    Defending Her Heart

    Genre Romantic Suspense
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG
JT Whitloch can’t close his eyes without seeing the body of the woman who drowned in his swimming pool two years ago. Though he doesn’t remember that night, he blames himself for her death and walks away from a life that gave him everything he ever wanted…almost everything. His move to Crystal Creek gives him the solitude he longs for, but still he can’t find peace.
Then Gretchen Moore moves to town, and she doesn’t just stir up his desire. She stirs up his past, a past with a secret so deadly it could destroy her.
Gretchen wants nothing to do with JT. Because of him, someone wants her dead. The terror from his past forces them into an alliance that soon ignites their passion. Fighting these feelings leads them to the secret of the woman floating in JT’s swimming pool, but the knowledge doesn’t ease JT’s inner turmoil. Instead, it reveals an answer that could destroy him and Gretchen. His own destruction he could accept, but he’ll defend Gretchen to his death.

If we could only hear your voice (but not see you) what characteristic would identify you?
Deep. My voice was trained by the masters at the English prep schools, but I lost that accent long ago. I’m as American as the steers I wrangle.
Please tell us about your education.
Prep schools, boarding schools. College was considered, but by the time I’d completed the compulsory requirement, our rock band was making so much money, I never gave it another thought.

…Will these remarkable women at last find what they’ve always wanted, or lose more than they can bear?

    Questions for Christian du Plessis

When someone dies, we say they “kicked the bucket.” Therefore, a list of things that a person wants to accomplish, places to go, situations to experience, and so on have become known as a “Bucket List.”
    Age: 27
    Gender: Male
    Birthplace: New Orleans, Louisiana
    Profession: Gentleman, Investor, Duelist
    Ethnicity: French-American
Please provide a physical description of yourself.
I am tall, muscular with black hair and black eyes. I am also tanned from working in the sunlight without a shirt.
Please tell us a little about yourself.
I came from a prominent family in New Orleans, but I left the comfort of home as soon as possible, just before my majority. I am an independent man of sorts, and I made a name for myself on my own.
Who is the significant other in your life?
I am not married as of yet, but there is a woman in town, Adrienne Bellamont Hill, who has caught my eye. Like myself, she is stubborn and chooses to do things herself. She also has some pursuits that most women don’t do. I would not mind at all getting to know her better.
If you haven’t made a bucket list before, perhaps now would be a good time. Who knows? It might inspire another book. While you’re at it, how about telling us about some of your other favorite things? Here are the questions.
    What is your birth order?

If by that you mean am I a first-born son, no, that honor goes to my brother, Luc. But there are only two of us. We might’ve had another sister or brother, but my Maman died in childbirth when I was ten.
Tell us about your favorite toy as a child.
My favorite was a toy soldier. I often entertained that I was that soldier, going into battle honorably.
Describe your favorite food and how it’s prepared.
My favorite food is fried crab cakes. Seafood is plentiful around the coast.
Tell us about your best friend.
My closest friend is Pierce Laroque. He is a gentleman and successful scholar, and I would lay down my life for him. We met in school when we were children.
What are two places you would like to visit before you die, and why?
I have already visited many great cities in the states, but I would like to travel abroad, perhaps to France, where my parents originated before they came here. The other place I would enjoy visiting is Scotland. I’ve heard the folks are quite welcoming there.
Where is a place you would never like to return, and why?
My childhood home, the Arnould estate. I will never return. I do not stand to inherit a penny from my father, as Luc will have all of it, and I want nothing from the man in any case. We share too dark of a past to mention here.
Who is someone you would like to meet, and why?
Oh, I have a mind to set up an appointment with the man chasing my friend Pierce. He will pay for going after my chosen brother.
Who is someone you would like to avoid, and why?
Besides my family? I have made very few enemies. I get along with most people.
If you could time travel to any date, what would it be, and what would you do there?
Time travel? That is quite a fantastical thought. I’ve never heard of it before. But if you refer to visiting a time period in the past, I have always favored Roman tales.

    Questions for Marie Lavender

What was your biggest challenge in writing this book?
I think the biggest challenge was when all the characters wanted their say at the same time, and I had to stop and listen to them to identify what the final book in the series was about.
Why did you choose this character for the interview today?
Christian is one of my favorite characters from the book; he and Adrienne are perfect for each other. I had a blast learning about them both during the writing process!
When writing the book, what did you discover about this character that surprised you?

There are many reasons he is wary of love, but you have to read the book to find out.
Are any sequels planned for this book?
No, there are three books in the series, and they wrap everything up just right.
What genre(s) would you like to write that you haven’t tried yet?

Maybe horror. I’ve started writing a story in that genre, but I haven’t finished it.
What would your readers be surprised to learn about you?
    I have green eyes.
Why should readers who haven’t picked up one of your books before give this one a try?
Reading the boxed set of this book series will really give you a taste of my writing style. But I also write fantasy and paranormal romance, science fiction tales and even contemporary romance and romantic suspense stories.
Is there anything you’d like to say to your readers?

What are you waiting for? Grab a copy of this unique Victorian maritime romance saga. You’ll find nothing like it out there!

Love at Solace Lake series by Jana Richards @JanaRichards_ #RLFblog #contemporaryromance

Jana Richards, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Let’s chat with the sisters from the Love at Solace Lake series.

Love at Solace Lake series by Jana Richards @JanaRichards_ #RLFblog #contemporaryromance

Character Interview – the Lindquist Sisters

The last book in my new three book contemporary romance series, Love at Solace Lake, releases on March 28, 2018. The series centers around three sisters who inherit a run-down fishing lodge in Minnesota from their grandparents. Each of the sisters has a different reaction to the inheritance. They grew up at Solace Lake Lodge, raised by their grandparents after their parents drowned there in what was ruled by the police as a murder/suicide.

I’d like to introduce you to the Lindquist sisters – Harper, the responsible oldest sister, Scarlet, the troubled middle child and Maggie, the secretive baby of the family. It’s three weeks before Christmas and six weeks before the series begins. Scarlet has arranged a conference call with her sisters:

Scarlett: Harper? Maggie? Are you there?

Harper: I’m here! It’s wonderful to hear your voice. We haven’t talked in forever.

Scarlett: It’s only been a few weeks.

Harper: Maybe, but it feels like a year. Chicago is so far away. I can’t wait to see you again. When are you going to arrive here at the lodge?

    Scarlett: Yeah, about that–

Maggie: Hi. Sorry I’m late. (Yawns.) Did I miss anything?

Scarlett: (with sarcasm) I hope we’re not keeping you up.

Maggie: Give it a rest, Scarlet. I just got home from the restaurant and I’m exhausted.

Harper: I’m happy you were able to make the call, sweetheart. And I’m thankful you arranged it, Scarlet. It gives us a chance to discuss our plans for Christmas.

Scarlet and Maggie together: About Christmas…

    Harper: What about it?

Maggie: I’m sorry, Harper, but I can’t come out to the lodge for Christmas. I have to work. The restaurant is really busy over Christmas and I’m the chef with least seniority.

Harper: Oh. Well, okay. What if Scarlet and I come to Minneapolis and stay at your place? I could cook a turkey and we can open presents when you get home. That way we could still be together, even if it’s not at the lodge.

Scarlett: Harper, I’m sorry but I’m not coming home for Christmas either. That’s why I wanted to talk to you. I’m going to Cancun with friends.

    Harper: Oh.

Scarlett: I need to get away and have some fun in the sun. You, know. Drink a few margaritas and flirt with good-looking men.

    Harper: Yeah, sure.

Scarlett: I’m sorry, Harper. Please don’t be angry.

Harper: No, of course not. I’m not angry.

Maggie: Maybe not, but you’re disappointed. I can hear it in your voice.

Harper: Well sure, I would have liked to be with you both for Christmas, but since that’s not in the cards, it makes another decision easier for me. My boss at Miller’s Resort asked me to work over the holidays because so many other waitresses were asking for time off. But I wanted to see what you two were doing before I committed. Now I can tell her yes.

Maggie: You’re not just saying that to make us feel better, are you?

Harper: No, of course not. The restaurant is short-staffed. And I could always use the money.

Scarlett: To pay the heating bills in that old heap, no doubt. Why don’t you sell the lodge, or what’s left of it, and come live with me in Chicago? I’d love to have you nearby.

Harper: I’d love to be close to you, too, but I can’t leave the lodge. Grampa gave it to all three of us. He’d want it to stay in the family. He’d want all three of us to work here together.

Maggie: You know that’s not going to happen. Even if I was interested, the lodge is a wreck, and we don’t have the money to make it a viable business again.

Harper: Yeah, but if we could find the money–

Scarlett: Nobody’s going to be crazy enough to loan you money, Harper. It’s too risky an investment. Sell the lodge and move someplace new. The lodge belongs in the past.

Harper: (quietly) Were you so unhappy at the lodge, Scarlet?

Scarlett: There are a lot of bad memories there.

Harper: Not all bad, I hope.

Maggie: There were happy times, too. Like the Christmases when Grampa would shovel the snow off a piece of the lake so we could skate. And then we sat in front of the fire next to the Christmas tree and opened presents.

    Harper: We were all together.

Scarlett: Excerpt for Mom and Daddy.

    (silence)

Harper: Yeah, except for them. (clears her throat) I should probably run. I promised one of my bookkeeping clients I’d finish her month end when she closed her hair salon.

Maggie: Isn’t one job enough for you?

Scarlett: If you got a job in an accounting firm in Chicago, you wouldn’t have to work so hard.

Harper: I’m not cut out to live in a big city. (pauses) Well, I guess this is goodnight. And Merry Christmas.

Maggie: Merry Christmas. I guess we’ll talk sometime after the New Year.

Scarlett: I hope you can have some fun, even if you’re both working.

Harper: Phone me as soon as you get home from Cancun so I know you’re safe.

Scarlett: You worry too much, but I will. I love you guys.

    Harper: I love you, too.

    Maggie: Likewise.

Stressing Tempe from Storm Crazy by Livia Quinn @liviaquinn #RLFblog #ParanormalLet’s meet Tempest Pomeroy from Storm Crazy, a paranormal by Livia Quinn. Welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your latest book.

    Storm Crazy by Livia Quinn

    Genre Paranormal

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG13

Welcome to Destiny, or should I say Middle Earth…

I’m Sheriff Jack Lang. After an exciting career as a Navy pilot, Destiny seemed like the perfect place to settle down – safe, sane and secure. But that ship sailed when I met Tempest Pomeroy – sexy redheaded mail lady and trouble magnet. Tempe never fails to test the limits of my patience or the law. Every time I think it’s the last straw, up pops another haystack.

My name is Tempest Pomeroy, and my human job is delivering the mail. I’m also a Paramortal like my family, or I’m supposed to be. If I didn’t have a few little talents, I’d think I was adopted. To say I was having a bad day would be like saying Katrina dropped a little rain on New Orleans. My brother’s genie bottle is missing, my mother’s AWOL, and the sheriff and my ex-lover are squaring off like yard dogs staking a claim over a poodle. I am no one’s poodle. I’ve denied my heritage for most of my life but all this chaos is a sign of my quickening Tempestaerie power.

Oh, and the sheriff? He thinks he’s settled in a normal, quaint small town—like Mayberry?! We’ll see how that turns out… Things better settle down soon, ’cause I’m about to go…Storm Crazy.

    Stressing Tempe

Every heroine has a story. She has a background, a history, and a past. This interview allows us to meet a heroine and get to know her better, by focusing on how she handles being relaxed, as well as how she handles stress.

Please tell me about your heroine.

    Age: 29

    Gender: Female

    Birthplace: Destiny, Louisiana

Profession: mail carrier and weather witch

    Ethnicity: Paramortal

    Species (for scifi/fantasy characters): Tempestaerie

What does your heroine look like?

Tempe is tan and fit, a redhead with rainbow streaks in her hair. Her eyes are sunny blue until she gets her weather dander up then they go stormy.

Who is the significant other in her life?

Jack Lang, is becoming her significant other, but he hasn’t seen her wild side yet.

    The Heroine’s Relaxed Side

This heroine is at a party. Considering her story, describe the party.

The is being given by Jane Fortune, Destiny’s gossip columnist and 900 Psychic. It’s a ploy to get new fodder for her column.

How does the heroine feel about being this particular party, and what body language is she displaying that gives it away?

Tempe did not want to be at Jane’s party so when Jane starts asking her about the dead body she found at the clubhouse, sparks fly from her fingertips.

Is she more likely to mingle or remain aloof?

Tempe isn’t really a mingler. She and her brother were abandoned by their parents when she was ten so she tends to stay to herself.

If she drinks, what is her drink of choice at this party?

She’d love a shot of tequila but she learned her lesson – twice – this week, that Tempestaerie elements and alcohol don’t mix.

How much drink is her usual?

Ha! less than one is plenty to get her in trouble.

The heroine figures out where the hiding places are and then goes there. Is it to hide, to avoid someone, or to go drag a friend back to the party?

To avoid someone, this time the hostess.

Is she likely to latch onto a friend and stay with him/her and ignore others, or is she the friend that others latch onto?

Tempe would find Montana her bigger than life intimidating warrior friend to hang out with.

If someone picked a fight at this party, how is the heroine going to handle it?

It depends on whether they are human or a supernatural since letting others see you use your powers is a no-no. But most likely Tempe would toss a lightning bolt at them, or call up a gust of wind to distract them.

Is the heroine the one most likely to get tossed out of the party, or the one who does the tossing?

Tempe’s a trouble magnet but not the kind to get thrown out. People understand why she’s having trouble

Will she know when to leave, or stay late and make a nuisance of herself?

LOL, she’ll be looking for the first opportunity to get away.

    The Heroine’s Stressed Out Side

How does the heroine handle it if the cops or some other authority figure pulls her aside when she was blameless in a situation?

This happened and it didn’t go well. The sheriff didn’t believe her when she said she stepped over the dead body to steal her brother’s genie bottle from the locker. Ooops.

If she sees someone being assaulted, what is the FIRST thing she does?

Tempe wouldn’t hesitate to jump in and help.

This heroine attempts to rescue someone and realizes that she is in over her head. The odds are against her and there is no way out. She is going to get her butt handed to her. What does she do?

She’d fake it, pretend she was winning until she could gain an advantage, or outlast them.

The heroine runs into the one person from her past she wanted to avoid. She can’t get out of the situation and must interact in some way. What does she do?

Something she didn’t want to do after having a shot of tequila. She kisses him.

Someone younger than the heroine is in charge of the situation, and they are handling it badly, perhaps bungling things. How does the heroine deal with it?

She raised her brother so she understands the mistakes young people make and would try to help them without making them feel like she’s taking over.

The heroine is in physical pain but must bear up under it and keep going. What does she tell herself in order to get through the situation?

Pain is just a state of mind. Deny, deny, deny.

What mentor’s words come to mind in a bad situation?

“Whatever you do, stay calm. You’re about to go through your quickening.”

What lesson from her past gets her through a stressful situation?

Even when things seemed hopeless and there was no one to turn to she managed to get herself and her little brother through a bad time and they came out okay.

What one thing would you like readers to know about your heroine?

Tempe’s like most of us, she’s just trying to protect the ones she loves and do the right thing but somehow things just keep happening and that dang sheriff keeps showing up at the worst possible time.

To honor the person who chose to share your story, please answer at least four of these questions.
Why do you think your writer chose to write about you?
I feel that since the writer moved down to a 55 and over community, she wanted to see what actives she could get involved in.
What do you wish your writer had not told others about you?
I wish she would tell the readers that no matter what my husband did to me, he would always be the love of my life and I could never hate him.
Was there anything your writer discovered about you that was a surprise to one or both of you?
I was surprised how the writer got me to move on so quickly. I was also surprised how she got me to start over and achieve my dreams.
When your writer is writing about you, what do you think makes your writer the most happy? What makes your writer the most sad?
I think the writer is happy to see that I am moving forward and have made some effort to spend time with Vic. I think what saddens her is that I keep putting him off and not allowing myself a second chance.
Why do you think your writer loves to write?
I think the writer loves telling stories. I must confess that after a long walk, the writer’s story move along much more further than she has anticipated.
What do you wish your writer would write next?
I am loving the character she has turned me into. I’m hoping that she continues with the series so I can see if I ever get over my husband and am able to move on with the gentleman who’s been trying his best to woo me.
What other character from your book do you think your writer should write a book about? Care to tell us why?
I’d like for the writer to write more about Sara. Sara has a lot to say and has an interesting background. Being best friends with Sara, we have a lot of history between us that I would love to see the author explore.
Is there anything you’d like to say to your writer?
Yes. Please find me a younger man other than Vic. He’s a nice guy, but I’d rather have someone a little close to my age.

Let’s meet Jake Carrington from All the Deadly Lies, a thriller, by Marian Lanouette. Welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about the story your author wrote.

Hi Kayelle, thank you for hosting us today.

    All the Deadly Lies

    Genre Thriller
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
Homicide detective Jake Carrington takes murder personally…
The victim was bludgeoned, stripped, and left for dead. Shanna Wagner deserves justice—and there’s no better cop than Lieutenant Jake Carrington to find her killer. The brutality of the crime reminds Jake of his sister’s murder seventeen years ago, and the remorseless man responsible, now up for parole.
Then another woman is killed—and Jake goes dangerously close to the edge. He’ll have to face his personal demons and focus his formidable skills if he hopes to stop a vicious murderer from striking again—and hold on to his career, and his life…

    Introducing Jake Carrington

    Please tell me about yourself.
    Age: 32
    Gender: Male
    Birthplace: Wilkesbury, CT
    Profession: Homicide Cop
    Ethnicity: Irish American
    What do you look like?
I’m six one, a hundred and seventy five pounds, with green eyes, and reddish brown hair with a sturdy medium build. In cop speak I’d be 6’1″, 175, green/chestnut, medium/solid.
Who is the significant other in your life?
    Mia Andrews
Please tell us about your education.
I studied criminal justice at UConn in CT. I had attended there on a full sports scholarship. In my senior year I had an offer to play for my favorite team but turned them down. I had decided after my sister’s murder to follow in my father’s footsteps and become a cop.
Do you see morality as black-and-white, or with shades of gray?
I think it’s pretty cut and dry. That said, the job taught me there’s shades of gray.
If someone from your past showed up, who would you most NOT want it to be, and why?
That’s easy, but every few years I have to face him down when I attend his parole hearings with the pictures of my sister’s crime scene. It’s George Spaulding. That murdering no good son of a…
    What is your biggest need?
Peace, which seems to elude me.
What would help you face hardship and meet any challenge?
My partner and best friend Louie Romanelli and his wife have been with me throughout most my life and have carried me in times of despair.
If you could make any one thing happen, what would it be?
I was a selfish teenager. I couldn’t wait to meet up with my girlfriend and turned down my sister who had asked for a ride to her friend’s house.

I’d turn the clock back and give Eva the ride she had asked for that fateful day.
