Why did you write this book?
My father is 94-years-old and as you might expect, he has had a number of serious medical, age-related events. Each time, we were told to prepare for his death. Each time, he survived. The fact was, my Dad wasn’t ready to die. And his children and his grandchildren weren’t ready to let him go either. So I started thinking about terminal diagnoses and how they are really a best guess, not a guarantee. That, of course, led to thoughts how a terminal diagnosis often causes people to give up and prematurely mourn the death of the person who is ill. I wondered how that impacted the outcome. And because I was preparing to write a holiday book, I also started thinking about the power of family, and how, time after time, families are capable of creating miracles. That led me to “The Last Christmas.” Christmas truly is a time for miracles, and thought it important that everyone be able to experience one through the tale of the Wright Family.

What’s your favorite book?…
This is the most impossible question to answer. Perhaps Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice, because that book launched the romance genre as we know it today. I can’t imagine life without reading romances that end happily-ever-after.
What’s a genre you want to write?…
It would be fun to get back to time travel romance, someday. I published two pirate-themed romances a few years ago, and I’d love to return to that world.
Best writing advice you ever heard?…
Don’t be afraid to put all your best stuff into one book, because new “best stuff” will appear when you start to write the next book. When it comes to creativity, the well doesn’t run dry, so don’t ration the water.
What’s the title and genre of your first book, and where can we find it?
My first book was Doctor, Soldier, Daddy, a marriage-of-convenience story that launched a 9-book series. The paperbacks can be found at used book stores, but the ebook can be purchased in all formats, everywhere ebooks are sold. Thanks for asking! I’d like to re-read that one over the holidays. Yummy hero, if I don’t say so myself.
Easy
Coffee or tea? Coffee. I know tea has caffeine, but I swear it doesn’t wake me up like coffee does.Sit down dinner or drive through? Definitely sit down dinner, preferably somewhere fancy-schmanzy and preferably while having a good hair day and wearing a pretty dress. Candlelight required.
Fold laundry immediately or let it sit? I fold it straight out of the dryer, but don’t ask how long it sits on the dryer before I finally put it in my closet! Let’s just say the dryer makes an excellent dresser-bureau.
Unload dishwasher right away or use dishes from it? I have children. I do not empty the dishwasher if I can possible help it. They need chores, right? I’m not lazy. I’m being a good parent. *wink, wink*
Driving for pleasure or avoid driving anywhere? I fall asleep on road trips like a baby in a car seat. That was something of a survival skill when I was in the army—you had to catch a nap when you could, which was usually in the back of a truck or in a HUMM-V. I think my brain still assumes it’s vital to take a nap whenever I’m in a vehicle!
Talk or text? Text. It’s funny how it seems rude to call somebody now when a text will do.
Emoji or smilie? Emojis have gotten really fun.
