Saying goodbye to the Romance Lives Forever blog #RLFblog

As of today, Dec 1, 2023, I am closing Romance Lives Forever. Why? I'm organized and efficient, but with as much as I want to do going forward, I can no longer maintain RLF. I used Triberr to amplify the blog on social media, especially Twitter. The new requirements and limits from Twitter cut exposure by a huge margin. Triberr brought 80%+ of all readers to the blog. Since it's no longer active, that cost another huge drop in traffic.

It costs a bit to run the blog, register its domain name, pay for the signup/reminder service, and it takes time to chase down people who send things last minute (or not at all). Plus I have to let authors know the service is available. Then I format the material, resize the images, upload everything, and schedule its promotion. Alas, time and money won out.

I started the blog in 2009, and went to daily posts in 2010. I've explored many ways to do all this and still find time to write and market for myself. I hired an assistant last year, but only I can write the stories in my heart. I am loath to give up, not being a quitter by nature.

    When it's Time to Quit

Last month, I heard Becca Syme (one of my mentors) say that it's time to quit when you no longer love what you do. Becca is brilliant. I took her Strengths for Writers and Write Better-Faster courses in the last 12 months. Each came with 6 months of follow up calls and targeted counseling. Changed my life in so many ways. Here's the video I'm referring to if you're curious. https://youtu.be/GRG5UeFYihE

Daily monitoring this blog is not what I love. What I love is supporting other authors, and the blog was how I did that. I will still support them but in ways that leave time for my own priorities. It took more than a year for me to decide to do this (or rather, stop doing this). I almost didn't commit to 2023, but felt guilty for quitting. It wasn't until I heard Becca's comment last month that I gave myself permission to do what I had to do. She wasn't talking about blogging, or anything even close to what I was doing. She was talking about writing in the golden age of publishing (the new era we've recently entered), and how to know what to do next (or stop doing).

The video was from Ream, which is a new subscription platform for authors. I've just launched mine. I attended an accelerator class with a handful of other authors in a small-group setting for mentorship. Wonderful support and I learned things I never expected.

Some of the Many Authors Who Made RLF a Success

Adriana Kraft, Alexa Aston, Alina K Field, Amber Daulton, Anne Kane, Brenda Sparks, Daryl Devore, Dee S Knight, Effrosyni Moschoudi, Faye Hall, Iris Blobel, J Arlene Culiner, Jami Gray, Jana Richards, Karen Cino, Kate Hill, Kris Bock, Linda O'Connor, Lisabet Sarai, Livia Quinn, NJ Walters, Seelie Kay, Tena Stetler, Tina Donahue, Veronica Scott, Vicki Batman

I'll miss the blog. It's been a part of my life during most of my career as an author. I look forward to what comes after this, and having the time and freedom to pursue the next steps.

Thank you for being part of my journey. If you'd like to support me and keep up with what I'm doing next, here's how:

Thank you and ‘Auf Wiedersehn’ to Kayelle’s RFL Blog from Iris Blobel @_iris_b #Books #RLFblog

Thank you and 'Auf Wiedersehn' to Kayelle's RFL Blog from Iris Blobel @_iris_b #Books #RLFblogI know today’s post is supposed to be a last chance to promote one of my books for the last time here on the RFL Blog before the blog retires next year.

But I’d like to take this opportunity to say thanks. Thanks to Kayelle, who deserves more than a thanks. My gratitude for all she’s done over the many years, and not just for the RFL blog, but for everything else she’s created, oversees, and keeps running. The many (many!) ways that she tries to help authors find their way in the business of publishing. And she doesn’t do it by just creating opportunities, no, she guides everyone along. She’s always reaching out to help and finding solutions. I had a quick look through the blog and counted six posts promoting my books. That’s amazing. And she did it without asking for anything in return.

Her support went beyond helping authors. October was always the #Canceraware month on the RFL Blog, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who appreciated the opportunity to talk about the illness and its struggles.

Kayelle, my sincerest thanks for everything you have done over the many years. I hope one day all your good deeds will come back multiplied in good luck. ♥

And while I am here, I might as well ‘show off’ one of my books. 😊

Fresh Beginnings is currently 99c (on Amazon only).

Why did I write this book?
I love this book. We went to the USA a few years ago, travelling in a motorhome through 5 different states and having the time of our lives. After returning home and looking through hundreds of photos, I came up with the idea to turn our itinerary into a story. Fresh Beginnings was born. I hope the readers will enjoy this little journey, and hopefully my love for the places that we went shines through.

Read Bigalow the new #ContemporaryRomance by Iris Blobel @_iris_b #RLFblog #PNRIn Iris Blobel’s new contemporary romance, which has a touch of paranormal added to it, the enigmatic Bigalow turns Hannah’s life upside-down. She is happy with her solitude, yet Bigalow gently reminds her what life is all about.

Iris, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about Bigalow.

    Bigalow by Iris Blobel

Genre Contemporary Romance with a touch of paranormal
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): 3

He came out of nowhere … encouraging her to ask the right questions.

Hannah believes her life in solitude is all she wants and all she needs. She’s settled in the small town of Fermosa Bay where she’s taken over a medical practice after leaving her husband. When the enigmatic Bigalow steps into her life, turning it upside-down, she can’t hide the growing irritation inside. Yet, slowly and steadily, he reminds her what life is all about and what she’s missing out on. Especially when she crosses paths with her neighbour, Gideon.

As she begins to ask the right questions, Hannah’s fondness for Bigalow gently grows, and so do her feelings for Gideon. But is she ready to hear the answers to her questions?

Why did you write this book?

My life has been a little chaotic (and sometimes scary) over the last few years. And with Covid across the world, I wanted to write a book to remind myself, and hopefully the readers as well, how precious life is and how much we should enjoy it. Each day.

What is your favorite genre to read?

I read across the board, but I prefer mysteries and crime.

Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?

    James Bond

What are you working on at the moment?

I have two books I’m working on at the moment. One is book two in the Fermosa Bay series, of which Bigalow is part of as well, and the other one is another book in the Alinta Bay series.

What books will we see from you in coming months?

I’m hoping to be able to finalise “Secrets of the Past” over the next few months.

    Entangled Moments by Iris Blobel

    Genre Sports Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): steamy’ish

Markus and Sarah’s lives couldn’t be more different…

After three years away as a goalkeeper for an English soccer club, Markus DeLeon is happy to be back in Melbourne, back with his family and friends, including Sarah. He has known her since childhood, and has often provided her with a safe place from the teasing of other children and the troubles of a broken home. Yet, events after attending their friends’ wedding set off a shift in their relationship and questions, which neither Markus nor Sarah know how to approach.

Sarah Winter caught her boyfriend cheating on her, and not for the first time Markus offers her a much-needed shoulder to cry on. This time, however, an attraction between them intensifies, ending in a passionate afternoon, and Markus doesn’t know how to handle this new side of their friendship and flees to the coast. Sarah, unsure as well about the recent events, is surprised by his sudden departure, but is soon sidetracked by misunderstandings and a family emergency.

Why did you write this book?

The book is part of a series I wrote about 10 years ago. I wanted to write about sport stars so I chose a popular Australian sport (Australian Football League AFL), a sport I really like (Baseball) and a sport I have some knowledge about (Soccer).

Entangled Moments is about soccer player Markus who’s returning to Australia after playing in the UK for a few years. Writing about his relationship with his best friend Sarah was interesting and challenging at the same time when both are attracted to each other but neither are game enough to risk their friendship.

What is your favorite genre to read?

I really like crime and mystery books.

Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?

    James Bond & Jack Reacher

What are you working on at the moment?

I’m writing a romance story with a different twist.

What books will we see from you in coming months?

I’m finalising another book set in New Zealand. Can’t wait for it to see the light of day soon.

What characters are the main stars in your series?

The Hendrix family is the centre of the first three books but they will pop up in all of the following stories as well.

Innocent Tears, Journey to Her Dreams, Echoes of the Past, Their Bond through Jade, New Beginnings, More Beginnings, Fresh Beginnings, Little Beginnings, Sweet Dreams Miss England
