Little Girl Lost by Mia Frances @maszyd #RLFblog #RomanticSuspenseMia Frances, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your book.

Little Girl Lost by Mia Frances

    Genre: Romantic Suspense.
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R (Hot. For adults only)
Sheriff Zac McHenry is fit to be tied. A new “working girl” just showed up at the local truck stop. He doesn’t want “her kind” in town! He arrests her, but things aren’t what they seem. She’s no hooker…she’s a librarian! Her name is Ali, and she’s trying to track down a 13-year-old runaway. The girl disappeared from the truck stop a week ago and hasn’t been heard from since. Zac tries to send Ali packing, even checks her out of her motel room, but she refuses to leave until she finds the girl. With the rodeo in town and all the hotel and motel rooms in the area booked up, Ali finds herself temporarily homeless. With no place else to go, she moves in with the sheriff until a room becomes available. Zac thinks his houseguest is a foul-mouthed, ill-tempered hellion. She thinks he’s an interfering, arrogant bully. But when they work together to investigate a case of kidnapping, human trafficking, and murder…sparks begin to fly. Is this any way to start a romance?
Why did you write this book?
The idea for Little Girl Lost came from a program I saw about two girl cousins, ages 14 and 15, from Toledo, Ohio who were on their way to get milkshakes from a nearby fast food restaurant and were kidnapped. It was starting to rain when a car with a man and woman inside pulled up beside them. The man offered them a ride to the restaurant. The girls mistakenly thought he was the father of one of their friends and got in. He was actually a violent pimp with a long rap sheet.
The girls were threatened and kept locked away in a house during the day and taken to motels at night where they were coerced into having sex with strangers. After several days, they were transported across state lines and taken to truck stops where they were forced to prostitute themselves to the drivers.
Thankfully, those girls were found by the authorities and reunited with their families. They managed to escape alive and are now trying to overcome the trauma and rebuild their lives. Lots of victims aren’t that lucky.
I was so taken by their story that I researched the topic and discovered that a lot of teenage runaways fall victim to such predators. The numbers are staggering! In a 2008 news’ report, three years after the girls’ ordeal ended, it was estimated that there were then 100,000 minors forced into sexual bondage by pimps and human traffickers.
I thought a human trafficking investigation would make a good plot for a romantic thriller. I decided my heroine, Ali, would be a youth librarian from upstate NY who’s trying to track down a 13-year-old runaway. Ali is a former foster kid who’s struggled to make a life for herself.
I decided on her background after seeing another TV show about how difficult life is for foster kids when they age out of the system. How many of them turn to drugs and the street. Ali runs programs for at-risk teens and preschoolers at her library. The girl she’s after, a foster kid too, participated in her teen drop-in program. Ali is investigating what happened to the girl when she runs afoul of a county sheriff in Wyoming.
He’s big, bossy, and a conservative Republican. She’s a petite, liberal Democrat with a short temper and a big mouth. They clash, but have to put their differences aside to work together to solve a series of abductions and murders.
What is your favorite genre to read?
I love murder mysteries and romantic suspense.
Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?
V.I. Warshawski, the Chicago Private Investigator created by novelist Sara Paretsky. I’ve read about 10 or 11 of the books in the series thus far. She’s smart, strong, tenacious, and a tough as nails detective.
What are you working on at the moment?
I’m finishing up the third book in my Millie Muldoon holiday mystery series, which I hope to have out in time for Halloween. They are early chapter book and written for 3rd grade readers. I write children’s books under a different pen name.
What books will we see from you in coming months?
I’m working on the final draft of a post-apocalyptic romance, set in the Adirondack wilderness of upstate NY. It will be out either later this year or early next. I haven’t settled on a title yet, I vacillate between Wolf’s Woman or Tribes.

Mercy by Jane Flagello @MasteringChange #RLFblog #RomanticSuspenseWelcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your book.

Shining a spotlight on the devastating problem of puppy mills and dog fighting is at the heart of Jane Flagello’s new book, Mercy – all wrapped up in a heartwarming story of love and compassion.

    QUICK

Do you write more than one genre? If so, what are they?…
I write mysteries and romantic suspense. My current project is a 3 book cozy mystery series set in Virginia Beach. Before I retired I had a personal/business coaching practice and was a management professor. Wearing that hat, I wrote self-help and personal growth books. Now, I take many of the lessons I shared as a coach and embed them in my stories.
How do you come up with ideas?…
I keep my eyes and ears open to everything around me. I live at the beach where people are very relaxed. Everywhere I go, ideas for stories present themselves so I can pick and choose which to use. My last three books – Gotcha!, Complicity, and Mercy have centered on social issues that make me angry. My goal was to shine the spotlight on important issues in hopes that people with way more power than I have will work to resolve the issue.
What is the single most important part of writing for you?…
Crafting a good plot that makes sense to readers, has a happy ending, and showcases the issue I want to put in the spotlight is important. Writing is like putting together a giant jigsaw puzzle. I have so many ideas which I work hard to integrate smoothly into a cohesive story that my readers will love.
When did you write your first book?…
My first books were change management and personal development books that I wrote while I was a college professor. In 1998 I wrote a personal development book called Me, Inc. It helped people navigate their life path and chart a course for where they wanted to be. Then I retired and I switched to mystery and romantic suspense – and am loving it!

    FUN

    Leather or lace? Definitely lace
    Black or red? Cobalt Blue
Satin sheets or smooth cotton? Smooth cotton – and white
Ocean or mountains? Ocean – I live at the beach. The ocean calms my soul.
City life or country life? Country life but close enough to a city to visit.
Party life or evening at home? Evening at home
Dogs or cats? Dog. He’s just over two – still a puppy – who loves the beach almost as much as I do!

Next turned out to be a new adventure. Meet Jane the mystery/romance author!
“Stories have the power to reach people and inspire them. Stories help all of us see our lives up close, in 3D. We connect with characters we want to know, want to root for, want to embrace. Stories give us ways to change what we are doing and who we are being”
I hope that my stories will touch your heart. They are stories are about people in transition, facing life’s challenges, people just like you and me. The magic of stories is that they offer you hints about how to accept whatever life throws at you and find the strength and courage to overcome, to live life fully with no regrets.

Alice Orr: Stephen King, Have I Got a Story for You @aliceorrbooks #AttackingCancer #Cancer

    Maw of the Monster

On January 22, 2008, if I’d known I was being thrust into the maw of the medical monster I would have shown up with more than a plastic spatula.
It was a frigid morning when the phone rang, too early to be anything but rude. “You want me to do what?” was my equally impolite response. I’d been snuggled under my yellow comforter. Now, I was supposed to get myself across Puget Sound asap to a hospital. Not a long journey, as the crow flies, but crows don’t care that Vashon Island has no bridge and only one ferry was in service that morning.
A half hour later I was outside, hopping from one freezing foot to the other and staring at my red Jeep, covered from roof to fender with a thick coat of frost. Back in my native Northeast, I’d have been better prepared. But the Northwest was supposed to have mild winters, so a black plastic spatula was all I could find as an anti-frost device.
Many blue-fingered scrapes were required to get me on the road at last. If I’d realized how rough that ride would be, I’d have stayed under the yellow comforter. If I’d realized I had breast cancer, I never would have answered the phone.
Skip ahead to December and another anomalous Northwest winter of blizzards and deep chill. By then, we had acquired a bona fide ice scraper, the red Jeep auto-piloted to the hospital, and the maw of the medical monster had grown to a chasm over which I dangled, holding on for dear life to the nearest fang.
You’ve probably heard the urban hospital legend where the trusting patient enters with a hangnail and ends up an amputee. I’d been inserted into my personal version of that tale. I thought I was in the home stretch, ready for brand new breasts to replace the old now-absent ones. Instead, I faced the two-pronged attack of a raging staph infection and surgical procedure #8, both of which would conspire to kill me.
Flash forward again to today. The cold, the ferry schedule, the infection and the surgeries are ten years past, but this was a horror story nonetheless. One I survived with the help of faith, family, friends and a miracle or two. I pray there will never be another shocking phone call or any of what followed, for me or for you. Meanwhile, my advice is that we all arm ourselves with mammograms against this monster because a plastic spatula simply will not do.

Know the Heroine from Becker Circle by Addison Brae @AddisonBrae1 #RLFblog #RomanticSuspenseAddison Brae, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! We’re excited to find out more about your heroine, but first, tell us about the book.

    Becker Circle by Addison Brae

    Genre: Contemporary Romantic Suspense
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
My first and only boyfriend believed I was too gutless to leave. He was dead wrong. My name’s Gillian, and I graduated Harvard early and left his hot temper and everyone else behind for Dallas. Determined to make it on my own, I land a second job bartending at the neighborhood pub smack in drama central where most every jerk in the neighborhood hits on me—at a huge price.
A week into the job, the neighborhood’s very popular drug dealer falls to his death a few feet from the table I’m serving. The cops say suicide, but the hot guitar player in the house band and I suspect foul play, and I intend to prove it. We dig deeper, grow closer, and make a shocking discovery. We know the murderer. Watch the trailer.
A portion of the author proceeds will go to Hope’s Door New Beginning Center to help fight domestic abuse. Becker Circle is published by Tirgearr Publishing.

Know the Heroine from Becker Circle

It’s late, Gillian’s bored. What does she do?
If she’s looking out for herself, she’ll stay home and study for her CPA exam or watch a movie with a glass of wine. If she’s vulnerable, she’ll agree to meet the adorable bad boy.
What kind of food would Gillian impulse buy if hungry?
Food? This is a girl who has half and half, leftover takeout, OJ, and a couple of partial containers of soup. She doesn’t make meals a priority. On impulse, she does have the number for her new favorite Thai place (that delivers) stored in her phone.
Describe the kind of clothes Gillian prefers to wear.
Some of you will understand how Gillian feels as she rebuilds her confidence whittled down by a narcissistic boyfriend. He always told her she was fat, so she tended to wear jeans a size too large and tops she could hide in. Early in the story, she asks a stylish neighbor to help her pick out new clothes the new Gillian would wear. She likes the results—at first. The way she dresses affects how her co-workers, customers, and guys respond to her. It takes time to grow into her new look that takes her down a rollercoaster path:
“I’d rather crawl under the bar rather than believe someone really thinks I’m pretty.”
Does Gillian know how to fix things?
Gillian is an expert at fixing situations or helping people out of trouble. For anything else, she calls her apartment’s maintenance.
Gillian tried to do something and it went badly. Tell us about it.
Since Gillian is starting fresh, she experiments a bit too often. On the romance side, she falls for the cute guy who says all the right things, goes too far with him to fast, and then realizes he doesn’t remember whether anything happened between them. In another situation, she tries to prove her toughness after a neighbor who did something nice for her once falls from his high-rise balcony. While everyone accepts it was suicide, clues saying otherwise keep finding her. He’s a drug dealer, but Gillian believes everyone deserves justice. She digs into the drug world and gets in way too deep. If I tell you what happens, I’ll give away too much.
How does Gillian act around children she doesn’t know?
Gillian goes from her day job to her bartending job and lives in a community of single people. The closest she gets to children are family photos on her co-workers’ desks.
What is Gillian like first thing in the morning?
She’s exhausted from studying for her CPA or closing the bar and dreads facing her terror of a boss who has it out for her at the accounting firm where she works.
    Can Gillian use chopsticks?
She can, but at home, she eats her favorite Thai takeout with a fork. It’s much less complicated, and chopsticks don’t work well with soup.
Does Gillian drink coffee? If so, how does she take it? If not, what does she drink instead?
Yes, with lots of half and half.
What apps would Gillian have on her phone?
Social media, maps for her move across country, Zelle for her boyfriend to pay her for bills (which he rarely did), leftover Harvard apps from college, IRS2Go and a few accounting apps, Pandora and Spotify for music
    Android or iPhone?
Hand-me-down iPhone from her dad before she went to college.
    Earrings or unpierced ears?
    Earrings, small and simple
    Tattoos or unadorned skin?
Gillian has a teddy bear about the size of a postage stamp that most people will never see. It’s what her ex gave her for her twenty-first birthday last year, one of the many reminders she’d like to forget.
    Personal vehicle or public transport?
Personal vehicle when it’s far, but Gillian lives close to her work and often walks.
    Recycle or toss?
Toss. In the apartment living world, recycling isn’t available.
Thanks for helping us get to know your heroine!
