I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! We’re excited to find out more about your heroine, but first, tell us about Felony Melanie in Pageant Pandemonium.

Felony Melanie in Pageant Pandemonium by Douglas J Eboch and Kris Bock

    Genre Romantic Comedy

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG-13

Introducing the new young adult romantic comedy series featuring “Felony Melanie” seven years before the events of the movie Sweet Home Alabama.

Before Melanie Smooter became hot fashion designer Melanie Carmichael, she was known as Felony Melanie, the teenage troublemaker of Pigeon Creek, Alabama. Aching to escape the boredom of small-town life, she gets into many reckless adventures. Her boyfriend, Jake, is always by her side – and the local sheriff is usually close behind.

When Melanie qualifies for the Miss Alabama Princess Pageant Southern Regional in the big city of Mobile, the first prize scholarship could be her ticket out of Pigeon Creek. But can her homemade dresses compete against the expensive gowns, and can a “trailer trash” girl survive when a haughty debutante will do anything to destroy the competition.

Meanwhile, Jake thinks beauty pageants are silly, but he’ll be there to support Melanie – as long as he can avoid getting kicked out by hotel security. Then Jake and his friends start to suspect someone is sabotaging the whole pageant. They try to follow the clues, but it isn’t easy when everyone dismisses you as redneck kids.

Melanie needs to prove herself on stage. Jake and the gang need to make sure she gets the chance. Can they show they’re more than what people see on the surface?

Suitable for ages 12 and up.

Know the Heroine from Felony Melanie in Pageant Pandemonium

Here are some fun questions to help us know your heroine.

It’s late, she’s bored. What does she do?

Sneak out of the trailer home, find Jake and maybe some of the rest of the gang, and get into trouble.

What kind of food would she impulse buy if hungry?

    Barbecue, yum!

Describe the kind of clothes she prefers to wear.

When she’s not gussied up for the beauty pageant stage, she prefers to wear clothes that can stand up to running through the woods to escape the sheriff, and maybe a dive into the pond.

Does she know how to fix things?

She’s better known for breaking things.

She tried to do something and it went badly. Tell us about it.

“Felony Melanie” earned her nickname because everything she tries to do seems to go badly. There was the episode of blowing up the bank. Totally in accident. We don’t talk about that (much).

Sign up for our newsletter and get Felony Melanie Destroys the Moonshiner’s Cabin. These first two chapters from the novel Felony Melanie in Pageant Pandemonium stand alone as a short story. You can probably guess from the title that this is not one of Melanie’s more successful evenings.

How does she act around children she doesn’t know?

In Pigeon Creek, everyone knows everyone.

What is she like first thing in the morning?

    So not a morning person.

    Can she use chopsticks?

    She’s seen chopsticks.

Does she drink coffee? If so, how does she take it? If not, what does she drink instead?

Coffee with lots of sugar when she was out late getting into trouble, and now she needs to wake up and pretend to be a respectable young lady on the beauty pageant stage.

What apps would she have on her phone?

It’s 1993 in rural Alabama. What are apps?

Thanks for helping us get to know your heroine!

Fiction Furbaby: Meet Tacos from Don't Forget the Dog by Linda O'Connor @LindaOConnor98 @RobsRescues #RLFblog #PetsLinda O’Connor, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. We want to know all about your Fiction Furbaby, but first, please tell us about Don’t Forget the Dog.

Don’t Forget the Dog by Linda O’Connor

    Genre Medical Romantic Comedy

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG

Dr. Brogan Corkie is happily semi-retired from medicine and now has time for other hobbies. Her passion for food is second only to her skill at matchmaking!

Blaine McKinnon, owner and executive chef of an upscale restaurant in Mapleton, has an adorable Old English sheepdog named Tacos. Brogan is roped into dog-sitting Tacos at Blaine’s house. The upside is the spectacular kitchen at her disposal.

Dr. Sabrina Langfield, a newly minted doctor, is in a bind when her mom, Rue, falls and fractures her wrist. Brogan offers to help and does double-duty looking after Tacos and Rue.

Blaine and Sabrina were high school sweethearts but parted ways when Blaine pushed Sabrina to pursue a career. Sabrina hasn’t seen him since, but Rue is a huge fan and frequents his restaurant. Rue’s biggest regret is her part in Sabrina and Blaine’s break-up, and with Brogan’s help, she’s determined to get them back together. It might not be that easy – Sabrina is wary of Tacos and, more pressing, she’s decided to move a four-hour flight away to do five more years of training in emergency medicine.

Will meddlesome matchmaking, Blaine’s persuasiveness, and – don’t forget the dog – Tacos’ sweet nature be enough to convince Sabrina to stay?

Meet Tacos from Don’t Forget the Dog

    Full name: Tacos
    Gender: male
    Species: Old English sheepdog
    Physical description: white fluffy fur
Relationship to main character: Blaine’s dog
Where this furbaby came from: Tacos was rescued by Blaine when Blaine was in high school. He’s been loved wholeheartedly since then and was named after Blaine’s favorite food.

What inspired you to create this character?

The premise of the Dr. Brogan Corkie Matchmaking Doctor series is that Brogan, doctor-turned-chef, cooks up romance and fun when two people are thrown together after she’s offered to help them out. When I plotted Don’t Forget the Dog, I thought it would be fun to have Brogan look after a pet instead of a human. The pet’s pa, Blaine McKinnon, became the sexy, talented hero of the romance. I needed a reason for Brogan to get involved, so I came up with the idea of Blaine having a high-maintenance dog – one that didn’t like to be left alone. Old English sheepdogs have long fur that sheds a lot, and they need to be brushed every day. They also tend to drool – which I thought was the perfect excuse for Brogan to look after Tacos at his own home instead of taking him into hers. Plus I think their fluffy fur makes them look adorable!

What does the hero think about this furbaby?

Blaine loves Tacos – he rescued Tacos as a puppy, and they’ve been together since Blaine was in high school. When Blaine designed his house, he included a special heated anteroom with a doggy door and area to shower and groom Tacos. Tacos has is own spa!

What does the heroine think about this furbaby?

Tacos is trying to worm his way into Sabrina’s heart, but it’s tough going. Big, hairy, slobbery dogs aren’t really her thing.

How do other characters react to or interact with this furbaby?

Sabrina’s mom, Rue, loves Tacos – and has since Blaine first rescued him back in high school when Blaine used to hang out with Sabrina’s brothers. Of all the children, Tacos is Rue’s favorite. Dr. Brogan Corkie wasn’t a dog-person, but she’s charmed by Tacos sweet, playful nature. He’s the perfect gentleman, just like his pa (unless you ask Sabrina – she’ll tell you both of them have a ways to go there – especially the pa).

Describe a humorous incident involving the animal character.

Blaine knew he was going to be busy at his restaurant during the hectic week around Valentine’s Day and had made arrangements weeks in advance to have someone look after Tacos. That person backs out at the last moment and Brogan is caught in the cross-hairs (or shaggy fur so to speak) and ends up “volunteering” to help out. It’s one of my favourite scenes in the book. The upside is that she’s babysitting Tacos at Blaine’s house and, as a chef, he has an awesome kitchen she can use!

Kiss Me, Kill Me by Sayara St Clair

    Genre: Paranormal Romance, Romantic Comedy

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

Oh, Universe…how bad dost thou suck? Let me count the ways.

Near demise by molesting dudes in an alleyway.

Near demise by marsupial-induced car crash.

    Near demise by colleague/psycho stalker.

Near demise by rogue vamps in that other alley.

Really, I should have taken my boyfriend up on his offer to turn me. But choosing to endure a liquid diet for all eternity is a weighty proposition. I mean, life hasn’t been all blood and crumpets for Greg since becoming a creature of the night. Then there’s the case of the only other vampire I know, who didn’t exactly take her turning like a champ.

Door Number One: retain my humanity.

    Door Number Two: embrace vampirehood.

Being a scientist, I analyse things. Down to the bone. The sample size of two vampires, combined with the lack of available literature on humanity versus vampirehood, makes it impossible to accumulate any meaningful data upon which to base my decision.

While I’m busy weighing the pros and cons, the universe serves up one more heaping helping of suck–in the form of a formidable opponent determined to freeze me out (literally) and snatch away my man.

This is SO gonna hurt. I should have opted for Door Number Two sooner…

Why did you write this book?

This is the second book in the Blood Kissed series. There was more of Ana and Greg’s story to tell after completion of the first book.

It’s high time Ana stands up to the demon from her past. When I say demon, I mean stepmother. She also has to face new demons–real ones–of the fanged persuasion. And she needs to address this little thing: “To turn or not to turn.” Now that’s a question, isn’t it?

What is your favorite genre to read?

Romance. All the different types of romance.

Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?

At the moment, my favorite is Mal Ericson from Kylie Scott’s Stage Dive series. The guy is off-the-wall crazy, but he’s hilarious and has a good heart. Love him!

What are you working on at the moment?

I’m world building for a brand new series.

What books will we see from you in coming months?

I expect it’ll be a while in the making, but the next book will be a paranormal romantic comedy from the new series. I’ll be venturing into the realm of fantasy. As a writer, I’ve not ventured there before, so I’m looking forward to the new experience.

If someone told a young Sayara St Clair that one day she would be an erotic/paranormal-romance-writing Aussie expat living in Thailand, she would have snort-laughed and yelled, “You. Be. Crazy!”
If someone told her the same thing now, she would not yell, only nod solemnly. Because that actually happened.
Sayara has a science degree, with majors in both microbiology and biochemistry. Working in the fields of serology and tissue banking, she got to do lots of cool and sometimes slightly weird stuff. She was employed as the manager/buyer for furniture retail stores, where she had a chance to unleash her inner interior decorator. (Interior design is one of her great passions.) And for a time, she taught English to students in Asia. (Hanging about in a roomful of extremely loud, pint-sized humans is not one of her great passions.) She has written ads for TV, print and radio; real estate brochures; website copy; and a screenplay. Now she’s writing fiction and has discovered it’s her favorite thing to do. She’s also learned that writing sultry romances is so much more fun than writing dry old scientific journal articles. No one has sex in scientific journal articles. Not the ones she wrote anyway.
When not writing, she may be most commonly found in a horizontal position reading, in the kitchen baking, in the garden planting, or somewhere else singing at the top of her lungs. She loves music and is prone to spontaneous bouts of dancing.
With regards to vampires and chocolate: she bites one on a daily basis and has had a lifelong obsession with the other. And she’s not telling which one’s which.

2 Tips for Grocery Shopping in COVID-19 and taking off a mask from Dr. Linda O'Connor author of Don't Drop the Baby @LindaOConnor98 #RLFblog #RomanticComedyLinda O’Connor, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Thanks for sharing two tips with us today, but first, please tell us about Don’t Drop the Baby.

Don’t Drop the Baby (Dr. Brogan Corkie Matchmaking Doctor, Book 1) by Linda O’Connor

    Genre Medical Romantic Comedy

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG

Dr. Brogan Corkie is happily semi-retired from medicine and now has time for other hobbies. Her passion for food is only second to her skill at matchmaking!

Ross Skye, owner of BabyCare, a high-end line of baby merchandise, is injured in an accident, and Brogan uses her cooking, medical – and matchmaking – skills to help him out. Dr. Lauren Kane is taking care of her nephew for two weeks, and Brogan agrees to babysit while Lauren is at work.

Two years ago, Ross and Lauren dated. At that time, Lauren wanted kids, but Ross wasn’t keen. Now the tables have turned, and Ross is trying to convince Lauren that they’d make an awesome parenting team. Brogan suggests they test drive parenthood by looking after a simulated baby for a week – a computerized version that eats, sleeps, wets, and cries. Ross and Lauren experience the “joy” of having a newborn firsthand, and the bar is set pretty low. Their first goal is: don’t drop the baby. The second goal is to find out if their love for each other will survive the test of…parenting.

    Two Tips for Family

There’s an art to taking off a mask. Imagine that the front of it is covered in virus – the name of the game is not to touch it and don’t spread the virus to the rest of your face. (The virus enters the body through the mucus membranes of your eyes, nose, and mouth.)

First wash your hands. Then remove the mask by touching the ties or ear loops only. Lift it away from your face and don’t shake it. It should go directly into the washing machine. Then – no surprise – wash your hands again.

If you think your hair or face is contaminated then you should shower. If you’ve leaned on a contaminated surface, remove your clothes and throw them in the washer as well. The mask and clothes should be washed with hot water and put into a dryer with a hot cycle.

If you’re wearing gloves and a mask, the gloves come off first. Roll them off turning them inside out as you go so you don’t touch the outside. Then wash your hands before you do anything else (like removing the mask.)

    Two Tips for Household Chores

When grocery shopping during the COVID-19 pandemic leave your purse at home and just carry your debit or credit card. That way you don’t have to worry about picking up the virus on the surface. Don’t touch your phone until after you wash your hands.

As soon as you get home, wash your hands. Leave your grocery bags on the floor; don’t put them on the kitchen counter. Put the perishables away and wash your hands again.

Coronavirus can live on cardboard for 24 hours and on metal or glass for 3-5 days. Separate out the non-perishables and, if you can, let them sit for 5 days.

If you wash your fruit and vegetables with soap, any soap residue left on them can cause an upset stomach and diarrhea. Food experts suggest that washing them with water is enough. But…sinks tend to be super grungy so not a great place for fruit and vegetables to go for a swim.

Genre Steamy Romantic Comedy, BBW Romance, Billionaire Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

Chased by a group of angry men. Saved by quite a hunk.

This is not the resume Ginger Halloway ever imagined having. But thanks to a miracle pill, which makes her size 22 body instantly sexy, that’s what happened.

Yet, now Lance Franklin is showing interest in her, and she can’t figure out if he really likes her for her, or if it’s just because of a bizarre drug.

And her wild bunch of friends, The Misfits…well, they’re always getting her into some interesting situations.

So, yep, business as usual. Except for the guy. What the hell should she do about him?

As for Lance, he believes he’s lucky to have found Ginger. But can he convince her they should go for it?

With some new attention from the hottest guy she’s ever met, Ginger can’t help but wonder…is this all too good to be true?

(Content Warning: Watch for foul language, steamy scenes, and a pesky yet messy ability to choke on your dinner while laughing. If you’ve come expecting just a lighthearted, slapstick romance, you may not get that here. The author approaches sensitive topics in the best way she knows how. Just be prepared for all the feels to be deeper than usual for this genre – an emotional romantic comedy. No unruly cliffhangers, HEA guaranteed.)

Why did you write this book?

This novel came as a response to a reader’s comment when I posted a meme on social media. The concept snowballed from there, and it became the start of a six-book romantic comedy series.

What is your favorite genre to read?

    Probably paranormal romance.

Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?

Wrath from JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood Series.

What are you working on at the moment?

I’m in the mist of a young adult mystery story that I intend to submit to a literary journal.

What books will we see from you in coming months?

Reader will see the relaunch of Magick and Moonlight, a modern romantic fantasy, as well as First Target, a romantic mystery collection. I’m not sure when my new publisher will re-release Upon Your Return, my historical romance novel, but I hope that one will be out soon too.

The Littlest Angel: Two people. One ornament for the tree. Can a twosome find common ground and discover the true meaning of Christmas?

Holiday Handbag Extravaganza: Christmas Countdown is on! A hunk-a-licious customer pesters a boutique owner to locate a vintage handbag for his mother. Too bad the wedge between them is his sister, the meanest girl in town.

    QUICK

Do you write more than one genre? If so, what are they?…

I write romantic comedy mysteries (the Hattie Cook mystery series) and romantic comedy short stories.

How do you come up with ideas?…

Oh my! Every story is different. For “Holiday Disaster,” I really did have an incident when I was a single girl and dropped my contact down the drain. I had little money to buy a new one; so there was no choice but to call Mr. Maintenance Man. However, the guy wasn’t nearly as much fun as my fictional guy. In “The Littlest Angel” I based the story on a Christmas ornament a family friend gave my mom. In “Holiday Handbag Extravaganza,” I pay tribute to a favorite handbag designer, Enid Collins.

What is the single most important part of writing for you?…

Getting the story right. I work and work before it is edited and then work some more. I confess, I’m a slow writer.

When did you write your first book?…

I began writing sixteen years ago. Wow! Time has flown by.
