The paranormal helps love along in Dee S. Knight's The Man of Her Dreams

Are psychics real? Dan says NO... Until Cassandra predicts his death. Now he's checking over his shoulder.

Dee, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I'm Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! We're excited to find out more about your hero, but first, tell us about the book.

The Man of Her Dreams by Dee S Knight

    Genre Contemporary erotic romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

Tell us about yourself as a person.

What makes you different from other people?

I was a long-distance trucker for eight years; before that I was a librarian for a large county system; I've lived in 13 different cities since being married (and that doesn't count the number of times we've moved within cities); I was a clerk at Blue Cross of Virginia; I gift wrapped for a whole Christmas season and waitressed at a rest stop on the Florida tollway for a whole summer (the longest of my life); been a phone receptionist, teacher, and headed a technical writing department. I had polio, which is not something you hear much about these days. As one little girl said when I told her, "You must be OLD!" Yup, she was a sweetie.

    What is your personality type?

I like to think I'm an introvert but I can be outgoing and talkative in small groups. Large groups will see me hiding in a corner behind a potted plant. One of my bosses said I can talk to most anyone about most anything. However, one of the things I gained from the pandemic is the ability to stay a hermit without having to feel guilty about it, so I come back to thinking I'm introverted.

What was your favorite childhood game?

Jacks. And I also loved hopscotch. The sidewalks in front of our houses always had a hopscotch grid chalked on it. Jacks was just a good game to play by myself, which as an only child was a good thing.

What is your favorite subject to talk about?

Strangely, I love to talk politics. I don't like to argue politics, however.

    What is your favorite book?

There are so many! But I always come back to Dr. Zhivago. See? Politics! But also history, romance, passion. Great book!

    What is your favorite meal?

Thick pork chops with applesauce and sweet potato. Oh yeah, and maybe green beans. Yum! I'm an Iowa girl—love my piggie!

Tell us about yourself as a writer.

What made you want to be a writer?

Actually, I didn't want to be a writer. When I left my library position to become a long-distance trucker, my boss said to be sure an journal because now I knew what kinds of books readers wanted. But that advice went in one ear and out the other. I only sat down at the keyboard when I was waiting for my husband to finish a consulting job and had a couple of months on my hand. But once I saw my idea take shape on the page, I was hooked. I guess I wanted to write and never realized it until I did it.

When you go to a convention, what kinds of things do you take along?

Extra suitcase for the books I hope to bring back. Lots of legal pads and pens. Patience and energy and excitement to learn new things.

What's your best advice for a new writer?

Write, write, write. Listen to sincere advice on how to write but follow your heart when it comes to what you write. Learn your craft. Read your work out loud as part of self-editing.

What are your writing goals for this year?

Jan Selbourne and I plan a few more joint ventures throughout the year (I loved working with her on Finding a Christmas Miracle) and I want to finish (finally!) book 3 of the Good Man series.

Cassandra Hudson has traveled across country to a small town in South Carolina to find a tall man with deep, blue eyes that she's only met in her dreams. She "sees" that he's in danger and wants to stop him from a possible death. But more than that, she's desperate to solve a mystery that involves her husband who has been dead for over two years. Too bad for her, her dream man wants to solve the mysteries of her body more than help her find a solution to her problem.

When Dan Morgan stops to help a beautiful woman on the side of the road outside his hometown, he doesn't realize that she will drag him into the world of the paranormal in an effort to find out what happened to her husband and the half million dollars he was accused of stealing. What he does realize is the strong attraction he feels for her, despite his distrust of anything mystical, and the undeniable power she holds over him using her sexy body as a lure.

Love—if they can capture it—will make it both easier and harder for them to find the answers they need.

Meet Eileen Troemel @EileenTroemel Author of Marelo #RLFblog #Fantasy RomanceHidden dragons offer advice in Eileen Troemel’s sweet fantasy romance Marelo. A promise to her father drives Marelo to succeed putting aside all other desires. Bandor studies the determined female who he knows to be his mate. What will convince her they are meant to be together?

Eileen, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about Marelo.

    Marelo by Eileen Troemel

Thank you for allowing me to join you. Marelo is a short story about a female studying water dragons and what made them disappear. She comes to Bandor’s beach, the last known place to have one spotted. Bandor knows she’s his mate but he’s willing to wait. His best advisor tells him it’s not as complicated as he’s making it.

    Genre

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG – if this were a movie your toddlers could be in the room.

Marelo studies water dragons. Bandor studies her heart.

Driven to succeed, Marelo focuses on her studies. She doesn’t have time for males claiming her as a mate. She came here to study the dragon’s ancestral home. She will find the evidence she needs while avoiding all males especially Bandor who makes her heart rush.

Bandor takes one look at Marelo and knows she’s his mate. Her haughty demeaner doesn’t put him off. She’s his mate, he’ll do anything to win her. But he has secrets only his mate can know. Can he convince her to be his mate or will it take something more?

Tell us about yourself as a person.

What makes you different from other people?

Not a lot really. I think people at their core want the same things. You probably didn’t want a philosophical answer. Well two things come to mind off the top of my head – I have red hair which is not common and I was born on Leap Year so technically I’ve only had 14 birthdays

    What is your personality type?

I’m an introvert. I like to watch people but I don’t necessarily want to be in the thick of things. I’m more likely to write about what I’ve seen than I am to hold a conversation with others. However, as my family knows I love to talk to the right people.

What was your favorite childhood game?

Hmm well I grew up on a farm and board games were rare. We played a card game named Racko which was fun. With six kids we played baseball and we had a sort of tag game we played. We had a silver fuel tank in our yard and that was goal. One person would hide around the house and people would run around the house. If you were caught by the person, you had to help catch people. Last one standing one.

What is your favorite subject to talk about?

I like to have meaningful conversations, topic doesn’t matter and it doesn’t matter if we agree (in most cases) so long as we both walk away from the conversation having heard the other person’s opinion.

    What is your favorite book?

Theirs is no way I could narrow the many books I’ve read down to just one favorite one. Even if you gave me a genre I couldn’t narrow the category to one. Some of my favorite authors – Piers Anthony, JD Robb/Nora Roberts, Suzanne Brockmann, Anne McCaffery, Mercedes Lackey, Patricia Wrede, JK Rowling, Louis Lamour, Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, Shakespeare, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, ee cummings, Ray Bradbury…. See what I mean?

    What is your favorite meal?

Depends on who’s cooking… my husband – his lasagna… my oldest daughter – beef stroganoff… my middle daughter – chicken carbonara… my youngest daughter – tacos… I miss my mother’s ham and scalloped potatoes and her halo cookies…

Meet Eileen Troemel @EileenTroemel Author of Marelo #RLFblog #Fantasy Romance

Tell us about yourself as a writer.

What made you want to be a writer?

I cannot remember a time when I didn’t tell stories. My parents always called me imaginative. At eight a teacher asked us to write stories and from there, I knew I needed to write.

What are your favorite books for writing advice?

I’m not big on books about writing – probably because I don’t like people telling me how to write. I am very good at taking criticism and self-critiquing my own work. But for books here’s two which I found helpful for when I write sexy books:

Naughty Words for Nice Writers by Cara Bristol & The Sexaurus Sexy Words for Writers by Stefanie Olson et al

What are your favorite reference books?

A good modern big dictionary and a really good thesaurus – both will get you through a rough draft.

When you go to a convention, what kinds of things do you take along?

In addition to writing, I’m crafty too as are my daughters. So my daughters made me bags with a crossword puzzle style graphic of my book titles, water bottles with my logo, bookmarks, resin dragons and other critters, pouches with graphics designed by my daughters. I like to offer a variety so it will appeal to a variety of people.

What’s your best advice for a new writer?

Write your story. Don’t worry about anything other than getting the story down on paper. Read through it when you’re done and take off your writer’s cap and put on your reader’s cap. Would you want to read this? Where do you stumble? What do you want more of? Ask others – nicely – to read your stuff and LISTEN to them. If they actually tell you something other than how great it is, pay attention. Ultimately you’re the author but listen to what you’re told and consider adjusting. Everything – no matter how bad – can be fixed in editing.

What are your writing goals for the next year or so?

In 2022, I plan to publish Marelo in February, Celtan Dilemma in June, Star Stranded (working title) in the fall and at some point between Halloween and Christmas – Bah Humbug will get published. I have two crochet patterns I hope to publish soon.

Looking forward from there, I have completed two novels. I hope complete some projects I’m working on including re-editing a few of my first books and sequels to a few books.

Meet Daryl Devore @daryldevore Author of The Last Dragon #RLFblog #MedievalFantasyMedieval dragons and audiobooks – Daryl Devore publishes a medieval fantasy romance audiobook – The Last Dragon.

Daryl, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about The Last Dragon.

The Last Dragon by Daryl Devore

    Genre Medieval Fantasy Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): G

What do dragons, knights and romance have in common? Grab a copy of multi-published author Daryl Devore’s medieval fantasy romance – The Last Dragon and discover the answer.

A sorcerer craving dominance merged with a dragon, the power overwhelmed him causing him to split into three dragons. Demora ruled thought, but was lost in time. Yidithe offered protection, shining like the light of the sun. Ayrradex craved chaos, revelling in destroying souls.

Many knights died, attempting to slay the devil beast. One knight, Prince Hawkyns, did not fear death. He’d lost everything. Away on a mission when Ayrradex attacked his father’s kingdom, Penrythe, Hawkyns returned to find his noble father – feeble and defeated. His wise mother – crazed. His beautiful wife and unborn child – dead. Only a pile of ashes remained for him to bury. He knelt before his King and vowed to slay the devil-beast or be slain.

Derry was born with powers that terrified her parents. They delivered her to a nunnery to be raised in secret. Jathe, a wise sorceress, discovered the young girl and trained her to one day use the secret hidden in her soul.

Legends spoken around campfires hinted the sole way to destroy Ayrradex was when the hearts of a knight and a golden dragon became one. But after a vicious battle with Ayrradex, the golden dragon was thought to be dead.

Can Prince Hawkyns’s bravery and Derry’s powers end the reign of the devil-beast’s terror?

Tell us about yourself as a person.

What makes you different from other people?

I am me. I dislike doing what other people do. A salesclerk telling me – Oh, everyone is wearing that – will make me put it back and walk away.

    What is your personality type?

Introvert. I sit quietly and watch the world. But once I trust you – we will be friends for life.

What was your favorite childhood game?

Don’t actually think I had one. I took dance lessons and spent my free time at class or practicing at home.

What is your favorite subject to talk about?

Wow! These are tough. I guess it would be my daughter. Who just got married the Saturday before Christmas.

    What is your favorite book?

Anything by Dorothy L. Sayers. She’s a British mystery writer. If I absolutely had to choose 1 – I’d probably say – Gaudy Night.

    What is your favorite meal?

Shrimp smothered in butter and Old Bay seasoning. For dessert – a luscious chocolate mousse.

Tell us about yourself as a writer.

What made you want to be a writer?

Nothing made me. I just am. I was that annoying kid in school who liked writing essays. I found it easy.

What are your favorite books for writing advice?

Not books – people. When I have a writing question, I prefer to ask a human for help. It’s more personal and I get a faster response.

What are your favorite reference books?

Duck Duck Go. It is a search engine that doesn’t track its users. There is nothing I can’t search for there.

When you go to a convention, what kinds of things do you take along?

Never been to a convention. Last conference I signed up for was 20+ years ago and I backed out a month before as the Back Street Boys were performing in town and my tween was about to lose her mind!!

What’s your best advice for a new writer?

Find a critique group. It’s not easy. Try locally. Try online. But find one. You cannot edit your own work.

What are your writing goals for the next year or so?

I don’t make goals. I’ve got a WIP I’d like to finish. If I get it done – I get it done. If not…

A Bear For Christmas is a festive, feel good love story, full of magic, grizzly shifters, and set in a small, snowy mountain town.

Tell us about yourself as a person.

What makes you different from other people?

I’m not sure about anything that makes me specifically different, but I guess everyone is unique in their own way! I’m a mother, a wife, a daughter, a sister and a lover of the written word. I work hard, and play harder most of the time. I’m a little bit witchy, love hanging out with friends and traveling as much as I can. Life is never boring!

    What is your personality type?

I would probably come across as an extrovert, but I am most definitely an introvert. I love my own company and a quiet night at home, writing in bed with a glass of wine and a face mask.

What was your favorite childhood game?

My best friend and I used to make dens underneath our staircases as kids and pretend we were little people who lived there. We still talk about it to this day!

What is your favorite subject to talk about?

Apart from books and writing, I love talking about current events and anything magical.

    What is your favorite book?

How can I pick just one!? At the moment I am loving reading paranormal romance, especially books with witches and shifters. My all time favorite literary book might just be My Dark Vanessa though. It is so very, very good.

Tell us about yourself as a writer.

What made you want to be a writer?

My mother has a great love of books and her and I spent a lot of time reading when I was growing up. As a teen I journaled and started writing my own stories, and it all kind of spiraled from there. When it came to university I knew I didn’t want to study anything except English Lit and Creative Writing, so that’s what I did. It really helped build my craft and my confidence being involved in writing groups, and since then I have also gone on to complete a Masters Degree and study with some big names in the publishing industry. It’s been a fun journey, but independently publishing romance has to be my favorite chapter so far. It is great being in control of what I want to write, when I want to write it, without limits.

What are your favorite books for writing advice?

The Writers’ and Artists’ Yearbook continues to be an invaluable source of information year in and year out. I’ve studied writing at university (both undergrad and postgrad) so I got to know a lot of good reference books for both the established and beginning writer. My inbox is always open if anyone needs any tips!

What’s your best advice for a new writer?

Read. Read. Read. I know it’s a cliche, but it really is the best advice. Also, network, make friends in the author community, take risks and enjoy your writing journey. It’s unique to you and will take many twists and turns, but just have faith and keep going.

What are your writing goals for the next year or so?

I’m currently finishing up the first book in a new paranormal romance series. The series is called The Witches of Valport Springs and the first book will be Black Magic, which releases at the end of March 2022. The second book in the series will also release next year, along with the first book in an academy series set in the same world. I have two anthologies I’m working on, Cocky Alpha Shifters and Eclipsing Hearts. My main goal is to kickstart the world of Valport Springs with a bang, and hope my readers love it as much as I do :)

Tell us about yourself as a person.

What makes you different from other people?

I can be quite eccentric. I spend a lot of time in my head thinking about my character’s lives more than my own.

    What is your personality type?

I’m actually quite shy until I get to know you. I like being sociable but I also like time on my own. Perfect for writing!

What was your favorite childhood game?

Anything make believe – playing shops probably. I had a pretend post office and supermarket set when I was little and loved pretending to serve my family.

What is your favorite subject to talk about?

Books! I spend a lot of time talking about books because I’ve got so many on the go.

    What is your favorite book?

If I had to pin it down to just one and that is so hard, I’d say Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. It’s a classic but still my favourite.

    What is your favorite meal?

Spaghetti Bolognese or anything with pasta in!

Tell us about yourself as a writer.

What made you want to be a writer?

I’ve always loved telling stories, as a child I used to make little books about the places I’d visited. As I grew older, I put my imagination to one side, thinking I’d had to find a ‘real job.’ Life has a way of surprising you.

What are your favorite books for writing advice?

Save the Cat by Jessica Brody, Romancing the Beat by Gwen Hayes.

What are your favorite reference books?

I prefer to read 1st hand accounts. During the first lockdown here in the UK, I read a lot of biographies of nurses in the first world war.

When you go to a convention, what kinds of things do you take along?

Pens, notebooks, water, a lovely bright scarf to wear. I have lots of scarfs- too many but they always cheer me up when I wear one.

What’s your best advice for a new writer?

Just start writing and don’t go back and judge your work until you’ve finished a 1st draft.

What are your writing goals for the next year or so?

Start a new book. I’m leaving behind The Leaves of Change Cafe Series and starting a new romance book.

Meet Marsha R West @Marsharwest Author of Compromise #RLFblog #SecondChance #RomanticSuspenseIn Marsha R West’s second chance romantic suspense, Jessica questions a developer’s use of a construction company she holds responsible for her husband’s death, putting her life in danger.

Marsha, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about Compromise.

    Compromise by Marsha R West

    Genre Second Chance Romantic Suspense

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG13

Widowed, shop keeper, and transplanted Texan Jessica Allen fights to protect the green in the New Hampshire town of Tidbury, settled by her late husband’s family.

New Hampshire of the beautiful fall leaves, picturesque Christmases, and sometimes brutal winters. She’s angry to learn developers plan to use Worley Construction, a company she holds responsible for her husband’s death. When a member of the board of selectmen is murdered, family and friends encourage Jessica to run for the seat. Will threats force her to compromise her principles?

Developer Jeff Hudson wants to build a retirement center on the Tidbury Green. Despite Jessica’s opposition, he believes he can convince her of the need for the center and that its place on the green will leave plenty of room for all of the town’s activities.

But has he partnered with an unsafe builder? How much money will he lose if he breaks the contract to please Jessica? Her position on the board of selectmen may cause a conflict of interest and force them apart. Will more people have to die to save the green?

Will Jessica be forced to compromise to find her second chance at love?

    What is your personality type?

Back in the day, I studied the Myers Briggs Type Indicator. I considered going into business with a person, and we’d work together to help groups know how to better function. Well, the person moved to another state, and I just wasn’t able to handle all the technology of being a long distance partner. However, I did get the training, and I did use it with several groups at my church. According to MBTI, we all have these areas to our personality. When I took the inventory 25 or 30 years ago, I was an ESTJ. That meant I was an Extrovert—energized by being with others, S-A sensing person—using all my senses to take in info; Thinking—tend to be logical rather than emotional in decision making; Judging—likes to have things planned out and likes finishing things rather than being spontaneous.

Now there are no right or wrong answers, better or worse practices. While we can work out of all the areas, we’re more comfortable one place or another.

In reality, I believe I’m an introvert who learned to be successful as an extrovert. As an elementary school principal, acting as an extrovert took a lot out of me. Being retired allows me the alone time, I really need to recharge. Interestingly, I’ve never used this info in my writing. Perhaps it’s time I did for my next book. 😊

What is your favorite subject to talk about?

Probably the importance of good public schools and the importance of quality, affordable early childhood education. The success of our democracy depends on having an educated, thinking, problem solving electorate.

    What is your favorite book?

Little Women. I saw myself as Jo. Being an only child, I loved the large family. I loved the theatrical aspects of the story. (I studied theatre in college.) And of course, there was the love story and the Happily Ever After ending.

What are your favorite books for writing advice?

Strunk & White’s The Elements of Style

Brown & King’s Self Editing for Fiction Writers

And any course you can take from Margie Lawson

What’s your best advice for a new writer?

This one is easy. It’s my mantra: Keep on Keeping on. No one can keep you from becoming a published author except yourself. If you give up, give in, decide the naysayers are right, you lose. But that is your choice. So choose to keep on learning and keep on writing until you decide you have a “good enough” product to share with the world. Notice I didn’t say “perfect” book because it will never be perfect. I don’t care how many people look at it, something will slip through all those eyes. And if you’re lucky and nothing gets through, you will still want to tweak a word of phrase to make it just that little bit better. Seeking perfection will keep you from ever finishing a project.

What are your writing goals for the next year or so?

My 10th book will be set back in Fort Worth. The heroine is the sister of the heroine in Compromise. I have a bare minimum for the story line which has to do with sexual harassment. She’s a community college professor, and the college president is the bad guy. I’m bringing back a supporting character from my second book, Truth Be Told, to play the hero. That is at the request of a fan who has begged for years for this guy to return. I’m glad I’m finally going to be able to do that for her.
