    Genre paranormal romance/mystery

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG

Running away isn’t necessarily the answer.
In her mad rush to escape a failed marriage, Sara Woods takes the first job available and lands in the middle of a mystery. Her first assignment as a news reporter for the Ralston Courier is the investigation of a string of deaths, all young women, all her age.
She becomes a patient at the Goldstone Clinic, a local mecca of healing, to deal with chronic pain from her past. But all is not as it seems at the Goldstone, its doctors and nurses are all the picture of perfect beauty and health. Patients at the clinic first seem to get better, then they deteriorate. Sara enlists the help of Dr. Rick Paulsen, who teaches her how to access her internal power, skills she never knew she had, revealing secrets from her past. The closer they work together, the more she falls in love with him. Police officer Brendon Zale also takes an interest in Sara, but he acts like a stalker, watching her every move, and he won’t leave her alone.
As she digs deeper into the story, and more young women die without explanation, she tries to choose allies wisely, but not till the last confrontation does she discover the identity of her true enemy.
    By then, it’s too late.

    Introducing Sara Woods

    Please tell me about yourself.

    Age: 24

    Gender: female

Birthplace: a small town in Pennsylvania

    Profession: newspaper journalist

    Ethnicity: Caucasian

    What do you look like?

Petite, short dark brown hair, wide brown eyes. Not model-pretty, but I catch people’s attention

Who is the significant other in your life?

It used to be my husband Jesse. But that’s over. So now I’ve met Rick Paulsen, a tall young blond doctor with Brad-Pitt blue sapphire eyes—my downfall.

    How do you dress?

Definitely casual and comfortable. The life of a reporter is pretty hectic. You never know where you’re going to end up in the course of a day, especially with an editor like mine. One minute you could be in City Hall and the next, in a cow barn!

On what special skills do you rely?

Mostly I work by my intuition—what I feel in my gut. When you’re working for a newspaper, sometimes you’re doing a story people want you to do, and sometimes you’re uncovering something awful. You have to know when people are telling you the truth. If you don’t think they are, then you have to cross-check and do your research to be able to bring your readers the truth.

What kinds of things do you always carry (in pockets or purse)?

I always have a pen and a notebook. You never know when you’re going to get a quote from someone—it’s important to have the reputation of getting things right.

    Are you close to family?

No, my parents have passed on, and there really isn’t anyone else. That’s why I packed up and left Pittsburgh after the divorce. I had nowhere to “go home” to, so I just grabbed the first newspaper job I could find.

How well do you know your neighbors?

My landlady, Thelma McCracken, lives downstairs, and I have the apartment in the upstairs of her house. She used to be a reporter for the Courier back in the day, and she has a finger in just about every pot in town. She’s a great source for material, and she also worries about me like an old maiden aunt.

What would you like people who hear your story to know?

That you never know everything about someone, even if you love them with all your heart. Protect yourself and stay safe.

Introducing Temms Rogers from Horizon Crossover series, by Lyndi Alexander #RLFblog #spaceopera #SciFiLet’s meet Temms Rogers from Horizon Crossover series, a space opera, by Lyndi Alexander. Welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about the story your author wrote.

Horizon Crossover series by Lyndi Alexander

    Genre science fiction, space opera
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): G
In an attempt to save his ship and its crew, Captain Temms Rogers uses an untested alien technology which hurls the Doubtful and its occupants away from a massive space battle. Rogers awakens to find his ship crippled and his crew decimated. They are lost in an unknown region of space, but they are but not alone. As they struggle to survive, they encounter multiple local groups, including mystical beings known as the Ancients. Can Rogers and the crew of the Doubtful find a way to survive in this strange corner of the universe?
Rogers and the crew of the spaceship Doubtful are caught between a powerful interplanetary group called the Agency and mystical beings known as the Ancients.
With the voices of the Ancients haunting his dreams and a mysterious illness plaguing his crew, Rogers must find a derelict space station and discover its secrets before the Agency destroys them all.
The Agency is tired of Captain Rogers’ urging for democracy in their region of space. Rogers soon realizes the Agency intends to use him and the crew of the Doubtful for their purposes or else.
Can he gather the other captains of the sector in rebellion against the Agency, with all its echoes of his earlier battle against the Confederation, and bring down their repressive regime? Or will Rogers lead his crew into a fight they cannot win?

    Introducing Temms Rogers

    Please tell me about yourself.
    Age: 57

    Gender: male

    Birthplace: Planet Gilada

Profession: spaceship captain, formerly military, now mercenary

    Ethnicity: Descendant of western Europeans

    Species (for scifi/fantasy characters): Human
    What do you look like?
Not too bad for a man of my age. But the years are creeping up on me, you know? A little thicker round the middle than I used to be. Hair more salt than pepper these days. But I earned every one of those gray hairs.
Who is the significant other in your life?
It was Kitana, my first officer. But she died in the Crossover to this universe. I’m still getting used to the idea she’s gone.
    How do you dress?
For so many years, I wore the Confederation uniform. Since I’ve broken with my old commanders, though, I’m just as likely to be seen commanding the ship in a bright-colored Hawaiian shirt and slacks.
    Are you book-smart, self-taught, widely-experienced?
I went through the basics at the Academy, then went on to study history and military tactics for an advanced certificate. But I tend to live by what I learned in practice on the deck of a spaceship. Most importantly, I’ve learned how to size up people. Just because they’ve been in trouble with the law, or failed by society’s rules, doesn’t mean they can’t become a valuable crew member. This is very important to me.
What is your viewpoint on wealth?
Wealth? As in great piles of money? Doesn’t really matter to me. My ex-wife Connie always competed in the officers’ wives chaos—who had the best personal vehicle, maids, proper landscaping, all that. But these days as long as I can keep my crew working and fed, I’m pretty happy. That is, until greedy taxing bodies like the Agency come along, trying to take an unfair percentage of what we’ve earned. Then I’ve just got to politely—or not so politely—decline.
Are you close to family? Do you have children?
I have twins, a boy and a girl, still in school, living with their mother. Our oldest son Tommy followed me into service with the Confederation. I don’t think his mother will ever forgive me.
If someone from your past showed up, who would you most want it to be, and why?
I’d love to see my daughter Linz. *with a sigh* She always was a little shallow; her mother encouraged that stuff about being fashionable regardless of the cost, about being a pretty butterfly rather than a smart student. But now that we’re in a new universe, I expect I’ll never see her or her twin brother Alex again.
If someone from your past showed up, who would you most NOT want it to be, and why?
Jal Burko. He led the Confederation mission that hit my breaking point and caused our ship to rebel. The last thing I heard him say when we used the alien device to escape his vengeful attack was that he’d get me for this. As it stands, he may have followed me into this new universe. If so, I expect he won’t give up until one of us kills the other.

Know the Hero from A Small Degree of Hope

Here are some fun questions to help us know your hero.
It’s late, he’s bored. What does he do?
Griff would revert to his reptile form and go hunting for something to eat.
What kind of food would he impulse buy if hungry?
    Definitely raw steak
Describe the kind of clothes he prefers to wear.
When he’s around humans, he tries to dress unobtrusively–a pullover shirt and jeans. In his reptile form, he finds no need for clothing.
Does he know how to fix things?
Yes. He’s very good at working with things–not so much, working with people.
He tried to do something and it went badly. Tell us about it.
Once he’s fallen in love with Kylie, he only wants to save her. But his people want to transform her into a breeding reptile. He is only one alien against all of them, so he isn’t successful at first. He blames himself for her pain.
How does he act around children he doesn’t know?
He loves all small beings, human or alien. He would try to make them laugh.
What is he like first thing in the morning?
He’s all business, at least during the time of our story. We imagine, though, that if he could come to a time in his life where he’s not at war, he could spend time sharing heat with a mate.
How does he act around people who don’t know what he is?
Griff knows that his kind is the aggressor in this conflict, so he’s on guard against most humans at the time of the story. The SIRT officers would likely kill him, not knowing if he’s “one of the good ones.” So he is very low-key and cautious with humans he doesn’t know and trust.
Will he let a worker handle things or do it himself?
He’s a hands-on type of alien–when the only one you can count on is yourself, you need to make sure you’re safe. Fortunately he lets Kylie into his circle and they trust each other.
    Earrings/piercings/tattoos or unadorned skin?
His natural scales are a beautiful mottled red–why decorate?
    Personal vehicle or public transport?
Since he is on a human world instead of his own, he’s mostly on foot or with Kylie in her car.
    Recycle or toss?
He is involved in a life or death struggle with his own people, trying to save human women–I doubt he even thinks about it. Priorities, right?
Thanks for helping us get to know your hero!
