Stressing Dylan Haynes from Lyrical Embrace by Amber Daulton @amberdaulton1 #RLFblog #RomanticSuspenseLet’s meet Dylan Haynes from Lyrical Embrace, a Romantic Suspense, by Amber Daulton. Welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your latest book.

    Lyrical Embrace by Amber Daulton

    Genre Romantic Suspense

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG13

Out-of-work violinist Erica Timberly decides enough is enough. She leaves her abusive boyfriend and flees the big city, but then her car breaks down in the middle of the night. Though wary of men, she accepts help from Dylan Haynes, a stranger driving by on the road, and soon recognizes him as the sexy former drummer of her favorite indie rock band. Maybe, just maybe, her run of bad luck is finally turning around.

Music teacher Dylan Haynes knows Erica is in trouble, and her black eye is only the first clue. The stubborn yet vulnerable woman needs a friend, but he’s determined to give her everything she deserves.

Will Erica listen to the music in her heart and trust Dylan, or will her past always threaten her future?

    Stressing Dylan Haynes

Every hero has a story. He has a background, a history, and a past. This interview allows us to meet a hero and get to know him better, by focusing on how he handles being relaxed, as well as how he handles stress.

Please tell me about your hero.

    Age: 25

    Gender: Male

    Birthplace: Willow Springs, Vermont

Profession: Music Teacher; Ex-Drummer for a rock band

    Ethnicity: Caucasian

What does your hero look like?

He’s about six feet tall with short, spiky brown hair and blue eyes. He keeps in good shape because he’s a volunteer firefighter, so he has to be quick when disaster strikes. He has a sexy red dragon tattoo on his left arm, and it twists around his biceps. Erica loves licking it!

Who is the significant other in his life?

Erica Timberly is the perfect woman for him. She’s strong, beautiful, and stubborn, but vulnerable too. She’s an excellent violinist and loves music just as much as he does. After all the crap she’s gone through, she’s still trusting and kind. She loves with her whole heart, and Dylan is damn glad she picked him.

    The Hero’s Relaxed Side

This hero is at a party. Considering his story, describe the party.

When Dylan lived in New York City, he went to wild parties all the time. Nowadays, back home in Vermont, he doesn’t live and breathe that crazy lifestyle anymore. If he and Erica went to the city for a concert or to go clubbing, he would probably run into some old drinking buddies or hangers-on from when he was performing with his band, Fortune’s Glory. Under pressure, he’d go to the party and see people drinking, snorting drugs in the living room, or having sex in backrooms.

How does the hero feel about being this particular party, and what body language is he displaying that gives it away?

He wouldn’t be happy about it and would feel embarrassed in front of Erica. He used to enjoy wild parties like that and wouldn’t want Erica’s good opinion of him to change. He’d stand around, all stiff, and probably wouldn’t talk a lot.

Is he more likely to mingle or remain aloof?

After a while, he’d try to mingle and make the best of a bad situation.

If he drinks, what is his drink of choice at this party?

He’d keep it simple—just beer. He had a drinking problem back in the day and wouldn’t want to get wasted on whiskey or vodka.

How much drink is his usual?

Just one or two bottles. He doesn’t drink everyday.

The hero figures out where the hiding places are and then goes there. Is it to hide, to avoid someone, or to go drag a friend back to the party?

Once he calmed down and started loosening up, he’d probably take Erica to a closet and make out with her. Even though he’s a reformed bad boy, he’s still a little naughty.

If someone picked a fight at this party, how is the hero going to handle it?

Dylan would try to stay out of it. If someone picked a fight with him and he couldn’t resolve it with words, he’d punch the hell out of the other guy.

Is the hero the one most likely to get tossed out of the party, or the one who does the tossing?

He’s pretty responsible and levelheaded, so he’d be doing the tossing.

Will he know when to leave, or stay late and make a nuisance of himself?

Dylan is a polite guy, so he’d hit the road at a decent hour.

    The Hero’s Stressed Out Side

How does the hero handle it if the cops or some other authority figure pulls him aside when he was blameless in a situation?

Dylan would try to stay calm and explain the situation.

How does the hero react to hearing a scream?

He’d investigate. He’s a volunteer fireman and a certified EMT, so it’s his job to help people.

If he sees someone being assaulted, what is the FIRST thing that crosses his mind?

    To help that person.

If he sees someone being assaulted, what is the FIRST thing he does?

He’d rush in and break up the fight or assault.

This hero attempts to rescue someone and realizes that he is in over his head. The odds are against him and there is no way out. He is going to get his butt handed to him. What does he do?

Dylan would keep fighting for as long and as hard as he could, even though he knew he would probably end up in the hospital.

The hero runs into the one person from his past he wanted to avoid. He can’t get out of the situation and must interact in some way. What does he do?

He would talk in short, choppy sentences and swipe his hand through his hair, a lot.

Someone younger than the hero is in charge of the situation, and they are handling it badly, perhaps bungling things. How does the hero deal with it?

He’d make suggestions but not take control of the situation because he wouldn’t want to embarrass the other guy. If lives were hanging in the balance, he would take over and do what had to be done, no matter what.

What lesson from his past gets him through a stressful situation?

He lived a wild, crazy hound dog life a few years earlier, but he grew sick of it. He didn’t like the person he was becoming, so he quit the band and moved back home. He’s changed a lot since then, and he’s proud of the person he is now. Thinking about that would help him relax him and focus on the situation at hand.

    Introducing Erica Timberly

    Please tell me about yourself.

    Age: 23
    Gender: Female
    Birthplace: New Jersey
    Profession: Violinist
    Ethnicity: Caucasian
    What do you look like?
I have long blonde hair and green eyes. I’m five-feet-eight and a little chunky. My hips are too round for my liking, and though I’m self-conscious about it, I’m happy with my body for the most part.
Who is the significant other in your life?
Dylan Haynes. He was my rock star dream guy for years. After we finally met and started dating, I realized he was so much more beneath the arrogant swagger and very different from my fantasy.
Please tell us about your education.
I have an associate’s degree in Classical Music from a community college in New York City. I wanted to continue my education, but life got in the way. Maybe I’ll return to school in the future.
Are any of your skills a source of pride or embarrassment, and if so, which ones and why?
I play the violin, cello, and other strings. My mother taught me to play the violin when I was younger, but then I received lessons as a teenager. I’m very proud of my musical accomplishments.
    Are you close to family?
My dad and I butted heads a lot when I was teen. He and my mom divorced when I was younger, and then Mom died a few years later. After that, I had to live with Dad and his new wife Mindy, the woman he cheated on my mom with. They have two sons together, but the boys are over ten years younger than me, so we were never close. Even though I still resent my dad for breaking up my parents’ marriage, I’ve opened the doors for reconciliation, mostly at Dylan’s urging.
What past event causes you the most fear?
It’s hard to talk about, but I spent a year in a physically abusive relationship with my ex-boyfriend, Phil. At first, he was sweet and charming. We dated for about a year, and though he kept secrets, I was too foolish and shy to confront him about it. Then I moved in with him, and everything changed. He wanted me to wear my hair differently, wear different clothes, and to quit my job. When I refused, he would hit me and call me names. That was the worse year of my life, and I knew it would only get worse as time went on. I had to break away. To do so, I left everything behind, jumped in my car, and hit the road. I wound up in Vermont and made a fresh start, but I was always worried Phil would find me, and he eventually did. Luckily, Dylan and I survived that ordeal.
What would you like people who hear your story to know?
I’m just a normal, average woman—nothing special about me in that regard—but there are countless women just like me in the world. They’re involved in toxic relationships with people claiming to love them, and they often feel trapped or believe they don’t deserve anything better in their lives. I hope readers who have experienced any type of abuse either in the past or right now will find some hope and encouragement from my story. Everyone deserves a happy ending and a chance to heal, whether that means breaking free from a dangerous cycle of wrong choices, reuniting with loved ones, or moving on from past hurts. You may have a bumpy road ahead, but all you can do is try.

Know the Hero from Lyrical Embrace

Here are some fun questions to help us know your hero.
It’s late, he’s bored. What does he do?
Dylan is a professional drummer and finds playing instruments relaxing. He would rock out on his drum set or play some music at a deafening level.
What kind of food would he impulse buy if hungry?
Tortilla chips. Something salty and crunchy.
Describe the kind of clothes he prefers to wear.
His closet and dresser are full of T-shirts and jeans. He likes the simple things.
Does he know how to fix things?
That depends on what’s broken. If an instrument needs work, he could tune that right up. He’s a volunteer fireman and a certified EMT, so he’s knows first aid and is used to responding to emergences and helping people. He’s no good with cars, though. When Erica’s car clunked out and died on the road, he couldn’t do anything about it. Instead, he served as an excellent chauffeur.
He tried to do something and it went badly. Tell us about it.
Dylan tries to do his best at everything, so if something goes wrong, he’ll try his damnedest to take care of the problem. He’s a pretty laidback kind of guy, however, so he won’t freak out over the problem.
How does he act around children he doesn’t know?
Even though Dylan has a rock star past, he’s now a respectable teacher. A music teacher, that is! He’s around kids all the time, sharing his love of music. His students range from ages eight and up, and he’s comfortable around them from the get-go.
What is he like first thing in the morning?
Too chipper. He’s one of those dreaded morning people.
    Can he use chopsticks?
He’s patient, but not patient enough to learn how to use those.
Does he drink coffee? If so, how does he take it? If not, what does he drink instead?
    Coffee, black.
What apps would he have on his phone?
    The weather app, definitely.
    Android or iPhone?
    Smartphone
    Beard or clean-shaven?
Clean-shaven mostly, but sometimes a little scruffy.
    Earrings/piercings/tattoos or unadorned skin?
He has a red dragon tattoo on his arm. It wraps around his biceps, and Erica loves kissing and licking it.
    Personal vehicle or public transport?
He has a silver sedan, which he makes payments on.
    Recycle or toss?
Recycle. His family is big on taking care of the environment, so he always separates his trash.
Thanks for helping us get to know your hero!

Meet Dylan from Lyrical Embrace, Suspense by Amber Daulton @AmberDaulton1 #RLFblog #RomanticSuspense

Meet Dylan from Lyrical Embrace, Suspense by Amber Daulton @AmberDaulton1 #RLFblog #RomanticSuspense Welcome Dylan Haynes from Lyrical Embrace, a new Romantic Suspense by Amber Daulton.

    Meet Dylan Haynes

    Age: 25
    Gender: Male
    Birthplace: Willow Springs, Vermont
Profession: Music Teacher; Ex-Drummer for a rock band
    Ethnicity: Caucasian
Dylan, please provide a physical description of yourself.
I’m about six feet tall with short, spiky brown hair and blue eyes. I keep in good shape because I’m a volunteer firefighter, and I gotta be quick when disaster strikes. I have a red dragon tattoo on my left arm, and it twists around my biceps.
Please tell us a little about yourself.
I like to think of myself as a normal guy, and I hope I portray that to the people I first meet. I used to play for an indie rock band, Fortune’s Glory, but most people don’t recognize me since the band never made it big. I’m grateful for that. I’ve moved back home to Willow Springs, so I usually don’t meet clubbers and fans anymore.
Who is the significant other in your life?
Erica Timberly is the perfect woman for me. She’s strong, beautiful, and stubborn, but vulnerable too. She’s an excellent violinist and loves music just as much as I do. After all the crap she’s been through, she’s still trusting and kind. She loves with her whole heart, and I’m damn glad she picked me.

    Insight from the Author

How educated is this character? Is he book smart, self-taught, widely-experienced?
Dylan grew up around music because his parents owned and operated a music academy, so he spent a lot of time learning to play the drums and other instruments. Music is his life, and even he dropped out of college freshman year to join Fortune’s Glory when he was eighteen years old.
Are any of his skills a source of pride? Embarrassment? Which ones and why?
He’s an excellent drummer and is proud of that, but he loves to teach as much as he loves performing. When his students succeed, he feels as though he’s accomplished something great and takes pride in their achievements.
What is your character’s family like?
Dylan’s parents and siblings are supportive and understanding. He’s the baby in the family, but they treat him like an adult, most of the time. His mom has a knack for embarrassing him, but he knows she only does so because she loves him.
Is your character involved in his community?
Yes, very much so. After years of partying and having fun, he wanted to do something good and give back to the community where he’d come from, so he volunteers as a fireman. As such, he’s also a certified EMT.
What is your hero’s biggest hopes and dreams?
He always wanted to be a famous musician, but his dreams changed when he was on tour and playing clubs with Fortune’s Glory. He didn’t like the person he was turning into. The drugs, alcohol, and groupies distracted him from the music, so he was just going through the motions and no longer enjoying himself. After quitting the band, he found a new dream and succeeded in reaching it. He has a real, down-to-earth life, which includes a good job and a loving woman. Life couldn’t be better for him.

About Your Writer: Questions for your character to answer about you.

To honor the person who chose to share your story, please answer at least four of these questions. Questions with more than one point should be considered one question. You may answer as many more as you like.
What do you wish your writer, Amber, had not told others about you?
Back when I was still drumming for Fortune’s Glory, Erica attended the concerts at the clubs and crushed hard on me, but I didn’t even know she existed. I just never saw her in the crowd of screaming, dancing fans. I was nothing but an arrogant, sexist hound dog back then, and Erica knew it. After I stopped drinking and left the band, I headed back home to get my life together. Then Erica and I finally met. I’m embarrassed of the way I acted before, but I’ve since proved to Erica I’m a changed man.
When your writer is writing about you, what do you think makes your writer the most sad? What makes your writer the most happy?
I think Amber was a little sad when writing about my bandmate who overdosed on heroin. That time in my life was difficult for me, so I’m relieved she didn’t go in great detail about it. More than anything, she was getting all weepy when writing about Erica’s past. You see, Erica was in an abusive relationship before we met, so Amber had no choice but to mention it.
At the end of the story, Amber really enjoyed writing the scene where Erica fought back against her ex and finally broke free from him for good. Amber prefers strong female leads, and that’s definitely Erica.
Why do you think your writer loves to write?
She likes making people smile and giving them happy endings. I’m a prime example of that. I was getting my life back on track after quitting the band, but then Amber introduced me to Erica. Wow! That one moment changed everything for me, and I wouldn’t give it up for all the money or fame in the world.
What other character from your book do you think your writer should write a book about? Care to tell us why?
Lyrical Embrace is book four in the Deerbourne Inn series–a multi-author collaboration of novellas–and each author is only allowed to write one book in the series. Hopefully, that will change because my older brother, Birley, desperately needs a woman in his life. His ex-wife split town years ago, and he’s raising his son and daughter alone. The kids are great–don’t get me wrong–but he needs another reason to get out of bed in the morning. All he does is work at the music academy and take care of the kids. He rarely dates. Damn, the man doesn’t even bed hop. So I hope Amber will brighten up Birley’s future sooner rather than later. If not, I’m gonna have a long talk with her.
