Be #Canceraware #Cancer doesn’t discriminate – with Iris Blobel @_iris_b #RLFblog
Here’s a personal post from my friend, romance author Iris Blobel.
Thanks to Kayelle for the opportunity to write this special post outside the October Awareness month, but I suppose it’s something we should all think of occasionally during the whole year.
I was diagnosed with Breast cancer late 2016. I found a lump and had a mammogram that came up with nothing, ditto with the ultrasound and in the end it was a biopsy, which confirmed the uncomfortable truth. Just before Christmas! And an 8-month-journey of highs and lows began.
Cancer was always something “others had” – family, friends, colleagues, neighbours … the list is long, but I never thought that my otherwise sickly body would throw that illness at me as well. I was upset and angry, at the same time I had, and still have heaps to live for: my little family.
In hindsight, what is manifested in my mind about that time is a terrible three days after the first chemo treatment and the poor nurses trying to find a vein for each treatment. My arm was bruised and battered. However, what I remember most is the outpouring of love, help, and kindness. The old saying “you find out who your friends are when you need them” is completely true. I’ve been lucky, not in being diagnosed with it, but having to only “fight” for eight months. Of course, it’s a constant part of my life now, but I do my best to ignore it. It was eight month out of a whole lifetime – a whole wonderful lifetime which I can spend with my family, friends – near and far -, colleagues … when we put our mind to something, we can do anything!
But please … be cancer aware. Do self-checks and if you feel uncertain, go and see your GP.
The final chapter, in a way, of this journey was my travel to New Zealand in September – to close the door on everything. To move on. To rejuvenate. To have fun. It’s a beautiful country, which I love it … so much that I wrote a book, partly set in the south island. I wish for readers to be able to escape to NZ for a little while and know there’s beauty in the world and so much to live for.Today’s featured book is Their Bond Through Jade, a contemporary romance by Iris Blobel.
Pikorua, the Maori name for the symbol, is a twist that is said to symbolise the strength of the bond between two people. Mat is certain there is something between Tiffany and him.
When Tiffany Cahill opens the door to the police, memories flood her mind of the previous year and a relationship gone bad. Frightened, she calls her friend, Steve, for help, but instead a stranger answers the phone. Little does Tiffany know how much this New Zealander is going to impact her life, especially after she is assaulted only a few hours later.
Mat Apanui, the owner of a helicopter tour company in New Zealand, can’t ignore the worry in Tiffany’s voice when he answers Steve’s phone. Before he knows it, he is spending most of his business trip to Melbourne with her. Desperate to keep her safe after an attack, he invites her to stay with him in Queenstown, NZ.
With her safety at risk, how will Tiffany overcome her reservations and trust the sexy stranger enough to fly across the Tasman Sea?

#Route66 Fresh Beginnings by Iris Blobel @_iris_b #RLFblog #Romance
Welcome Iris Blobel author of Fresh Beginnings, a new Contemporary Romance.
Why did you write this book?
I love this book. We went to the USA a few years back, travelling in a motorhome through 5 different states, having the time of our lives. After returning home, looking through hundreds of photos, I came up with the idea to turn our itinerary into a story. Fresh Beginnings was born. I hope the readers will enjoy this little journey and hopefully my love for the places we went to, is shining through.
What is your favorite genre to read?
I read most genres as long it’s an interesting read – from crime, mystery, to romance, and I’ve just downloaded a historical romance. Something new for me.
Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?
Jack Reacher – hands down.
What are you working on at the moment?
I’ve started a trilogy in “Beauty Bay”, another coastal setting. I love the beach and when we travelled along the NSW coast last year I loved the area so much, I needed to have it in one of my books – Molly and Noah, a pilot from Alaska J
What books will we see from you in coming months?
“Echoes of the Past” will be re-released later this year or early next year. But there’ll also be a book set partly in New Zealand – another travel inspired story. I’m really looking forward to releasing this book. The main character has a Maori background

More Beginnings by Iris Blobel @_iris_ b #RLFblog #Romance
Welcome Iris Blobel author of More Beginnings, a new Contemporary Romance.
Why did you write this book?
More Beginnings is the second book in the Beginnings series. A few years ago, I travelled to Hobart in Tasmania and instantly fell in love with the city. Despite Hobart being a capital, it is small compared to other major cities in Australia, so I thought about characters moving from Sydney. It snow balled from there: the first book New Beginnings tells the story about Sophie and Mia Levesque’s move and their new start. I loved the characters, so Sophie’s neighbour, Zach, was given his own story as well.
What is your favorite genre to read?
I like a good mystery or crime story. After all these years, I still love the Jack Reacher stories by Lee Child.
Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?
I’d say Jack Reacher. But there’s also Jax and Sawyer from Jill Shalvis’ Lucky Harbor series. And I looooove Ivan from “If You Could See Me Now” by Cecelia Ahern
What are you working on at the moment?
I’m currently polishing the last Beginnings book “Fresh Beginnings” for re-release. At the same time I’m adding the final touch of a book which is mainly set in New Zealand – something different for me, and I cannot wait for it to be released.
What books will we see from you in coming months?
I have to be really patient and take it one step after the other. As mentioned before, I’m hoping to re-release “Fresh Beginnings”, release my NZ story, and finish my “Fermosa Bay” trilogy. Exciting times ahead!
Please tell us about your latest book.

Life is good for teenager Mia Levesque. But when Darren Schuster shows up in Hobart, she knows something is up once Sophie and Mark cut their weekend away short and rush home in the middle of the night. When Sophie won’t answer Mia’s questions, emotions run high, and Zach confirms Darren’s identity to Mia. Disappointed, angry, and feeling alone, Mia runs away.
Will life settle back into a routine for Mia once she finds out about the stranger in her life?

Why did you write this book? The story is set in Hobart, the capital of Tasmania, the most southern state in Australia. A most beautiful place. I went there a few years back and imagined how it would be to live in this city, how to adapt as a “non-local”, and bit by bit I wrote the story of two sisters moving there. Obviously, I added a little romance into the story as well – so I added Mark and Zach. What is your favorite genre to read?Crime and romanceWho is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?Jack ReacherWhat are you working on at the moment, and will see from you in coming months?I’ve just finished a book which is set partly in Melbourne, partly in New Zealand. Settling into their new life, Sophie is still afraid it’s all a mistake.Mark O’Connor, attorney in Hobart and the bearer of the good news for Sophie and Mia, curses himself for the lack of information about the testator. However, researching the questions gives him an opportunity to see Sophie again, and the more time he spends with the two, the more he realises that his life is missing something. And it’s not his casual lover Linda. But then there’s Zach, Sophie’s sexy neighbour from across the road… and a very good friend of Clara’s.Will unravelling the mystery unravel Sophie and Mark’s promise of a future?About the Book
