slow-burn or fast, one hot hero or two…or more.

Get this steamy new collection of alien romances from the best, new, and up-and-coming voices in sci-fi romance.

What species/races of people are in your book?

There are three different kinds of people in my story. Humans from Earth and Eben from Ebenara who are allies. And then there’s the Rhan. They are an invading alien species.

Do you have non-sentient creatures or animals in your story? If so, what are they?

The planet, Adams Delta 6, is filled with an assortment of animals and creatures some of which are hunted by the humans living there for food. One creature is a pest called a grosnick. It’s an annoying rodent-like animal.

    Language and Culture

This section describes languages and culture in your story world.

What languages are spoken in your story universe?

The two main languages are Earth English and the alien language from Ebenara.

If you created a language for the story, what is it called?

The people on Ebenara speak Eben.

Please give us a few words in this language and their translation.

Shalokka means thank you. It’s one of the few words Thalassa knows.

In the culture of your story world, what is different from ours?

This story takes place in the future where planets are being colonized by humans and aliens alike. Earth has also been introduced to other alien species by this time, so there are some alliances between the species. There is some intermingling going on between the compatible species. Fashion has changed on the colony planets. Some of the colonists make their own clothing, but they don’t have much color. Mostly, browns and grays.

What rights (such as equality) are challenges for your characters?

The challenges the characters in this story world are facing is the right to live. The Rhan are invading the galaxy and humans are their food source.

Read the science fiction romance novel Alien Embrace: A Limited Edition Collection of Alien Romances by Tricia Schneider @TriciaSchneider #RLFblog #SciFi #Romance

    Story Setting

Writers usually know more about their story world than they can say in a book. This is your chance to show off things you couldn’t say or had to imply rather than state.

Describe one of the worlds where your story takes place.

Adams Delta 6 is a colony planet that is Earth-like in appearance, but the seasons there are extremely short and there’s not as much snowfall. There are mountains filled with evergreen-like forests and rivers. Also, cave systems within the mountains.

Tell us about the age of the culture in your story, i.e., are the people part of an ancient civilization, a newly formed group within an established culture, pioneer colonists, etc.

The story takes place after the planet has been evacuated, but it began as a pioneer colony filled with scientists and other adventurers who wanted a start to a new life. The colonists were only there for about a decade before the deadly Rhan became a threat and they were forced to leave. Thalassa and her son were left behind.

What food or drink is available to your characters?

Thalassa and her son scavenged the supplies left behind by the colonists. In addition, they hunt and grow a garden with fruits and vegetables to survive.

In what ways was it helpful to have a map (or sketch of one) for your story?

I sketched a simple drawing of the forest where Thalassa and her husband built their home when they first arrived on Adams Delta 6. I also mapped out the cave where the colonists first established their base of operations, and also where Zarick’s spaceship crashed.

    Character Physiology

Whether your characters are humans on a new world, aliens on our world, or something in between, this section discusses their physical nature.

What are the physical characteristics of the race/species of your main characters?

Thalassa is a human woman. But the hero, Zarick, is an Eben warrior. He is taller than the average human male. He is mostly humanoid in appearance except his skin is shaded in purples, blues and greens.

What physical differences exist in the way your characters communicate (i.e., telepathy, empathic abilities, etc.) with each other?

There is a language barrier between Thalassa and Zarick because they’ve become reliant on technology to communicate. They typically use translation devices. But the translation device on Adams Delta 6 is no longer functional since the evacuation and when Zarick crashes his ship, his communication devices are damaged. During the story, they must learn to communicate and understand each other without help from those devices.

    Sharing World Building Expertise

This section lets you share things you learned while writing.

Please give us three tips you find helpful when creating a story world:

The first thing any writer should do before creating a story is read. Read, read, read. Read as much as you can in the genre you want to write. And then brainstorm. I play the what if game. What if an alien crashed on an abandoned planet? What if it wasn’t completely abandoned? What if a woman was left behind? While I’m brainstorming and writing, I listen to music. The music helps drown the noise and the distractions of the real world so I can lose myself in creating my story world.

When you researched for your story setting, what kinds of things did you learn?

Well, I didn’t much research the setting as create it. I imagined that humans in the future would seek out planets that had all the elements similar with Earth. Breathable air, water, reliable food sources so they wouldn’t have to rely solely on shipments from Earth. Colonizing such planets made sense, so I set my story on one.

What things should writers avoid when building a science fiction world?

I try not to write about the technical things that I don’t understand. I’m not a scientist. I love reading science fiction, but I don’t want to get it wrong when I write it, so I don’t include how the technology works or why it works. I leave that up to the imagination.

Share a resource you found helpful when researching for your story.

I don’t have anything specific. Research for this story consisted of a lifetime of watching sci-fi TV shows and movies, as well as reading a lot of romance and science fiction books. Also, I took my kids to visit a nearby museum with a planetarium. While learning about the planets, stars and constellations, my imagination took flight.

Know the Heroine from A Very Alien Christmas by Tricia Schneider @TriciaSchneider #RLFblog #holidayromance

An alien and an elf work together to save Christmas in Tricia Schneider’s newest sci-fi holiday romance novella in A Very Alien Christmas: A Limited Edition Collection of Holiday Alien Romances.

Tricia, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! We’re excited to find out more about your heroine, but first, tell us about The Alien and the Elf inside A Very Alien Christmas: A Limited Edition Collection of Holiday Alien Romance.

The Alien and the Elf by Tricia Schneider

    Genre Holiday Sci-Fi Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

My name is Noelle, and I’m an elf. I was minding my own business, testing a newly installed engine on Santa’s sleigh when it suffered a slight malfunction, and I found myself spiraling out of control.

Then a bright beam of light hits, and I’m taken onboard a spaceship. Jaxar is a sexy, to-die-for, green-skinned alien who thinks I’m intruding on his salvage.

He’s never met an elf. Well, I’ve never met an alien. With no way to get home, I need Jaxar’s help.

Can we work together to fix Santa’s sleigh in time to save Christmas?

It’s beginning to look a lot like … aliens for Christmas!

Get ready to set your holiday thrusters to hot! If you love alien romances, you’ll adore this brand-new collection of steamy alien novellas and short stories by New York Times, USA Today, and international bestselling authors.

Know the Heroine from A Very Alien Christmas

Here are some fun questions to help us know your heroine.

It’s late, she’s bored. What does she do?

Noelle likes to tinker. When she’s bored, she goes into Santa’s workshop and fixes things like broken toys or malfunctioning equipment. She also likes to invent things. She’ll take out a sketch pad and draw her ideas.

What kind of food would she impulse buy if hungry?

    Peppermint candy canes

Describe the kind of clothes she prefers to wear.

Standard issue elf clothing. Everything is green, red and white. Sometimes with a combination of stripes.

Does she know how to fix things?

She loves to fix things! It’s her job! She’s passionate about taking things apart to see how they work and then assembling it back together. She’s always full of ideas on how to make things work more efficiently.

She tried to do something and it went badly. Tell us about it.

Noelle finally talked Santa and the head elf into installing a new engine in the sleigh. Something that doesn’t require the magic reindeer for flight. She’s testing the engines when something goes wrong mid-flight and the engines stall. Smoke billows and she and the sleigh plummet to the Earth. Thankfully, Jaxar is in the area with his spaceship and beams her aboard.

How does she act around children she doesn’t know?

She loves children! She helps Santa deliver presents every year to children she doesn’t know. It pleases her beyond belief to make children happy.

What is she like first thing in the morning?

Noelle can be a bit of a grump until she has her peppermint mocha latte. Yes, even in the North Pole they drink coffee.

How does she act around people who don’t know what she is?

She doesn’t get away from the North Pole often, but when she does, as long as she keeps a hat on her head to cover her pointed elf ears, she can pass for human. She has a bubbly, optimistic attitude and doesn’t shy away from meeting new people… or aliens.

Will she let a worker handle things or do it herself?

Noelle is a team player. While she does tend to take control of a situation, she knows protocol. She didn’t take it upon herself to tinker with Santa’s sleigh. She got permission from the big boss first. After that, she enjoyed working on the new engine, but she didn’t work alone.

    Earrings/piercings/tattoos or unadorned skin?

No earrings or other piercings. She thought once about getting a candy cane tattooed on her behind, but never went through with it.

    Personal vehicle or public transport?

Santa’s sleigh isn’t her personal vehicle, but he’s been known to let his elves take it for a spin now and again. As long as they aren’t seen by humans.

    Recycle or toss?

Always recycle. Noelle is excellent at fixing or re-purposing broken toys and other items. She never throws anything away.

Thanks for helping us get to know your heroine!

    QUICK

    What’s your favorite book?…

I have way too many favorites when it comes to books, but the first that comes to mind is Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. It’s a gothic romance classic that I always enjoy re-reading.

    What’s a genre you want to write?…

While I love writing romances because of the guaranteed happily-ever-after, I would enjoy writing urban fantasy, too.

Best writing advice you ever heard?…

Read. Pick the type of book you want to write and read everything you can. If you want to write mystery, read 20 mystery books. Is romance your thing? Then read as much of the romance genre as you can. You can pick up a lot by simply reading in that genre. It’s a great place to start.

What’s the title and genre of your first book, and where can we find it?

The Witch and the Wolf is a paranormal romance published by The Wild Rose Press and can be found at Amazon and Barnes & Noble. http://www.triciaschneider.com/books/paranormal-romance/the-witch-and-the-wolf/

    Easy

Coffee or tea? Hot tea. Lavender and honey tea is my favorite, but mostly any green tea.

Sit down dinner or drive through? Drive thru. Sit down dinners are saved for special occasions.

Fold laundry immediately or let it sit? Fold it. I can’t stand wrinkles.

Unload dishwasher right away or use dishes from it? Sadly, my dishwasher broke three years ago. I have to hand wash dishes which is not fun with four kids who feel the need to get a new cup every time they need a drink. But, when it was working, I would unload it immediately.

Driving for pleasure or avoid driving anywhere? Driving for pleasure. I love to visit new places. Sometimes I go for a ride with no destination in mind. Just going where the road takes me.

    Talk or text? Talk.

    Emoji or smilie? Emoji

    What is your personality type?

I’m an introvert with extrovert tendencies. I know, it probably doesn’t make sense. When I was a kid, I was painfully shy with people. I was quiet and didn’t talk much. After I began working at Waldenbooks, I was forced into a situation where I had to talk to people to sell them books. I discovered the art of conversation and it’s a skill I’m grateful to have learned. Now, I can talk to anyone about anything, but I still prefer to keep to myself. I love to socialize, but I also love to be alone.

What was your favorite childhood game?

I spent many nights with my family playing boardgames and card games. Some of my favorites were Trivial Pursuit and Scrabble. Each of these games were difficult since I was no older than 11 years old, but I still loved them. They were challenging, and I love challenges. Also, Uno and Pokeno. My grandfather was fun to play any card game with as he always made me laugh myself silly.

What is your favorite subject to talk about?

I’m a mother of four children, so anything about kids is probably my easiest topic to talk about. Anyone with children can go on and on about their kids! But I love learning and sharing things I learned, so I have many interests such as books and literature, TV shows and movies, history, science, art, quantum physics, religion, and the supernatural. But not math. I don’t want to talk about math. Especially common core math. *shudders*

With Halloween right around the corner, my favorite topic at the moment is the supernatural! If you ever want to strike up a conversation with me, tell me your ghost stories! I love, love, love talking about the paranormal. Give me ghosts, cryptids, vampires, werewolves, witches and spells, aliens and UFO’s. Anything that has a mysterious supernatural element to it. I will talk about it all! I have my own interesting stories to share and I belong to a few paranormal groups with like-minded people. Too many strange and unexplainable things have happened during my life, so rest assured, I am a believer!

    What is your favorite book?

Nope. Can’t narrow it down to just one. Skip!

    What is your favorite meal?

Grilled salmon with rice and vegetables. Oh, it’s delicious! I could eat this every day. Don’t forget to follow that meal with dessert! A nice warm brownie covered with mocha ice cream, hot fudge, whipped cream and a cherry on top. Heaven!

What made you want to be a writer?

I must have been born reading. I don’t ever remember not having books in my home. Even the pictures I drew when I was a child all had stories to tell. I never wanted to be a writer, I just am. It’s a part of me. I always wrote for fun. In a creative writing class during my senior year in high school, my teacher urged me to consider publication. He believed I had talent. It was the first time in my life that I thought of writing as a possible career choice.

What are your favorite books for writing advice?

I’ve got a couple of these which you can find if you check out my Goodreads bookshelf labeled writing-reference.

How I Write: Secrets of a Bestselling Author by Janet Evanovich

On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft by Stephen King

The Writer’s Journey: Mythic Structure for Writers by Christopher Vogler

Complete Writer’s Guide to Heroes and Heroines: Sixteen Master Archetypes by Tami D. Cowden

GMC: Goal, Motivation and Conflict: The Building Blocks of Good Fiction by Debra Dixon

Any of Chris Fox’s Write Faster, Write Smarter series

    Any of Joanna Penn’s books

What’s your best advice for a new writer?

Read. Read. Read. There’s so much you can learn by simply reading the kinds of books that you want to write. Never stop reading. And don’t give up!

What are your writing goals for the next year or so?

I’ve recently joined a writer’s group on Facebook that has inspired me to push my writing abilities. In that group, I’ve joined several multi-author boxed sets. For 2021, I’m all about writing shifters and alien romances. Between my own series and the stories that I’m writing for the boxed sets, it’s going to be a busy, busy year! I’m looking forward to it!
