Not a great intro! It’ll take a little Christmas magic and not-so-subtle powers of persuasion for her to add falling in love to her Christmas to-do list. It’s matchmaking at its funniest in Don’t Mess with Christmas by Linda O’Connor.

Don’t Mess with Christmas by Linda O’Connor

    Genre Holiday Romantic Comedy

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG

Dr. Brogan Corkie is happily semi-retired from medicine and now has time for other hobbies. Her passion for food is second only to her skill at matchmaking!

Parker Roy grew up in the middle of four brothers and has lived with enough testosterone to last her a lifetime. She’s finally moved out and made a life of her own. Between putting the finishing touches on the set for Mapleton’s Christmas play, plowing snow, and transforming her hydroponic greenhouse into a Christmas wonderland, it’s ramping up to be a hectic season.

Dr. Julian Murphy, the only allergist in town, has his eye on the woman behind the set design of the holiday play. He’s volunteering backstage in the hope of getting to know her. There’s a bit of a snag when she’s referred to his clinic for a rash – doctors aren’t allowed to date their patients – but Dr. Brogan Corkie doesn’t see it as an insurmountable problem and steps in to give their romance a nudge. She’d better be right because, if not, it could seriously mess with Christmas.

The allergist or the rash– which itch will Parker scratch?

    Two Tips for Household Chores

I thought I’d share 4 tips for being the best dinner party guest ever!

When you’re invited to a dinner party, it’s always a lovely gesture to bring a gift for the hosts. Cut flowers are a traditional favorite, but do the host a favor and shop for an inexpensive vase at the Dollar Store and arrange the bouquet before you go. Nothing is more awkward than searching for a vase and scrambling to welcome guests while trying to save the flowers. They’ll thank you.

Practical edible gifts are a delicious alternative. Try flavored olive oils, infused balsamic vinegars, or a unique honey. Napkins and candles are always useful. One of the best gifts I’ve received was homemade jam.

And there’s this – if you bring a bottle of wine that doesn’t get opened, leave it for the hosts. Don’t take it back – that’s just, no. Even if they’re relative teetotalers, they can always use it for cooking or serve it to other guests in the future. Same goes if you bring a dish to share. Offer the leftovers to the hosts. They’ll thank you the next day when they can relax without cooking!

As a guest it’s always easier to lean on the hosts for introductions to people you don’t know, but you can help make the party a success by breaking the ice yourself. Here are a few suggestions to start a conversation (beyond talking about the weather!):

Does your family have any secret or famous recipes?

What’s your favorite restaurant that other people don’t tend to know about?

If you weren’t working at your current job, what would you probably be doing right now?

What was your first job? Did you like it?

What surprised you most about your current job?

If you could fly anywhere for free, where would you go?

Do you prefer action-packed vacations or relaxing on the beach?

Do you have any hidden talents or surprising hobbies?

There you have it – as you get back to socializing with friends, be the best dinner party guest!

Pick up cool tips from Linda O'Connor author of Perfectly Christmas by @LindaOConnor98 #RLFblog #HolidayRomancePerfectly Christmas in a small town – it takes a village to keep their beloved family doctor and the new surgeon in town APART! Heaven forbid the two should fall in love and leave. A fun holiday romance by Linda O’Connor.

Linda O’Connor, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Thanks for sharing two tips with us today, but first, please tell us about Perfectly Christmas.

    Perfectly Christmas by Linda O’Connor

    Genre Holiday Romantic Comedy

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG-13

On the first day of Christmas, his true love said to him, “Sorry, I have to work.”

That’s the life of a surgeon, and Dr. Madison Hayes wouldn’t have it any other way.

Dr. Quinn Malone has another priority. In the countdown to Christmas, he needs to convince his old flame that there’s more to life – and love – than the job itself.

This time, his heart is in it for the long haul. Really.

    Romantic and…complicated – it’s Perfectly Christmas!

    Two Tips for Household Chores

I love setting a formal table, and I have a lot of fun creating colorful tablescapes. I thought I’d share tips for a proper place setting. There are rules!

Have you ever sat down at a dinner party and wondered which bread plate is yours? An easy way to remember is the pneumonic BMW – the bread plate, meal plate, and water glass are placed from left to right. So your bread plate is the one on the left!

If you’re setting a formal table, the placement of the flatware (fancy name for cutlery) matters. Forks are placed to the left of the dinner plate and the knife and spoons to the right. Put them in the order that you will use them from the outside in. For example, a meal that includes soup, salad, main course, and dessert, in that order, would have two forks to the left of the dinner plate and a knife and soup spoon on the right. The salad fork is the slightly smaller one and would be to the left of the dinner fork because you’ll be using it first. The blade of the knife should face the dinner plate, and the soup spoon is placed to the right of the knife. The dessert fork and spoon are put above the plate. The spoon is oriented with the bowl of the spoon on the left, and the tines of the fork should point to right (that’s opposite to where they are at the side of the plate), and the fork is closest to the top of the plate. When I set a table, I also use chargers – they look like large plates and come in an array of colors. I leave them on the table throughout the meal, but some people remove them before the main course is served.

The water glass and stemware (fancy name for wine glasses) are placed above the knife to the right of the dinner plate. The water glass is above the knife and the wine glass is placed to the right of that. If you’re having both red and white wine, the red wine glass is placed above the white wine glass.

When you sit down as a guest, the first thing you should do is place your napkin on your lap. I prefer to place the napkin on the charger secured with a pretty napkin ring. Sometimes the napkin is underneath the forks – keep in mind that it’s considered bad form to fling your fork onto the floor when you pull out your napkin!

If you’re stuck for a Christmas gift, a tablecloth and napkins are handy all year round especially if you don’t limit yourself to traditional Christmas colours. No matter how fancy a table you set, raise a glass to family and good friends getting together (safely) to share love and laughter during the holiday season!

Read the series: Perfectly Honest (Perfectly Series Book 1) by Linda O'Connor @LindaOConnor98 #RLFblog #MedicalRomanceThere is something – and someone – for everyone in the sassy, sexy humorous contemporary romances of the Perfectly Series by Linda O’Connor. In Perfectly Honest, book 1 of the Perfectly Series, one little white lie sweeps Dr. Mikaela Finn off her feet and triggers an avalanche of change. Sam O’Brien, a.k.a. Dr. Eye Candy, is caught up in the wild ride. Lies and deceit – it’s a match made in heaven!

Linda, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your series.

Perfectly Honest in the Perfectly Series

    Genre Medical Romantic Comedy

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG-13

You never know where your words will take you…

When Mikaela Finn agreed to be Sam’s “fiancée” for a weekend, she probably should have told him that she’s a doctor. Sam O’Brien, aka “Dr. Eye Candy,” is trying to shed his playboy reputation and convince a small town hospital that he’s ready to settle down. But when his “fiancée” helps deliver a baby in the middle of the meet and greet, it’s a bit of a shock. If he’d known the whole truth, he might have done things a little differently because somehow his “fiancée” ends up stealing his job and his heart. Not exactly the change he wanted. Lies and deceit – it’s a match made in heaven!

Which book is this in the series?

Perfectly Honest is the first book in the Perfectly Series. All of the books in the series are all stand-alone happily-ever-afters, but the characters from the previous books pop up in later stories and you get a glimpse of what’s happened in their lives as you read through the series.

How many books do you plan for the series?

There are 6 books in the series. Even though Perfectly Reasonable and Perfectly Planned are the second and third books respectively, they flash back to a couple of years before the events in the first book, Perfectly Honest. By Perfectly Unpredictable, things are all caught up! I wrote Perfectly Honest first and then realized I had to go back in time a bit to explain the events that happen in Margo’s life in the second book. It’s honestly not as confusing as it sounds.

    How many books are completed?

    All 6!

What characters are the main stars in your series?

You fall in love with a new couple with each story, but the main stars are Dr. Mikaela Finn (along with Sam O’Brien) and Dr. Margo MacMillan (and her beau, Trace Bennett). The women are best friends who waded through medical school together and now share the ups and downs of their love lives.

What is the overall theme in this series?

There is something – and someone – for everyone! The 6 books of the Perfectly Series are humorous contemporary romances set in a trio of small towns. The sassy characters in these sexy romantic comedies are doctors, painters, a translator, and a rock star – well, they’re all rock stars but only one plays guitar! Each couple has their own story, but they pop up in the other stories and stay in touch. You can escape to a small town and share in the love and laughter.

Please list the series titles below, in any order you prefer.

    Perfectly Together

Read the series: Perfectly Honest (Perfectly Series Book 1) by Linda O'Connor @LindaOConnor98 #RLFblog #MedicalRomance

What did you like best about writing this series?

When I write a book, I’m caught up in the characters’ lives for the better part of a year. It’s always bittersweet to move onto the next project and leave them behind. In this series, it was fun to revisit them and catch up with the next steps in their lives – their weddings, starting families, their careers. Dr. Mikaela Finn, the heroine in the first book, is an obstetrician. That profession made her an easy character to carry through and slip into the other books. I really enjoyed the challenge of intertwining the lives of the characters – and it felt like I was leaving little gifts or special notes for loyal readers who had read the previous stories.

What other books (not in this series, have you written?)

I’ve written 4 steamy hockey romances for the In the Game Hockey Romance series, 4 sweet romantic comedies in the Dr. Brogan Matchmaking Doctor series, and Time for the Doctor, a medical romance, which is part of a collection of books set in Copper Mills, Arizona.

When the team spirals out of control and Danni and Trey get caught up in a drug scandal, things heat up on and off the ice. It’s a whole new game plan…Behind the Bench.

    Tech Tip

Keeping your home and computer safe from hackers starts by keeping your WiFi router secure. If you’ve never changed the default settings on your router – both the username and password – now’s the time to consider doing so.

If a hacker can figure out the model of your router, chances are they can crack your password if you haven’t changed it from the factory setting. Routers often share common default settings and a determined hacker can take advantage of weak points in a particular model’s security or sneak in using the default passwords.

Change your router’s username so that it doesn’t identify your service provider or your address. This makes it more challenging for a hacker to determine the type of router you’re using. The default password should also be changed. Annoying as it is to have a long password incorporating uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols, it gives you an extra layer of protection since it’s harder to guess. For added security, the password should be changed regularly – when you change the clocks for daylight savings time, change your router password, too!

Here’s an additional tip: place your router in the middle of your home. Not only will it provide equal access to the WiFi signal throughout your home, it keeps the signal from spilling too widely outside the perimeter of your property, where it could be more vulnerable to attack.

Don’t Forget the Dog in the Dr. Brogan Corkie Matchmaking Doctor Series

    Genre Medical Romantic Comedy

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG

Dr. Brogan Corkie is happily semi-retired from medicine and now has time for other hobbies. Her passion for food is second only to her skill at matchmaking!

Blaine McKinnon, owner and executive chef of an upscale restaurant in Mapleton, has an adorable Old English sheepdog named Tacos. Brogan is roped into dog-sitting Tacos at Blaine’s house. The upside is the spectacular kitchen at her disposal.

Dr. Sabrina Langfield, a newly minted doctor, is in a bind when her mom, Rue, falls and fractures her wrist. Brogan offers to help and does double-duty looking after Tacos and Rue.

Blaine and Sabrina were high school sweethearts but parted ways when Blaine pushed Sabrina to pursue a career. Sabrina hasn’t seen him since, but Rue is a huge fan and frequents his restaurant. Rue’s biggest regret is her part in Sabrina and Blaine’s break-up, and with Brogan’s help, she’s determined to get them back together. It might not be that easy – Sabrina is wary of Tacos and, more pressing, she’s decided to move a four-hour flight away to do five more years of training in emergency medicine.

Will meddlesome matchmaking, Blaine’s persuasiveness, and – don’t forget the dog – Tacos’ sweet nature be enough to convince Sabrina to stay?

Which book is this in the series?

Don’t Forget the Dog is the second book of the Dr. Brogan Corkie Matchmaking Doctor series.

How many books do you plan for the series?

    4

    How many books are completed?

3 – The third book will be released August 4, 2020. I’m currently writing the fourth with a planned release date of November 4, 2020.

What characters are the main stars in your series?

Dr. Brogan Corkie is a semi-retired doctor. Her new hobbies include cooking and matchmaking! She stirs up romance and bakes up a plot to keep the couples together. Each story stands alone and overarching throughout the four books, Brogan’s heart is tangled up in romance, too.

What is the overall theme in this series?

These stories are fun and light-hearted second chance romances with happy-ever-after endings. They are set in small town Mapleton and the heroine or hero (or both) is a doctor. Sometimes all you need is a nudge in the right direction!

    Don’t Drop the Baby

    Don’t Forget the Dog

    Don’t Unravel the Past

Don’t have a title for the 4th one yet :D

What did you like best about writing this series?

Throwing two people together who are reluctant to love and nudging their heads to catch up to their hearts is always fun. Throw in witty dialogue, a baby, a dog, a secret past, and Christmas shenanigans, and I was laughing as I wrote them.

Meet Tacos from Don’t Forget the Dog

    Full name: Tacos
    Gender: male
    Species: Old English sheepdog
    Physical description: white fluffy fur
Relationship to main character: Blaine’s dog
Where this furbaby came from: Tacos was rescued by Blaine when Blaine was in high school. He’s been loved wholeheartedly since then and was named after Blaine’s favorite food.

What inspired you to create this character?

The premise of the Dr. Brogan Corkie Matchmaking Doctor series is that Brogan, doctor-turned-chef, cooks up romance and fun when two people are thrown together after she’s offered to help them out. When I plotted Don’t Forget the Dog, I thought it would be fun to have Brogan look after a pet instead of a human. The pet’s pa, Blaine McKinnon, became the sexy, talented hero of the romance. I needed a reason for Brogan to get involved, so I came up with the idea of Blaine having a high-maintenance dog – one that didn’t like to be left alone. Old English sheepdogs have long fur that sheds a lot, and they need to be brushed every day. They also tend to drool – which I thought was the perfect excuse for Brogan to look after Tacos at his own home instead of taking him into hers. Plus I think their fluffy fur makes them look adorable!

What does the hero think about this furbaby?

Blaine loves Tacos – he rescued Tacos as a puppy, and they’ve been together since Blaine was in high school. When Blaine designed his house, he included a special heated anteroom with a doggy door and area to shower and groom Tacos. Tacos has is own spa!

What does the heroine think about this furbaby?

Tacos is trying to worm his way into Sabrina’s heart, but it’s tough going. Big, hairy, slobbery dogs aren’t really her thing.

How do other characters react to or interact with this furbaby?

Sabrina’s mom, Rue, loves Tacos – and has since Blaine first rescued him back in high school when Blaine used to hang out with Sabrina’s brothers. Of all the children, Tacos is Rue’s favorite. Dr. Brogan Corkie wasn’t a dog-person, but she’s charmed by Tacos sweet, playful nature. He’s the perfect gentleman, just like his pa (unless you ask Sabrina – she’ll tell you both of them have a ways to go there – especially the pa).

Describe a humorous incident involving the animal character.

Blaine knew he was going to be busy at his restaurant during the hectic week around Valentine’s Day and had made arrangements weeks in advance to have someone look after Tacos. That person backs out at the last moment and Brogan is caught in the cross-hairs (or shaggy fur so to speak) and ends up “volunteering” to help out. It’s one of my favourite scenes in the book. The upside is that she’s babysitting Tacos at Blaine’s house and, as a chef, he has an awesome kitchen she can use!

Shout out to Rob’s Rescues – founded by a 9-year-old animal activist

Rob’s Rescues is a non-profit organization in Georgia helping people in need care for and feed their pets. It was founded in 2014 by a then nine-year-old boy. Rob’s Rescues is dedicated to collecting pet food for people in need to reduce shelter surrenders, and to advocating for the adoption of shelter pets. Rob writes monthly articles advocating for shelter animals in the Around About Local Media magazine publications. His column was first published in 2014. He also has pet food collection sites for people in need in the community and interviews amazing people. His interviews appear online once they are published in his column.
Rob volunteers for Pet Buddies Food Pantry, the Cherokee County Animal Shelter and Cobb County Animal Control and collects pet food for these organizations and the communities they serve. He also wants to bring attention to smaller, rural shelters. Mostly he wants to get kids to be Rob’s Rangers to teach kids that they can help shelter animals. Rob has also talked to kids in a classroom setting.
Rob’s Rescues is a Non-Profit Corporation and all donations are tax deductible.
