    5 Easy Questions: Barbara White Daille @BarbaraWDaille #RLFblog #Contemporary

    The Sheriff’s Son
5 Easy Questions is an interview is designed to be quick, easy,
and fun. Today’s guest is Barbara White Daille.
Would you rather stay inside and watch snow falling, or get
out in it and build a snowman?
Stay inside. Preferably on the couch with a good book, snuggled
beneath an afghan and/or close to a crackling fire in the fireplace (if I had one).
Oh—and with a tray of hot chocolate and cookies by my side.
What was your favorite book as a child?
    Wow, is this a tough
question. I would have trouble picking a favorite series, let alone a favorite book.
    Really, there were so many….
But I’ll take a stab at what’s bringing back fond memories at
this very moment—and that would be Harriet the Spy.
I connected with Harriet because, like me, she always knew she
was going to be a writer. And I loved getting a peek into her notebook filled with
observations about her life and all the quirky characters she ran into.
What were you like when you were in school?
Shy, quiet, introverted, and with my nose usually stuck in a
book. Pretty much the way I am now.
If the hero of your latest book called you on the phone, what
would be a perfect ringtone for him?
Since my hero’s a deputy sheriff and I would be channeling my
heroine, the ringtone would be an oldie but goodie: I Fought the Law.
    Remember that one?
Three-quarters of the lyrics are “I fought the law and the
law won.” And since you know I write romance, it’s probably not giving anything
away to say that…eventually…Deputy Sheriff Tanner does win Sarah’s heart.
What is your go-to meal to order when you dine out? Your favorite
“I know it will hit the spot” item.
No-brainer on this one! My favorite dish is Alaskan King Crab
Legs with plenty of hot melted butter.
Because they’re on the pricey side, I tie them into a “reward”
for hitting an important milestone, which usually means turning in the manuscript
for the next book…or the sale of a new book…or the release of the latest book. As
The Sheriff’s Son had already been out in print and has just been re-released for
the first time in e-book format, I figured that entitles me to celebrate this book
    twice!

    About the Book

    The Sheriff’s Son
Why Is Tanner Jones Back In Town?
Seven-year-old Kevin has been a handful
for single mom Sarah Lindstrom, and when the new sheriff walks through her door
holding her son by the scruff of his neck for egging his car, she knows she’s lost
control. But can she control herself—and keep the secret she’s kept for so many
    years?
Tanner Jones has no idea Kevin is his
son—he lost the right to that information when he abandoned Sarah soon after graduation.
Just because he’s back in town doesn’t mean he can waltz into her life—and Kevin’s—to
pick up where they left off. But Sarah can’t deny the feelings she still harbors
for Tanner, and can’t deny how her son is benefiting from his attentions.
    When Tanner
finds out the truth, what is he going to do?

Interview: Author and Artist JoAnn Myers @scooterismine #RLFblog #painting #artist

Today’s author (and artist) guest is Mystery and Suspense
    writer JoAnn Myers.
Tell us a little about yourself.
I have been a long-time resident of southeastern Ohio, and worked
in the blue-collar industry most of my life. Besides having several novels under
    my belt, I canvas paint.
When not busy with hobbies or working outside the home, I spend
time with relatives, my dog Jasmine, and volunteer my time within the community.
I am a member of the International Women’s Writing Guild, Savvy Authors, Coffee
Time Romance, Paranormal Romance Guild, True Romance Studios, National Writers Association,
the Hocking Hill’s Arts and Craftsmen Association, The Hocking County Historical
Society and Museum, and the Hocking Hills Regional Welcome Center. I believe in
family values and following your dreams. My original canvas paintings, can be found
    at: booksandpaintingsbyjoanne.com
    What genres do you write?
I write fantasy, paranormal, true crime, mystery and poetry.
What is your next book about?
These are stories about handsome, courageous and determined men
who don’t let anything or anyone get in their way of catching the bad guy.
Are any of the characters in your books like you?
Yes, and I also fuse my friends, relatives and co-workers into
    my characters.
What type of paint do you use, and what do you paint?
I currently use oils and acrylics. I paint a lot of lighthouses,
sunsets, sunrises, beach scenes, woods. I like bright colors, and I like the way
    oils blend together.
What is the hardest part of painting?
Determining what size canvas to use, and picking out the frame.
Sorting through all the paint colors and brushes you will be using is time consuming.
Painting leaves you with a beautiful picture to hang on your wall, but it is a lot
    of work.
What is the newest project(s) you are working on?
My crime/mystery anthology “Flagitious” due out later
this month by Melange Books. More canvas artwork to add to my growing collection.
I get a lot of inspiration for paintings from calendar pictures.
What do you do when you’re not writing and painting?
I have a day job at a nursing home. I take mini vacations, I
watch television. I enjoy true crime shows, Judge Mathis, Turner Classic Movie Channel,
Syfy station, the Western channel, I run my website Books and Paintings by JoAnne
    and promote, promote, promote.
Is there anything you will never paint or write about?
    Erotica. It is too naughty.
Is there anything you would tell aspiring artists?
Never give up. If you truly enjoy something, you must stay with
    it.
If you could be any paranormal creature what would you be?
A jumper, so I could jump in and out of everywhere.
If zombies attacked what kind of supplies
    would you want?
    Zombie killing ray guns.

    Interview: Authors Erin McRae / Racheline Maltese @erinmcrae @racheline_m #RLFblog #LGBT

    Starling
    Title Starling
    Genre Contemporary Gay romance
Authors Erin McRae and Racheline Maltese
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

    Interview with Erin and Racheline

    What were you like when
    you were in school?
Erin: When I was a junior in high school, I was bored out of
my mind in English class and one day I guess my teacher got tired of me just
sitting on the windowsill at the back of the room, doing my own thing, and took
me down to the school book room. Like, this massive room, with these weird
concrete walls because it was adjacent to the room under the pool, which was
also a nuclear fallout shelter — my school was built in the 60s — full of
shelves crammed with all the non-textbooks the school owned. And she just walked
me through the whole room, and pulled off a copy of every book she thought I
should read that the curriculum didn’t cover anymore. I still have them all.
Racheline: Most of my pre-university education was at a
private school that had been known as Miss Hewitt’s Classes for Young Ladies at
one time. I got a fantastic literature and Latin education there, and I am
grateful for it. But I was extremely awkward, and didn’t fit in in terms of
class and background. I spent a lot of time hanging around with adult artists
outside of school because my parents are painters. No one knew what to do with
me, and I got bullied a lot, but I also learned tons of trivia about forks and
    courtesies.
    Would you rather stay
inside and watch snow falling, or get out in it and build a snowman?
Erin: Snowman. We don’t get a lot of snow in DC — and when
it does, it tends to be a disaster — so most of the snow I know is in my
hometown in upstate New York. There’s an incredible silence when snow is
falling, that’s not quite like silence anywhere else. I love all the cities
I’ve lived in, but I miss that silence.
Racheline: I am deeply superstitious about the first snow
each year. I’ve had a lot of really magical (and usually romantic and/or
sexual) luck happen around those first snowstorms. But I also hate the cold.
I’ll stay outside for the first one, then I am over it.
    What is your favorite
    quote?
Erin: “The work is the prayer.” For which even
Google isn’t giving me a proper attribution. But it’s one of those things you
hear everywhere.. And when a lot of people say it, it’s this sort of zen thing
about not being preoccupied with results and just letting the effort be what
counts. And there’s definitely value in that. But where I first encountered the
quote was from Baz Lurhmann, who says it all the time and it’s always like a
curse. From him, it’s about putting everything you have into the work and kind
of just fucking the obstacles that get in your way. On the hard days, it’s a
reminder to me to just put my head down and keep going.
Racheline: “Tomorrow is the first lie of the
Devil.” — Robert Fripp. I don’t really believe in the devil, but I think
it’s a useful quote, not just about procrastination, but about how seductive
time is. You never know when you’re going to be hit by a bus. If you want to do
    a thing, do it now.
    What was your favorite
    book as a child?
Erin: I read Little House in the Big Woods so many times the
cover fell off, and I still come back to that book and everything else written
by Laura Ingalls Wilder. History was my first love, because for me it’s always
just about people, living their lives in so many different circumstances and
situations. Which is just what all stories are, really.
Racheline: When I was twelve, Anne Rice’s The Vampire Lestat
came out. For some inexplicable reason, it was available to buy at my school
book fair and a friend who knew I was afraid of vampires dared me to read it. I
read it again and again and again, because it was the first thing I had ever
read that said big emotions were truthful and okay and necessary. It was also
the first time I encountered any sort of queerness in text. It really saved me,
I think, from being more miserable than I already was at that age.
    What was the last movie
    you watched (home or theater)?
Erin: Marie Antoinette, for research purposes.
Racheline: Guardians of the Galaxy. That entire movie
succeeds on its soundtrack, which may tell you my age. But that film is all in
    the hips.

    Interview with Marilyn Baron

    Why did you write this
    book?
I wanted to feature a heroine of a certain age because I’m not
getting any younger and I believe people don’t just want to read about twenty-somethings.
This book was originally called, The Colonoscopy Club, so right away you know what
age I’m talking about. In Stones, I take a humorous look at a woman who can’t seem
to get closure in her life. My central character Julie has issues. Even her issues
have issues. Stones is about how Julie deals with those issues and features the
themes of first loves and second chances.
    What is your favorite
    genre to read?
I write in a number of genres—from historical romantic thrillers
and suspense to paranormal and women’s fiction—and I love to read a variety of genres.
Among my favorite genres are thrillers, literary fiction, and romantic suspense.
I have read a lot of amazing YA lately.
    What is your favorite
character from fiction (not including your own characters)?
Gabriel Allon in the Daniel Silva books.
    Do you enjoy films and/or
TV shows? Which are your favorites?
I love movies and I watch a lot of TV. Some of my favorite TV
shows are Castle, Rizzoli and Isles, Major Crimes, Blue Bloods, The Good Wife, The
    Bridge, and Downton Abbey.
    What are you working on
at the moment, and what are we likely to see from you in the coming months?
I am currently finishing Book Three of my Psychic Crystal Mystery
Series. Book One is Sixth Sense; Book Two is Homecoming Homicides. Book Three is
called Murder on the Repositioning Cruise.
I have a new women’s fiction book coming out this year in The
Lobster Cove Series from The Wild Rose Press (TWRP) called The Widows’ Gallery.
I’m very excited to be participating in this series. Lobster Cove is a quaint and
quirky fictional town on the coast of Maine near Bar Harbor. Participating TWRP
authors write stories across all lines as long as they’re set in Lobster Cove.
Here’s the blurb for The Widows’ Gallery:
Four recently widowed women meet on a Mediterranean cruise, bond
over the Renaissance masterpiece, The Birth
    of Venus
, in Florence, Italy, and find love, friendship and joy in their joint
venture to open an art gallery in the quaint, quirky, coastal town of Lobster Cove,
    Maine.
    Please tell us some fun
facts about your latest book, Stones.
The Colonoscopy Club (Now the published novel Stones) finaled
in the GRW Unpublished Maggie Awards for Excellence in 2005 in the Single Title
    category.
I lived in Florence, Italy, for six months during my junior year
in college, where I studied Art History, Italian, English, Mythology and Religion.
Part of Stones is set in Florence. The story is also set in Atlanta, Miami, and
Palm Coast. I was born in Miami and currently live in Atlanta and I own a beach
condo in Palm Coast. My central character owns an upscale jewelry boutique called
Stones, hence the name of the novel. I love jewelry, which is why I chose that career
for my heroine. My birthstone is an emerald which is why I wanted an emerald necklace
on the cover. A priceless emerald medallion is also featured prominently in the
    book.
In Stones, Julie is planning her son’s wedding and in real life,
    I’m planning my daughter’s wedding.
The first line and my favorite line of the book is “Thank
    God for lint.”
The book will be officially released September 26. Right now
it’s only available in paperback. It was released early in paperback in time for
my appearance on a panel at the Decatur Book Festival Saturday August 30 from 10:00
a.m. to 10:45 a.m. called “Tackling Sensitive Issues in Fiction.” Additional
information about the event is available on https://www.facebook.com/events/623254154448358/
If you’re in the Atlanta area over Labor Day I hope you’ll attend the presentation/book

    Interview with Elise Cyr

Why did you write this book?
As a lover of history, I have always been fascinated by accounts
of how one person can have a profound effect on events. This story started with
one person as well: William Malet who was an English advisor to Duke William as
he prepared to cross the channel and take England for his own. I wondered at how
an Englishman could come to help a Norman take over his homeland, and figured there
must be others in England who would be in a position to help Duke William in the
conquest, given the charged political climate. Thus, my heroine’s father, Lord Bernard
Dumont, was born, a man with conflicting loyalties who could ease the way for Duke
William’s rule. His actions set the book’s plot into motion and are the means of
placing my English-born but Norman-blooded heroine in the path of the hero—one of
    William’s honor-bound knights.
What is your favorite genre to read?
Romance! I found romance novels in my early teens. Classics by
Jane Austin and the Brontë Sisters, gothic suspense by Victoria Holt, Harlequin
Superromances, and the audacious but unputdownable bodice rippers. I read them all,
but something about historicals in particular kept me coming back for more. The
appeal of another time and place, love that risks everything, and of course the
    dresses!
What is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own characters)?
I think Lizzie Bennett will always have a special place in my
heart, along with Egyptologist Amelia Peabody in Elizabeth Peters’ mystery series.
Do you enjoy films and/or TV shows? Which are your favorites?
It’s hard to only pick a few… There’s a special place in my heart
for nearly all Masterpiece Theatre productions. I’ve been enjoying the first two
seasons of Elementary and love watching standup comedy. Movies-wise, I’ve always
been a fan of James Bond, the original Star Wars trilogy (which has some medieval
tropes, surprisingly), and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.
What are you working on at the moment, and what are we likely to see from you in the coming months?
I’m currently revising another medieval story set during the
crusades. After that, I have a another book I want to write, but I’m still thinking
about it—often I let stories simmer in the back of my mind until the pot boils over,
so to speak, and I’m compelled to start writing.
Please tell us about your latest book.
It’s a medieval romance called Siege of the Heart from Kensington,
set during the Norman Conquest of England, with a knight seeking his place in the
world and noblewoman struggling to hold on to all she holds dear. It’s the first
novel I ever got to “The End” on. It has taught me so much about writing
and myself, and I’m so glad to share it with the world.
He fought for king and country, but that battle is nothing
compared to the one he’ll wage for a woman’s heart.
Still reeling from the news of her father’s death during the
Norman Conquest, Isabel Dumont is unprepared when trouble arrives at the castle
gates. Alexandre d’Èvreux, a Norman knight with close ties to England’s new
king, has arrived to secure the land and the loyalties of the Dumont family.
Desperate to protect her people, Isabel strives to keep the confounding knight
at arm’s length and hide the truth about her father’s death.
For Alexandre, the spoils of war come with more than just a
generous gift of land. They come with Isabel Dumont. Vowing to marry only for
love, Alexandre finds himself in a difficult situation as a conqueror granted
dominion over the land and its people. Isabel is the one person capable of
helping him win the regard of those living in the war-torn country…if he
    chooses to accept her.
Just when Alexandre finds a spark of hope that he and Isabel
have a chance at love, she vanishes. His quest to find her plunges him deeper
into the conquest’s fallout. Was she taken? Or did she leave?
CONTENT WARNING: Entering into this novel may cause extreme
affection toward knights of old, admiration for strong-willed women, and the
overwhelming belief that love really can conquer all.

    Author Bio

Elise Cyr has always loved adventure, romance, and happy endings.
She writes primarily in the medieval period. Because there’s still so much we don’t
know about that time in history, the writer’s imagination is essential for fleshing
out the research and making it come to life on the page. Plus swords and castles
are just plain fun. She lives in New Mexico with her husband and the sweetest dog
ever. When she’s not writing, she hikes, bikes, cooks, and (of course) reads. Siege
of the Heart is her debut medieval romance.

    5 Easy Questions: Renee Donne author of Runaway @reneedonne #RLFblog #cowboy #historical

    Runaway
5 Easy Questions is an interview is designed to be quick,
easy, and fun. Today’s guest is Renee Donne.
    What is your go-to meal
to order when you dine out? Your favorite “I know it will hit the spot”
    item.
Sushi. I don’t really dine out regularly and Sushi is not something
that I make at home, so when I do go out I enjoy going to the local Sushi restaurant.
    What were you like when
    you were in school?
    Quiet and studious
    Would you rather stay
inside and watch snow falling, or get out in it and build a snowman?
Both, but we rarely get snow in Florida. When it does snow, it doesn’t stick
to the ground. If you compare it to the beach, sometimes I like just sitting and
watching the waves, and other times I just want to dive in.
    What was the last movie
    you watched (home or theater)?
The last good movie I watched was The Hunger Games: Catching
Fire. I enjoyed it in the theater and bought it on DVD to watch again at home.
If the hero of your latest
book called you on the phone, what would be a perfect ringtone for him?
It would probably be the theme song from one of the old TV Westerns.
My latest book is a historical romance, set in the old west, and the hero is a cowboy.
