Sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Coming out and coming of age in the days of AIDS, MTV, Reaganomics, and Just Say No.
Daron Marks is a young guitar player with a dream, make it big like the guys he grew up idolizing in New Jersey–or at least escape his dysfunctional family. He makes it as far as music school in Rhode Island, and the rock clubs of Boston beckon him. But it’s hard to succeed from the closet.
Ziggy Ferias is an art school dropout who dreams of fame. One day he sees a guitarist busking in the park, and his entire vision of his future changes.
A story of how finding one’s self is key to finding love, and loving one’s self is key to loving another.
Winner of the Rose and Bay Award for Crowdfunded Fiction!
“For me, Daron is one of those rare fictional characters that I have a hard time believing does not actually exist on the physical plane. He is just too real. Part of it is that Daron is only a couple of years older than me and the way the 80s are brought to life here reminds me very much of my own coming of age: the musical references, the language, the AIDS scare, the technology, the hair… Most of all, though, it is the fact that Daron is an extremely well written character. He grows and changes and engages.”

A scarred widow heads to picturesque Lake George, NY to heal. What she finds is the chance for the summer fling of her life—but is she ready?
Manhattan domestic violence counselor Zoe Anderson is going on the most important vacation of her life.
Before she can move on, help other women, Zoe needs to heal herself. Her Cinderella life shattered three years ago one fateful night, leaving her a young widow, scarred inside and out. In an attempt to reclaim her life, bury her demons, and save her job, Zoe sets out for picturesque Lake George to claim the treasured family cottage she recently inherited. The place where she found happiness—before. Reboot, restore to an earlier time.
What she finds is a rundown shack.
The neighboring resort mogul, Jason Rolland, whisks in to her rescue, insisting Zoe stay at his upscale Lakeview Lodge. The wealthy, handsome star of his own radio show, Jason’s Lair, is a terminal bachelor. But Jason figures he might use the gifts God gave him to convince the sexy redheaded stranger to give up the crumbling eye-sore next door. A challenge he’s definitely up for. He’s been trying to buy the cabin—and demolish it—for years: the last reminder of his own tragic, childhood memories.
Zoe can’t deny her attraction to the tall, dark-haired Jason with his pool-water blue eyes. Definitely fling material—if she can just get past those flashbacks from the night everything changed. And the knowledge that when it comes to happy-ever-after, you usually don’t get a second chance. Hardly possible with the Tiger of Jason’s Lair.
What Jason doesn’t figure on is Zoe’s charms melting his emotional armor. But with his reputation, can he ever win her heart? Can a tiger really change his stripes? Or will their pasts come back to bite them both?

Character Sketch: Sir Darius Lee | Leap Into The Knight @mjschiller #RLFblog #SFR

    Leap Into the Knight
    by MJ Schiller
M.J. Schiller shares details about the creation of Sir Darius
Lee in the book Leap Into The Knight.
    Title Leap Into The Knight
    Genre sci-fi romance
    Author M.J. Schiller
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG13
Sir Darius Lee is a Knight of the High Order.
But when Darius discovers a stranger in his room in the middle
of the night, and the intruder turns out to be a beautiful woman, he begins to question
how he is meant to live his life.
Princess Megan of Bethyea is being held captive.
But when two knights help her to escape and bring her back to
her home planet, she finds the home she knew no longer exists.
When The Council of Twelve questions Darius about his relationship
with Maggie, she tries to flee from The Academy of the High Order to prevent him
    from losing his knighthood.
Will Darius and Orion find Maggie before she leaves Albion? And
if they do, how can they face the decision of The Council? And what about the feelings
Orion has developed for the princess?

    Introducing Sir Darius Lee

    Name: Sir Darius Lee
    Age: 26
    Gender: M
    Birthplace: Albion
Profession: Knight of the High Order
    Ethnicity/Species (if not human): human
Describe his/her body build, skin tone, height and weight. Include
any unique features such as dimples, freckles, or scars: Six-foot-four, lean, muscular,
fair skinned, long, brown hair that he often pulls back and secures with a strip
of leather. Strong features, cheek bones, jaw, nose.
Who is the significant other in your character’s life?
    Princess Megan of Bethyea
    How does your hero dress?
Simply. Browns that are able to act as camouflage if necessary.
A loose fitting shirt for mobility and sturdy travel cloak that can also serve as
    a blanket or pillow.
    If you could only hear
this character’s voice (but not see him) what characteristic would identify him?
He has a deep, soothing voice. Confident and calm.
    Is the character book-smart,
    self-taught, widely-experienced?
All of the above. He studied at the Academy, but has learned
much through his travels throughout the galaxy.
Does he scrape by, live comfortably, live extravagantly?
Knights are taught to live simply, but he is also comfortable
in extravagant surroundings, often having to deal with diplomats and high-ranking
    officials.
    What is your character’s
    viewpoint on wealth?
    It is of little consequence.
    On what special skills
    does your character rely?
His wit. His fighting skills. His steady moral compass.
What is your character’s family like?
He remembers very little about his family as he was dropped off
at the Academy at a very young age.
    How do others perceive
your character based upon looks, and is this assumption accurate?
Because he is extremely tall, he might be seen as imposing. But,
while he can be a fierce fighter, he is really a kind and gentle man who is fair
    and understanding.
    Does your character care
about what others assume about him?
To a degree. He would not want people to be intimidated by him…unless
    the situation warranted it.
Can your hero keep a secret
    (why or why not)?
As a Knight of the High Order he often has to keep information
secret due to the nature of his missions. Besides, he would feel no need to gossip.
He is mostly a quiet man.
    What inner doubt causes
    your character the most difficulty?
He really has no inner doubts until he meets Maggie. His feelings
for her confuse him at the beginning, but once he has come to terms with them, he
is as resolute in his love for her as he has been about anything in his life.
When (if) he lies or is
    upset, what gives him away?
It is very easy to tell when he is upset because that inner calm
that usually exudes from him is missing.

    About Your Writer

To honor the person who chose to share your story, please answer the following
    questions.

    Why do you think your
writer chose to write about you?
She has a fascination for space travel and the concept of being
    a knight.
    What do you wish your
writer had not told others about you?
I really have nothing that I an unwilling to share about myself.
    What other character from
your book do you think your writer should write a book about, and why?
I think Amar would be a fascinating topic because he likes to
live in the grey areas of life, skimming just along the borderline of what is legal
    and what is not.
    Why do you think your
    writer loves to write?
Hmm…I’m guessing that writing could be a soothing activity. I
seldom have time for it myself.
    Is there anything you’d
like to say to your writer?
I’d like to hear more stories about knights and how they handle
the unusual circumstances that come their way.

5 Easy Questions MJ Schiller author of Leap into the Knight @mjschiller #RLFblog #ScifiRom

    Leap into the Knight
5 Easy Questions is an interview is designed to be quick, easy,
and fun. Today’s guest is MJ Schiller.
What is your go-to meal to order when you dine out? Your favorite
“I know it will hit the spot” item.
    Ha! Love this! My kids
always make fun of me because I will always order chicken quesadillas if they are
    on the menu.
What were you like when you were in school?
    Yikes! I was the nerdy
bookworm up until high school. Then I became a “popular” girl because
hung out with some people high in social status. Someone once told me they expected
me to be a snob and were surprised I was nice. They based this assumption on a particular
jacket I wore with what they believed to be a designer name on the lining. I then
informed them that I bought that jacket saving money I earned mowing lawns and vacuuming
houses and it wasn’t a major designer name, just a Target brand name. It
was one sweet jacket though. Corduroy, with patches on the elbows…
Would you rather stay inside and watch snow falling, or get
out in it and build a snowman?
    Ooh! Stay inside! Stay
inside and make everyone else hot chocolate. I do occasionally like playing in the
snow, but it’s like an every five year kind of thing. ;)
    What is your favorite quote?
    Winston Churchill~ “Never,
never, never give up.” Or “You are unrepeatable. There is a magic about
you that is all your own…” –D.M. Dellinger
    Or “All right, they’re
on our left, they’re on our right, they’re in front of us, they’re behind us…they
can’t get away this time.” –Louis B. “Chesty” Puller, Lt. Gen., USMC
    Just one more, I swear:
“The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone
said to themselves, ‘You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but
I’m just not close enough to get the job done.'” I’m a bit twisted.
If the hero of your latest book called you on the phone, what
would be a perfect ringtone for him?
    “Oh, What A Night”
by The Four Seasons because he’s a Knight of the High Order!
