Know the Heroine from Naval Maneuvers by Dee S Knight @DeeSKnight #RLFblog #Romance #MilitaryFalling in love is only half the battle for Mel Crandall. She must overcome long-held prejudices about the military and move on, or take the chance of losing her love in Dee S Knight's Naval Maneuvers.

Dee, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I'm Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! We're excited to find out more about your heroine, but first, tell us about Naval Maneuvers.

Naval Maneuvers by Dee S Knight

    Genre Contemporary erotic romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): X

Men and women of the armed forces experience desire and love pretty much like everyone else. Except, well, there is that uniform. And the hard-to-resist attraction of "duty, honor, service" as a man might apply them to a woman's pleasure. All things considered, romance among the military is a pretty sexy, compelling force for which you'd better be armed, whether weighing anchor and moving forward into desire, dropping anchor and staying put for passion, or setting a course for renewed love with anchor home.

Know the Heroine from Naval Maneuvers

Here are some fun questions to help us know your heroine.

It's late, she's bored. What does she do?

Makes a cup of cocoa and binge-watches cooking shows.

What kind of food would she impulse buy if hungry?

Dark chocolate M&Ms. As a doctor she knows they're not really "food" or good for her, but sometimes you just gotta live a little.

Describe the kind of clothes she prefers to wear.

Classic styles—trouser pants with pleats and a belt when going out casually and soft, collared blouses. She has three distinct little black dresses and almost always wears dresses or skirts when going out for an evening. She enjoys heels because they make her feel feminine (and yes, sexy!) but is just as comfortable in flats. Clothing must be comfortable and she tends towards the flowy, draping types of materials of very good quality.

Does she know how to fix things?

Yes, she's a good handyman type. Her dad was gone a lot while she was growing up (in the Marine Corps) and her mom insisted she know how to take care of herself. No matter how much you might want it (her mom would say), men aren't always there right when you need them to fix a faucet. This is one of the things Mel dislikes about the military—that it requires long periods of being apart from the person you love and need the most.

She tried to do something and it went badly. Tell us about it.

She took test in high school English after watching TV the night before instead of studying. After all, she'd read the material, right? No need to reviewt he class notes too. So seeing the questions shook her up and her grade reflected her lack of preparation. Since she'd always wanted to be a doctor, it hit her then that lack of preparation could mean a life instead of a bad grade and she never slacked off again.

How does she act around children she doesn't know?

She likes kids but she's an only child, so she doesn't have a lot of personal interaction with them.

What is she like first thing in the morning?

Years of schooling and then internship and residency ingrained a sense of waking up quickly and getting a move-on. That's what she's like every morning. Up, shower, dress, coffee, and she's off!

    Can she use chopsticks?

Yes, though she doesn't usually, even in Asian restaurants. She's normally in a hurry and forks simply have that time advantage.

Does she drink coffee? If so, how does she take it? If not, what does she drink instead?

OMG, YES! She takes it as God intended—black and without sugar.

What apps would she have on her phone?

Her hospital's app, one for her email server, JAMA, and the Food Network.

    Android or iPhone?

    iPhone

    Earrings or unpierced ears?

Pierced ears. She usually wears stud style because anything that dangles could get in the way while she's working.

    Tattoos or unadorned skin?

    Unadorned

    Personal vehicle or public transport?

Because her job is unpredictable, she drives herself most of the time. Plus, public transport isn't that great around Charlottesville.

    Recycle or toss?

Recycle. It's something small she can do.

    Tate

I’ve done the whole protecting of assets gig before. This specific asset, Zoey (AKA Leigh Ann Prentiss), is the former lover of one of the most insidious drug lords in history. Despite that lover being dead, her choice to testify about the internal workings of his cartel remains dangerous.

As a U.S. Marshal, I know the FBI has done its best to track down any members who might have survived, but that’s never an exact science. Ensuring Zoey and her four sons’ safety is up to my team and me, and since on paper, I’ll be seen as her spouse, most of that responsibility is mine.

Too bad I didn’t factor falling for her into the equation.

    Zoey

When I initially entered the WITSEC program, I knew starting a new life wouldn’t be easy. It’s difficult to raise my boys in a location so different from what they’ve always known, even if it is the only option for us to stay together.

One thing I never could’ve predicted are my feelings for our handler, Tate Rylan. Unlike most men I’ve known, he’s considerate, kind, and respectful. Yet deciding whether to fight my attraction or give in to it is challenging.

Whatever path I choose, I know any relationship we might have can’t possibly last.

Will Zoey and Tate determine that loving each other is worth the risk, even temporarily? Or will these feelings become a distraction that could prove fatal for all involved?

Know the Hero from Reactivated: Oz by Charissa Gracyk @CharissaGracyk #RLFblog #MilitaryRomanceA group of former Navy SEALs discover they were part of a secret experiment that enhanced their DNA in Charissa Gracyk’s military book “Reactivated: Oz.” Now, the team’s dormant powers are resurfacing and an enemy plans to hijack them to create the perfect killing squad. Expect lots of steam, action and a touch of sci-fi in the new Project Phoenix series.

Charissa, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! We’re excited to find out more about your hero, but first, tell us about Reactivated: Oz.

    Reactivated: Oz by Charissa Gracyk

    Genre: Military/Action

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

    “Project Phoenix…Find Oz…”

Those were the last words her brother Jonah said when he died in her arms. Convinced that he was murdered, Navy Intel Officer Allegra Steele learns that “Oz” is her brother’s former Navy SEAL teammate, Jack “Oz” Cullen.

When Allegra asks for Jack’s help, she doesn’t expect the undeniable electricity that sparks between them. And, Jack, still trying to adjust to civilian life, knows he should stay away from the intelligent beauty.

Swept up in adventure and each other, they uncover a sinister evil called Project Phoenix, an experiment that gave each SEAL on Jack’s team a super power. When Jack’s ability suddenly resurfaces, he can hear other people’s thoughts—and, Allegra’s steamy internal dialogue makes this super sexy soldier sweat.

Know the Hero from Reactivated: Oz

Here are some fun questions to help us know your hero.

It’s late, he’s bored. What does he do?

Jack “Oz” Cullen would probably exercise. He’s still military-fit and enjoys a good run on the beach since he lives a few blocks away.

What kind of food would he impulse buy if hungry?

Jack is a simple man with simple tastes—give him beer and a burger or a pizza loaded with meat and he’s happy.

Describe the kind of clothes he prefers to wear.

Jack is always prepared and practical so his go-to, staple wardrobe consists of a t-shirt and cargo pants with endless pockets to keep his gadgets and weapons.

Does he know how to fix things?

Yes, and he’s so talented with his hands that he and his best friend and former teammate Dom started a company together where they flip houses.

He tried to do something and it went badly. Tell us about it.

Jack is a leader, quick-thinker and the one everyone turns to for an answer. That’s why his nickname is Oz—he’s the one behind the curtain, pulling the strings. Failure isn’t an option because lives depend on him. If a mission goes bad, people die. Of course, no matter how good he is, bad things do inevitably occur and he would shoulder the blame and bury the guilt.

What is he like first thing in the morning?

Jack is a military man and sleep was a luxury he seldom enjoyed, especially when he was Lieutenant Commander of his team and led them on dangerous, top-secret missions. He’s used to catching a minute of shut eye here or there and still gets up at the crack of dawn for a run along the beach followed by a swim in the ocean. He does enjoy black coffee, though, but he doesn’t need it to wake up.

    Beard or clean-shaven?

Scruff. He’s a bit in-between, depending on his mood. While a SEAL, he sported a beard because it helped him blend in better with the locals. But now if he shaves more often.

    Earrings/piercings/tattoos or unadorned skin?

Jack, better known by his nickname Oz to his teammates, sports a blue skull tattoo on his upper arm. Each of the four assault squadrons of the elite DEVGRU has its own identity and insignia, and Blue Squadron’s members identify as pirates.

    Personal vehicle or public transport?

Jack owns a Ford-150 truck who he affectionately named Fannie and he requires a roomy vehicle because at 6’4″, he needs the additional leg room. He also needs the back carriage for transporting materials when he and Dom are renovating a house.

Thanks for helping us get to know your hero!

Read the all-new Special Anniversary edition of True Surrender, a contemporary #MilitaryRomance by Tracey Cramer-Kelly @TraceyCramerKel #RLFblog #SecondChanceAn Army officer is rescued from Afghan terrorists in Tracey Cramer-Kelly’s contemporary military romance, True Surrender. Aaron thinks the worst is over when he loses his leg to amputation, but the biggest battle – for his heart and soul – is just beginning…

Tracey, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about True Surrender.

    True Surrender by Tracey Cramer-Kelly

    Genre: contemporary military romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG13

    Her heart was broken…

Widowed mother and prosthetics designer Holly Rossiter jumped at the chance to work at Holbrook Military Medical Center in California. Helping amputees put their lives back together was both heartbreaking and magical. But when her newest patient is the man who once broke her heart, she must confront their past and his uncertain future.

    His body was broken…

His rescue from Afghanistan terrorists offered Major Aaron Bricewick a second chance at life. But what will he do with that life if the loss of his leg derails his military career aspirations? He’s done battle before, but this time it’s personal, as he’s forced to face his internal demons and his feelings for the woman he left behind.

    Can love mend them both?

When Aaron uncovers secrets from the past, it sends him on a hunt for the truth of what happened in Afghanistan and puts their budding romance at a crossroads. He chose the military over Holly once before, and this time it’s not just her heart on the line. When violence touches his life again, will Aaron choose his duty to the military, or will he surrender to a life—and love—he never thought he could have?

Why did you write this book?

Our armed forces members, veterans and their families have always been near and dear to my heart (starting with my own service as an Army combat medic).

When I first wrote True Surrender (note that this is an all-new Special Anniversary Edition that was substantially revised/rewritten), PTSD was just starting to get serious attention, and we had servicemembers coming home with missing limbs. Soldiers tend to be viewed as emotionally invincible, but we know from today’s headlines that that isn’t the case (even now, veterans are taking their own lives at an astonishing pace).

I started encountering real-life veterans who inspired me with their courage in the face of obstacles (I’ll be profiling some of them in my “12 Days of Veterans” coming up soon). I wanted to call attention to the struggles of these veterans, and to do so in a way that kept the reader emotionally engaged. What better way than through romantic fiction?!

With the character of Aaron Bricewick, I wanted to show that a person can experience incredible obstacles and come out the other side, transformed and stronger. And in Holly’s case, I wanted to show the internal struggle that those who love these special people go through. Ultimately, True Surrender is a story about courage, hope, faith and – of course – love!

(Note: Every November, I donate all book royalties to a military charity. Visit https://www.traceycramerkelly.com/book-sales-to-benefit-cru-military/ for this year’s details.)

What is your favorite genre to read?

I do love reading military romance (big surprise); but I’m a total sucker for (physically or emotionally) wounded heroes of any kind! I’m not a big fan of insta-love (or insta-lust for that matter); I much prefer a slow burn. I’ll occasionally read a rom-com if I feel like I need to lighten up, but more often I choose books that tackle heavy themes. (For example, the characters in my Lawson Family Series deal with survivor guilt, domestic violence, physical disability and addiction.)

What are you working on at the moment?

I’m revising the second book in my upcoming series, Reno in Flames, while also writing the third (the first is done, hoorah!). Though most of my books feature sensual scenes and send the really sexy stuff “behind closed doors,” this series is an exception (as is my Army Ranger Trilogy… and The Longest Run)!

What books will we see from you in coming months?

If all goes as planned, the Reno in Flames series will kick off in March 2022 with book #1, tentatively titled “Fighting Fire.”

Can we get a Sneak Peek of True Surrender?

Absolutely! Check out the prologue at https://www.traceycramerkelly.com/chapter-1-true-surrender-military-romance/ (You can also view the book trailer here: https://youtu.be/kgtDW91q4DM)

Many experiences influence my writing, and I’ve been known to undertake unusual endeavors (such as firefighter training and learning to fly a helicopter) just for the sake of the experience.
Being an Army-trained combat medic (and civilian EMT) and a “biker chick” for over 30 years has had significant influence in my books, but even “ordinary” events can strike a chord or inspire a character or plot idea.
To support my writing habit, I work part-time as a youth sports EMT/trainer and manage the family business (Leader Motorcycle). I’m a soccer fanatic who’s blessed with a very understanding husband and two (almost-grown) children who put up with the “embarrassment” of a motorcycle-riding, romance-writing mom!

Weighing Anchor (allowing a ship to move forward by retrieving the anchor): A professional woman sworn to avoiding all things military finds herself in love with a lieutenant commander in the Navy. Love won't conquer all if she allows her childhood memories to eclipse future happiness.

Dropping Anchor (securing movement by dropping the anchor): Two people find (surprisingly) that they are both in the Navy and love their chosen professions—until one turns out to be an officer but not a gentleman and the other is a gentleman but not an officer.

Anchor Home (safe, smooth sailing): When two former lovers find each other after more than a decade, will a long-hidden secret threaten the course of a rekindled romance or be the cause of it?
