SEAL Michael Tarik Taking Fire @lindsaymckenna #RLFblog #militaryromance

    Zone of Fire
    by Lindsay McKenna
Zone Of Fire, Taking Fire , On Fire: a new innovative way to
tell a story by Lindsay McKenna, HQN, Harlequin

    2. Taking Fire, HQN, 2.25.2015. Shadow
Warriors series pocket book and ebook.
    3. On Fire, HQN, Ebook only, Shadow Warriors Series, Director’s
    Cut to Taking Fire
    Pub. date: 3.1.2015
I am working with Harlequin to do
something rather innovative for my many loyal readers. I got a lot of emails begging
me to right a novella epilogue for Never Surrender (Bay and Gabe, the main characters).
I did that, but I also wanted to take a secondary from that book, Mike Tarik, and
add him to this 11,000 word novella. I married the two of them into it so that the
novella was not only an epilogue regarding “what happened next to Bay and Gabe,”
but also became a bridge to Mike’s book, Taking Fire.
There are actually THREE books, with
Zone Of Fire, 2.1.2015 coming out first to set up Mike’s book. Then, on 2.25.2015,
Taking Fire comes out and is Mike and Khatereh’s story. It is followed on 3.1.2015
by On Fire, Ebook only. It is what I term a “director’s cut” to their
story. Unfortunately, in paperbacks, a 100,000 words is the max amount one can write
about a story. I over ran that mark by roughly 40,000 words! And I did not want
to delete it and forget it. My editor, Tara Gavin, agreed and so did Harlequin.
This is how these three books are
like boxcars in a row on a train, kind of thing. It’s a creative and new way to
present characters and their stories. And I hope you enjoy them. Do let me know?
Taking Fire is a story of US Navy
SEAL, Mike Tarik, who is an American citizen, but 1/2 Saudi and 1/2 American, through
his mother, Annie. His father is a world renown cardiac surgeon. Dr. Bedir Tarik
met his wife, Annie, over in Saudi Arabia where she was an American school teacher.
Bedir, who is Sufi, believes firmly that love is the only way to peace and harmony
in the world. He falls in love with Annie, and they marry in Riyadh. Later, she
gets pregnant with Mike and he is born in San Diego, California.
Bedir takes his young son over to
Saudi Arabia for three weeks every year. He has a charity in Riyadh, and he and
Mike take a pickup and distribute clothes, food and money to the poor at the fringes
of that city, as well as to many others areas. He teaches his son generosity, giving
back and being grateful for what he has.
Mike grows up wanting to become a
Navy SEAL. Bedir has already shown him his family’s lineage and tells his warrior
son that he has the genes of his warrior great-grandfather. Mike’s view on it is
that he wants to help the poor and oppressed, to rid them of tyrants who kill or
make their lives miserable. When he deploys to Afghanistan with Seal Team 3, he
works with NGO charities to bring food, clothing, and shoes to the desperately poor
Afghan villages near where his team is located.
He carries on his father’s belief
in always helping those who have less. But on one mission, he finds himself in need.
He and his four-man SEAL team are out on a mission. And it is a black ops US Marine
Corps sniper who saves his team and him from a deadly ambush. And she’s a woman!
Mike’s entire life changes in the moment he is injured and saved by this mysterious
operator who cares for him deep in the cave systems of the Hindu Kush Mountains
    near the Pakistan border.
    Sergeant Khatera Shinwari is wary
of this SEAL, must maintain her deep black ops cover and although she’s powerfully
drawn to Mike, there is no way she can act upon it. Mike, before he’s picked up
by a Night Stalker helicopter once he’s ready to leave her care for FOB Bravo, promises
her, he will see her again.
Khat doesn’t believe him, as much
as she wished she could. Her life is not her own. Her loyalty is to her Afghan people,
not to a single man like Mike. But life has a funny way of changing up, and Mike
isn’t about to just let this enigmatic, beautiful woman disappear out of his life.
    No way…..
I had great fun creating this story
and it’s unlike anything my readers have read. I’m very excited about it, about
the sympathetic characters that you are sure to cheer on! And toward that end? I’ve
created a “Director’s Cut” of a much longer ending to Taking Fire. Don’t
worry, the book you’ve bought is complete with an HEA ending. But if you want to
know more of “what else” happened,” then On Fire, HQN, 5.1.2015,
digital only, 40,000 words long and $2.99, will be available to you to continue
their twisting and dangerous destiny with one another! And an HEA ending, of course!

    Sisters, Veterans, Authors: @DelilahDevlin and @ellejamesauthor #RLFblog

Please join me in welcoming military author and former
military woman Elle James to the Romance Lives Forever blog. She’s going to
share with you today about her sister, author Delilah Devlin, also a former
military woman. Take it away, Elle! And thank you for your service. As a former
Navy vet myself, I know the sacrifice it took.
Born and raised as children of a career Air Force man, it was
only natural that my sister and I would follow in my father’s footsteps and join
the military. Because my father retired in a small town with a public university
that only had Army ROTC, my sister and I joined the Army ROTC program. We loved
the discipline and challenge of being a part of the military and fully embraced
    the lifestyle.
My sister graduated and went right into the U.S. Army. I married
in college and joined the U.S. Army Reserves and later branch transferred to the
U.S. Air Force Reserves. We are now both retired and writing full time, but the
military is still very near and dear to our hearts. We loved being a part of something
bigger than ourselves, serving this great country and protecting our freedom.
This veterans day we teamed with a great group of authors who
write military romances to produce a boxed set of military romances in honor of
Veterans Day and all the brave men and women who help to protect our nation.

Character Interview: SEAL Calvin Cooper @sharonlhamilton #RLFblog

    Fallen SEAL Legacy

In a departure from our usual format today, author Sharon
Hamilton is interviewing her character Nebraska
born and bred Navy SEAL Calvin “Coop” Cooper. After his own family has perished
in a tornado, Cooper is ordered to meet the family of a prominent San Diego psychiatrist. The
doctor’s brother is a fallen SEAL medic who died in Grenada. There, Cooper meets Libby Brownlee,
the beautiful niece of this fallen hero. Heavily influenced by her father, “We don’t
speak military here,” is her comment about the military in general, and the SEAL
    community in particular.

What starts out as a frosty debate between two people privately
dealing with their own personal grief, turns into a passionate affair neither expected.
Just as Cooper realizes perhaps Libby is the woman he’s always been looking for,
she is snatched out from under him by a psychopathic killer bent on revenge.
Dr. Brownlee is forced to rely on Cooper’s help, along with his
buddies in SEAL Team 3. Will Cooper be able to survive the loss of the woman he
loves, or will his self sacrifice be enough to keep her safe?

    Interview

Today I am pleased to do a character interview with Special
Operator (SO) Calvin Cooper, from SEAL Team 3, based in San Diego, California. I’ve been given a little cheat sheet on him, and so I’m going
to ask him some questions he probably wasn’t expecting.
Sharon: Tell me a bit about yourself and your
    background.
    Cooper: I was born
    in Nebraska, near
Pender. My family was third generation farmers, having come over from Denmark in the early
1900’s. When I was little, my great grandfather used to read Hans Christian Andersen
    stories to me at bedtime.
Sharon: Those sound like wonderful memories. What
did you like best about growing up on a farm?
    Cooper: The way the
land looks after you’ve plowed it, the smell of the soil and the early morning sunlight.
Summers we worked sun up to sunset. Some day I hope to move back there, when the
    time is right.
Sharon: I understand you experienced a tragedy
last year. Your whole family destroyed in a tornado. I’m so sorry for your loss.
    Cooper: The farm,
my dad, mom, my sister and her husband and their little girl. And grandpa. Everyone.
All gone. My dog Bay survived. It was the lowest point in my entire life. I threw
myself back into my job. Wanted to go back to work in the worst way, but Chief Timmons
ordered me to meet the family of SO Brownlee, who had been killed in Grenada.
Sharon: That was significant, having you meet
the family of SO Brownlee. You carried his name engraved on your KAY-BAR, right?
    Cooper: Yes, every
SEAL is awarded a KAY-BAR in a private ceremony before we get our Tridents. We carry
the name of a fallen SEAL. Chief Timmons wanted me to meet his family. Little did
he know I would find the girl of my dreams there.
Sharon: From what I’ve been told, they were none
    too pleased to meet you.
    Cooper: Kinda made
me mad at first. Not used to families who aren’t friendly toward our community.
Libby Brownlee was definitely the ice queen when I first met her. I think her father
had put notions in her head about what we are about.
Sharon: So tell me about your Team. What kind
    of guys are you?
    Cooper: We’re all
different. There’s Kyle, he’s our leader. Been on the teams for almost ten years,
    always was a California
dude, if you know what I mean. Got himself a pretty little wife, Christy, who is
sort of our Team’s Realtor. Now has a baby. Kyle is an expert marksman, and a born
leader. He and Armando were swim buddies during BUD/S.
There’s Armando, but we call him Armani because he likes to dress
up. Native of Puerto Rico, he’s usually the one
all the ladies want. Very protective of his mother and his little sister, Mia. Armando
is an explosives expert. He’s also the best swimmer on the team, although I’m right
    behind him.
Fredo is Mexican by heritage, grew up in LA. He’s our equipment
and radioman. He can rig a microphone anywhere and be able to track it remotely.
Also deadly with explosives. Don’t try to wrestle him, because he cheats. He’s in
love with Armani’s sister, but she won’t give him the time of day. He has a heart
    the size of the ocean.
We got a new guy on the Team, LT Malcolm Jones, originally from
    Texas. He actually
got an NFL contract but decided to go to the Academy instead. Never saw a guy run
so darned fast before. He can high jump over cars without breaking a sweat.
Sharon: But you haven’t told us what your expert
    capabilities are.
    Cooper: I’m the gadget
guy. I think I became a SEAL for the equipment and the toys. That’s what I used
to spend all my time and money on when I first joined up. I live in a motor home
at the beach, so I could save up to have every gadget known to man. Just bought
a great drone in Silicon Valley, which came in
    mighty handy recently.
Sharon: I understand you are getting married shortly.
    Cooper: Yes, Ma’am,
that’s affirmative. Libby made me the luckiest man on the planet when she agreed
    to marry me.
Sharon: Other than the cool equipment, what do
you like about being a SEAL?
    SEAL Endeavor
    Cooper: I guess like
Kyle, I wanted to just see how far I could get. You never really know what you can
do until you test your limits. I just wanted to see, first of all, if I had what
it takes to become a SEAL. I didn’t get all macho about it. Bragging around the
place. Those are the fakers. Easy to spot. Tell everyone. That’s not the SEAL way.
Like Kyle, I feel lucky to have found something I love doing
at such an early age. I guess I would have remained on the farm in Nebraska if I’d washed out.
Never knew anything else. Never wanted to make millions of dollars, and sure as
heck they don’t pay you that when you’re on the Teams. But that’s not why we do
it. We love being the heroes that save the day. Get all the great girls. We get
to jump out of airplanes and helicopters at midnight. Sneak in and get out before
anyone knows we’ve been there. You need guys like us. I like that our country depends
on us to get our job done without drama. Leave the drama in the theater where it
belongs. We just get ‘er done.
Sharon: What advice would you give readers to
learn more about you and your Team buds?
    Cooper: There’s tons
of stuff written about us, not all of it very accurate, of course. But we think
it’s funny how everyone wants to make us out to be superheroes. Hell, we even get
Superman and Spiderman underwear for special missions. We’re just plain guys doing
a job no one else can do. That’s a pretty cool thing when you think about it.
We’re trained to handle anything. Improvise. Learn from the enemy.
Observe mostly, talk little and never show off. So, let us be. Tell us thanks. That’s
the best thing anyone can do for us. Appreciate us. Because we love all of you.
Sharon: Well, Coop, I don’t think I could have
said it better myself. Keep yourself safe, and I hope we’ll get to hear more about
you and your buddies in the months and years to come.
    Cooper: You bet. We’ll
be here. We’re always here, and we’re always ready.
What question would you ask SO Calvin Cooper if you had the chance?
What would you like to see the SEALs do in an upcoming story? Anything you’ve wanted
to know? Maybe I can get Coop to answer back.

Christy Nelson embarks on her new career in Real Estate by holding
her first open house. Entering the wrong house, by accident, she finds the nude
sleeping body of a young man.
Navy SEAL Kyle Lansdowne, on a mission to find his AWOL Team
buddy, is staying at his buddy’s home while investigating the disappearance. When
someone breaks in, he takes protective measures. He doesn’t expect to find that
a beautiful young woman is responsible for his teammate’s abduction.
What starts out as a meeting by accident becomes a hot affair
neither one is ready for. Kyle is conflicted about getting Christy involved in his
mission, but his hand is forced when he learns the same San Diego gang responsible for his teammate’s
    abduction has kidnapped her.
Battling a cadre of dirty law enforcements hell-bent on getting
military equipment, especially state-of-the-art firepower, Kyle is forced to admit
that he would be willing to die to protect her.

Interview with Kyle Lansdowne of Accidental
    SEAL

Tell us about yourself. What are you like?
    I’m a
simple guy. After the death of my mother, my father and I didn’t get along and the
Navy raised me, became my true family.
What do you think is your strongest point?
    I’m not
special, I just don’t give up. Can’t stand to see innocents being abused. I like
being just one of the team, even though I lead them. I became a SEAL because I didn’t
have anything else at the time. Now it is different.
Do you have a weakness? (If so, what do you
think it is? What does your lover think it is? What does your enemy think it is?)
    I guess
I have a soft spot for the one woman in my life. Christy rocks my world. She is
ten times smarter than I am. I knew from the first time I held her she was special,
was the only one I could love. I would do anything to protect her. I thought she
deserved better than me at first.
What drives you to do the things you do? What
makes you want to be the “good guy?”
    Just like
in BUD/S, I don’t ring the bell. While some Team guys think they are God’s gift
to women, I have that singleness of focus that allows me to do the job I’m asked
to do. I love my community with the Teams and our families. I feel so lucky I found
this job at such an early age.
    What’s your favorite guilty pleasure?
    I love
freefalling, doing HALO jumps at midnight. I love my gear, all the fantastic equipment
I get to use. It turns me on going to Open Houses because of the way Christy and
    I met.
If you didn’t know how old you were how old
    would you be?
    What a
    dumb question.
A biography has been written about you. What
do you think the title would be in six words or less?
    He likes
    everything hard.
If money were not an object, where would you
    most like to live?
    I love
    San Diego, maybe
live in one of those huge villas Christy gets to sell. Something with views of the
    water.
What song would best describe your life?
    For You,
    by Keith Urban
If you were a tool, what would people use
    you to do?
    I’d be
a timing device on an IED.
Picture yourself as a store. Considering your
personality and lifestyle, what type of products would be sold there?
    I’d like
to own a gym like Gunny’s when I’m too old to do team work. Rather than own a store,
I’d rather have a place where Team guys could come and hang out, like a SEAL bar.
I’d like to stay in the community I’m in, even when I’ve got kids old enough to
    join the Teams.
As a child, what was your favorite thing about
    school?
    Sports.
Played I tried out for every sport. Had coaches on my case all the time about giving
up other sports to play for them. Never worked.
Tell us an embarrassing story that has to
do with a pet. If you have no pets, a story about a significant other will do. ^_^
    You’ll
see it in Chapter 1 of Accidental SEAL – I tied Christy up in her own pantyhose
when she surprised me at the open house. Of course, she made the mistake and went
to the wrong house, but I still feel real bad about that.
If you came with a warning label, what would
    it say?
    Let me
    come to you.
    Please
Fill in the Blanks as Kyle
    I love pizza with everything
    on it
    .
    I’m always ready for sex
    with Christy. Wild, wicked sex.
    When I’m alone, I think
    too much
    .
    You’d never be able to
    tell, but I’m kinda shy.
If I had a halo it would be titanium, but burnished, not shiny.
    If I could have ten
    kids
I would if Christy would let me.
    I can never forget the
past or where I came from
because I am an ordinary man.
