Is It True: King of Swords by Anna Durbin @TheAnnaDurbin #RLFblog #Regency #RomanceWelcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Let’s play Is It True with today’s guest, Anna Durbin, author of King of Swords, a Regency romance. This is a game with yes and no questions. Writers can elaborate on answers as much as they choose.

King of Swords by Anna Durbin

    Genre Regency romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
A fiercely independent spinster who desperately needs assistance . . .
Lady Cassandra Gardner will inherit fifty thousand pounds when she turns thirty—and just in time. She has a special purpose for her money, one no man could understand. But when her brother the duke tries to cheat her out of her fortune, she has no choice but to accept the help of the man who shattered her heart years ago.
    A gallant nobleman who can’t resist rescuing a damsel in distress . . .
Lord William Poniard is looking for a wife, but the last woman he should consider marrying is his archenemy’s sister, the woman who hates him with a vengeance. Yet, when she is compromised by her brother’s nefarious scheme, he sees an opportunity not only to rescue the lady by marrying her but also to exact revenge on the duke for his past betrayal.
Will she accept his offer of help and at what cost?
Despite the long-standing animosity between Cassandra and William, sparks fly when their attraction to one another ignites into a passion neither saw coming. Will one night of rapture unite them or drive them apart? Can she forget past wounds and let him back into her heart? And can he convince her that she is the only woman he wants?

    Is it true:

    this is your first book?
Yes. It’s my first published book at any rate. I wrote my first true “book” when I was in grade school and have been thinking up stories ever since.
this book is part of a series?
Yes. King of Swords is part of the Kings of the Tarot series. Each hero in the series is based on one of the kings in the tarot card deck, and I use the symbolism of the tarot cards throughout the story.
you lost sleep while writing this book?
Yes. I frequently think about plot points while trying to fall asleep, and it can keep me wide awake while I go through scenarios in my head. Sometimes, I give up on trying to sleep and just get up and go to my computer room and write.
you did research for this book?
Yes. Tons of research. The book takes place in Regency England, so I had to do extensive research on the period. Specifically, I delved into marriage laws of the era, Gretna Green elopements, and other topics.
some characters in this book are not human? (pets for example)
No. There are no non-human characters in this book.
this book has more than one genre?
No. The book is simply a Regency romance.
you speak more than one language?
No. I did take French in junior high and high school but never mastered the language.
you grew up where you live now?
No. I grew up in Council Bluffs, Iowa, but now live in Madison, Wisconsin.
    you love to read?
Yes. I love to read all sorts of books ranging from romance to non-fiction.
    you are never late?
No. I always aim to be on time, but sometimes I miss the mark.
    you love pizza?
No. I’ll eat pizza, but I do not love it whatsoever.
    you love sushi?
    No. Absolutely NOT.
    you have a pet?
Yes. We have a calico cat named Maizy. She will be one year old in March, and we call her Crazy Maizy because she leaps through the air and flies around the house like a crazy woman. Although it’s fun to see her burn off that kitten energy, we’re hoping she calms down when she’s a little older.

Anna Durbin is the author of charming tales of the Beau Monde. Having grown up reading sagas of chivalry and romance, she began crafting her own elaborate stories in her imagination at a young age. It was only natural that she would one day write them down. Her first novel, King of Swords, was a 2012 Golden Heart® finalist.
Despite years of study in the biological and physical sciences, her true love has always been the literary arts. Inspired by her favorite author, Jane Austen, Anna adores the Regency Era and writes period pieces set during that time that show love conquering adversity. Oddly, for all her love of science and history, she is a faithful devotee of the New Age. She discovered tarot cards in a New Age shop in Minneapolis during a high school class trip one year and has been enchanted with them ever since. She enjoys weaving the symbolism of the tarot deck into her storylines.
Anna has lived in ten different states throughout her lifetime, from California to New Jersey. A Midwesterner at heart, she was born in Kansas and raised in Iowa. Currently, she lives in Wisconsin with her husband and works as a technician for local government.

Earl of Wainthorpe by Collette Cameron

Earl of Wainthorpe by Collette Cameron @Collette_Author #RLFblog #NewRelease #HistoricalRegencyGenre: Historical Regency
Book heat level (based on movie ratings):
Could you ever love the unrepentant rake who won you in a wager?
He didn’t gamble on losing his heart when he won her at the gaming tables.
Pierce, the Earl of Wainthorpe has finally thwarted his worst enemy. Except he can’t revel in his victory after winning his foe’s ward in a winner-takes-all wager. If Pierce refuses to assume Bianca Salisbury’s guardianship, the fiery-haired beauty with a matching temper may very well find herself sold to the highest bidder.
The shameful secret she guards makes it impossible to love a rogue.
Desperate to escape her blackguard cousin, Bianca Salisbury ventures to London to find a husband or employment. Instead, she’s bartered to a notorious rakehell. She either risks being compromised and accepts The Earl of Wainthorpe’s protection, or flees him and her guardian. But without money and a place to go, she fears she’ll face the same tragic fate as her mother.
Caution: This romance features a sexy, irredeemable scoundrel determined to thumb his nose at the haut ton, a saucy country miss unafraid to speak her mind but terrified of even a hint of scandal, a unlikely aristocratic matchmaker, a trio of busybody sisters you’ll adore, and a very pregnant calico that is convinced humans are only around for her convenience.
For a page-turning Historical Romance novel brimming with Regency England’s rakish dukes and rapscallion lords, buy this passionate adventure sprinkled with suspense and humor. You won’t be able to put it down.
Why did you write this book?
I was invited to participate with eleven other authors in creating a roguish earl to be a member of the Wicked Earls’ Club. It was the perfect opportunity to use an idea I had while writing Brooke: Wagers Gone Awry. That’s another book about an ill-placed wager.
What is your favorite genre to read?
Historical Romance! Big surprise there, right? I especially enjoy Regency, Georgian, Victorian, Highlander, and medieval historicals.
Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?
The Count of Monte Cristo. My, oh, my!
What are you working on at the moment?
I’m working on the last two books in my Conundrums of the Misses Culpepper series. If all goes well, you’ll see Blaike’s story in February!
What books will we see from you in coming months?
You’ll see Blaike’s and Blaire’s stories (books 4 and 5 of the Misses Culpepper Series) as well as books from my Seductive Scoundrel and Heart of a Scot Series. The last book in my Highland Heather Series, Seductive Surrender, releases in May 2018. Oh, and I have a top-secret project I’m working on too. It’s going to be an insanely busy year!

Meredith Bond: My Gentleman Thief @merrybond #RLFblog #RegencyRomance

Meredith Bond: My Gentleman Thief @merrybond #RLFblog #RegencyRomanceWelcome Meredith Bond author of My Gentleman Thief, a new Regency Romance.

Why did you write this book?
This is the third (and final) book of the Grace sisters books (numbers 5,6 and 7 of the Merry Men Series). I wrote it because I couldn’t possibly leave a sister unmarried! Thalia Grace is a bold, fun heroine and she deserved a wonderful man to fall in love with.
What is your favorite genre to read?
I go back and forth between Regency romance and paranormal, with a mystery or other piece of literature thrown in for variety.
Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?
I love Charley Davidson from Darynda Jones’ Charley Davidson series—she’s so much fun! I also have to admit to being not a little in love with Matthew Clairmont and Diana Bishop from A Discover of Witches by Deborah Harkness.
What are you working on at the moment?
I’m doing two things at once (not an easy feat for me!). I’m writing the second novella of the parents of The Merry Men (A Spanish Dilemma is the first novella in the sub-series): Under the Mango Tree (the parents of Julian Huntley from An Exotic Heir – which is free, by the way!). And I’m also beginning a whole new series which right now I’m calling the Ladies Wagering Whist Society. It’s going to be a series of 7 or 8 books, so I’m beginning the planning and plotting of that.
What books will we see from you in coming months?
Hopefully not very long from now I’ll publish Under the Mango Tree. After that I’ll get started on writing another parents novella (probably the parents of Sara Whately from A Rake’s Reward). Sadly, I think the first book from the Ladies Wagering Whist Society is going to take me a little bit of time because I need to plot out all of the books—at least roughly—before I start writing the first one (because some of the overlap in time).
Please tell us about your latest book.
    Genre Regency Romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG
Thalia Grace has a habit of flaunting Regency society—whether it be racing her horse against ungentlemanly earls or standing up to the arrogant lady patronesses of Almack’s. But after a handsome Greek artist comes to visit, she discovers her true calling—to follow in the footsteps of her archaeologist parents.
The talented Yiannis Istoriakis is passionate about Greek antiquities—he would do anything to ensure that they are treated with proper respect. But he never expected to become a thief…much less be so fascinated by the spirited woman he needs to become his accomplice.
As Thalia and Yiannis suffer through London’s social whirl while stealing priceless antiquities, they find that it’s their hearts that are in danger of being stolen.

Meet Charley Everly from The Rogue’s Last Scandal by Alina K Field @AlinaKField #RLFblog #Regency

Let’s meet Charley Everly from The Rogue’s Last Scandal, a new Regency romance.

    About The Rogue’s Last Scandal

    Genre Regency Romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
Like any good rogue, he was after a lady.
Saving a young heiress from wedding a scoundrel might just ease Charley Everly’s boredom with his current assignment. He’s been looking for a lady: beautiful, rich, Spanish, and the key to a traitor.
Could Grace Kingsley be the one?
Falling—literally—into the arms of the ton’s most outrageous rogue seems a risky path of escape, but Maria Graciela Kingsley y Romero has no other choice. Only the great Earl of Shaldon can help her, and he is not to be found.
So his son will have to do.

    Introducing Charley Everly

Welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. I’d like to get to know you better. Please tell me about yourself.
    Age: 28
    Gender: Male
    Birthplace: Cransdall Estate, England
Profession: Member of Parliament and occasional British spy
    Ethnicity: English
Please provide a physical description of yourself.
I’m an all-around average fellow, well perhaps a bit taller than most, and, I’ve got eyes, ears, and nose all in the right places, all my teeth and all my hair, and, well, the ladies don’t complain about the rest of me.
    Tell us about yourself, please.
What’s there to tell? I’m the Earl of Shaldon’s gad-about son. Returned from the Continent where I served the crown for a bit, attending parties and such. Father’s found me a spot in the Commons, though he’s managed to keep me busy with some of his other intrigues.
Who is the significant other in your life?
Until I met Gracie Kingsley, I was a favorite of more than one lady. But Gracie has spoiled me for all others.
Do you get by, live comfortably, live extravagantly?
Hah! Just because my father is exceedingly wealthy, everyone assumes I am also. It’s true I’m lucky enough to live in the family homes, but keeping up appearances can be costly, don’t you know? For years I got by on my allowance and small remunerations from my official positions.
What is your viewpoint on wealth?
It’s quite a bother, you know, all that worrying over investments and tenants. Good heavens, I was almost dismayed to find that mother had left me an estate upon my marriage. But there you go, I’ll be able to keep my Gracie in the style she’s accustomed to without dipping into her funds.
What kinds of things do you always carry (in pockets or purse)?
A flask, a small blade, and often a pocket pistol.
    What is your family like?
I have two elder brothers and one younger sister. My mother died ten years ago, and I have the most meddlesome father imaginable. He’s returned from his duty thwarting Napoleon to interfere in the lives of his children most prodigiously.
    Are you close to family?
My siblings and I have become close, trying to manage Father. Sadly—or, in truth, not so sadly, I’m the latest to succumb to his matchmaking impulses.
    Do you have children?
Yes! I now have a step-daughter, a rambunctious little imp who is the queen of the nursery. She has all of her mother’s spirit and beauty, so I expect she will lead us a merry chase. I shall ward off any young bucks who come after her just as I’ve protected her and her mother from the villains who threatened them. I don’t carry that blade and pistol for no reason!
