Small Town Romance and Danger at Christmas A Hero's Heart by Amber Daulton @amberdaulton1 #RLFblog #NewRelease #HolidayRomanceAmber Daulton, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your book.

A Hero’s Heart by Amber Daulton

    Genre Holiday Romance/Romantic Suspense

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG-13

    Lies. Betrayal. A million-dollar bounty.

After an undercover mission goes awry, DEA agent Jarrett Brandt hides out in the last place he wants to be—his hometown. Now he’s stuck with his judgmental parents and the memory of his perfect brother hanging over his head. His one bright light? Marissa Reinn Brandt—his high school sweetheart and former sister-in-law.

Marissa lost Jarrett once before. No way will she let him back in; then her son offers him their guestroom. His wicked charm and smoldering stares are hard to resist, but she’ll make him work to reclaim his spot in her bed.

When his enemies close in, how will Jarrett keep Marissa and her son safe, or will he lose his shot at redemption?

    – Triggers: drug use (discussed) and a brief assault of the heroine

    – A Hero’s Heart is a smoking hot second chance, romantic suspense novella. No cheating. HEA guaranteed.

    – Second edition. Newly revised and edited.

Why did you write this book?

I love action/adventure books, and I’ve always been intrigued by federal agents on undercover missions. I also adore holiday romance. So why not smash up a few genres and have fun? A Hero’s Heart is a culmination of heat, heart, danger, and second chances. I wrote it back in 2013 for a Christmas-themed anthology call with my former publisher, and the rights to the story reverted to me a few months ago. With a fresh cover, edit, and blurb, it’s finally ready for a new home on your e-reader.

What is your favorite genre to read?

Romantic suspense and paranormal romance are tied as my favorite, but I read all sorts of romance books with the exception of poetry and inspirational. Usually, I don’t care about the sub-genre as long as the characters are fully developed, the pacing is fast, and the plot is strong.

Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?

I love Mr. Darcy and Lizzie from Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. They complement one another perfectly in the opposites attract kind of way.

What are you working on at the moment?

When I have time outside of promoting and marketing my newest releases, I’m editing the third book in my Arresting Onyx series, Arresting Benjamin. It follows Benji and Belle as they build a relationship that results from the unexpected consequences of a smokin’ hot one-night stand.

What books will we see from you in coming months?

A Hero’s Heart is my second re-release this year, and it came out on November 2nd. I have a brand new novella in the Into The Fire box set, which will be hitting the digital shelves on December 14th. Both of these books are romantic suspense, so strap yourself in for a wild ride.

    Forever Winter by Amber Daulton @amberdaulton1 #RLFblog #NewRelease #RegencyRomance

Forever Winter by Amber Daulton @amberdaulton1 #RLFblog #NewRelease #RegencyRomanceA Sweet, Standalone, Regency Romance Wedding novella by Amber Daulton.

Amber, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your book.

    Forever Winter by Amber Daulton

    Genre Regency Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): G Sweet

A perfect Christmas wedding, a snowstorm, and a shocking secret. What could go wrong?

Susanna Lorican must marry the man she loves before the truth is discovered—or face the gossip of the ton. With an unexpected snowstorm injuring the minister, her future hangs in the balance.

Viscount Camden Beckinworth vows to keep his bride safe, even if he must betray her confidence. When their love is put to the test, how will he uphold her honor without jeopardizing his own?

    – Warning: this sweet, complete Regency romance novella features a brief scene where the heroine is assaulted.

    – Second edition. Newly revised and edited.

Why did you write this book?

Back in 2012, I was searching the Internet for anthology submission calls when I found one looking for sweet Christmas-themed romances with a word count of 15k. The deadline was in two weeks, so I figured I didn’t have enough time to plot and write something. But I kept thinking about the call, and for some reason, I set it in the Regency period. Susanna and Camden kept talking to me, urging me to tell their story. So I did. I wrote, edited, and finally submitted it on the day before the deadline. A few days later, I got my first acceptance email. I re-read the message at least two or three times before the truth seeped in—I found a publisher who wanted my book! It’s a great feeling.

Now the rights to Forever Winter have reverted to me, so I’ve re-released it with a fresh edit and cover.

What is your favorite genre to read?

That’s a tough one! I love reading historical romance as well as romantic suspense and paranormal. What I look for in a possible book to read are three-dimensional characters, a strong plot, minimal typos, and fast pacing. I really don’t care about the sub-genre as long as it’s a good book.

Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?

I love Mr. Darcy and Lizzie from Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. They complement one another perfectly in the opposites attract kind of way.

What are you working on at the moment?

Nothing, unfortunately. I’m so busy promoting and marketing right not that I don’t have much time to write or edit.

What books will we see from you in coming months?

I have three books releasing this year. Forever Winter just came out two weeks ago on October 5th. A Hero’s Heart (another re-release) will be live on November 2nd, and the brand new Into The Fire box set will be hitting the digital shelves on December 14th. As you can tell, I have a couple busy months ahead of me.

Find out what Calla from Calla's Summer Fantasy wears to bed. Amber Daulton "bares" all @AmberDaulton1 #RLFblog #ContemporaryRomanceTwo men. One date. What’s a girl to do? Calla’s Summer Fantasy is about to come true. A contemporary romance by Amber Daulton.

Amber, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about Calla’s Summer Fantasy.

Calla’s Summer Fantasy by Amber Daulton

    Genre: Erotic Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): NC-17

Calla Lansky needs help at playing the field.

She scheduled two dates for the same night at her favorite seafood restaurant, and she owes her shocked boyfriends an explanation. To her surprise, Nathan Risley and Sam Tomlin handle the awkward situation like pros and happily agree to her ultimate fantasy: a ménage à trois.

After the hottest night of her life, Calla faces the ultimate decision.

Should she commit to the one man who secretly loved her all along, or keep her options open and indulge in her summer fantasy again and again?

Let’s bare it all and chat about what to wear

First, what is your name and how old are you?

Call me Calla, and I’m twenty-eight years old.

What is the time period in which you live?

It’s modern day. I live in Wilmington, North Carolina, and my apartment is way too far from the beach for my liking. God, I hate battling traffic just to splash in the water and roll around in the sand, but hey, a girl’s gotta sunbathe.

Considering the role you play in society, what is expected for you to wear?

I’m a bookkeeper at a law office, so I have more plaid and pencil skirts than I care to admit. And all the mauve and beige high-neck blouses—yuck. I mean, I know I have to look the part and dress professionally, but I would love to wear bright, flashy red to work just once—just once, mind you—but then I’d get chewed out by my boss, so nope. Not gonna happen. I’ve worked too hard to throw it away on some workplace fashion faux pas.

Ever required to wear something you don’t like? Tell us about it.

Well, it’s not like I don’t think some of my work clothes are pretty, but I’m so tired of them. On the weekends, though, is when I can finally cut loose and dress in wild colors and low necklines.

Do you make your own clothing?

Oh, I wish. My cousin, Melba, is the seamstress in the family.

When you wear something different, who’s the first person who notices?

Nathan. He’s always so attentive and respectful, unless we’re behind closed doors and he’s pulling my hair, but I digress.

Tell us your favorite thing to wear.

Colorful, flirty summer dresses. I love how the skirts sway and swish as I walk. I feel so feminine.

What kind of shoes or boots do you wear?

Sandals with rhinestone studs are to my go-to footwear for casual outings, but I love high heels and cute little suede boot-boots.

What do you wear to sleep?

If I’m sleeping alone, I’ll wear a T-shirt and be comfortable. If I’m with Nathan or Sam, it’s a toss-up. I’m either in my birthday suit or some flimsy scrap of lace or silk that might be ripped by morning. I never know with my guys.

Stressing Jeremiah Borden from Arresting Jeremiah by Amber Daulton @amberdaulton1 #RLFblog #RomanticSuspense

Introducing Calista Barlow from Arresting Jeremiah, by Amber Daulton @amberdaulton1 #RLFblog #RomanticSuspenseLove and danger come from all sides, in Arresting Jeremiah, a new novel by Amber Daulton. Calista Barlow falls in love with a man who isn’t as squeaky-clean as he appears. Let’s meet Calista. Welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about the story your author wrote.

    Arresting Jeremiah by Amber Daulton

    Genre: Romantic Suspense

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

Injured Parole Officer Jeremiah “Jim” Borden never expected Calista Barlow, the sassy blonde waitress he’s craved for months, to ring his doorbell. She slips into his heart—and his bed—but he’s obsessed with a gangland investigation that threatens his career and maybe even his life.

Calista doesn’t trust easily, not with a daughter to protect and the stalker who keeps calling her. After her violent ex-boyfriend returns, she finds solace in Jim’s arms.

Jim may have to forego his need for answers to protect the ready-made family he adores, but how will he and Calista escape an unseen enemy that is always one step ahead of them?

    Stressing Jeremiah “Jim” Borden

Every hero has a story. He has a background, a history, and a past. This interview allows us to meet a hero and get to know him better, by focusing on how he handles being relaxed, as well as how he handles stress.

Please tell me about your hero.

    Age: 30

    Gender: Male

    Birthplace: Denver, Colorado

    Profession: Parole Officer

    Ethnicity: White

What does your hero look like?

Jim has short dark-blond hair, a body to die for, and he tops out at 6 feet, 3 inches tall. Yum!

Who is the significant other in his life?

Calista Barlow. He’s been lusting after her for nearly a year but never made a move. How could he? His job and all the crap he has to deal takes up every aspect of his life. It shapes his choices and actions. He wants to keep Calista and her daughter safe, so he keeps a respectful distance from them. But then Cali purses him, and all bets are off.

    The Hero’s Relaxed Side

This hero is at a party. Considering his story, describe the party.

Jim doesn’t do big parties, but if it’s only a small group of people, he’s okay with it.

How does the hero feel about being at this particular party, and what body language is he displaying that gives it away?

He’ll hang out with his buddies and make small talk with everyone else, but he’ll want to leave as soon as possible. Once he can finally get away for a breather, he’ll lean against the wall with his arms crossed and watch everyone around him. He’ll analyze and make mental notes about the people he sees and what they’re doing.

If he drinks, what is his drink of choice at this party?

Whiskey or vodka, but he won’t drink much. He likes to keep his wits about him.

The hero figures out where the hiding places are and then goes there. Is it to hide, to avoid someone, or to go drag a friend back to the party?

To hide, definitely, and he’ll bring Calista into the hiding place as well. He’s not above making out with her in a public place. In fact, the possibility of getting caught turns them both on.

Is he likely to latch onto a friend and stay with him/her and ignore others, or is he the friend that others latch onto?

He’s the guy others latch on to, even if he doesn’t want to be “that guy.” He exudes an air of confidence that puts some people at ease and others on edge.

If someone picked a fight at this party, how is the hero going to handle it?

Jim will be the first one to jump in and tear the guys apart. He’ll even punch one or both of them to get their attention, if need be. If it’s women fighting, he’ll still break up the fight, but he won’t lay an ill hand on either of them. Hurting women is a big no-no to him, and any man who does it needs to take a long stay in a body bag. Jim’s words, not mine.

Is the hero the one most likely to get tossed out of the party, or the one who does the tossing?

Oh, he’ll be doing the tossing. Jim is too clean-cut to start a fight, but he damn well knows how to finish them.

    The Hero’s Stressed Out Side

How does the hero handle it if the cops or some other authority figure pulls him aside when he was blameless in a situation?

Since Jim is an authority figure himself, he’ll remain calm and explain the situation. If he’s accused of something or if the cop is overly confrontational, he’ll probably lose his temper and get into trouble.

How does the hero react to hearing a scream?

He’ll race right into possible danger to find out what’s going on. His first instinct is to help.

If he sees someone being assaulted, what is the FIRST thing that crosses his mind?

To help that person. This actually happens in the course of his book, Arresting Jeremiah. After Jim witnesses a group of gangbangers assaulting a homeless man, he tells Calista to call the police, then he goes right up to the attackers and calls them out. That takes balls, let me tell you.

This hero attempts to rescue someone and realizes that he is in over his head. The odds are against him and there is no way out. He is going to get his butt handed to him. What does he do?

When he goes up against Calista’s ex, Byron, Jim knows he can’t win, not with his broken arm in a cast. He still tackles the prick and fights tooth and nail to protect her. He takes every punch and kick as stoically as possible. Then Calista comes to his rescue. Thank goodness for her trusty wooden bat.

The hero runs into the one person from his past he wanted to avoid. He can’t get out of the situation and must interact in some way. What does he do?

The cool, calm facade he presents to the world shoots right up like a brick wall. He forces a polite smile, takes any insults in stride, but he’ll snap if pushed too far.

Someone younger than the hero is in charge of the situation, and they are handling it badly, perhaps bungling things. How does the hero deal with it?

He’ll offer advice, but he won’t butt in. He knows what it’s like to be humiliated by someone older or more important, so he’ll let the rookie learn from his own mistakes.

The hero is in physical pain but must bear up under it and keep going. What does he tell himself in order to get through the situation?

Jim has a broken arm throughout the majority of his story, but that doesn’t stop him from getting into fights. He’s often covered in bruises, but he grits his teeth and struggles through it. He thinks of Calista, her daughter Lacey, and his sister Mia—the people he loves and wants to protect—and he’s capable of anything. He’ll bear any pain if it means protecting his family.

Read the series: Arresting Onyx by Amber Daulton @amberdaulton1 #RLFblog #RomanticSuspense

In the world of Onyx, take nothing for granted. Amber Daulton’s gritty romantic suspense series, Arresting Onyx, will draw you deep into the dangers and desires of seven couples determined to survive. Amber, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your series.

    Arresting Mason by Amber Daulton

    Genre Romantic Suspense

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

Once you’re in a prison gang, you’re in it for life. That’s what Mason Harding thought until the boss accepted his resignation. After the State releases him on parole, a sexy divorcée behind the wheel of a car almost ends his life quicker than a shank. His chance encounter with Mia Eddison results in a night of passion, but her brother—his parole officer—catches them together and doesn’t approve.

Mia falls hard for the cocky ex-con, but not because of his chiseled body. She vows to break through his walls and discover his secrets, but never expects those secrets to threaten her life.

When members of an organized crime ring kidnap Mia to force Mason’s return to the gang, he goes up against an old friend to save the woman he loves. Will his sacrifice be enough or will everything fall apart in a blaze of gunfire?

Which book is this in the series?

This is book one in the gritty urban romantic suspense series, Arresting Onyx.

How many books do you plan for the series?

There will be five full-length novels and two novellas.

    How many books are completed?

All the books are completed, but the later ones are awaiting professional editing and publication. I plan to publish them a few months apart from each other starting this winter.

What characters are the main stars in your series?

Each book features a new main couple. All the couples are connected through blood, friendship, and circumstance.

Mia and Mason star in Arresting Mason, and her brother, Jim, is the hero in the second book, Arresting Jeremiah. Mia’s friend, Chanel, stars in the novella, Ryan’s Temptation, which will be coming out soon.

What is the overall theme in this series?

The gang Onyx controls the drug flow in the city, and each couple must contend with and survive their detour into the criminal underworld. Some of the couples, however, plunge headfirst into danger while others just graze the surface. That doesn’t matter to the villains they butt heads with. To the bad guys, everyone not on their side needs to be silenced, permanently.

Please list the series titles below, in any order you prefer.

    Arresting Mason (novel, now available)
    Arresting Jeremiah (novel, now available)
Ryan’s Temptation (novella, To Be Released in December 2021 via the “Into the Fire” box set)
    Arresting Benjamin (novel, TBR)
Trevor’s Redemption (tentatively titled novella, TBR)
    Arresting Alan (novel, TBR)
    Arresting Bristol (novel, TBR)

What did you like best about writing this series?

The camaraderie between the characters, especially the men and their bromances. Each book introduced a pair of flawed, three-dimensional heroes and heroines who I sometimes think of as real people. To me, they are real because I’ve worked with them and talked with them for so long. I’ve been writing, editing, tearing apart, and rewriting this series since 2013, so I’m more than familiar with the characters and all their little nuances.

What other books (not in this series, have you written?)

I’ve written several standalone novellas, including Lyrical Embrace and Harmony’s Embrace, which can be found in the multi-author published Deerbourne Inn series.

Where can we find links for all your books?

I’m in pretty good shape even though I spend a lot of time in a desk chair, but good genes and luck won’t last forever. I’ve made a New Year’s resolution to go skiing at least once a week—okay, maybe once a month—this winter season to stay healthy. I’m just so busy at work, but hopefully, since I’ve finally hired a bookkeeper to help me out, I’ll be able to loosen up and get more activity.

Please tell us a little about yourself.

I play a mean saxophone. It’s my go-to instrument for when I need to relax, and I prefer jazz to any other kind of music. There’s just something about the deep riffs that really mellows me out. I also teach the instrument and several others to a group of kids who attend my family’s music school. Every time the students succeed, I feel a sense of accomplishment. I’m so proud of them.

I’m also the father to two wonderful kids, Andy and Kay. They’re my whole life. Everything I do, I do with their happiness, well-being, and future in mind. Without them, I wouldn’t be who I am. And who am I? I’m just a man who wants to give his kids a good life and enjoy some great music while I’m at it.

Who is the significant other in your life?

Harmony Holdich. I’ve been in love with her since we were kids, but a stupid fight when we were teenagers broke us up for thirteen long years. Even though I’m grateful I met my now ex-wife—I wouldn’t have my kids without her—I wish Harmony and I would’ve made amends sooner than we did.

Before she came back home to Willow Springs, she’d been living in Miami with her emotionally abusive husband. The hell she went through made her stronger. She’s definitely one of the strongest women I’ve ever met, right up there with my mom. I’m a lucky man to have Harmony back in my life.

If you haven’t made a bucket list before, perhaps now would be a good time. Who knows? It might inspire another book. While you’re at it, how about telling us about some of your other favorite things? Here are the questions.

    What is your birth order?

I’m the oldest of three children. My sister, Ruby, is two years younger, and my brother, Dylan, is five years. I’ve always been the responsible one, always looking out for my wild siblings and making my parents proud. To be honest, I’m getting pretty tired of it.

Tell us about your favorite toy as a child.

I’m not sure I ever really had one. As soon as I learned to play the sax, I always had one in my hands. Action figures, plastic swords, video games…whatever, none of that stuff meant as much to me as the sax.

Describe your favorite food and how it’s prepared.

I’ll eat about anything, but Mom’s meat loaf is the best ever. She caramelizes the onion and other vegetables with the ground beef, and it just tastes freakin’ fantastic, especially with a huge dollop of ketchup.

Tell us about your best friend.

That’s Harmony. We’d been through so much together as kids—we met in kindergarten—and then more as adults. She understands me in ways no one else ever has. We finish each other’s sentences, and when faced with a problem, we usually think of the same answer at the same time. We’re in sync. But we weren’t always like this. Back when she still intended to move across the country and start her life over, I was racking my brain in ways to keep her around. I’m so relieved my efforts paid off.

What place would you like to visit before you die, and why?

Chicago, to see all the old jazz haunts from the 1950s and ’60s. Talk about a blast from the past. I’d be in seventh heaven surrounded by all that history and culture.

Who is someone you would like to meet, and why?

Miles Davis is my favorite musician. I’d love to treat him to lunch, pick his brain about music, and then have a jam session together. A dream come true!

Who is someone you would like to avoid, and why?

My ex-wife, Susannah. Hands down. After the crap she pulled the last time she stopped by, I could go the rest of my life never seeing her again, and it would still be too soon.

If you could time travel to any date, what would it be, and what would you do there?

I’d go to Chicago to meet Miles Davis back in his heyday. Harmony’s favorite jazz musician is John Coltrane, so I’d be taking her with me, and we’d have to visit John as well.

    About Amber Daulton

I love reading romance books, and I write in various romance sub-genres because I can’t choose just one. That’s like choosing only one flavor of ice cream to eat for the rest of your life. Not possible. My favorite genres include: contemporary, romantic suspense, historical, time travel, and paranormal, though my paranormal books aren’t published yet.

What was your biggest challenge in writing this book?

Learning all the instrument and music lingo. I don’t play an instrument, though I would love to, so I had to learn all these phrases, words, parts of an instrument, keys and tones, and a bunch of stuff that was so confusing to me because I’ve never experienced it firsthand. The research I did to make this story and the characters sound believable was intense. I just hope readers will think I did the subject matter justice.

Why did you choose this character for the interview today?

I absolutely adore Birley. He’s a bit stodgy, but he’s a good man with a big heart. He’s been hurt, which is why he hides behind his professional, uptight wall, but I chose to let him speak today so he could spread his wings and relax a little. Harmony is the outgoing talker of their duo, so it was high-time Birley take the reins and speak his mind.

Are any sequels planned for this book?

This book is actually the sequel to another one, Lyrical Embrace, which features Birley’s brother, Dylan. Both books are standalones in the multi-author published series, the Deerbourne Inn. While there will be more books in the series from other authors, Harmony’s Embrace concludes my contribution to this sexy and sweet small town series.

What genre(s) would you like to write that you haven’t tried yet?

Sci/Fi. I have a few ideas, but no time to write them out. My writing schedule is full for the next few years.
