The Werewolves and Me: To Break a Warrior King's Curse by Kryssie Fortune @kryssiefortune #RLFblog #PNRGuest post by Kryssie Fortune
“Write what you know,” people say.
“It makes your writing come alive,” they say.
But I write about werewolves, vampires, former military men, and regency heroines. I don’t know any of them personally.
So, for my Scattered Siblings series, I cheated.
In my book, To Wed a Werewolf, the beta wolf, Giles, whose lies come home to roost is getting married. My son had just had an upmarket wedding at a five-star hotel. That went straight into my book – only with a werewolf bride and groom.
My second Scattered Siblings book, To Break a Warrior King’s Curse – formerly Curse of the Fae King – explains why the siblings are scattered and what the Fae’s Warrior King is doing about it. Then there’s my heroine, Meena. She lives in Whitby, the homeland of British Goths. I know the place well. Every place mentioned until Meena and Leonidas end up in the otherworld is visitable and beautiful. Also, my heroine’s a witch. Well… I’m no witch, but I have pagan leanings and Wicca fascinates me. The bit about it being too cold to work sky clad came straight from a talk I heard at the British Pagan conference a few years back.
In To Mate a Werewolf, Ellie, my heroine is a cook who tempts the werewolf alpha with her cakes. If I’m not writing, I’m baking. Add in that I’ve coached athletics and my daughter ran the London marathon, then it’s no surprise Ellie likes to run. I felt like I knew Ellie before I put pen to paper.
Another of my heroines, Viola in To Seduce an Omega has crippled knee. While I am no cripple, I’ve had trouble with my right knee for years. Adding her pain into the story came easy to me.
I’m Sagittarius, which means I get itchy feet. A few years back, I did a tour of the historical sites in Greece that I thought I’d only ever get to read about. Of course, there was fodder there for another story. In Seduced by the Vampire, Claimed by the Werewolf my vampire is a former Spartan. My werewolf is a former Macedonian prince, and although it’s never mentioned in the book, I had him pegged as a forefather of Alexander the Great. He certainly has the same coloring.
While I didn’t know many witches, werewolves, fae, or vampires, I can still put reality into my fantasy novel.

To Break a Warrior King’s Curse by Kryssie Fortune

Leonidas can fight anything except dark magic.
He inherited his father’s curse along with the Fae throne. Thanks to a rogue witch, if he doesn’t bed a different woman every month, he’ll turn feral. A man can only stand so much meaningless sex. No wonder he hates witches.
When he meets Meena, he intends to seduce her, not love her.
Meena’s a witch who never developed any powers.
Banished to the mundane world, she masquerades as human. When she accidentally bonds with an escaped war dragon, Leonidas comes to reclaim it. His enemies strip him of his powers, and his month’s almost up.
What happens when he discovers she’s a witch? And how will this warrior king cope when his curse kicks in and forces him into another woman’s bed.
Please note this book was previously sold with the title Curse of the Fae King.

Kryssie reads everything and anything, from literary fiction to sizzling romance. Her earliest memory is going to the library with her mother. She can’t have been more than two at the time. Reading, especially when a book’s hot and explicit, is more than a guilty pleasure. It’s an obsession.
Kryssie loves to visit historic sites, from Hadrian’s Wall to Regency Bath. The first book she fell in love with was Georgette Heyer’s The Unkown Ajax. After that, she devoured every regency book she could. After a while, they went out of fashion, but part of Kryssie’s psyche lives in Regency London. She longs to dance quadrilles and flirt behind fans. Of course, Kryssie’s heroines do far more than flirt.
Kryssie lives in Bridlington on the Yorkshire coast –about thirty miles from Whitby, where Bram Stoker wrote Dracula. She enjoys gardening, travel, and socializing with her author friends. You’d be surprised how many erotic romance authors live in the North of England.

When Ash Remains @DenaGarson #RLFblog #PNR #historicalWelcome Dena Garson author of When Ash Remains, a new Native American historical paranormal romance.

Why did you write this book?
In truth, because a friend of mine nagged me for years to write it. The secondary reason was because the myths and legends of the Skinwalker fascinated me. I live in Oklahoma so some of those Native American stories seem a little more, well… real.
What is your favorite genre to read?
It depends on my mood – it’s a mix of historical, paranormal, contemporary, fantasy, urban fantasy, and sci-fi romance. That’s probably why I write in so many of those categories!
Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?
Doctor Who. Not only does he get to travel across the universe(s) but through time. He has seen (experienced) all kinds of people, places, and cultures. And yet he is a protector and has a strong sense of equality and respect for life. I hope that series runs for another 50 years!
What are you working on at the moment?
I’m working on a Steampunk romance as well as a follow up to Mystic’s Touch.
What books will we see from you in coming months?
The Steampunk romance will be part of a box set that comes out later this year. And I’d like to get into a sci-fi romance set that a group has been putting together for later this year. *fingers crossed*
Please tell us about your latest book.

A warrior with a mission
There isn’t a buffalo or deer that Kajika cannot take down. So when his cousin is slaughtered he relishes the chance to track down the killer. The trail leads him to a woman with gifts he has trouble believing in. Despite their differences he cannot fight his instinct to protect her from all threats – even those he cannot see. That drive even rivals his desire to explore every inch of her body.
A woman with a destiny
Knowing the spirits will protect her, Ahyoka allows the handsome warrior to take her to be questioned by his chief about the unexplained deaths in their village. He may not believe in her abilities but he is one of the few who doesn’t treat her like something to be feared or shunned. He awakens feelings that make her yearn for things she thought she’d never have. Her biggest fear is that once he learns the full extent of her gifts he will reject her like most of her tribe did.
A killer twisted by hurt and anger
Kajika and Ahyoka must work together to find the one responsible for the string of deaths in and around their villages. Faith, trust, and even a little bit of love will be needed to defeat the killer and right the wrongs committed in the pursuit of power and revenge.

Variations on a Dragon Myth

When is a dragon not a dragon? When it’s a chimera of course. A what?  Well, to quote Homer’s Iliad a chimera is thing of immortal make, not human, lion-fronted and snake behind, a goat in the middle, and snorting out the breath of a terrible flame of bright fire. That sounds like the world’s worst description of a dragon to me. No way would I want to meet this beast, especially if it breathed fire.
The Ancient Greeks had a hero for everything, even slaying a Chimera. Perseus killed Medusa, Theseus killed the Minotaur while Hercules killed pretty much everyone he met, including his wife and child. Bellerophon rode a flying horse, and together they killed the Chimera. The world must have been full of monsters back then.
Every culture has its own version of dragons. Perhaps the most well-known dragons ail from China.
To the Ancient Chinese, the Dragon symbolized power and wisdom. They revered them as a symbol of power, but they needed to placate them. Since they believed dragons could control water, they thought floods occurred when a mortal upset a dragon.
I guess the moral of my story is whatever its species, you need to keep your dragon happy. The same applies to Flynn Hemsworth—hero of my book Dominated By the Dragon. He’s a former super soldier turned mercenary with a dragon demon bonded into his soul.

About the Book

Title Dominated by the Dragon
Genre Paranormal Romance
Author Kryssie Fortune
A former super soldier turned dragon demon must choose between his soul mate and saving the world from a nuclear winter.
The British army’s nuclear testing bonded a dragon into Flynn Hemsworth’s soul. Military scientists vivisected and tortured him until he escaped two years later. Although he’s never aged, he’s been alone and on the run for almost six decades. When he prevents a naked woman from being the prize lot in a coven’s slave auction, he realizes she has an unexplored submissive streak.
Hope Mathews—a sassy blonde with killer keyboard skills—is a strong independent woman. When Flynn prevents her being sold to a demon, she discovers she enjoys spankings and light bondage.
Together Hope and Flynn must shut down a coven of black magicians, rescue kidnapped demons, and stop a black ops nuclear missile hitting the UK. Even if they manage all that, Hope’s the granddaughter of a billionaire while Flynn’s still on the run from the military who want to dissect him again. Can they find common ground and build a life together?
Reader Advisory: Contains explicit language, a virginal heroine who discovers she enjoys spanking and bondage. Add in some serious dragon demon loving, light the blue touch paper, stand back, and watch the sparks fly..

About the Author

Alpha males and their sassy mates rule in Kryssie Fortune’s books. If the hero’s a shapeshifter, then so much the better.
Werewolves prowl through her Scattered Siblings series, along with the occasional Fae and vampire.
She grew up climbing trees and playing with imaginary dragons. Kryssie still loves dragons, and if she can sneak one into her books she will.
Her pet hates are unhappy endings and books that end on a cliffhanger.
Kryssie’s books are hot and explicit but the plot always comes before the sex. Since she writes erotic romance, she guarantees a happy ending.
