Fiction Furbaby: Meet Schnoozel and Ruatha from Just My Imagination by *lizzie starr @lizziestarr @RobsRescues #RLFblog #Pets
Fantasy and reality collide in *lizzie starr’s new fantasy/contemporary romance, Just My Imagination. Can his magic save her reality?
*lizzie welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! We support all furbabies, real life or fictional. We want to know all about your Fiction Furbaby, but first, please tell us about Just My Imagination
Just My Imagination by *lizzie starr
Genre contemporary/fantasy romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): M
Can his magic save her reality?
Owner of the Keltic Ranch gift shop in Olde Town, Konnor MacDhuibh is skilled in forging fantasy blades and keeping his Faerie heritage and magical abilities a secret. But when Bonnie Zhang and her two doxies need a place to stay, the empty apartment above his store is the perfect solution. Being so close to the cautious woman with haunted eyes tosses his good intentions to the wind.
Bonnie brings secrets of her own to Spencer. Leaving her broken past behind, she’s ready for a new beginning. But if her secret is exposed too soon, she could lose any hope for acceptance–and a family.
Will their truths lead to love or destroy any hope they’ve forged?
Meet Schnoozel and Ruatha from Just My Imagination
Full name: Schnoozel and Ruatha Robinton
Nickname: Schnoozel is usually Schnoozel but Ruatha is often called Rude
Gender: Schnoozel is female, Ruie is male. Both are neutered.
Species: miniature dachshunds
Physical description: Schnoozel is a wirehaired. Ruatha is a smooth dapple and has one blue and one brown eye.
Relationship to main character: Both dogs are owned and trained by Bonnie. They enjoy being therapy dogs, especially in nursing homes.
Where this furbaby came from: Both are rescue doxies.
Do you have any working or service animals in your stories? Tell us about them.
Obviously, yes. Their owner, Bonnie, is hoping to find a position at Stick Pony, the new therapy riding camp in Spencer, to provide assistance to campers who may have or want to explore the possibility of therapy and companion animals. While doxies can be difficult to train, with their doxie stubbornness, these two are therapy dogs that to provide comfort, acceptance, and love. Their specialty is working with nursing home and memory care residents.
What inspired you to create this character?
I’ve been owned by three miniature doxies and adore the breed. Two of my doxies have crossed the rainbow bridge and this book is for them.
How do other characters react to or interact with this furbaby?
What’s not to love about a miniature doxie? Oh, there are some who aren’t dog lovers. A couple residents in the local nursing home declined visits, but for the most part people like to get down to their level for loves and licks. These two have wild wiggle-butts when they’re happy. However, when wearing their working vests, most people know to let them do their jobs. But watch out when the vests come off!
What does this furbaby eat?
A good quality dog food—in fact they eat better than their owner. For a treat, they’d do anything for French fries.
What does this furbaby add to the story?
Whether simply enhancing two people meeting or barking for help in an emergency, these two are excellent at bringing people together. How my characters treat and interact with the dogs shows off their true personalities and helps the reader get to know them.
Please share an interesting fact or tidbit about this furbaby.
In order for a doxie to be considered a dapple it only needs to have one tiny spot of another color. Any of the three coat types can be dapples.
About Lessa
This post is called Fiction Furbaby, but perhaps your own pet does not have fur. If you have a pet that has fins, wings, scales, or other features, please tell us about them here.
Lessa is my siblings’ mini-doxie—although since I share a house with them, she thinks I’m hers, too. She’s trained me well in fetching cookies for her. Lessa is an old girl, very gray about the muzzle and is slowing down. We’re not sure exactly how old she is—the rescue she came from didn’t know. She has beautiful eyes with darker fur around them so she looks like she’s wearing eyeliner.
Which, if any of the pets in your writing are modeled after your own pets? In what way?
I have a goal of honoring my animal friends in my books. Although the book’s Ruatha and Schnoozel are different in appearance (I gave them my wished for coats—although Ruie really did have one blue eye) much of their personality shines through on the pages. Another canine family member that has shown up in most of my Keltic books is by brother’s dog, Noid. Big old goofy lab/chow mix. Noid is a hero many times over.
What’s the most unusual pet you ever had?
Hmm. My husband loved unusual pets. We had hissing cockroaches for awhile. They really are quite interesting.
Where did you find your pet?
Animals in my household come from a rescue or shelter—except for Schnoozel. He came from a breeder.

*lizzie always made up games and stories to keep her company. So, a cunning witch lived in Grampa’s weather research station and was only held at bay by waving a certain weed. An ancient road grader morphed into a boat carrying wild adventurers to islands filled with fierce lions and dangerous cannibals, which really looked a lot like sheep.
Now filled with fantasy, love, and romance with a sparkling twist, the stories of her imagination swirl their way into the mundane world.
*lizzie recently retired from her more routine life of being *the Lunch Lady* at a private school. According to the kids, she was ‘the best cooker!’ Yes, she misses the students and teachers, but is delighted now to start her days by telling stories rather than opening cases of chicken nuggets and counting milk cartons.
Her tagline of Author and lunch lady~~what a combination! no longer holds true (which makes her sad because she really liked that one).
Now you’ll know *lizzie by her tales of~~Romance with a sparkling twist~~

Fiction Furbaby: Meet Piper from Charm Me by Tena Stetler @tenastetler #RLFblog #Pets
A witch yoga instructor is surprised by the rugged Navy Seal owner of MoonRidge Gun Club in Tena Stetler’s Candy Hearts paranormal romance, Charm Me. Will Valentine Magic bring them together forever?
Tena welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! We support all furbabies, real life or fictional. We want to know all about your Fiction Furbaby, but first, please tell us about Charm Me.
Charm Me by Tena Stetler
Genre Paranormal Romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG-13
Summer Dawn Rylie’s an extraordinary elemental witch whose troubled past haunts her. She’s created a calm life for herself teaching yoga and keeping people at a distance. Her life takes a one eighty degree turn when she enrolls in a women’s weapons class and meets ruggedly handsome Devlin Sawyer.
Devlin, a former Navy Seal, has sworn off women after two long-term failed relationships, but there is no denying his attraction to Summer. She intrigues him like no other woman ever has. Despite her attempts to ignore him, Summer is drawn to Devlin. His magic signature is strong, but he’s no warlock. Will Valentine’s Day magic find them a future together?
Meet Piper from Charm Me
Full name: Piper
Nickname:Pip
Gender: Female
Species: Chow Chow dog
Physical description: big and furry
Relationship to main character: Canine companion/trained guard dog
Relationship to the villain/antagonist: hate
Where this furbaby came from: a kennel
Do you have any working or service animals in your stories? Tell us about them.
Yes. Piper is a trained guard dog to protect Summer Dawn Rylie.
In several of my other stories involving Wildlife Rescue (A Witch’s Journey Series) the dogs, birds, and reptiles play important roles.
What inspired you to create this character?
I was taking my puppy to obedience classes. In our class was a yoga instructor with her dog. I considered how a woman/witch alone would need protection in the mortal world. I created Piper, Summer’s guard dog with a few fun loving quirks. In fact Piper nearly takes over the story.
How do other characters react to or interact with this furbaby?
Summer’s two assistant yoga instructors absolutely adore Piper and she likes them. But when it comes to Devlin, the hero, Piper isn’t so sure this new man in Summer’s life is to be trusted.
What about this furbaby will readers like, and why?
Piper is completed dedicated to Summer and her well-being. While her main duty is protection, she still is a heartwarming canine companion.
Please share an interesting fact or tidbit about this furbaby.
Piper LOVES beef jerky. That’s one way the hero wins her over.
Describe a humorous incident involving the animal character.
Devlin, the hero, brings Summer, the heroine, her favorite hot drink on a cold, snowy winter day. He walks into the yoga Studio and is greeted by Piper in full snarl. He backs off and calls out to Summer. She calls off Piper and takes the drink.
About My Furbabies
Taco an Eclectus parrot,(23 years old) and Mystic our chow chow dog (9 years old). I also have Sammie, 52 year old Box Turtle.
These two bonded when we brought Mystic home as an eight week old pup. Taco had been through two prior dogs in her lifetime. Each one she nurtured from inside her cage as they lay below or beside her cage with her baby talk or soothing words. She mourned the passing of each dog, but happy to accept a new pup. Taco has a 250 word vocabulary that she uses in context.
If I have harsh words for Taco or Mystic for bad behavior, the one not in trouble comes running to get between me and the companion in trouble barking or screaming depending on if it’s Taco or Mystic.
Mystic has several awards. AKC Star Puppy (earned at 6 months) AKC Companion Dog title (Earned at 13 months), Obedience I & II, and several agility fun match 1st and 2nd place finishes. As she has gotten older, she guards the house, the RV and Truck but allows the order takers at Dutch Brothers access to the truck and to pet her. She also loves their puppachinos (whipped cream and dog biscuits). LOL
I believe this picture reflects Taco and Mystic plotting to take over the world. LOL
Which, if any of the pets in your writing are modeled after your own pets? In what way?
The dogs in my stories pretty much reflect Mystic’s quirks, humor (yes, dogs and other animals do have a humor) and attitude.
Taco sits on my shoulder or on her play stand in my office.
Mystic checked in about every hour or so and lets me know all is well inside and outside. Or if it’s not, she makes that quite clear.
What’s the most unusual pet you ever had?
We had an iguana for 15 years. His name was Fluffy. He was a sweet lizard. Still miss him.
Where did you find your pet?
Chow breeder, Parrot breeder, our turtle was a rescue, Fluffy came from a pet shop.
What do you feed your pet?
We prepare special parrot food for Taco. Mystic gets kibble and a bit of canned food.
Sammie – loved Taco’s cooked parrot food, Mystic’s canned food, and spaghetti.
Describe a toy or favorite item your pet loves.
Taco loves anything she can destroy, wooden toys, pinecones, metal spoons she can bang together. Noise is the name of the game on some days.

Tena Stetler is a best-selling author of award winning paranormal romance novels. She has an over-active imagination, which led to writing her first vampire romance as a tween to the chagrin of her mother and delight of her friends.
With the Rocky Mountains outside her window, she sits at her computer surrounded by a wide array of paranormal creatures, with a Navy SEAL or two mixed in telling their tales. Her books tell stories of magical kick-ass women and strong mystical males that dare to love them. Travel, adventure and a bit of mystery flourish in her books along with a few companion animals to round out the tales.
Colorado is her home; shared with her husband of many moons, a brilliant Chow Chow, a spoiled parrot and a forty-five-year-old box turtle. Any winter evening, you can find her curled up in front of a crackling fire with a good book, a mug of hot chocolate and a big bowl of popcorn.

Fiction Furbaby: Meet Princess Sofia from Ginger Snapping All the Way by Gabbi Grey @gabbigrey @RobsRescues #RLFblog #Pets
Gabbi Grey’s full-length gay romance Ginger Snapping All the Way is what happens when you take a ginger lumberjack Scrooge, who just wants to be left alone, with a sunshine pediatric nurse who needs shelter during a snowstorm.
Gabbi, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! We support all furbabies, real life or fictional. We want to know all about your Fiction Furbaby, but first, please tell us about Ginger Snapping All the Way.
Ginger Snapping All the Way by Gabbi Grey
Genre contemporary gay romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R – steamy
Maddox
I’m not a fan of Christmas. I’m happy to stay up in my mountain cabin and let the silly season pass me by. But when a friend asks for a favor, I can’t say no. Now I’m stuck in my cabin during a snowstorm, trapped with the most beautiful man I’ve ever met—who can’t wait to get away. He just might break my heart when he goes.
Ravi
I’m racing to get home for the birth of my goddaughter when mechanical troubles force my plane’s emergency landing. There are no beds at the inn due to a horrendous storm, but a friend says she knows a guy who won’t mind putting me up until the bad weather passes. Now I’m trapped with that man, and I must decide if I stay, hiding from the rest of the world, or go and face my past to earn a shot at my happily ever after.
This is a 72k word, hurt/comfort, lumberjack/nurse, grumpy/sunshine, forced proximity MM romance novel with a moderate amount of angst.
Meet Princess Sofia from Ginger Snapping All the Way
Full name: Princess Sofia
Nickname:Sof
Gender: Female
Species: Canine
Physical description: Little white furball with an adorable black nose
Relationship to main character: companion to Maddox
Relationship to the love interest: quickly wrapping the newcomer around her little paw
Where this furbaby came from: Sofia was a rescue
What inspired you to create this character?
As I was writing Maddox, I realized he was too dark. Scrooge, hermit, general grumpy guy. I acknowledged I need something to soften him up. Although he loves his nieces and nephew – and even his sister – he doesn’t interact with them until much later in the book. Vivacious Princess Sofia was the perfect foil for Maddox’s dark and brooding.
What does the main character think about this furbaby?
Maddox adores Sofia. He tries to play it off like she’s no big deal, but she’s his entire world. There are days when he’d prefer to stay in bed, hidden from the world and from himself. Sofia forces him to keep living. He has to stay healthy because she needs him. And he needs her just as much.
What does this furbaby eat?
Princess Sofia is fed very expensive kibble. When Maddox needs to bribe her – like staying out of the bedroom when he’s, uh, busy with Ravi – she gets a soup bone and even premium wet food.
What is this furbaby’s natural habitat?
For all her delicacy, Princess Sofia is a creature of her environs. She lives up on the mountain with Maddox. She loves to chase squirrels into the woods and knows to stay away from the nasty bears. She doesn’t get to see many people, so she’s thrilled when Ravi shows up – another human to manipulate.
What does this furbaby add to the story?
Princess Sofia is the comic relief in this book. Both my men have deep emotional wounds, and I worried the story might be too dark. Sofia adds just the right amount of levity.
What about this furbaby will readers like, and why?
Readers enjoy Sofia precociousness. She’s like a secondary character. She’s whip-smart (except when chasing squirrels into the woods and getting poor Ravi lost). She knows what she wants and how to manipulate Maddox to get it. Readers like how she’s able to read Maddox’s moods and to be there to support him when he’s devastated because he and Ravi need to be apart for a while.
Please share an interesting fact or tidbit about this furbaby.
Maddox’s nieces Alexa and Alannah named Princess Sofia. They’ve never seen How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days. Maddox pretends to be horrified by the name and even contemplated calling her Butch when the girls weren’t around. He realized he was too old for subterfuge and that Butch sounds too much like Bitch. He maintains Sofia likes her name. If pressed, he’ll admit to liking it as well.
Describe a humorous incident involving the animal character.
One day Maddox arrived home to find Sofia was not in the backseat. It took him two hours of walking the back roads before someone said they’d seen Sofia. She was sunning herself in someone’s backyard after having taken a dip in the kiddie pool. She never told Maddox whether she jumped or slipped. Needless to say, she’s been wearing a harness in the truck ever since. (And this may or may not be a true story – my Ally never told me if she jumped or slid – but she did take ten years off my life when I found her gone…)
About Ally
This post is called Fiction Furbaby, but perhaps your own pet does not have fur. If you have a pet that has fins, wings, scales, or other features, please tell us about them here.
Which, if any of the pets in your writing are modeled after your own pets? In what way?
Princess Sofia is Ally and Ally is Princess Sofia. My little ChinPoo has an attitude when she wants something (or doesn’t – try putting a winter coat on her). Her gentle nature was the perfect example for Sofia.
What do your pets do when you are writing?
Even as I write this, Ally’s asleep on a mat under my writing desk. She’s never more than a foot away from me. Ever.
Where did you find your pet?
Ally was a rescue. She wasn’t being abused, but she was neglected – her owner couldn’t care for her properly. She went through several different places before she came to my home. Once she realized I was her forever person, she attached herself to me. We’re almost never apart.
What do you feed your pet?
Like Princess Sofia, Ally gets very expensive kibble. She has a severe attachment disorder so when I leave, she gets a tray of wet food and a dental bone. I put her in her crate (her safe spot), dump the treats, and run like hell.
Describe a toy or favorite item your pet loves.
We were visiting my friend Donna and Ally wandered away. She came back with a stuffed rat. Donna’s dog Chili just shrugged. Ally for the steal. She loves it, and will often jump up on my lap with the rat in tow.

Will they be able to work together to secure a more peaceful future, or will their secrets drive them apart.
Meet Bandit from the Pets in Space 6 anthology story Trade Secrets
Full name: Bandit
Nickname: Bandit
Gender: Male
Species: Earth Cat
Physical description: Bandit is a marmalade tabby kitten with orange and white stripes and greenish-gold eyes
Relationship to main character: Bandit has chosen Xan and Gwen to be his human family
Relationship to the villain/antagonist: Bandit’s sister, Queenie, gets in trouble often—but this time, she’s landed everyone in true danger
Where this furbaby came from: Bandit was born aboard the Coalition warship called the Reckoning. His commander had been given an Earth cat, and had no idea she was pregnant. The Earthlings who have met Bandit and his sisters are surprised at how smart all of the kittens are, which is only getting more pronounced as they get older.
What inspired you to create this character?
The Sadirians who make up most of the Coalition of Planets reproduce through genetic engineering and use maturation chambers with mental programming facilities to create new citizens. For my first Pets in Space® anthology story several years ago, I came up with the idea of one of these stoic soldiers getting a cat and having no idea what to do when she turns out to be pregnant, since his people never encounter infants of any kind and never actually were children themselves. Bandit is one of the three kittens born aboard the warship Reckoning in my novella from that anthology, Import Quarantine. I loved the idea of telling each of the kittens’ stories, and now it’s Bandit’s turn in Pets in Space 6!
What does the main character think about this furbaby?
Xan and Gwen both adore Bandit. Xan is the main pilot for the Reckoning and Gwen is the Earthling who discovers aliens secretly living in her solar system—and even on Earth itself. Bandit is instantly taken with Gwen, who is also smitten, especially when she realizes that she somehow is miraculously not allergic to Bandit.
What does the villain/antagonist think about this furbaby?
The biggest threat the heroes face in Trade Secrets is brought about by Bandit’s sister, Queenie. She thinks that Bandit is a fool and should demand better treatment from everyone around him. Cats are obviously superior—especially Queenie and her siblings—and they should be given all the attention, toys, and treats that they deserve! In fact, they should be put in charge of everything. It doesn’t matter if they’re only kittens and don’t have opposable thumbs to run the ship—there are plenty of Sadirian soldiers on board that she can order around. The fact that all Bandit wants is love and companionship makes Queenie roll her eyes. Where’s his ambition?
How do other characters react to or interact with this furbaby?
Most of the Sadirians on the ship where Bandit and his sisters live are confused to see children of any species. Since they also have never seen cats, they assume that everything the trio get up to is within the normal range of behavior and capabilities for Earth cats. The Earthlings who interact with them are shocked and amazed…and starting to suspect there really is more to these three than meets the eye.
What does this furbaby add to the story?
Bandit is an integral connector between Xan and Gwen. Even though Gwen is drawn to Xan immediately, she wouldn’t have given in to her feelings so quickly if she didn’t see how kind and gentle and loving his is with Bandit. Their feelings for the little kitten help to cement the strong bond that forms between them.
What about this furbaby will readers like, and why?
Bandit is the sweetest little guy. He loves his people and his family, even though his cat-family drives him crazy and his sisters can be mean. He’s affectionate and curious and loyal and absolutely loveable. Plus, super-smart-Space cat! Er…not Space cat. He’s an Earth cat. A totally typical Earth cat. *whistles innocently*
Describe a humorous incident involving the animal character.
When Gwen first encounters Xan and Bandit, the alien soldier and his kitten have snuck into her house in the middle of the night. She and her best friend have armed themselves as best they could (with a rolling pin and a spatula—they were in the kitchen having tea), and are planning to get the jump on Xan. When they see him gently holding the little ginger tabby at the end of a hallway, Gwen has second thoughts about rushing him. “You can’t attack a guy holding a kitten,” as she tells her friend. Xan chooses that moment to point out to them with a smile that he can hear everything they’re saying, and would really appreciate if they didn’t attack him.

Fiction Furbaby: Meet Abby, Goliath and Daughtry from Rescue Me in the Yesterday’s Promise anthology by Cheryl St john @_cherylstjohn_ @RobsRescues #RLFblog #Pets
I just finished a short story for a new anthology releasing September 1st, and I’m really excited to share a bit about it.
Cheryl, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! We support all furbabies, real life or fictional. We want to know all about your Fiction Furbaby, but first, please tell us about your short story Rescue Me.
Yesterday’s Promise by Cheryl St John and the Aspen Gold Series Authors
Genre Contemporary Romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): G
Natalie Jordan was a disappointment to her father, though she acquired the degrees he wanted her to earn and married the man he chose. She was a disappointment to her husband too, but when he dies and she inherits land in Colorado, it’s the perfect time to create her vision of a canine rescue center.
Avery Sawyer is surprising in more ways than one. He’s driven and determined. Natalie needs his help, and he’s willing to give it as long as she forms a partnership for a project so big, she’s hesitant to agree. Natalie has to face her self-doubts in this story of love at first sight.
Meet Abby, Goliath and Daughtry from Rescue Me in the Yesterday’s Promise Anthology
Abby was Natalie Jordan’s first adoption. Shortly after moving to the farm, she took in the skittish White Swiss Shepherd found running loose with a collar imbedded in her neck. Three years later Abby’s bark is still hoarse and she doesn’t use it much. Jackson the vet said her vocal cords were damaged, and it was a miracle she hadn’t starved or suffered permanent damage to her throat and esophagus. Abby is Natalie’s gentle giant, a calm, loving companion.
Goliath, a half-Chihuahua, half-toy poodle that looks like something from a Muppet movie and barely weighs four pounds with a full belly had been her next project. General consensus is that Goliath’s combination of salt and pepper hair mixed with tufts of gray, combined with his pointy ears make him too ugly to be adoptable, but to her he’s adorable. It took weeks of patience to correct his bad habit of lifting his leg wherever he smelled an interesting scent. Now he spends his time watering the entire outdoors.
Natalie’s third house dog is a brown and white Russell terrier she lovingly named Daughtry. Rollie Weston discovered the canine tied to a trash can behind the gas station. Malnourished and filthy, Daughtry had lost his fur due to a skin disease.
With medication and adequate diet, his coat filled in, and he’s now an alert and friendly fellow, though he has an awkward gait and isn’t very fast due to a past leg injury. He loves carrots as treats.
Do you have any working or service animals in your stories? Tell us about them.
Pax, short for Paxton is Avery Sawyer’s service dog. He’s a golden retriever, trained to assist a paraplegic and pull his person in a wheelchair if needed.
Yesterday’s Promise will be available soon at all your favorite book retailers.
