    About the Book

    Genre Paranormal Cozy

Jack Lang knows first hand about Destiny’s secrets–turns out he was one of them. Five months ago he and his unlikely band of heroes defeated some nasty creatures intent on taking advantage of the Paramortals’ powerlessness during Chaos. After surviving the Chaos with the help of their resident dragon, Jack received the biggest shock of his life. And that was saying a lot.
He’d chosen Destiny for the normalcy and safety it could provide his teenager after a life of their own kind of chaos with Jordie’s mother. He’d been looking for Mayberry. Instead he’d found not a town, but a world full of magical beings, odd occurrences, and quite frankly, monsters. Think, Middle Earth. There’d been one shock after another and yet, instead of leaving and taking Jordie somewhere “safe”… he’d stayed.
Looking back, everything had started when he met Tempest Pomeroy. That was when his world turned upside down—along with half the town. He’d surprised himself with his acceptance of the supernatural. And he’d almost accepted this latest blow, but that was before he found out he no longer belonged anywhere. Not with humans, and not among supernaturals. Something had gone haywire in his family DNA.
Now the women in his life feel he’s abandoned them. Actually, he’s abandoned everything except for the need to quench this gnawing hunger in his gut and the compulsion to jump off the highest levee in Laccasine Parish.
Too bad there were no mountains in Louisiana.

    About the Author

Livia Quinn is a DC native who’s lived on the bayou in Louisiana for thirty years. After experiencing weather disasters in the South, it was only natural that they would play a part in her Storm Lake world, a place where supernaturals and mere-mortals co-exist (but on different ends of the lake. That’s one of the rules. Never let the mortals see you use your magic.)

Ridge Romano was a genius inventor, child prodigy, military
contractor and CEO of two multi-billion dollar companies; and he was on a
mission. With a background like that, fun was not a word in his vocabulary
until recently, and he gave a five year old credit for that. So with such
attention to his priorities, how had he wound up on a stage between two cover
models playing strip bingo, in front of a hundred women crying “Tucker, take it
off”? He’d paid for this… somehow.
Buffy Calloway’s face and body were recognizable worldwide
but the face she was looking for was the face of her franchise. She’d come to
the romance conference to find that face, interviewing cover models from around
the world, and she’d found her man. Tucker – the late arrival who that je ne
sais quoi that would put her studio on the map, make her talent agency and
    photography studio an immediate success.
She had to have him. There was just one problem. He wasn’t a
cover model, and ‘said’ he had more important priorities – veterans. Who was
she to argue with such a noble cause? The trouble was the Calloways always knew
what they wanted, and Buffy wanted Tucker. Could this be the first time a
    Calloway was wrong?

What’s your favorite down-home family style meal? Home-made enchiladas. I have a great recipe for chili that I cook down the second or third day and top corn tortillas, filled with sweet onion and cheddar cheese with the chili. OMG, I must go make some chili…
What is your go-to meal when you dine out?
Longhorn – filet mignon, baked potato and salad. I’m almost always traveling because there aren’t any near me in Louisiana.
Who is your “book boyfriend” (that hottie you read about and drool over)?
Hmm, it’s still between J.D. Robb’s Roarke and Matthew Clairmont from Deborah Harkness’ All Souls Trilogy. Start on either one, they’re like chocolate. Dark, luscious, addicting, yummy…

To say I was having a bad day would be like saying Katrina dropped a little rain on the Gulf Coast. My name is Tempest Pomeroy. I’m a mail carrier in Destiny, Louisiana, and a Paramortal like my family. Or I’m supposed to be. If I didn’t have a few little talents, I’d think I was adopted.
Before I left for work, I discovered my brother’s amphora missing from the mantle—that’s genie bottle to you mere-mortals— and on my first delivery, a handsome scantily clad doctor triggered some sort of hallucination with just a touch. Pheromones? Then one of my customers had a stroke while reading me the riot act over a piece of mail, but I saved the old grouch with a zap of my Zeus juice, only to have Destiny’s hunky new sheriff show up minutes later.
And again, when the owner of Flowers by Dick filed a complaint against me for dropping a seventy-five pound box on his foot. Yeah, I did it, but it was kind of an accident. He put his hand where it didn’t belong and I… sorta dropped the box. Things went downhill from there.
I discovered a dead body in the clubhouse and rescued my brother’s amphora from a locker, bashing it in with a Greg Norman wedge…and guess who showed up?
I’ve denied my heritage as a Tempestaerie for too long. Now, my mother’s out of pocket, my brother’s missing and the sheriff thinks one of us is guilty of murder. Is it any wonder I’m calling this the worst M.A.L.E day of my life?
Oh, and the sheriff? He thought he’d settled in a normal small town to raise his teenage daughter. Like Mayberry. We’ll see how that turns out…  Things better settle down soon ‘cause I’m about to go Storm Crazy.

Meet Sheriff Jack Lang from Take These Broken Wings by Livia Quinn.

    About the Book

Title Take These Broken Wings, Destiny Paramortals, Book 5
    Genre Paranormal Romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG13
Destiny. Is it Mayberry or Middle Earth?
Jack Lang knows first hand about Destiny’s secrets. Turns out he was one of them. On Mardi Gras Eve he and his unlikely band of heroes defeated some particularly nasty creatures intent on taking advantage of the Paramortals’ vulnerability during the Chaos. They called it Chaos because the word “Armageddon” was already taken. Destiny survived with the help of their dragon and some special friends, then Jack received the biggest shocks of his life. And that was saying a lot.
He’d chosen this town the year before for the normalcy and safety it could provide his teenager after a life of upheaval with his ex. He’d been looking for Mayberry. Instead he’d found, not a town, but a world full of magical beings, odd occurrences, and scary creatures. There’d been one shock after another and yet, instead of leaving and taking Jordie somewhere “safe”… he’d stayed.
Now he suspected he felt the pull of this special place long before he’d known it existed. But that hadn’t been the only reason. It had all begun the first time he’d seen Tempest Pomeroy. That was when his world had turned upside down—along with half the town. He’d surprised himself with his acceptance of the supernatural. He’d even almost accepted this latest blow, but that had been before he found out he no longer belonged anywhere. Not with humans, and not among supernaturals. Something had gone haywire in his family DNA.
Now he’s abandoned the women in his life, his responsibilities–everything except for the need to quench the gnawing hunger in his gut and this compulsion to jump off the highest levees in the parish. He was just sorry there were no mountains in Louisiana.

    Introducing Sheriff Jack Lang

Welcome to Romance Lives Forever! We’re happy to have you here today.
Thanks, it’s good to be here. I’m Jack Lang, thirty-three, former Navy pilot, now Sheriff of Destiny, Louisiana. I have a spunky, beautiful fifteen year old daughter named Jordie.
    Ethnicity/Species (if not human):
Hmm, great question, actually. I always thought I was human, or maybe I still am, in addition to being a dragon. I guess you could say things are in “transition”.
Describe your body and build, skin tone, height and weight. Include any unique features such as dimples, freckles, or scars:
I used to be around 6′ 2″, dark complected, brown hair and green eyes but I’ve gotten taller and more muscular recently. When I shift, I turn into a big sparkly dragon with silver eyes.
    Who is your significant other.
Five months ago, I would have told you it was Tempe. Now, I could be in the dog…er…  dragon house…cave. My life has kinda gone FUBAR.
Tell us a little about yourself.
After getting full custody of my daughter, my parents suggested I run for sheriff in Destiny. I figured it would be the perfect (normal) place to recover from the craziness of our life with my ex, Georgeanne.
    I was wrong.
Please tell us about your education.
I signed up for the U.S. Navy as soon as I graduated and within two years was doing what I always wanted to do. Fly. I knew the Navy would supply everything I desired – travel, education, a career and women. I figured those would be the most important things in my life. Then my daughter Jordie came along.
Do you get by, live comfortably, live extravagantly?
I live simply because nothing matters but keeping Jordie safe and providing for her needs, but that hasn’t been simple. Nothing’s simple when it comes to G-Crazy.
On what special skills do you rely?
Until recently, the only special skill I had was flying, but then I was blindsided with this quickening thing and now I can’t even do that.
Are any of your skills a source of pride or embarrassment, and if so, which ones and why?
Definitely embarrassment. This new form I’ve taken on, though it’s not exactly a skill, well, I should have more control over it. When Conor shifts he morphs into an awesome dragon knight with these giant swords strapped to his shoulders. Me? I just wind up naked as a jaybird. And what good is a dragon that can’t breathe fire, or fly? Embarrassing is not the word.
    How do you dress?
Nothing exciting. I wear a sheriff’s uniform, unless I’ve just shifted, then… see the previous question.
How well do you know your neighbors?
Ha! Neighbors. Is that a euphemism for crazy supernaturals? Cause that’s what my town is all about. I know a heck of a lot more now that I did six months ago when I moved here thinking it was a quaint, ordinary town for Jordie. Seriously, I was thinking “Mayberry”. But instead, I found Middle Earth.
    What is your breaking point?
I didn’t think I had one, until I met Tempest Pomeroy and the citizens of Destiny.
But that was then… now, I think I overestimated my own resilience, and possibly my mental stability.
Do you see morality as black-and-white, or with shades of gray?
Black and white was the old Jack. Things were so much simpler then; now it seems I see nothing but gray. I’m having a hard time with change, and my relationships with Tempe and my daughter are suffering. If I don’t get it together soon, I’m going to lose everything.

I’m Tempest Pomeroy, and my human job is delivering the mail. To say I was having a bad day would be like saying Katrina dropped a little rain on New Orleans. First, River’s amphora went missing—that’s genie bottle to you mere-mortals. I know— the names right? We were just lucky we didn’t end up as Black Cloud and Little Sprinkle. Or Flash and Flood. With my hair, I’d have been Flash. I’m also a Paramortal like the rest of my family. Or I’m supposed to be. If it wasn’t for a few little talents I’d think I was adopted.
On my first delivery, a scantily clad doctor triggered a hallucination when we touched. Pheromones? An old trouble-maker had a stroke but I saved the old fart with a zap of my Zeus juice! It was the first time I’d actually called my power on purpose, and our hunky new sheriff almost saw me use my magic—big no-no. He showed up again when the owner of Flowers by Dick complained that I’d dropped a seventy-five pound box on his foot. Yeah, I did, but it was an accident. He put his hand on my butt and my hands sorta… slipped. Then things really went downhill.
I discovered a dead body while rescuing River’s bottle from a locker as the sheriff arrived again. Now, my brother’s missing, my mother’s AWOL and the sheriff and my ex-lover are squaring off like yard dogs staking a claim on a poodle. I am no one’s poodle. Aurora says all this chaos is a sign of my quickening power and things are only going to get worse.
Oh, and the sheriff? He thought he’d settled in a normal small town to raise his teenage daughter. Like Mayberrry. We’ll see how that turns out. Things had better settle down soon, ‘cause I’m about to go Storm Crazy.
