Character Interview: Matty Marcus from Training Season @LetaBlake #RLFblog #LGBT

    Training Season
    Title: Training Season
    Genre: Erotic M/M Romance
    Author: Leta Blake
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
Figure skater Matty Marcus is willing to sacrifice everything
for his Olympic dream. Despite his unquestionable talent, Matty’s lack of discipline
cost him Olympic gold once before. Now the pressure’s on to do whatever it takes
to make the team again. Still recovering from an injury that nearly ended his career,
he needs a coach who can keep him in line, but top coaches don’t come cheap. Without
the backing of his federation, Matty can’t afford to stay in the game no matter
how badly he wants to win.
When a wealthy fan’s whim brings him to rural Montana for a lucrative house-sitting
gig over the winter, Matty does his best to maintain an elite-level training regimen.
Despite fears that his flamboyant style might not be well-received in these rugged
surroundings, the residents turn out to be surprisingly tolerant and welcoming.
Even more surprising, Rob Lovely, the handsome young rancher next door, proves to
be much more than a cowboy stereotype. Just as Matty requires a firm hand to perform
his best on the ice, Rob shows him how strong he can be when he relinquishes control
in the bedroom. Taking his new-found courage back into the rink, Matty drives himself
harder to find the inner fire he needs to go for gold.
But a powerful new love and the best sex Matty has ever had aren’t
going to win him a medal. Competition has a timetable, and to achieve his Olympic
dream, he’ll have to join his new coach in New York City,
leaving Rob and his life in Montana
behind. As he faces the ultimate test of his spirit, has Matty truly learned how
to win—on and off the ice—during his training season?

    Interview with Matty Marcus

    Tell us about yourself,
    please.
I’m the most fabulous figure skater on the ice today and I’m
determined to prove to everyone, but especially myself, that I have what it takes
    to get Olympic gold.
What is it that you want,
but cannot have? Authors call this the conflict of the story.
I want to be an Olympic champion at any cost. I owe it to myself
and to everyone who has supported me over the years. I want it more than I want
almost anything…maybe more than I want love.
    What’s your internal limitation?
Meaning, what is it about you that makes it so you cannot do what it is you need
    to do during this story?
I’m flamboyant and uncompromising in who I am. I’m a control
freak and I can’t accept that there are some things in life that I just can’t control,
even though that’s what I most need to find a way to embrace.
    What inner doubt causes
    you the most difficulty?
What if I can’t do it? What if I make the wrong choice?
    What’s your external complication?
In the story world your author created, explain what it is you fear most.
What if the judges who control whether or not I can achieve my
goal will never give it to me, no matter what I do? What if I choose one thing and
    lose another?
    Tell us about your significant
other, that person who makes living worthwhile.
Rob is lovely, warm, giving, loving…and knows how to take control
in bed. He accepts me just the way I am and I need someone like that in my life,
because I can’t seem to accept myself that way at all.
    What would that person
    say about you?
He’d say I’m a pain in his ass, I’m sure, but then he’d say that
I’m amazing and he’d smile bright as sunshine.
    What is your family like?
They’re pretty great, though sometimes I wonder why they let
me be so driven at such a young age. Sometimes I wonder why they allowed me to go
this far down the Olympic path knowing what it cost me.
    What special skills do
    you rely on?
Being fabulous, of course! And a great media smile.
    If someone from your past
showed up, who would you NOT want it to be, and why?
The hockey players who used to bully me in the locker room at
the rink. I’d rather not see those assholes ever again.
    Are you happy with the
way your story ended? Why or why not?
I’m happy, yes, because I’ve figured out what’s most important
in life and, believe it or not, it’s not a gold medal.

    About the Writer

    Why did you choose to
    write about this character?
Matty obsessed me from the beginning. He was mouthy and bratty
and so lovable that I have had a hard time letting him go.
What do you want to write
    next?
I’m wrapping up a four book series, a gay coming of age romance
that is set in the South. I will publish all four of them within the next year and
a half. I’m excited to finally bring those characters to the world because I’ve
been working on these books off and on for about ten years. I can’t wait for everyone
to meet Adam, Peter, Daniel, Minty, and Renee.
    What other character from
this book do you want to write about? Care to tell us why?
Angus and Bill from Training Season have been screaming at me
to explore their relationship for awhile. I love their relationship and I hope to
    get around to exploring them.
    Are any sequels planned
    for this book?
Yes, the aforementioned Angus/Bill book, but also a future book
with Matty and Rob. I’d love to see where they go after the end of Training Season.

    Author Bio

While Leta Blake would love to tell you that writing transports
her to worlds of magic and wonder and then safely returns her to a home of sparkling
cleanliness and carefully folded laundry, the reality is a bit different. For as
long as Leta can recall, stories have hijacked her mind, abducting her to other
lands, and forcing her to bend to the will of imaginary people. This absence from
reality results in piles of laundry and forgotten appointments. In between abductions,
Leta works hard at achieving balance between her day job, her writing, and her family.
