Elemental witch, Pepper McKay and former Navy SEAL, Lathen Quartz have built Lobster Cove Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Center on enchanted McKay land. During a romantic interlude on Halloween night, Pepper happily agrees to become Lathen’s wife. What better day than Winter Solstice for their wedding in a town that loves celebrations and Christmas. However, planning a wedding and operating their wildlife center takes a toll on both Pepper and Lathen.

When the couple takes a much-needed break for Thanksgiving with family in Colorado, a Maine snowstorm fills the center with injured wildlife. Lathen finds himself drawn into a covert military mission, while trying to deal with issues concerning friends and family. Pepper wants to cancel the wedding. Is she having second thoughts? Will the nosy McKay ghosts, Lathen’s werewolf pack, Pepper’s parents, and her best friend help or hinder the wedding and holiday plans?

When someone dies, we say they “kicked the bucket.” Therefore, a list of things that a person wants to accomplish, places to go, situations to experience, and so on have become known as a “Bucket List.”

    Age: Late Thirties

    Gender: Male

    Birthplace: Alaska

    Profession: Former SEAL turned handyman

    Ethnicity: Native American

Please provide a physical description of yourself.

Pausing for a moment he rubs his chin, probably taller than most, still have the muscles from special forces training routines.

He runs his fingers through his hair. Pepper says its surfer blond and always tousled because she’s always running her fingers through it. I have my dad’s unusual aquamarine blue eyes, Deeply tanned from working outside most of my life. My limp is the reason I’m no longer in the special forces. Which is all right, I’ve found new purpose in my life.

Please tell us a little about yourself.

I’m the manager of building maintenance for Lobster Cove Wildlife Rehab and Rescue. I also work with disabled vets, helping them adjust to life and find them jobs.

Who is the significant other in your life?Bucket list of Lathen Quartz from A Witch's Holiday Wedding @TenaStetler #RLFblog #ParanormalRomance

Pepper Rylie, she owns the Wildlife Rehab and Rescue.

If you haven’t made a bucket list before, perhaps now would be a good time. Who knows? It might inspire another book. While you’re at it, how about telling us about some of your other favorite things? Here are the questions.

    What is your birth order?

I have an older brother who still lives and works in Alaska.

Tell us about your favorite toy as a child.

My childhood was a bit different from most, as I’m a shapeshifter from a pack in Alaska.

Describe your favorite food and how it’s prepared.

A good porterhouse steak, medium rare, big baked potato with butter and cheddar cheese, and a nice green salad.

Tell us about your best friend.

I have a couple. My older brother. He works for the Division of Wildlife in Alaska. And Jay, a buddy who I served with. Jay assists me with the vets getting them the help they need and jobs. He has his own plane charter service. Comes in handy.

What are two places you would like to visit before you die, and why?

Hawaii. I’d love to take Pepper and just lay on the beach, watch the waves roll in and not worry about what disaster is coming next that will fill our Rescue. Don’t get me wrong. I love the work, but just a little R&R for a bit would be heaven.

Rocky Mountain National Park. Love to go camping there. I have a large trailer that we plan to use for our honeymoon, if we ever get that far.

Where is a place you would never like to return, and why?

Anywhere there is a war waging. What people do to their fellow man/woman in war is unspeakable. I deal with the after effects every single day.

Who is someone you would like to meet, and why?

General Colin Powell. A very smart man. His rules to live by helped in my darkest hours. Do you know that they are? I’ll tell you a few:

It ain’t as bad as you think. … (I have to admit sometimes it feels like it is.)

Get mad, then get over it.

Avoid having your ego so close to your position that when your position falls, your ego goes with it.

    It can be done!

    Be careful what you choose.

Don’t let adverse facts stand in the way of a good decision.

Who is someone you would like to avoid, and why?

Anyone in politics. They never see beyond the nose on their own face.

If you could time travel to any date, what would it be, and what would you do there?

When I came back injured, I was an SOB to deal with, I couldn’t get a handle on my PTSD and I was filled with hate. My family….well it was bad news… Anyway, I’d go back to that time and try to mend the situations I caused at the time. Which are personal, so I’ll leave it at that.

    Meet Tena Stetler

What was your biggest challenge in writing this book?

Keeping all the timelines straight, since I’d written A Witch’s Journey before and this was to be the sequel. Names, descriptions and events had to be correct from on to the other. As it turned out there will be two more books in this series released by summer’s end or fall 2020.

Why did you choose this character for the interview today?

Lathen is such a multi-dimensional personality. A tough as nails former Navy SEAL and still a protector. Yet he has a soft caring side for Pepper, friends and the wildlife. He finally mended the family he tore apart when he returned from the mission that nearly took his life and did take many of the lives of his team.

When writing the book, what did you discover about this character that surprised you? How he was determined to mend things between him, his father, brother and pack in Alaska.

Are any sequels planned for this book?

Yes, in fact, Hidden Gypsy Magic will be out this summer and Chocolate Raspberry Magic later this year. Fingers crossed.

What genre(s) would you like to write that you haven’t tried yet?

Cozy Mystery. I have a series started.

Read the series: Sweet Thangs Mystery Series by Emma Ames @EmmaAmes11 #RLFblog #mystery #romance

Mystery, romance, comedy, a little paranormal – you get it all in the new Sweet Thangs mystery series by Emma Ames.

Emma Ames, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your series.

Secrets, Lies, and Homemade Pies in the Sweet Thangs Mystery Series

    Genre mystery

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): Even though there is no graphic language or sex, I’d still rate it R because of adult themes.

Not only does Tizzy Donovan think her cup is always half-empty, she’s pretty sure someone has spit in it. When she discovers a murder victim in the cemetery and lead after lead points to her as the culprit, her looming damnation comes in the form of handsome Texas Ranger, Ridge Cooper.

With pressure mounting, Tizzy uses her ability to communicate with the dead to help clear her name, but will their clues be enough to prove her innocence and solve the case?

Secrets, Lies, and Homemade Pies is a ‘sweet’ version of Ann Everett’s steamy romantic mystery, Laid Out and Candle Lit.

Which book is this in the series?

This is book one. It probably has as much romance as mystery because I introduce the two main characters who are central to each story. In the following books, romance takes a backseat.

How many books do you plan for the series?

Undecided. Three for sure. Maybe more. These characters are near and dear to my heart, so I hate to let them go. I already have a story idea churning in my noggin’ for a fourth book.

    How many books are completed?

I am currently on the last edit of the third book, (Pretty Bows and Turned Up Toes) which should be out in a couple of months. It has the zaniest cast of characters yet, including a talking parrot!

What characters are the main stars in your series?

Tizzy Donovan Cooper is the main character, but her love interest/husband, Ridge Cooper, also takes center stage. He’s a Texas Ranger and Tizzy likes to meddle in his cases.

What is the overall theme in this series?

There’s always a mystery to solve, but quite a bit of humor and a sprinkling of paranormal. Some might consider these cozy mysteries, but they are edgier than a typical cozy because they deal with adult themes.

Please list the series titles below, in any order you prefer.

Book 1—Secrets, Lies, and Homemade Pies

Book 2—Gloom, Doom, and Missing Groom

Book 3—Pretty Bows and Turned Up Toes

What did you like best about writing this series?

First, let me say Emma Ames writes ‘sweeter, cleaner’ versions of Ann Everett’s books. Emma’s books have no graphic language or sex scenes. If readers enjoy some heat to their stories, Ann furnishes those.

I loved writing this series because it’s set in my hometown of Brownsboro, Texas, and many of the characters are based on people I know or family members. Also, a lot of the silliness is true! Of course, I embellished the town and the characters. Brownsboro doesn’t have a bakery, but since my sister and I go by the nicknames of Sugarpie and Pattiecake, I had to put us in the series, and what better way than to have us own a bakery by the name of Sweet Thangs? I took liberties. I made us younger and gave us bigger boobs!

What other books (not in this series, have you written?)

No Good Without You, A Sparrow, Texas Romance

Read the Cozy Mystery Men's Club Chaos by Karen Cino @karencino #RLFblog #CozyMysterySenior amateur sleuths are at it again in Men’s Club Chaos, book #5 in the Cookie Cutter Cozy Culinary Mystery Romance Series by Karen Cino. Karen shares two tips that help her stay organized.

Karen, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Thanks for sharing two tips with us today, but first, please tell us about Men’s Club Chaos (Cookie Cutter Cozy Mystery Series Book 5).

Men’s Club Chaos by Karen Cino

    Genre Cozy Mystery Culinary Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG17

Connie and Sara are preparing to bring cookie samples for the men’s club Thanksgiving dinner. An explosion at the water towers send the women running to the scene.

After visit Kent and taking his order, Connie and Sara go down to the water tower to see if they can find out what caused the explosion.

A few hours later while Connie and Brett are at dinner they receive a call that Ken is dead after eating Connie’s cookies. It is up to Sara to track down the killer to clear Connie of the murder.

Who said that two women sleuths can’t get into massive trouble.

    Two Tips for Writing

The most important tip is to write everyday. This helps build our momentum and gives you a rush of wanting to write everyday.

Writing with you know is often harder than you think. Make certain to research even on a subject or occupation you know. What you did twenty years ago is totally different today.

    Two Tips for Editing

I find reading my manuscript outlaid helps you find a variety of errors, especially in grammar and repeat words and phrases. After I finish a book, I put it on the side for a week or two before going back.

It’s important to have a character sketch and timeline along side you to find mistakes. For instance the character starts off with dark brown eyes and halfway through the book it changes to hazel. I keep a character sketch for physical description and general information on each character.

    Two Tips for Organizing

When writing a series, keep all your characters together. I have a notebook for my series. I like flipping through pages to see who previous characters are if I’m going to use them again in another book. (Besides the main characters.)

I also keep a tote back with the current book I’m working on along with my notebooks and timelines.

    Two Tips for Timesavers

Have all your notes on your work in progress in one place. Like a previously said, I keep my notes in a binder and notebook. Try to keep your work schedule at the same time everyday. I generally write from eleven in the morning until three or four. I set a word goal and go for it.

    Two Tips for Family

Talk to your family members about boundaries. I find that a lot of times family members take our writing as a joke because we’re not getting paid a “big” or shall I say “small” weekly salary. Let them understand this is your passion.

If you’re going to get up early or stay up late to write, let your family know that during this time you do not want to be bothered. No you are not making them coffee or entertaining them. Ask them to respect your time, especially if you are writing during your quiet time of the morning or night. (I know. Easier said than done.)

    Two Tips for Household Chores

The house will be standing long after we’re all gone. But seriously, I clean my house every Saturday and Sunday morning. The bathroom I do everyday. This way it is always clean and I never go to bed with dishes in the sink. If you have kids, again you have to set boundaries. You don’t expect them to scrub your bathroom floors, but they should be responsible for cleaning up after themselves. And if they are using your car, then you have a great bargaining tool. lol I used that for years. But now that it’s just my husband and I, we share the chores, keep the house neat except for all my papers all over the living room.

    Two Tips for Cooking

I find cooking for two days works out great for me. A lot of people don’t like leftovers, but if it’s cooking a meal and cleaning pots and pans every night, I learned to eat leftovers and so has my husband. Again, clean up as you go along and you won’t waste any undo additional time. Or when all else fails: Order out!!!

Read the series: The Adventure of the Murdered Midwife by Liese Sherwood-Fabre @lsfabre #RLFblog #SherlockHolmes #cozymysteryLiese Sherwood-Fabre, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your series.

The Adventure of the Murdered Midwife in the Early Case Files of Sherlock Holmes

    Genre: Mystery

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG 13

Before Sherlock Holmes became the world’s greatest consulting detective, scandal rocked the Holmes family.

Arthur Conan Doyle provided few details on Holmes’ boyhood. His ancestors were country squires, his grandmother was the sister of the French artist Vernet, and he had a brother named Mycroft – seven years his senior. Recently, a cache of documents has been discovered detailing, in Sherlock’s own hand, his early forays into criminal investigation.

Only weeks into his first year at Eton, Sherlock’s father calls him and his brother back to Underbyrne, the ancestral estate. The village midwife has been found with a pitchfork in her back in the estate’s garden, and Mrs. Holmes has been accused of the murder. Can Sherlock find the true killer in time to save her from the gallows?

Which book is this in the series?

This is the first of the early case files of Sherlock Holmes. The Adventure of the Murdered Midwife sets him on the path to his final career as the world’s most famous consulting detective.

How many books do you plan for the series?

My plan is to follow him to just prior to his meeting with Watson. I’m not sure how many that will involve. He is thirteen in the first, and he doesn’t meet Watson until he was 27. The first three (and the fourth planned one) span a single year. I don’t think the rest will be so close together.

    How many books are completed?

At present, I have completed three and have plans for the fourth. The first three will all be out this summer. The fourth is planned for publication in 2021.

What characters are the main stars in your series?

Of course, there is Sherlock, but we are also introduced to his family: Violette, his mother is a woman with a brilliant mind, but restricted by Victorian conventions from achieving her potential; Siger, his father, is loving, but remote; Sherlock’s Uncle Ernest tinkers with weapons and explosives; and his older brother Mycroft, an even greater genius than Sherlock, but a bit of a bully. We are also introduced to a young pickpocket, Constance, who develops a friendship (and possibly a bit more) with Sherlock.

What is the overall theme in this series?

I find my stories all focus on some way on belonging. In the book one, Sherlock’s first year at Eton isn’t going well, in part because he doesn’t fit in. The family must rally around Mrs. Holmes if they are to save her from the gallows and in doing so, develops deeper bonds between each other. These newfound ties will be tested but will serve them all in the later books.

Please list the series titles below, in any order you prefer.

The Adventure of the Murdered Midwife (Case One)

The Adventure of the Murdered Gypsy (Case Two)

The Adventure of the Deceased Scholar (Case Three)

What did you like best about writing this series?

While I had the adult Sherlock as a guide, I still had a lot I could fill in about him as a boy. It required a lot of research about the Victorian era, which was also fascinating. I learned about aspects of British life in the mid-1800s that will serve me well in trivia games in the future.

What other books (not in this series, have you written?)

I have a thriller set in post-Soviet Russia Saving Hope, and have numerous short stories in anthologies as well as in my own collections.
