I’m a life-begins-at-fifty kind of gal. I earned my Bachelors Degree at 51, I learned to ride a motorcycle at 55, and I published my first book, A Long and Winding Road: A Caregiver’s Tale of Life, Love, and Chaos, after I began collecting Social Security.
After fifteen years of caring for my parents, David and I moved to a tiny town in East Texas where I work part-time at my church, garden when the notion strikes, tend to the whims of the feral cat who took over our home in 2015, and write about all of the above.
I’ve been a blogger for a decade and a correspondent for our local newspaper for six years. My 2nd memoir, Mom’s Long Good-Bye: A Tale of Alzheimer’s, Grief, and Comfort, is due out later this year.
A common theme of all my books is “the least of these.” My experiences as a caregiver taught me that the aging and those suffering from dementia can definitely by called “the least of these.”
Several years ago a presentation at my church made me keenly aware of another group of “the least of these” – victims of child sex trafficking, especially in small-town America. That awakening led to the writing of Tatia’s Tattoo, due for release on or around July 1.

Why did you write this book?
As I was cleaning one Saturday And So It Goes by Billy Joel came on my Pandora. The song made me pause and think about what it must be like to suffer real, deep loss. And from those thoughts Cooper and Emma emerged. I ended up writing the first thirty pages to their story that weekend. Apparently they had been waiting around for me to tell their tale.
What is your favorite genre to read?
Romantic suspense, of course!
Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?
Anne Shirley. I love her spunk, her ceaseless wonder of the world and her perspective.
What are you working on at the moment?
I am finishing up book four in this series and have also begun a third series that is Romantic suspense/military.
What books will we see from you in coming months?

Why did you write this book?
I originally wrote this book for a bad boy anthology call, but by the time I was done, I had exceeded the max word count and still wanted to add more scenes. So I forgot all about the anthology and kept revising this story until I was finally happy with it. It’s now book one in the Arresting Onyx series.
For how I came up with the plot, I must thank my subconscious since I dreamed about it. For days after, I kept thinking about the hero, the heroine, and her brother, and the characters wouldn’t leave me in peace until I wrote out a rough plotline. Though I changed quite a bit as I put the dream down on paper (or rather computer), the main premise remained the same.
What is your favorite genre to read?
I love to read almost every type of romance book, but my favorite sub-genre is tied between romantic suspense and paranormal, with historical at a close second. Outside of romance, I enjoy non-fiction history books and textbooks, preferably when the subject is about Greece or the Roman Empire.
Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?
I’m a big fan of Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunter series, and I absolutely love Acheron. He’s my all-time favorite book character.
What are you working on at the moment?
I’m currently editing the second book in the Arresting Onyx series (it should be out next year – hopefully!), and then I’ll move on the other books in the series.
What books will we see from you in coming months?
Arresting Mason is the only book I have coming out for a while, but I have several books in my backlist that I’m always promoting. Who knows. Maybe I’ll run across another anthology call and actually keep to the word count this time!Where to buy Arresting Mason
