A Reluctant Santa by Adriana Kraft

    Genre: Erotic Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): Three Flames/R

Is it ever too late to find happiness?

They’re in their fifties. Grief-stricken (her) and battle scarred (him) from their previous loves, they don’t want to risk more heartbreak, ever. They’ll have to take it slow, talk it through, test the waters carefully. Can they make it happen at this speed, get it done in a short story, and reap the benefits of sizzling sex at their age? Why not?

    Insider Information about Carol Hawkins

Welcome! We’d like to know more about you. Please add info you’re comfortable sharing.

    Nickname: I’ve never had one

    Age: fifty

    Gender: female

    Birthplace: St. Paul, Minnesota

    Profession: retail store manager

Please provide a physical description of yourself.

I’m average height, about five foot four, and I work very hard to stay in shape. At fifty, I want to look forward to a future of staying active, if at all possible. I don’t especially think of myself as pretty, but I do feel good about how I look. Blue eyes. My hair used to be a soft brown, but now it’s mostly a silvery gray, not quite shoulder length. I do keep a fashionable cut – I work in the fashion industry.

    What are your pronouns?

She/her. I know that lots of people my age are upset about all the options that seem to be available now, but I think people should feel free to be who they know themselves to be. Good for them.

    What is your middle name?

    I’ve never had one.

How well does your name fit your personality?

Interesting question. What’s funny is, even though I’m not very religious, I do have a big thing for Christmas – decorations, Santa, and especially caroling, so maybe the name “Carol” fits more than I knew. I’m part of a choral quintet, five women, and we carol at hospitals and nursing homes during the Christmas season. Oh, and when I was little, I always wanted to be one of Santa’s elves.

Do you believe in love at first sight?

No. It could happen, I suppose, but it hasn’t happened to me. I had a pretty wild time in my early college years, but ended up pregnant my second year, even though both he and I thought we’d taken all the necessary precautions. I liked him a lot, and we decided we’d rather marry and raise the baby than any other alternative. I truly did come to love him, but it wasn’t the kind of moment they write about in romance novels. Which I don’t read much of. I have to add I really miss him, a lot – he died six years ago, unexpectedly, of a heart attack. I guess I’ll add that our wild times in bed didn’t ever stop, in twenty-five years of marriage. He’ll be a hard act to follow. Oops, no pun intended!

    What is your MBTI type?

I once had to take that test for a work group exercise – I think we were team building or something. Turns out I’m an ESTJ. I like to be with people, it feeds me. I’m very practical. I absolutely make decisions based on what I can observe and what I think/reason about it, and yes, once I decide something, I like to stick with it. Sometimes I find it hard to change gears if I get different information or somehow learn I’ve been wrong. I do try to be gracious when that happens, but it’s a challenge.

    What is your astrological sign?

It’s funny you should ask that – I just told you how practical I am. I don’t believe in that stuff. But I do happen to know what my sign is. As a mid-January baby, I’m a Capricorn. My best friend, Sue, gave me a surprise birthday party last winter when I turned fifty, and she had something about Capricorn at the party. Apparently I’m a perfect example: think before I act, look at the practical sides of everything, very sensible. So maybe there’s something to it!

    Favorites:

Smell: lilac. It’s both springtime and home for me. We had a huge hedge of them where I grew up.
Color: Gold. Not that I wear it much, I don’t think it especially flatters me, but to have gold things feels luxurious, so I use it a lot in my décor.
Taste: I’m not sure I have a favorite. I mostly avoid desserts, so I suppose chocolate or caramel would be special treats.
Sound: choral singing, voices singing in harmony.
    Texture: silk

    Can you:

    Swim? Yes
Use chopsticks? Why? My knife, fork, and spoon are quite sufficient. Practical, I might add.
    Roller skate? Yes
Ski? Yes, cross country, do so lots every winter. A nearby golf course sets up trails.
Fly a plane? No, and no desire to.
Ride a horse? Have done so. Not at the top of my list.

If you could choose a theme song to play when you entered a scene, which one of the following would fit best:

    Uplifting and breezy

That’s not always my mood, but it’s what I aim for. Maybe that’s part of why I love the Christmas season so much. That music always lifts my mood.

Which would your author choose for you? My author knows me pretty well, I think she’d agree. Guess I have to say “they’d” agree, since my author is a husband/wife team.

    What color best describes you?

A soft blue – not a baby blue, and not a somber blue, either. Hmm, I had to go look up names of blue shades, and it turns out it’s called Carolina Blue. My author’s college rival…

Who is the one person who can convince you to do something you know you shouldn’t?

Sue really is my best friend. She’s always pushing me to branch out, try new things, make sure I don’t turn into a stick in the mud. So if I ever did something I know I shouldn’t, she’d be the guilty party. But I’m so practical I suspect it’s unlikely.

Jocelyn bares all. The Darkness Therein by Kate Hill @katehillromance #RLFblog #VampireRomanceIn Kate Hill’s vampire romance The Darkness Therein, Jocelyn swears that nothing or no one will stand between him and revenge on the creature that destroyed his life—Until he meets Charlie.

Kate, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your book.

The Darkness Therein by Kate Hill

    Genre Vampire Romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R for sexual situations, strong language, and violence

Jocelyn has chased his nemesis for centuries. He swore that nothing or no one would stand between him and revenge on the creature that destroyed his life. That same rival leads Jocelyn to the one person who can reconnect him to the human race.

Art student Charlie has no idea that her family history binds her to a creature of legend–until he appears in the form of a tall, beautiful man with a thirst for revenge. The last thing she wants is to follow his orders, but if she intends to stay alive, she has no choice.

Note: The Darkness Therein was previously published. This re-edited version contains additional scenes.

Let’s bare it all and chat about what to wear

First, what is your name and how old are you?

Jocelyn Ayer. I’ve existed for six centuries, but look much as I did when I was changed. Back then, I was in my thirties.

What is the time period in which you live?

Our story takes place in the 1980s.

What is considered “appropriate” for someone of your gender to wear?

<smirks>Gender stereotypes have no place in my life. One should wear whatever one wants to. I’ve been told I’m prettier than a traditional looking man. Throughout my life, especially in my youth, that perception was more hindrance than help. I prefer classic clothing. Black is my favorite color. I suppose my taste in clothing is generally considered “appropriate” for a traditional man.

How do you feel about wearing that type of clothing?

I wear it because I think it looks good on me. I like to dress conservatively, for the most part.

Considering the role you play in society, what is expected for you to wear?

<laughs>I probably look very much like what’s expected of a vampire, minus the cape, of course.

Ever required to wear something you don’t like? Tell us about it.

In my days as a slave, I had no choice about what I wore, or didn’t wear is actually a more accurate description. My very existence was to please my master, whether in his bed or as a breeder. It’s not something I like to talk about. I hated being treated like a possession.

Do you make your own clothing?

No. I have neither the time nor the inclination for that.

Mending and laundry are chores for anyone. Do you do it or someone else?

Mending, not usually. When I’m finished fighting, my clothes are often beyond mending. I typically do my own laundry.

What determines the type of clothing you buy? (example, money, fashion, job)

My personal taste and what’s functional.

When you wear something different, who’s the first person who notices?

Charlie. Or Brett, if he’s around. He has a talent for invasive questions and comments.

Tell us your favorite thing to wear.

My fleur-de-lis necklace. It was a gift. And I love wearing my rings, except for the one that’s most precious to me. A portrait ring. A piece of my mortal life. It’s usually too painful for me to look at, you see. Too many memories attached. It was intended for a woman, as well, but it’s not what you think. She was my–<shakes head>Why am I telling you this? I don’t talk about that part of my life.

What kind of shoes or boots do you wear?

Black steel toe boots, whether I’m in casual or formal clothes. Charlie calls them “shit kickers.” Sometimes she’s coarse.

Does what you wear make you feel good, or do you dislike it?

This interview is liberating in a way. I don’t generally think about feeling good. Only about revenge. I suppose I do feel good in certain clothes. Much better than when I had no choice about what I wore or anything else in my life.

When others see you what is their first impression?

I’ve been called many things. Scarecrow. Effeminate. Beautiful. Sexy. Arrogant. No matter how others view me, most fear me.

How do you feel about that impression?

I could say that it comes with the territory of being a vampire, but it’s also a persona I’ve cultivated. People should fear me, and they should keep their distance.

What do you wear to sleep?

Sometimes casual pants. Other times nothing at all.

Ever dealt with a “wardrobe malfunction”? Depending on your era, you might need to ask your author what this means.

I asked Charlie instead. She thought it was a funny question. I, however, am not amused. No. I’ve never dealt with a wardrobe malfunction. Any humiliating overexposure was deliberate on the part of my foul master.

Does anyone help you dress (other than a lover)?

    No. Not lately.

    Have you ever worn:

    a uniform
    a costume
    a disguise
an outfit for the opposite gender
All of the above at one time or another. It’s been a long life.

What would you wear to avoid attention?

Despite my understated wardrobe, I can’t seem to avoid attention.

What do you wish you could wear?

I rather miss the cloak I had back in the thirteenth century. It was warm and durable. Some things aren’t made like they used to be.

What do you wish you didn’t have to wear?

The steel toe boots. It would be nice to not have to expect a fight at any moment, or go looking for them so I’ll be prepared for the final battle with Edrik.

Tell us what your author wears when writing about you.

Casual clothes. Pants, a T-shirt or hoodie. Unfortunately, she’s too lazy to truly appreciate fashion.<curls lip>She’s telling me that horror T-shirts are fashion, but to her vampires and the like are a novelty, not reality.

If your author has a pet, is the pet ever dressed in clothing?

No, she thinks her pets should be as comfortable as she is, although she does make her poor chiweenie dress up in a Halloween costume once a year for ten minutes or so for a mini photo session.

Same question for you. Pets in clothing, yay or nay?

<laughs>Would you like to try putting clothes on my mastiffs? Have at it, my friend, but don’t cry to me about the consequences.

Chanel is a fashionista. Give her a silky blouse, pencil skirt or tailored slacks, and sparkly high heels, and she’s good to go. Don’t ask her to choose between heels and cute little ankle boots. She won’t do it.

Does she know how to fix things?

She’s not afraid to get her hands dirty and will try to fix whatever is broken, but she’ll likely call for help if she breaks too many nails. Then she’ll make an emergency appointment for a mani and pedi.

She tried to do something and it went badly. Tell us about it.

Late one night, she’s walking home from dinner and hears a woman cry out behind a restaurant. She goes to investigate and sees the most horrific sight—a murder. The killer then goes after her. Though she manages to escape, she has to flee the city to stay one step ahead of the madman who wants her dead.

Pick up her book to know more.

How does she act around children she doesn’t know?

She’s not great with kids, but she adores babies because they’re easier to handle and don’t talk back.

What is she like first thing in the morning?

Grumpy until she’s swallowed lots of caffeine.

Does she drink coffee? If so, how does she take it? If not, what does she drink instead?

Coffee with milk and sugar. Cappuccinos are her favorite! She likes green tea too.

    Android or iPhone?

iPhone, but she doesn’t use it throughout her story. Unfortunately, the police confiscated it when they put her in protective custody.

    Earrings or unpierced ears?

Pierced, of course. How else could she wear all her sparkly, dangling earrings?

    Tattoos or unadorned skin?

While she’s not against tattoos, she doesn’t have any. Her friend Mia has a butterfly on her shoulder, and her other friend Belle has a broken heart on her hip, and she thinks those tats are super cute.

    Personal vehicle or public transport?

She prefers to take her car, but taxis and Ubers work too.

    Recycle or toss?

    She’s all about recycling.

Thanks for helping us get to know your heroine!

Know the Heroine from Innocent Eyes by Gabbi Black @gabbiauthor #RLFblog #Dark #HotReadTarah Peters works the nightshift as a concierge at a high-end luxury condo building. New resident, Sebastian Merrick, has caught her attention and she’s beyond curious. When he offers to show her the power of submission, she’s drawn into his web. But what will happen when their arrangement ends?

Gabbi, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! We’re excited to find out more about your heroine, but first, tell us about Innocent Eyes.

    Innocent Eyes by Gabbi Black

    Genre dark erotic BDSM romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): NC17

Hardworking university student Tarah Peters has observed tycoon Sebastian Merrick from her security guard post for weeks. Under his gaze, she experiences desire for the first time in her life, and his unexpected proposition both daunts and intrigues her.

Sebastian doesn’t proposition women, but feels compelled to offer Tarah a place to live and money for her schooling while he introduces her to his darkly erotic world. Her naïveté calls to him, but he must maintain an emotional distance while showing her the meaning of submission.

Tarah yearns for Sebastian to admit he wants more than just a Dominant/submissive relationship, that their enthrallment is mutual. Can she convince him this might be more than just an affair?

Know the Heroine from Innocent Eyes

It’s late, she’s bored. What does she do?

Tarah studies. She’s going to be an elementary school teacher and she’s struggling to finish her psychology, French grammar, and English literature classes.

What kind of food would she impulse buy if hungry?

Anything but noodles – she’s survived on them for years. Maybe a decadent dessert?

Describe the kind of clothes she prefers to wear.

When she’s not in uniform, she’s all about the casual – jeans and cotton blouses.

Does she know how to fix things?

Truthfully, to her shame, she doesn’t. Her dad fixed things when she was growing up, and she’s lived in crappy apartments ever since. When she’s needed something fixed, the landlord will – reluctantly – do it.
She tried to do something and it went badly. Tell us about it.

One night she tried to get Sebastian to talk about his past. She’d discovered various clues as to his history, but she never could have imagined the trauma. In the end, after opening up his soul, he sends her away.

How does she act around children she doesn’t know?

She dives right in. In fact, at the company Christmas Party, she specifically grabs a seat next to a child and when one puts chocolate handprints on her dress, she merely laughs.

What is she like first thing in the morning?

Cranky. She’s chronically under-slept and so struggles in the morning.

    Can she use chopsticks?

She’s incompetent with chopsticks. Although she knows the Chinese food delivery guy, she can’t afford to buy it for herself.

Does she drink coffee? If so, how does she take it? If not, what does she drink instead?

She mainlines coffee because of her weird hours. Then she crashes and sleeps as much as she can – but with school, work, and volunteering at a daycare, that doesn’t leave much time for shut eye.

What apps would she have on her phone?

Truthfully, Tarah doesn’t have a smart phone. Her phone can make calls and sends texts. She can’t afford anything else.

    Android or iPhone?

    Android.

    Earrings or unpierced ears?

    Unpierced – which Sebastian notices.

    Tattoos or unadorned skin?

Unadorned. She sees herself as a plain girl – tattoos might draw attention and wouldn’t really be appropriate for school teachers.

    Personal vehicle or public transport?

Public transport all the way. She gets around Vancouver with complete ease – hopping buses or the SkyTrain whenever she needs to.

    Recycle or toss?

Obsessive recycler. She’s all about saving the planet for future generations.

This story is told entirely through Tarah’s point of view, so Sebastian remains a bit of a mystery. I hope readers will pick up the book to discover the enigmatic hero who doesn’t call himself that.
