Is It True: Lord Misery by Sydney Jane Baily @sydneyjanebaily #RLFblog #historicalromanceWelcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Let’s play Is It True with today’s guest, Sydney Jane Baily, author of Lord Misery, a historical romance. This is a game with yes and no questions. Writers can elaborate on answers as much as they choose.

Lord Misery by Sydney Jane Baily

    Genre Historical Romance, Victorian

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG-13

    A devastated viscount…

Jameson Carlyle Turner’s life has been topsy-turvy, from illegitimacy to titled nobility, from a solitary gambler to a happily married husband. When bent steel and a horrific wreckage upend his world, he buries his beloved along with his heart and his happiness.

A lady who won’t take no for an answer…

Maisie Darrow understands grief all too well. She also knows the only way to move on with one’s life is to jump back in with both feet. Longing to help the distraught viscount, she falls irrevocably in love with him, only to have her hopes dashed by a mysterious letter from home.

When she sets out on a seemingly reckless and treacherous path, Jameson vows neither time, nor Maisie’s warm attention will wear down his grief-hardened walls, for he knows he cannot survive another blow. Can she convince him to risk his heart again despite the swirling winds of uncertainty?

    Is it true:

    this is your first book?

False, this is about my thirteenth book.

this book is part of a series?

True, Book 5 of the Beastly Lords, but totally stand-alone story as all my books are.

you lost sleep while writing this book?

True, this was a tough book to write, with grief and holding on to the past and renewal and new love. Wanted to handle it sensitively and realistically.

you did research for this book?

True, I always research and learn new things, for instance a man didn’t have to wear black in Victorian times to show his grief, even if his spouse died, but if he remarried during the first year or so after his wife died, the new wife would have to be shrouded in black mourning clothing to show respect for the deceased.

some characters in this book are not human? (pets for example)

True, there are horses and some lovely kittens.

this book has more than one genre?

    False.

you speak more than one language?

    True, English and French.

you grew up where you live now?

False, I grew up in Southern California and in London, England. I now live in New England.

    you love to read?

    True!

    you are never late?

    False. Bad habit.

    you love pizza?

True, one of my favorite foods, along with Mexican and Indian food.

    you love sushi?

False, I wouldn’t say love, and I am a bit squeamish, but I have had some “cooked” sushi that I really enjoyed.

    you have a pet?

True, currently my dog, Perry, and my cat, Sabby McFlabby.

Fiction Furbaby: Meet Leo from Lord Corsair by Sydney Jane Baily @SydneyJaneBaily @RobsRescues #RLFblog #PetsSydney Jane Baily, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! We support all furbabies, real life or fictional. We want to know all about your Fiction Furbaby, but first, please tell us about your book.

Lord Corsair by Sydney Jane Baily

    Genre Victorian
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG
Miss Beryl Angsley, relishing a final few months of freedom before marriage, accompanies her father across the globe on a mission of diplomacy only to find herself kidnapped by Chinese pirates in the South China Sea.
British privateer, Philip Carruthers, on a secret undertaking for Queen Victoria, has at last found the treasure he’s sought for two years. Unfortunately, he also finds a captive Englishwoman.
Duty-bound to rescue her, he risks his ship, his crew, and his cat to return Lady Angsley to her father. In the midst of a dangerous world of pistols and plunder, Captain Carruthers goes from privateer to pirate in order to steal the heart of a lady.

    Meet Leo from Lord Corsair

    Full name: Leo, the Cat
    Nickname: Leo
    Gender: Male
    Species: Domestic Short Hair
    Physical description: Stout, orange tabby
Relationship to main character: Loyal friend, shipmate, and helper to Lord Corsair
Relationship to the villain/antagonist: Attacks villain to save heroine
Where this furbaby came from: Belonged to Lord Corsair’s twin brother who died in a carriage accident
Do you have any working or service animals in your stories? Tell us about them.
Leo is a working crewmember, keeping the mouse population down onboard ship, as well as happily jumping onto both enemy vessels and enemies in general.
What inspired you to create this character?
My own dear cat, Leo, part Maine Coon, whom I found under a lilac bush one harsh winter. A gentle soul, to be sure but fierce when necessary.
What does the main character think about this furbaby?
Lord Corsair inherited his brother’s cat upon his twin’s death. He has mixed emotions but wouldn’t part with him for anything. Grudgingly admires the cat, but is occasionally at the receiving end of the cat’s temper.
What does the villain/antagonist think about this furbaby?
My villains do not like cats! Leo vanquishes one particular bad guy in an alley.
How do other characters react to or interact with this furbaby?
Leo takes to Beryl, our heroine, as soon as she boards ship, much to Lord Corsair’s amazement.
What does this furbaby add to the story?
Warmth and humor, and Leo shows us the hero’s softer side. Also, without Leo, the heroine might have met a terrible end.

    About Your Pet’s Name

Fiction Furbaby: Meet Leo from Lord Corsair by Sydney Jane Baily @SydneyJaneBaily @RobsRescues #RLFblog #PetsThis post is called Fiction Furbaby, but perhaps your own pet does not have fur. If you have a pet that has fins, wings, scales, or other features, please tell us about them here.
I currently have one rescue dog, Perry, from Tennessee, and one tuxedo cat, Sabby, whom we adopted from a shelter. We used to have four cats, but sadly, the others have passed away. These two get along well by ignoring each other mostly.
Which, if any of the pets in your writing are modeled after your own pets? In what way?
Leo from Lord Corsair was definitely modeled after my real-life cat, Leo, though my Leo wouldn’t have been happy leaving home or going on adventures, except in the back yard.
What do your pets do when you are writing?
Perry is under my desk right now. Sabby is a cat, meaning she does whatever she wants whenever she wants.
Describe a toy or favorite item your pet loves.
    Perry, any tennis ball
Sabby, leave me alone, I’m a cat.

    An Inescapable Attraction @sydneyjanebaily #RLFblog #historical

    Inescapable Attraction
Cover Love at Romance Lives Forever is a short intro to a
book and includes a cover, blurb, buy links, and social media contacts for the
author. Today’s featured book is An Inescapable Attraction (the Sanborn-Malloy series,
Book Three), an historical novel by Sydney Jane Baily.
In a year of roaming the West, angel-faced, sharp-tongued Eliza
encounters a world of card sharks and low-life gamesters, all the while trying to
forget the searing brand of one man’s fiery kisses. In a dangerous game of high-stakes
poker, she tangles with the wrong gambler and finds herself in a heap of trouble.
With heartache haunting her relentlessly and a killer on her trail, she has no choice
    but to run.
Thaddeus Sanborn has always had a weakness for the girl he calls
Ellie. Even though she cut him to the quick by getting engaged to his childhood
friend, she’s the only female who’s ever kept his interest smoldering at a scorching
level. When she steams unexpectedly into his carefree life, derailing his plans
for getting rich, he’s stunned by the trouble that accompanies her. But he’ll do
just about anything—even kill—to protect her.
Dangerous men, Indian trackers, and wanton women populate the
landscape—while steam trains, swift horses, and a lively riverboat keep Eliza and
Thaddeus on the move. Though they do their best to escape the peril that’s always
merely a hoofbeat behind, they can never run away from their own Inescapable Attraction.
