Is It True: Escaping Valentine's Day by Christi Barth @christi_barth #RLFblog #Contemporary #Romance #SecondChanceTwo exes are thrown back together on a trip to Italy in Christi Barth’s newest contemporary rom-com, Escaping Valentine’s Day. They have a chance of working things out…until an Italian prince complicates everything!

Welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Let’s play Is It True with today’s guest, Christi Barth. This is a game with yes and no questions. Writers can elaborate on answers as much as they choose.

Escaping Valentine’s Day by Christi Barth

    Genre Contemporary romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): G

An Italian romance is on the menu, but is she ready to order?

Content creator Rory Hibbert knows Valentine’s Day is only fun for couples and chocolatiers. For singles like her, it’s a day of disappointment. And that’s why her new marketing agency client has arranged a tour of Italy crammed full of activities to distract from the holiday. This trip is a test for Rory—if it goes well, it will jump-start her new social media career.

There’s just one snag: the ex she never got over is also on staff.

Huck Cranshaw walked away from the love of his life for a huge opportunity on a cooking competition show. At least, that’s the excuse he gave Rory at the time—and he’s regretted it for five years. Cooking for tourists was supposed to be a stopgap between restaurant positions. Now it could be much, much more: a chance to fix the past.

But when an Italian prince catches sight of Rory, Huck’s not the only one vying for her heart this time. Can Cupid still steal Rory’s heart when the truth finally comes out?

    Is it true:

    this is your first book?

No. This is my 39th book.

this book is part of a series?

Yes. Loosely – Holiday Hearts. The heroine’s best friend in this book was the lead in The Magic Of Christmas.

you lost sleep while writing this book?

Oh no. Definitely not. Sleep is integral to being a good writer. It is imperative to have healthy sleep habits!

you did research for this book?

Yes! Far more than usual, so I could give my readers a virtual trip to Italy. The TramJazz tour in the book is real, and the chocolate factory, perfume store, and the church with St. Valentine’s heart, and the Mouth of Truth from Roman Holiday….It truly is an Italian travelogue (with banter and flirting and romance!).

some characters in this book are not human? (pets for example)

No. You’d have to go to my paranormal rom-com Imperfect Angel to find that (and please do!).

this book has more than one genre?

Yes-ish? It is contemporary romance, but you could also call it a rom-com.

you speak more than one language?

Not anymore. I used to be fluent in German. Guten Tag!

you grew up where you live now?

No. Grew up in Los Angeles, got out the minute I had my high school diploma, and took a long, winding path to Baltimore.

    you love to read?

Yes. More than I could ever verbalize. It is as necessary to me as eating and drinking.

    you are never late?

Correct. It is rude, and I won’t do it.

    you love pizza?

Yes. Sooooo much. We make it at home all the time – fun combos like ham, apple & brie or chicken sausage and caramelized red onions.

    you love sushi?

Yes. Sooooo much, lol. I was 16 when I first had it – on a first date, so that experience could’ve gone really badly, but we both loved it – and now I crave it constantly. Hubby and I gorge on it every New Year’s Eve.

    you have a pet?

    No.

Is It True: The Life and Times of Sherlock Holmes, Volume 4 by Liese Sherwood-Fabre @lsfabre #RLFblog #Nonfiction #SherlockBecome as smart as Sherlock Holmes with Liese Sherwood-Fabre’s essay collection in The Life and Times of Sherlock Holmes.

Welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Let’s play Is It True with today’s guest, Liese Sherwood-Fabre. This is a game with yes and no questions. Writers can elaborate on answers as much as they choose.

The Life and Times of Sherlock Holmes, Volume 4 by Liese Sherwood-Fabre

    Genre Nonfiction
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): G

Be as smart as Sherlock Holmes!

Arthur Conan Doyle’s original tales include many references to everyday Victorian life that are no longer part of current readers’ world. What Holmes would have eaten from a can while searching for the hound of the Baskervilles, Watson’s enjoyment of a yellow-back novel, or the proper use of a gasogene would have been common knowledge to the Victorian contemporary but compels modern readers to run to the nearest reference book. These twenty-five short essays pull such items from the past and expand on their significance in the story. As an additional bonus, this book contains an essay on the role of scandal in Holmes’ cases, originally appearing in a collected volume of essays on feminism and agency. After enjoying these concise treatises on Holmes’ world, readers will have a deeper understanding and appreciation of both the times and the life of the world’s greatest consulting detective.

    Is it true:

    this is your first book?

No. I have a series about Sherlock Holmes and other fiction books.

this book is part of a series?

    Yes, This is volume 4

you lost sleep while writing this book?

Sometimes. These essays were originally written for Sherlockian newsletters and sometimes I was on my own self-imposed deadlines

you did research for this book?

Yes! You will find my references for each essay.

some characters in this book are not human? (pets for example)

No, but some of the subjects aren’t human—like gasogenes.

this book has more than one genre?

No. Definitely nonfiction, but it would be of interest to those who enjoy Sherlock Holmes, history and trivia.

you speak more than one language?

Yes. I am fluent in Spanish and have studied French and Russia (but not fluent by any means)

you grew up where you live now?

Yes. Kinda strange. I left my hometown when I was 18, but returned in my 40s after spending 10 years abroad

    you love to read?

Yes! I’m really into audiobooks these days.

    you are never late?

No. I’m constantly a day late and a dollar short. A habit I’m trying to work on it.

    you love pizza?

Yes! When you are constantly on a diet, it’s a guilty pleasure. (I know, you can eat less to keep in your diet, but not me!)

    you love sushi?

Yes! Within certain limits. Although I have to say I once had the chance to have sushi at the fish market in Tokyo (can’t get it any fresher unless you were on the boat), and really loved that!

    you have a pet?

Yes. I have an attack cat. We’ve spayed him, but he still likes to suddenly leap at your calf or ankle, and doesn’t like being petted.

this book is part of a series?

Yes, Book Two – My Pirate’s Embrace will be out in January,

you lost sleep while writing this book?

Lots and lots of sleep, mostly because I was so wrapped up in story I didn’t notice I was writing through the night. I wrote this book when I was 17. I am now 61 and just publishing it.

you did research for this book?

In later years I did research. Once there were computers! Yes, I wrote this originally with pencil and paper, and the first draft was over 1000 pages.

I am always late. Always have been. Always will be, Read into it what you will.

    you love pizza?

I actually just finished a slice! My husband, son, and father went on a deep sea fishing trip today so my Mom, who still lives down the road in the family house, came to spend the day and we had pizza and salad.

One of my daughter’s favorite foods is sushi. She and my husband are vegetarians. I like avocado sushi when they are eating sushi. But I don’t think I would go out on my own and order it.

What Francie Karr eats for dinner, from I Sorta Do by Cheryl St John @_cherylstjohn_ #RLFblog #SweetRomance #RomanticComedyIn Cheryl St John’s new sweet romantic comedy, I Sorta Do, an impulsive freelance photographer blackmails a buttoned-up father of two into spending a week as her make-believe husband in order to impress her old high school classmates. Sparks fly—and ignite.

Cheryl, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your book.

I Sorta Do by Cheryl St John

    Genre: sweet romantic comedy

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG-13

Husband needed: One week commitment. Children optional.

I, Francie Karr, take you, Ryan MacNair, in bogus matrimony to convince my grandma and high school reunion class that I’m blissfully married—you provide the kids. A week should do it. You pledge to be so irresistible that you charm the Spanx right off those stuck-up gossips. Your touches should make their eyes pop, and your kisses be so intoxicating that we don’t have to fake that part.

Oh, and we promise not to let this family—or this electricity between us—feel real.

    Is it true:

    this is your first book?

No. I’ve written nearly sixty books in both historical and contemporary genres.

this book is part of a series?

Yes. I Sorta Do is Book #20 in the multi-author Aspen Gold Series. Each book can be read stand alone or readers can enjoy them in order. The authors’ various styles and voices add to the intriguing character of the series.

you lost sleep while writing this book?

No. This story was a lot of fun to write. It was published previously in 1999 as a Harlequin Duet. I had rights reverted and recently updated the manuscript and changed the setting and names to bring the story into Spencer, Colorado for the Aspen Gold Series. There weren’t even cell phones in the original story!

you did research for this book?

Yes. I always research jobs for my characters. Francie is a freelance photographer and Ryan works for a museum in Chicago. I actually did a lot of research for the costumes the family wears to the high school reunion dance.

some characters in this book are not human? (pets for example)

Yes. Francie has a cat that she leaves with a sitter for the trip to her home town.

this book has more than one genre?

No. It’s romantic comedy. To me, that’s one genre.

you speak more than one language?

No. Not unless you count baby talk and fluent pig-latin.

you grew up where you live now?

Yes. I wasn’t born in Nebraska, but I was born across the state border and have lived here my whole life. I’ve seen a lot of changes in my city over the years!

    you love to read?

Yes. Absolutely. I fell in love with books at a young age. As a kid it was a pleasure to check out books from the school library. I was lost over the summer when school was out. I made it a point as a parent and grandparent to take all my kids to the public library, get them library cards and enroll them in summer reading programs. Oh, the places they can go!

    you are never late?

Yes. I’m way better than I used to be though. But I’m kind of right on the nose — my hubby likes to be early.

    you love pizza?

No. I’m not a pizza fan, but every once in a while, I like a Pizza Hut original pan crust pizza.

    you love sushi?

No. Whoever thought raw fish was a good idea is troubled.

    you have a pet?

No. Over the years we’ve had cats, dogs, rabbits, gerbils, hamsters, birds, fish and turtles. As empty nesters, we like to pick up and go—and we both appreciate not taking a dog out in the rain or snow at night.

Is It True: Alpha Mine by Brenda Sparks @brenda_sparks #RLFblog #ParanormalRomanceHe stood stone still, wrapped in the darkness of the shadows… Alpha Mine, by Brenda Sparks, a PNR novel in the Alpha Council Chronicles.

Welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Let’s play Is It True with today’s guest, Brenda Sparks. This is a game with yes and no questions. Writers can elaborate on answers as much as they choose.

    Alpha Mine by Brenda Sparks

    Genre Paranormal Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

In the shadows of the night, there exists a band of warriors–a group of vampires, known as the Alpha Council. Their formidable leader, Stephan von Haas, has vowed to protect not only his kind but the humans existing alongside them. His duty comes before all else–until a sassy blonde saunters into his life.

When a sensual, dark-haired stranger walks into Katrina Spencer’s life, he stirs her deepest desires and sweeps her into a world beyond her wildest dreams. But when Katrina is targeted by Stephan’s enemies, reality shifts into something violent and deadly, as she is thrust into a realm where vampires stalk the shadows and vengeance is coming for her.

Together they will confront an extraordinary destiny of peril, passion, and dark pleasures. But when one horrid mistake brings retribution, their love may pay the price.

    Is it true:

    this is your first book?

Yes. This is the first book I published. It holds a dear place in my heart because I’ll never forget the feeling I had when my publisher offered me a contract for the story. The old saying is true…you never forget your first. 😉

this book is part of a series?

It is. Alpha Mine the first book in my Alpha Council Chronicles series.

you lost sleep while writing this book?

Sleep? What is this thing called sleep? The heroes of this story invaded my dreams, especially Stephan. I’d wake in the middle of the night and have to get out of bed to write down a scene.

you did research for this book?

The research needed for this book was a lot of fun, because it is set in Las Vegas. I love it when I can set a story in a place I have not been before. It gives me a great excuse to take a vacation to a fun new place. Of course, I can’t share anything else about the research for Alpha Mine, because, after all, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.

some characters in this book are not human? (pets for example)

There are vampires in this story, some are heroes, some are villains.

this book has more than one genre?

No. It is strictly a paranormal romance.

you speak more than one language?

I can understand a little Spanish, French, and sign language, but I speak English.

you grew up where you live now?

Unfortunately, no. I grew up in Virginia.

    you love to read?

Absolutely! There is never enough time in a week to read, but I do it every chance I get. I’m a big fan of paranormal and historical romances.

    you are never late?

I’m one of those people who feels like if I arrive 15 minutes ahead of schedule then I’m actually late. Being late is one of my biggest pet peeves.

    you love pizza?

Ummm…yes!! I’m a wanna be Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle.

    you love sushi?

It’s not my thing, but I love watching the sushi chefs make it.

    you have a pet?

I do not. We will be moving a great distance soon, so we have decided not to get another pet until after we move. I miss having a fur baby in the house but know that it would be difficult on one to make the move with us.

Determined to control her destiny, she does her best to escape, even as the attraction between her and Dmitri sizzles. Doesn't take long for her to realize this huge, sexy wolf is a protector at heart.

Tracking and killing are what he does best. Before this is over, he'll have blood on his hands, but winning her love will be the hardest battle.

    Is it true:

    this is your first book?

    No. I think I'm up to 115.

this book is part of a series?

Yes. It's book 5 of the Salvation Pack: The Next Generation series.

you lost sleep while writing this book?

    Nope.

you did research for this book?

I've been writing about the Salvation Pack for over a decade, so I've done the research for the area. The most difficult part is trying to keep the details consistent from the earlier books.

some characters in this book are not human? (pets for example)

    They're all werewolves.

this book has more than one genre?

    It's a contemporary paranormal romance.

you speak more than one language?

Unfortunately, I only speak one. I admire anyone who can speak more than one.

you grew up where you live now?

I grew up about a four-hour drive from where I live now, so not too far away.

    you love to read?

    I can't go a day without reading!

    you are never late?

On time is late. I'm always early. It makes it easier for me to relax.

    you love pizza?

Absolutely. And pineapple DOES belong on pizza. LOL

    you love sushi?

I've never had it. It just doesn't look appealing to me.

    you have a pet?

I don't have one. I had a dog growing up, but I live in an apartment that doesn't allow them. I get my pet fix because both my siblings have them—cats and a dog.
