Discover secrets behind Burning Bridges by Anne Krist @DeeSKnight #RLFblog #contemporaryromance #secondchanceOld letters turn Sara’s life into chaos in Anne Krist’s Burning Bridges. Did you ever tell a lie for so long that even you believed it? And then get caught? Ah… Then you understand Sara in Anne Krists’ Burning Bridges.

Welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your book.

    Burning Bridges by Anne Krist

    Genre Contemporary romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG

Not your typical “secret baby” book, this Southern romance is filled with emotion between a mature heroine and the man she used to love.

Letters delivered decades late send shock waves through Sara Richards’s world. Nothing is the same, especially her memories of Paul, a man to whom she’d given her heart years before. Now, sharing her secrets and mending her mistakes of the past means putting her life back together while crossing burning bridges. It will be the hardest thing Sara’s ever done.

    Tell us a secret!

Describe a scene you decided to cut. Bonus – explain how you decided.

I really liked Matt, the Marine in the book who is sort of Sara’s boyfriend. He’s being transferred to California and wants Sara to come with him. He’s in love with her but because of her daughter, her heart always has a tie to Paul, the sailor she fell in love with as a young girl. I had a scene where Sara and Matt were almost intimate but I cut it because it felt like Sara would be cheating on Paul.

Fill us in on a quirk or background info about your main character that you might not have revealed in the book.

Sara and Paul enjoyed some real-life places, like Virginia Beach itself, the Alan B. Shepard Convention Center, and Sand Bridge, a beach in the area.

What quirk of your own is written into one of your characters?

Sara and I share a little history. My dad was in the Navy when we lived in Virginia Beach and, like Sara, I attended a concert at the convention center, though I didn’t meet a sailor there and fall in love. Like Sara, my dad did not want me dating sailors. Wonder why…? 😉 I did fall in love while living in Virginia Beach, though, a young man I went to school with in eighth grade. We later married but before that, we walked along the shore at Sand Bridge many a time, like Sara and Paul. Happy memories!

Without naming names, tell us about a character quirk that is patterened after someone you know.

Sara’s father is a lot like mine. He was strict and protective, but I know he loved me and that that was the reason for his protectiveness.

    Anne Krist Social Media

Anne Krist is the “sister” to erotic romance author Dee S Knight. She is quieter, more reserved, and certainly more circumspect about S-E-X than her wild and crazy sibling. Thus, she’s more comfortable writing sweet(er) romance, where there might be a few sensual scenes, but no more than that. One thing about Anne: she’s not less romantic than Dee. They both write in happily ever after and share the solid belief that love can last forever and beyond!

Evil Lives in the Night by Jan Selbourne and Anne Krist

    Genre Historical mystery suspense

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG+

Two great historical novellas that will keep you guessing.

In Jan Selbourne’s The Next Stop is Dead, a woman boards a city train one night and finds herself alone in the car with four strangers, all men. When she discovers one of them is dead, she has to find a way to exit the train and get help. Will she escape, or will the next stop be her final one?

In Anne Krist’s Missing, sisters Audra and Daina communicate using “twin language.” But how much difference will that make when Daina disappears? Can Audra find her sister before her abductor ends Daina’s life? Even with the help of an over-protective detective, saving her missing twin might not happen in time.

Know the Heroine from Evil Lives in the Night

Here are some fun questions to help us know your heroine.

It’s late, she’s bored. What does she do?

Audra has such a hectic schedule, she hardly has time to be bored. Plus, she’s almost always with her twin sister, Daina, and she can make anything boring into something fun. She’ll start singing, or grab Audra for a waltz around the room or suggest they race each other if they’re involved in a task that requires no thinking. Daina is the fun to Audra’s seriousness.

What kind of food would she impulse buy if hungry?

A Bing bar. They’re made at the Palmer Candy Company right there in Sioux City, Iowa. Dee-licious!

Describe the kind of clothes she prefers to wear.

Audra rarely wears pants or slacks outdoors. If she goes out, it’s in a dress or skirt. She wears low heels or sturdy shoes, and her hair is braided and then set in a twirl on her head, much the way her mother and grandmother wore it in years past. She’s a Lithuanian farmgirl moved to the city, but she likes the ways she was raised. Not so with Daina, but then, Daina might revert back to more of the family’s ways when she’s ready to settle down.

Does she know how to fix things?

Simple things. Her parents were farmers, unused to buying replacements. She was expected to keep things running as well as she could, and that meant repairing until whatever she was using wore out.

She tried to do something and it went badly. Tell us about it.

How does she act around children she doesn’t know?

Audra loves children and she does very well with them, whether she is familiar with them or not. She’s quiet and calm, and her bearing helps children be quieter and calmer, too. She’s not averse to sitting on the floor (or the ground) and playing on their level.

What is she like first thing in the morning?

Audra doesn’t jump out of bed, but she does wake up awake. When the alarm goes off, she sits up, stretches and gets up. She says her prayers and prepares for the day. She likes coffee with her breakfast but she isn’t one of those people who “have” to have it before she functions.

How does she handle things when in a “proper” social situation?

She isn’t used to very formal situations. She doesn’t know which piece of silverware to use if they’re more than four pieces at a place setting, or own formal gowns, for instance. But she was raised with good manners and she’s always found a smile takes her far in any situation.

Maid or takes care of herself?

Oh, definitely takes care of herself. If she finds herself in a clothing pickle, Daina helps out.

    Proper dress or casual clothes?

A dress—clean, pressed, and to the knees—for church, along with gloves, a hat, and polished shoes. A skirt of casual wear, also to the knees. A pressed blouse. She mostly wears casual for work and school.

    Sleeves buttoned or rolled up?

She isn’t above rolling up her sleeves for chores, though normally she will wear blue jeans (or corduroy in winter) and a blouse when she’s cleaning or helping out at home.

    Powdered wig or natural hair?

Our stories take place in the mid-1950s, so no powdered wigs. I mentioned above how Audra wears her hair. Her twin, Daina, likes to wear hers down around her shoulders and turned under.

    Carriage or horseback?

Neither. They take the bus or they walk. Taxis fares are too expensive. Some—but not many–of their friends have cars but catching a ride somewhere is a treat, not a common occurrence.

Thanks for helping us get to know your heroine!

A few years ago, Dee S. Knight began writing, making getting up in the morning fun. During the day, her characters killed people, fell in love, became drunk with power, or sober with responsibility. And they had sex, lots of sex. That’s how Dee spends her days. Her nights? Well, she’s lucky that her dream man, childhood sweetheart, and long-time hubby are all the same guy, and nights are their secret.

After a while, Dee split her personality into thirds. She writes as Anne Krist for sweeter romances, and Jenna Stewart for ménage and shifter stories. Pick up cool tips from Jan Selbourne and Anne Krist authors of Finding a Christmas Miracle by @DeeSKnight @JanSelbourne #RLFblog #HolidayRomance #PNRJan Selbourne and Anne Krist write of two men in Hell, wishing for a Christmas miracle with little hope of getting it.

Anne, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Thanks for sharing two tips with us today, but first, please tell us about Finding a Christmas Miracle.

Finding a Christmas Miracle by Jan Selbourne and Anne Krist

    Genre Historical romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

Two exceptional novellas featuring two men engulfed in a war no one understands or wants—Vietnam. They’re both hoping for a miracle with little expectation of finding it.

Jan Selbourne lends her award-winning writing talent to A Miracle in the Outback. Nick Saunders is in a hurry to escape a family argument and also to return to his Army base in Wagga Wagga. He doesn’t need another complication. Rachel Garth is a woman with a broken down car, a small girl, a deadly snake, and a baby on the way. She needs Nick’s help. He doesn’t know it, but he needs hers, too.

In award-winning author Anne Krist’s The Miracle of Coming Home, Army PFC Tom Stabler wins a trip to his parents’ Nebraska farm for Christmas. He needs the time away from the war. Lately, he’s been feeling lost and too alone. Trouble is, being home is almost as bad. Then Susan Swensen arrives, just as sweet and pretty as he remembers. Can Susan help him find himself again, or will it take a miracle?

    Two Tips for Writing

Since Jan and I wrote this book as a team, I’d like to address writing with a partner.

Taking a partner in writing is not an easy thing. So my first tip is to work with someone you respect as a writer and with whom you know a little something of their personality. Writing is not only (sometimes) an isolated endeavor, it’s also a possessive kind of task. For a team to work, you need to be able to take editing and critiquing from your partner. This is why you need someone you respect—you have to trust them with your work and their comments. The goal is to make a really good book readers will love. The partnership won’t work if you don’t respect both your partner’s writing skill and their judgment in helping you make your work better.

Be sure you’re both on the same page. As individual writers, we can change a story line mid-way if we want to. Turn that heroine on the train from New York to Chicago to an astronaut riding the trail of a comet to the outer galaxies. But with a partner you need to agree ahead of time to a genre, time period, length, and deadline, at a minimum. Any later changes must be discussed and agreed to or else you could have a disjointed book on your hands. Jan and I came to a decision on our book from an off-the-cuff email discussion. She said she had in mind a novella story line that involved the Vietnam War. I asked if she would be interested in a duet book if I also wrote a Vietnam War novella. And here was another consideration: Jan doesn’t write erotic romance as Dee S Knight does. So I agreed to write my portion as Anne Krist, Dee’s sweet little sister. It wouldn’t do for Jan’s fans to turn the page and suddenly find a hot sex scene in a Dee novella. Agreement and joint decision making, that’s my second tip for writing with a partner.

Jan and I wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a New Year looked forward to with anticipation!
