    Insider Information about Character Name

Welcome! We’d like to know more about you. Please add info you’re comfortable sharing.

    Age: 31
    Gender: Male
    Birthplace: Trenton, NJ
Profession: formerly a teacher of English as a second language, now a close protection agent (aka bodyguard)

Please provide a physical description of yourself.

Under the tutelage of my love interest/partner, I’ve begun building up my muscles, though I’ll never be as Adonis-like as he is. I’m six feet tall with brown hair and eyes. Though I’m not really a street fighter, I’d gladly grab the balls of an assailant and squeeze.

    What are your pronouns?

    He/him/his

How well does your name fit your personality?

As a Jewish baby, I was named after my grandfather Aaron, though my parents wanted a more mainstream name for me, so they picked Aidan. I wouldn’t have minded that name, and I’m kind of sorry that my grandpa shorted the family name from Greenberg. I’m proud of who I am and I wish my name was more reflective of that.

Do you believe in love at first sight?

Was it love, or simply lust, when I first spotted Liam McCullough? He was showering naked in the courtyard behind a bar. Then a day later when he came up to me at that same bar and began to make conversation, I was completely smitten. You can imagine how I felt when I realized he’d mistaken me for someone else! But circumstances brought us together and that early impression I had hasn’t change.

    What is your MBTI type?

Sensing/Intuition. Years of working with immigrants struggling to learn English has helped me make connections with people of all cultures and backgrounds. That comes in handy in close protection work.

    What is your astrological sign?

I’m a Virgo, organized and pragmatic. Liam approaches everything based on his training as a US Navy SEAL, but he says he appreciates my ability to think outside the box because I don’t have that focus.

Do you enjoy dressing up or prefer to dress casually?

You really have to hold me down to get me to wear a tie—I much prefer microfiber fishing shirts or one with tropical prints, and I will wear shorts every day if the weather merits.

    Can you:

Swim? Yes. I learned the SEAL technique for moving smoothly through the water from Liam.
    Use chopsticks? Awkwardly.
Roller skate? Not since I was about six!
Ski? I learned when I was in college, but living in Tunisia, and now the French Riviera, I don’t get much chance to practice.
    Fly a plane? Nope.
Ride a horse? No. I have been on camels, though.

How good are you with technology?

I’ve had to learn, because so much of protecting our clients is proactive—being aware of what threats are out there and how to outwit them using technology.

If you called your author on the phone, what ringtone would play?

    “Jimmy Dreams” by Jimmy Buffett.

What type of music do you like?

I have a real weakness for disco, especially Donna Summer and The Village People.

    What is your favorite book?

A Separate Peace by John Knowles. The understated romance between Phinny and Gene really spoke to my heart.

    What is your favorite movie?

I love the madcap humor of With Six You Get Eggroll with Doris Day, Brian Keith and George Carlin.

If you could choose a theme song to play when you entered a scene, which one of the following would fit best:

    Stirring march
    Gentle melody
    Hard rock
    Uplifting and breezy
    Somber and dark

    What color best describes you?

Well, with a last name like Greene…

Who is the one person who can convince you to do something you know you shouldn’t?

    My husband Liam.

Fiction Furbaby: Meet Rochester from Dog’s Honest Truth by Neil S Plakcy @NeilPlakcy @RobsRescues #RLFblog #Pets

Semi-reformed hacker Steve Levitan and his clue-sniffing golden retriever Rochester dig up the truth about a neighbor’s murder.

Neil, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! We support all furbabies, real life or fictional. We want to know all about your Fiction Furbaby, but first, please tell us about Dog’s Honest Truth.

Dog’s Honest Truth by Neil S Plakcy

    Cozy mystery

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG

There’s a new dog in town – a golden retriever named Luke, in training to be a seeing-eye dog. He and Rochester immediately bond, but there’s something odd about Luke’s human, Ben Ji. How can someone so young afford an expensive townhouse on Sarajevo Way? When Ben is shot, Steve begins to discover the lies he has been telling.

Steve’s also forced to tell the truth about his past, when he deals with a student plagiarist at Eastern College, a professor locked in the stone age, a climate activist with dangerous habits, an angry bartender—and a rifle-wielding assassin.

Will he and Rochester be able to dig up the clues to all these mysteries? Or will a deadly killer go unpunished?

Meet Rochester from Dog’s Honest Truth

    Full name: Rochester Levitan

    Nickname: Puppy

    Gender: Male

    Species: Canine, golden retriever

Physical description: eighty pounds of muscle and golden fur that flashes in the sunshine, with a square head, dark brown eyes and a muzzle that shades between black and dark brown.

Relationship to main character: beloved child

    Relationship to the villain/antagonist: None

Where this furbaby came from: When Steve’s next-door neighbor is murdered in In Dog We Trust, he and Rochester team up to find her killer.

What inspired you to create this character?

I fell deeply in love with my golden retriever, Samwise, who was my constant companion. He had adorable quirks, like putting his paw over his face to hide, shredding stuffed animals in seconds, and dragging me down the street in search of wonderful scents. I knew I had to write about him, and a cozy mystery seemed the best place to showcase a clue-sniffing dog.

What does the main character think about this furbaby?

When In Dog We Trust begins, Steve thinks his neighbor’s dog is too big, too wild and too slobbery. But Steve needs to learn how to trust and love again, and Rochester forces him to do that. By the twelfth book in the series, Steve is completely besotted.

How do other characters react to or interact with this furbaby?

Steve’s best friend Rick is the local police detective. At first he doesn’t believe that Rochester has an uncanny ability to sniff our clues. He’s just a dog, and Steve must be crazy. But eventually he agrees that Rochester has a nose for crime.

What is this furbaby’s natural habitat?

Because he was a rescue, then lost his human mom to murder in book one, Rochester is clingy. He has to know where Steve is all the time, so Steve has made special arrangements to bring Rochester to work with him every day. He’s either under the kitchen table waiting for dropped food, lounging by Steve’s desk, or sleeping on the floor beside the bed.

What does this furbaby add to the story?

Rochester is a co-detective in this amateur sleuth series. He uses his nose, his paws, and his tail to spur Steve to understand clues. He senses when someone is unhappy and comforts them, and when he’s around villains he growls or backs away.

And his big, happy personality helps balance out some of the darkness of murder.

What about this furbaby will readers like, and why?

Rochester radiates joy and curiosity, as so many dogs do. Readers enjoy his antics and connect them to their own canine companions.

    About Rochester

Which, if any of the pets in your writing are modeled after your own pets? In what way?

Rochester is modeled after my first golden, Samwise. And I spend hours every day researching for my books—walking my current goldens, Brody and Griffin; observing their behaviors; feeding them and playing with them. I think this close observation of doggy details adds to reader enjoyment of the books.

What do your pets do when you are writing?

Right now Brody is on the sofa, his head resting on the arm, watching me, while Griffin is splayed out on his side next to the kitchen table, where I’m writing this piece.

What’s the most unusual pet you ever had?

I was fascinated with hermit crabs when I was a teen, and kept one in a glass globe in my college dorm rooms.

Where did you find your pet?

Brody and Griffin both came from breeders we found online. In both cases we fell in love with their adorable pictures. And of course made sure that their parents were healthy.

Know the Hero from In His Kiss by Neil S Plakcy @neilplakcy #RLFblog #YA The sun shone on a beautiful country meadow. I walked across luxuriant green grass, wearing a pair of Bermuda shorts and my favorite T-shirt, the one that read “Brains are awesome—everyone should have one.”

Michael Torani is an average seventeen-year-old —not the smartest nor the most popular boy in his school. So he has no clue that his crush on the super cute but nerdy new guy Daniel Florez will soon result in their sharing a deep soul kiss — a kiss that will change Michael’s life forever.

Neil, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! We’re excited to find out more about your hero, but first, tell us about In His Kiss.

In His Kiss by Neil S Plakcy

    Genre Young Adult MM Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG-13

Just one kiss from hot new boy Daniel Florez turns Michael Torani’s world into something from the Sci-Fi Channel — have Daniel’s brain cells been leaking into him? How’s that possible? And yet he’s reading faster than he ever has before, scoring higher on school tests, and even helping his parents understand what’s wrong with his brother, the Big Mistake.

Michael’s wry, funny attitude about growing up, falling in love and getting away from his parents will make you want to be his new best friend. Fans of Richelle Mead and Stephenie Meyer will fall in love with Michael and Daniel as they depend on their brains and their deep emotional connection to survive– and maybe even graduate from high school along the way.

Know the Hero from In His Kiss

Here are some fun questions to help us know your hero.

It’s late, he’s bored. What does he do?

Michael sneaks out his bedroom window to the home of his neighbor and BFF Brie, where they listen to emo music and gossip about high school, teachers, and boys.

What kind of food would he impulse buy if hungry?

What any teen his age would eat—pizza, burgers, chocolate.

Describe the kind of clothes he prefers to wear.

If he could get away with it, Michael would live in faded denims and jewel-toned polo shirts. But occasionally he’l change it up with khakis and button-down oxford cloth shirts.

Does he know how to fix things?

Michael is much better at breaking things than fixing them. Just ask his father.

He tried to do something and it went badly. Tell us about it.

Michael needed cash to buy himself a new iPad touch. So he got a part-time job watering plants in the greenhouse at the back of the florist’s. No brainer, huh? Only you had to figure out all these complicated mixtures of fertilizer to put in the water. The rose bushes got one kind of food, the succulents another.

He loved that word, succulent. It represented the whole experience, the way the job totally sucked.

After he nearly killed a whole rack of orchids by giving them too much water and too little food, he got sacked. Conveniently, just as he earned the money he needed.

How does he act around children he doesn’t know?

Well, at seventeen he’s barely out of childhood himself, so he pretty much ignores them unless they have chocolate to offer.

What is he like first thing in the morning?

Grumpy. His parents say he’s too young for coffee, and his mother only prepares gluten-free food because his brother, the Big Mistake, has food issues. So his breakfast is limited to tough pancakes or gluey oatmeal. Neither of which makes him happy.

    Can he use chopsticks?

That would imply that his family was allowed to eat food from unusual cultures. Because of the Big Mistake, that’s a Big No.

Does he drink coffee? If so, how does he take it? If not, what does he drink instead?

His mother insists on milk, which he doctors with chocolate syrup.

What apps would he have on his phone?

What wouldn’t he have? Tik-Tok, Instagram, Snapchat, WhatsApp, GroupMe, and a few that his parents don’t know about like Grindr, which he downloads, checks out, then deletes almost immediately.

    Android or iPhone?

iPhone. He has as many iProducts as Apple makes.

    Beard or clean-shaven?

Clean-shaven, though he wishes he could grow a sexy beard, but maybe in time.

    Earrings/piercings/tattoos or unadorned skin?

His parents would FREAK OUT if he had piercings or tattoos. Which might be fun, if he wasn’t afraid of them and the places you get them.

    Personal vehicle or public transport?

His personal vehicle is a bicycle, though he is learning to drive.

    Recycle or toss?

He loves to harass his parents if they accidentally toss something that could be recycled. He’s going to inherit the planet, you know. And for extra guilt, pollution could have a bad effect on the Big Mistake, and you know, as good parents, his wouldn’t want to do anything to hurt their child.

Thanks for helping us get to know your hero!

The Lock-Keeper's Heart by Neil S Plakcy @NeilPlakcy #RLFblog #NewRelease #MMHistoricalRomance #MMCan two broken men heal each other? In Neil Plakcy’s newest historical romance, The Lock-Keeper’s Heart, journey back in time to 1872, to a rural lock along the Delaware Canal, where a young lock-keeper with a broken heart must help a bargeman with a broken leg.

Neil, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about The Lock-Keeper’s Heart.

The Lock-Keeper’s Heart by Neil S Plakcy

    Genre MM historical romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

Fans of MM historical romance will appreciate a fascinating time period, filled with unique details and a vibrant location, and a focus on the lives of working-class men in the 19th century who dare to love other men. This historical MM romance set in a small town in rural Pennsylvania in 1872 has a hurt/comfort theme.

Why did you write this book?

I grew up in the area where this book is set, walking along the long-dormant canal and hearing in my mind the calls of the bargemen and the clip-clop of the mules’ hooves as they dragged coal-laden barges upstream. I wanted to spend time in that world, and I thought it was a fresh time and place for an MM historical romance.

What is your favorite genre to read?

Right now I have a passion for this kind of book, which is why I wanted to write my own. I love MM romance, but I’m too old (LOL) for the stories of contemporary young men to resonate with me. I also read a lot of small-town cozy mysteries and thought I could combine the two genres.

Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?

Though it’s a cliché, I’d have to say Sal Paradise from Kerouac’s On the Road. I wish I’d had that kind of adventurous spirit as a young man.

What are you working on at the moment?

I had a sabbatical from my college teaching job last fall, so I wrote a lot of first drafts during the quarantine of 2020. Now I’m deep in editorial revisions for several books, but daydreaming about a follow up to The Gentleman and the Spy, my most recent MM historical romance. I think that will take place in Tangier in 1873 and I can’t wait to get there.

What books will we see from you in coming months?

I’m looking forward to The Graveyard of God’s Name, the next in my Have Body, Will Guard series, which takes place on the resort island of Djerba, off the Tunisian coast. Dog’s Waiting Room is #13 in my golden retriever mystery series, set in the contemporary version of the small town in The Lock-Keeper’s Heart. Finally, Unruly Son is #12 in my Honolulu-based Mahu Investigations.
