Read the #ContemporaryRomance The Right Choice by Fiona McGier #RLFblogA bride feels disrespected on her wedding day, so she runs out of the church in the new contemporary romance, The Right Choice by Fiona McGier. Two men want to marry her–but which should she choose?

Fiona, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about The Right Choice.

The Right Choice by Fiona McGier

Genre Contemporary

Book heat level R

Veterinarian Pamela Wilson always used to run away from home to get attention from her status-conscious, preoccupied parents. Years ago she met a man who loved her unreservedly, but her parents didn’t approve of his blue-collar job, so she ran away from him too. When the ambitious lawyer she’s marrying answers a phone call while she’s walking down the aisle, it’s the last straw! She runs away again, this time to a cabin her parents don’t know about, owned by the mechanic. Does he still own it and is he still single? Will she finally stop running away and make the right choice for her future?

What’s in your character’s pockets, backpack, or purse?

What does your character always carry?

Pamela always carries her IDs and some money.

What does your character dislike carrying but has to?

Pamela isn’t fond of cell phones. She has to carry one for work, since she owns her own veterinary practice. But she has an answering service for emergency calls. She hates how dependent her fiance is on his phone. And to preclude anyone from using the phone’s GPS to track her, when she runs away, she leaves her phone on top of her wedding dress, in the limo, after she runs into her practice to change clothes.

Does your character carry money and if so, in what form (cash, credit, etc.)?

Pamela usually carries both–she likes to have some cash for small purchases. But this time, she has to withdraw a lot of money, because she’s “on the lam” and doesn’t want anyone to be able to locate her based on any credit records.

What does your character carry related to a job or calling?

She has business cards in her wallet, to pass out to prospective clients.

Does your character every carry things for other people? (like a mom with toys, etc.)

No, but this time she also brings along her tote bag with a change of clothing in it. She always has a couple of spare tee shirts, shorts, jeans, and underwear in her office at her practice, for when her patients might be “over-excited” while at the vet.

Questions for the Character to Answer About the Author

What does your author always carry?

She has a very small Vera Bradley purse that is actually little larger than a wallet, but it has a shoulder strap.

What does your author dislike carrying but has to?

Her cell phone. She doesn’t like them any more than I do. In fact, she still has a flip-phone, because texting and calling is all she ever does with it.

What does your author carry for luck?

She’s always got a few business cards with her author name, her blog link, and some other info about her books. Some of them have are pierced with a pin that says, “Reading is Sexy.” She loves to give those away!

How organized is your author’s backpack / purse?

Very! It’s so small it’s got very little room for much besides IDs, credit cards, some cash, the business cards, and a tiny tube of hand sani.

What does your author prefer to use when it comes to items like backpacks / purses?

She’s been into Vera Bradley stuff for years. One of her sons gives her a gift card every year for her birthday, so she can buy a new tiny purse. She’s also got bigger bags for various purposes, like duffel bags for camping, and one always packed with toiletries for when she travels.

Read the series: Prescription For Love, the 4th book in The Reyes Family Romances series by Fiona McGier #RLFblog #ContemporaryRomanceWearing heels while giving a lecture in a small town in Mexico results in a fall off the bus, leading to a broken wrist, for the heroine in Fiona McGier’s contemporary romance, Prescription For Love. When she meets the town’s only doctor, she’s annoyed that he wants her to stay in town for a while. But he has his own reasons for wanting her to stay.

Fiona, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your series.

Prescription For Love in The Reyes Family Romances series

Genre Contemporary Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings) R

Enrique, the oldest of the Reyes sons, was named after his father’s father, creating a special bond between them. While in medical school, Enrique accompanied abuelo back to his hometown in Mexico. Now Enrique is the doctor there, enjoying his practice and his adopted town. The only thing he is missing is a wife. Enrique wants an equal: a strong, independent woman whom he can woo into sharing her life with him. When Tanora Doyle, a bi-racial research biologist arrives in town, he is intrigued. But will the baggage she carries keep them apart? Or can Enrique cure whatever ails her, and solve his problem as well?

Which book is this in the series?

This book is number 4 in the series. I was hoping to get readers interested in the rest of the book when I published this one as a free read, 10 years ago. It’s published by Smashwords, but available on many other sites–just not on Amazon.

How many books do you plan for the series?

Right now there are 6 books, but I have a couple unfinished in my laptop, so who knows how many more will appear?

How many books are completed?

There are 6 books published–this one is a free download, but the rest are available only on Amazon (my publisher’s choice.)

What characters are the main stars in your series?

In the first two books, the focus was on the romances of 2 divorced female friends of Juanita and Edgar Reyes, one of whom marries his brother. In the third book, the 9 Reyes children are grown up, and their romances take center stage. Enrique is the oldest son. The oldest daughter Rosa, who was the teen-aged baby sitter in the first two books, is the focus of the 3rd book, and she makes an appearance in the 4th book. All of the Reyes family members and friends weave in and out of most of the books. Reading them becomes a chance to visit with old friends.

What is the overall theme in this series?

That a large, loving family is an excellent place to grow up. And that finding romance can be fraught with problems, but there is someone for everyone to love–when they’re ready. Some fall in love at a young age, while for some, it takes a lot longer.

Please list the series titles below, in any order you prefer.

1-Never Too Old For the Game of Love

2-Recipe For Love

3-Love By Design

4-Prescription For Love

5-Analysis of Love

6-Love Therapy

What did you like best about writing this series?

My mother’s parents both came here from Poland back at the last turn of the century. Mom was 8th of 10 kids. I loved visiting with her huge, loving family, and I had 22 cousins. I made the family in this series Hispanic because they are the newest group of immigrants who are integrating into U.S. culture. And most of the romances are inter-racial because that’s the way I want the world to be–when you can fall in love with the person, regardless of their color or their nationality. And your family will welcome your choice into the clan.

What other books (not in this series, have you written?)

The Minnesota Romances–4 books

Female Secret Agents–2 books

One vampire saga

Werewolf series–2 books

One stand-alone book was just published, and another is under contract.

Where can we find links for all your books?

On my website: www.fionamcgier.com, there are pages for each of my books, along with the universal links to find them all. This is my only series of books on the Kindle Unlimited program. But this particular book is a free download–just not on Amazon..

Read Undercover Lovers by Fiona McGier #RLFblog #Contemporary #RomanticSuspenseA former secret agent, now doing choreography for music videos, is forced to use her old skills again when an old nemesis escapes prison, in Fiona McGier’s Undercover Lovers, a contemporary suspenseful romance featuring not one, but two sexy agents assigned to be her bodyguards.

Fiona, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about Undercover Lovers.

Undercover Lovers by Fiona McGier

Genre Contemporary suspenseful romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): Very steamy R, includes menage scene

Ameena has never been able to forget what she endured on her last assignment before she left the agency.

The only female agent to live through what The Executioner did to his victims, she still bears the scars, both physical and psychological. When he escapes from his prison cell, her former handler brings two agents with him, telling her that one or the other will be her shadow, until her torturer is caught again.

Having kept herself too busy for romance, she is caught off-guard by the sudden insertion into her life of two hot, sexy men, one who actively pursues her, and one whom she finds more attractive for his shyness.

Doe she choose between them, or enjoy them both? Will she live long enough to make a choice? And once she does, is that the end of the story? When the man she chooses is captured while on his last assignment, she needs to recruit a team to rescue him.

But she needs one more team member–the man she rejected. There’s only one thing she can offer.

QUICK

Do you write more than one genre? If so, what are they?…

Yes. I always write contemporary stories, because the idea of sex without birth control is way too scary to contemplate. All of my stories include erotic scenes leading to romance, but some are paranormal, and some, like this book, have suspense due to the dangers inherent in being a secret agent.

How do you come up with ideas?…

Inspiration can come anytime, from things like a picture of someone I’d like to write about, or a person I see who looks intriguing, so I wonder what their life story is. Sometimes I get antire story arcs in dreams–those are the best dreams! And once I had a character actually speak to me directly in a dream, telling me how to end my writer’s block.

What is the single most important part of writing for you?…

I have to have a quiet environment, so I can “hear” the characters as they interact, or explain their actions to me. When my kids were younger and lived at home, they’d stay up so late making noise, that I did my writing between midnight and 2 or 3 AM. Now they’re all out of the house, so I don’t have to stay up that late anymore. I’ve never been an early riser–early mornings are not the best time of the day for me, so that was never an option.

When did you write your first book?…

I wrote my first book, Never Too Old for the Game of Love, in 2008, the year after my dad passed on. I was still grieving for him, but working 2 jobs, raising 4 kids, and then I had to take over Mom’s life, because she was diagnosed with dementia. It was a very stressful time for me, and I really needed happy endings in my life! So I wrote my first romance, and the other 5 books in the series just flew out of me. Once I held my first paperback, I felt like a real writer.

FUN

Leather or lace? Leather AND lace–the lace is under the leather, peeking out.

Black or red? Black, since my skin is Scottish skin, very pale ivory.

Satin sheets or smooth cotton? Satin for sexy times. Cotton for every day.

Ocean or mountains? Mountains with lakes.

City life or country life? I don’t like big crowded cities, so country life–but NO country music!

Party life or evening at home? Evening at home. More privacy for erotic moments.

Hotel, cabin, or camping? Camping–husband taught me to love it years ago. We just got a Scamp, the best camper ever!

Read Worth the Wait by Fiona McGier #RFLblog #ParanormalRomance #PNRFinding a mate can be difficult when you’re a werewolf, in Fiona McGier’s new paranormal romance Worth the Wait. Your inner wolf chooses for you. What happens when the human part of your mate isn’t ready? Or if the chosen mate doesn’t agree–or worse, doesn’t believe in werewolves?

Fiona, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your book.

Worth the Wait by Fiona McGier

Genre Paranormal Erotic Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): A steamy R-rated.

This sequel continues the two romances from the first book in the series, When a Wolf Howls, but adds two new ones also, making for a long saga of passion. Saoirse and Diego are married and she has good news for him. Her bestie, Freddie, is thrilled when John moves in with him, but they soon discover issues that need to be resolved. Grant is one of the hunters from Canada, whose wolf has told him that the black she-wolf they saw the last time they were at the academy, is their mate–but he has no idea what she looks like as a human–and he discovers she carries baggage that impedes their romance. Nathan yearns for a love that will last, but when his wolf mates with a female shifter’s wolf, she has no memory of it the next morning. All of these problems will be resolved, but it takes a long time–hence, the title, Worth the Wait.

What’s your favorite down-home family style meal?

My favorite down-home family-style meal is Golabki, or Polish-style cabbage rolls served with mashed potatoes. Dad was from Glasgow, but Mom’s parents were from Poland–and she’s the one who did the cooking. She had no recipe, so I had to watch her make Golabki a few times, writing down what she did. It’s my Busia’s (gramma’s) recipe, and I used to make a huge batch and serve it to my college friends. When my husband wanted me to meet his Polish parents, he told them I made better Golabki than his mother. No pressure, right? But when we had them to dinner, even his Polish mom agreed that mine were better! Wow!

What is your go-to meal when you dine out?

I should have a bumper sticker that says “I brake for Mexican restaurants.” That’s always my first choice. I love posole (a very hot pork soup, which is a lot of work to make at home), and I love chilli rellenos (even more work to make at home)–but there’s one place near me that has chilli relleno tacos to die for! For entrees I like flautas– either pork or beef rolled tightly into a corn tortilla, then deep-fried–as well as tamales. I also love red sangria. And chips and salsa, along with cheese sauce. And cheese quesedillas. Now I’m hungry!

Describe the perfect vacation.

My idea of a perfect vacation is my husband and I set out with our tiny Scamp camper attached to my truck, and I get to drive where-ever we’re going. I’m a crabby-ass passenger, so husband has learned over the years to bring a book to read, or to take naps while I drive. We love to explore lake areas so we can go swimming, and so he can go fishing, and I can sit somewhere and either write, read, or do crosswords. We both love to hike, especially if there’s a waterfall or something else scenic to see along the trail. And we love to relax around the campfire where we cook our meals, and gaze at the stars after dinner.

Tell us about your favorite toy as a child.

My favorite toy was my huge collection of Barbie dolls and their accoutrements. I had multiple houses, the theater, the car, a pool–in fact, everything to establish an apartment complex on a card table in my bedroom. I only had two male dolls–Ken and Alan, but they had good times with all of my Barbies! Since I loved secret agents TV shows and movies so much, my Barbies were always spies with exotic jobs and exciting adventures all over the world. I never wanted them to get married–they were too busy enjoying their independence–hmm, kind of like the heroines in my books! LOL.

What are your hobbies?

I’ve been a sewer since Mom showed me how to make Barbie clothes by hand, when I was too young to use the sewing machine. Now I have her old Singer machine–I’ve got a picture of myself as a two-year-old standing next to it. I’ve made everything on it from bathing suits, to Halloween costumes for all four of my kids. I also like to crochet when watching TV with my husband–or sitting around talking with family. I’ve made over 30 afghans over the years for relatives and friends. I also like to bake–muffins, cookies–but I’m known for my homemade pie crusts and my pies. In fact, many of my pie recipes are on my website under the tab “pies” because one of my heroines bakes pies all through the book.

Fiona McGier, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your series.

Only One Man Will Do in the Minnesota Romances series

Genre-Erotic romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): A very steamy R-rating. No children allowed!

This is an MC story, but here the female rides the Harley. Tough-as-nails businesswoman on weekdays, Alexandra is a biker queen on weekends. She’s never been satisfied with just one man, enjoying all of the men she “hand-picked” for her gang. When a large Russian man inserts himself into her life, she follows her instincts to some explosive sex. Ex-KGB agent Dmitri has been wandering across the USA for years. When the woman he’s sent to deliver an ultimatum to turns out to be his favorite fantasy come true, he decides to try to convince her that he can be all the man she needs. But he’s not willing to share her with her gang, and she’s not willing to give up other men. What starts as a fling gets serious quickly, before it turns deadly. When two of her bikers are killed, Dmitri is the main suspect. How far is he willing to go to keep her to himself? And has she really fallen in love for the first time ever…with a murderer?

Which book is this in the series?

This is book 2 in the series.

How many books do you plan for the series?

I’m not sure–I thought I was done, but another plot is whispering to me.

How many books are completed?

There are 4 books already published.

What characters are the main stars in your series?

Action movie star Raul Roderick, and his frequent co-star, Kelly Ann Sheridan. Their favorite indie director, Jared Sorenson, assigns his cousin, Veronica Sorrenson, to “babysit” Raul to keep him out of trouble. Ivan Trachenko owns a resort in the same area as their Gram-Marie. His cousin Dmitri gets sent to warn those who want to enable Raul in his addictions, to stay away from him. And Kelly’s mom Stella, is a retired CIA agent. Once they appear in the series, they often turn up in subsequent books.

What is the overall theme in this series?

When you know and accept yourself, you are more attractive to others, and more likely to find someone to love, who will love you back. True love isn’t necessary for a good life, but it improves your chances of happiness. And a natural setting leads to peace of mind.

Please list the series titles below, in any order you prefer.

1-For the Love of His Life
2-Only One Man Will Do
3-Her Last Resort
4-No More Secrets

What did you like best about writing this series?

I love to go camping up in Grand Marais, Minnesota. It’s a beautiful small town on the shore of Lake Superior, with a thriving arts community. Drive up the Gunflint Trail and you’ll find resorts, campgrounds, and many lakes designed to let you reconnect with nature. I got the idea for the first book one summer when I was sad about leaving. I imagined falling in love with a local person, so you’d have a reason to move there. Writing these books lets me pretend I’m still up there. Plus I’ve grown very fond of the people in these books.

What other books (not in this series, have you written?)

2 Female Spies books: Secret Lover, and Undercover Lovers.

A paranormal vampire romance saga: Prophecy of the Mayan Undead

2 paranormal werewolf books: When a Wolf Howls, and Worth the Wait

6 books in The Reyes Family Romances series: Never Too Old for the Game of Love, Recipe For Love, Love by Design, Prescription For Love (free download), Analysis of Love, and Love Therapy.

And can they defeat the ancient Mayan mummy who has invaded Keesha’s mind in order to stop her from discovering what the Propecy of the Mayan Undead reveals?

Part Two

As Keesha and Yuri continue to try to eliminate the Mayan threat to humanity, they have to enlist the aid of Niu Ying, a brilliant Chinese neurobiologist. As a gifted child Niu Ying was given to the state by her Chinese parents, leading to a harsh life. Her un-dead existence has been worse. When other vampires urge her not to further the destruction of humans, they bring a blue furry alien Visitor. She never expected to discover her own humanity in the arms of an alien–he never expected to fall in love. Can their passion bridge the gap between their races? And can they join forces with the others to face the return of the Mayan aliens and save humanity?

What species/races of people are in your book?

The characters in this book are mostly human, although many have been turned into vampires. Some are newly-turned, some are centuries old, and one Mayan mummy has been “alive” for thousands of years. In Part Two, there is a blue-furred alien who calls himself a “visitor.” He says that his race is eternal, traveling the universe seeking planets with promising life-forms. They nudge the dominant life-form in the direction of achieving self-awareness, in hopes of someday meeting that race traveling through space also.

Do you have non-sentient creatures or animals in your story? If so, what are they?

No.

Language and Culture

This section describes languages and culture in your story world.

What languages are spoken in your story universe?

English, Chinese, and Mayan.

If you created a language for the story, what is it called?

N/A

Please give us a few words in this language and their translation.

N/A

In the culture of your story world, what is different from ours?

Vampires exist and there is a logical, scientific explanation for how they were created, which Keesha discovers once Yuri makes her into a vampire.

What special laws are important to your story world?

The law of gravity is defied as the other older vampires teach Keesha how to fly.

What rights (such as equality) are challenges for your characters?

The ancient Mayan mummy thinks all non-vampires are like cattle, and females are beneath his notice, except to be used as sacrifices to his gods.

Story Setting

Writers usually know more about their story world than they can say in a book. This is your chance to show off things you couldn’t say or had to imply rather than state.

Describe one of the worlds where your story takes place.

This version of Earth is very similar to the real one. Vampires exist, and have always lived on the periphery of human existence. Earth was visited by aliens thousands of years ago, and they took many humans back with them to their planet. They appointed vampires they created in many countries around the world at that time, to put a plan into motion that would ensure that humans progressed, but not far enough to be able to travel into space to face the returning aliens off-planet.

We don’t get to visit the planety of the aliens, because at the end of the book, they arrive here on Earth.

What makes this world unique?

Vampires really exist.

Tell us about the age of the culture in your story, i.e., are the people part of an ancient civilization, a newly formed group within an established culture, pioneer colonists, etc.

There are vampires alive who were born back in the BCE days of humanity. Few survive the eternal existence for thousands of years, but many are still alive who have seen centuries of existence. They all regard today’s human beings as “cattle,” though many enjoy the recent scientific and technological inventions.

What food or drink is available to your characters?

Humans eat and drink as they always have. Vampires can live off mammal blood of other species for a short time, but they crave human blood. Eventually, Keesha invents a synthetic blood that is flavored to entice vampire taste buds. She also creates a company to sell the synthetic blood for use in surgeries, eliminating the need for blood donations.

In what ways was it helpful to have a map (or sketch of one) for your story? (Provide a link to an image, if available)

(Note: I will attach an image of the aliens who visited Earth before, and who return at the end of the book. This will be attached with my cover art.)

Character Physiology

Whether your characters are humans on a new world, aliens on our world, or something in between, this section discusses their physical nature.

What are the physical characteristics of the race/species of your main characters?

Vampires do not age. If teenaged when “turned,” they remain eternally young, despite being alive for centuries. All can fly. The older ones can survive the sun, though it makes them uncomfortable and quickly burns their skin. The older ones don’t even need to sleep during the day–they can choose to remain awake, though indoors. Beheading, stakes, all of the mythical ways to destroy a vampire are useless. They truly are eternal. But cross them and their faces will change to look like the monsters of myth. And starving a vampire will result in a mummy-like appearance.

What physical differences exist in the way your characters communicate (i.e., telepathy, empathic abilities, etc.) with each other?

Vampires can speak in each others’ minds. And when they share blood with another vampire, they exchange memories. The older vampire will be the one to lead the exchange, to discover what interests them the most from the younger one–but they will “filter” their own memories so as not to overwhelm a mind that isn’t used to holding so many images and memories.

What differences, if any, exist in the way your characters reproduce?

The blue furry alien says that he isn’t aware of any of his race reproducing. None of them remember the birth of any new members of their race. He assumes they’re eternal–they have always existed, and always will. But he is physically capable of having sex with a human.

Are there more than two genders in your story world and if so, what are they?

N/A

Sharing World Building Expertise

This section lets you share things you learned while writing.

Please give us three tips you find helpful when creating a story world:

I started with our current contemporary world, and added paranormal aspects to it.

There are good and bad people in all races, species, and sexes.

I created a world that I’d like to live in, and tried to make the reader feel the same way.

When you researched for your story setting, what kinds of things did you learn?

When I started this book it was supposed to be a contemporary romance. But I got writer’s block, so I put it aside. A few weeks later, I had a dream in which a tall, pale, blond man told me I was having trouble writing the book because I was giving the heroine the wrong hero–it had to be him. He smiled, showing me vampire fangs. I told him that I don’t write vampire romance–too overdone. He told me to research the Mayans, since I was incorporating their Long-count calendar and the end of the tonne in 2012 into the story.

I researched extensively into the Mayan culture. I learned that all of their public cermonies involved blood-letting. Their priests and rulers would wound themselves with knives, thorns, etc. and would collect their own blood into containers. I found no explanations of any use for that blood, so it was easy to assume that it was collected for their vampire alien visitors, whom they regarded as gods.

What things should writers avoid when building a science fiction world?

N/A

Share a resource you found helpful when researching for your story.

I did all of my reseach into the Mayan culture on-line.

What’s your advice for writers who want to create a solid background for their story world?

Let them live in your mind for long enough for them to show you the parameters of their world and how they live in it.

I have always had characters intruding into my thoughts, showing scenes from their lives. When I ignore them, they start to yell louder. If I write their stories so they can live in readers’ heads as well, they usually leave me alone. Soon the next voices appear. I like the noise. I write romances that involve strong, independent women who enjoy casual flings, but are not looking to fall in love. Enter the man who feels the same way–until they both realize this is different. I love the passion of new love!
I keep busy with multiple jobs, and have to squeeze in writing when I should be sleeping. As often as possible, I go out with my family, or just my husband, to view the night stars around a campfire. Stories present themselves to me while driving, while dreaming, and especially while camping.
I write romances that involve strong, independent women who don’t mind casual flings, but who are not looking to fall in love. Enter the man who decides this is the woman for him. I thinks that how they ultimately both realize that they have found the one, is the most interesting part of a romance.
