The Summer of Sorrow and Dance by Liz Flaherty @LizFlaherty1 #RLFblog #ContemporaryRomanceDinah and Zach are making their way through life’s changes in The Summer of Sorrow and Dance, Liz Flaherty’s latest contemporary romance. Can they find room for each other in the places created by his new job and her empty nest?

Liz, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your book.

The Summer of Sorrow and Dance by Liz Flaherty

    Genre Contemporary

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG

In the midst of a summer of change, they’re both searching for an anchor.

Dinah is a mom, a giver, and a doer, so she’s used to change, but this summer is kind of overdoing that. The diner where she’s worked for half her life is closing, her college-age kids aren’t coming home for the summer, and a property on nearby Cooper Lake is calling her name, bringing long-held dreams of owning a B & B to the fore. Newcomer Zach Applegate is entering into her dreams, too.

Divorced dad, contractor, and recovering alcoholic Zach is in Fallen Soldier, Pennsylvania, to visit his brother and to decide what’s coming next in his life. He doesn’t like change much, yet it seems to be everywhere. But he finds an affinity for remodeling and restoration, is overjoyed when his teenage sons join him for the summer, and he likes Dinah Tyler, too. A lot.

Dinah and Zach each experience sorrow and tumult, but go on to dance in the kitchen. Together, they have something, but is it enough?

What’s your favorite down-home family style meal?

Oh, my very favorite is either chicken or beef and noodles (homestyle) with mashed potatoes made from real potatoes and lots of butter, corn (also with butter, and dinner rolls or biscuits. Yes, with with butter. If I haven’t had a heart attack by that point, I like ice cream for dessert. Lite ice cream, of course—I wouldn’t want to overdo.

Tell us about your favorite toy as a child.

It wasn’t a toy. It was a book. I read Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women until the covers literally wore off and I had to glue heavy cardboard to the front and back to keep the pages together. I couldn’t read the last page anymore, but that was okay—I knew what it said. The book changed my life. I have to wonder if Liz Flaherty, the writer, would ever have come to life if I hadn’t known Jo March.

    What are your hobbies?

I sew. I used to make clothes, but sewing a few weddings did me in on that, so now I make quilts and tchotchke things like potholders and coasters because it’s relaxing and I love the way colors and patterns go together. Sometimes they’re awful, but even that’s fun.

When you read for pleasure, what kind of books do you choose?

Ones from auto-buy authors. I hate to admit to being so un-adventurous in my dotage, but I am. I jump at every new release by Nan Reinhardt, Mary Balogh, Kristan Higgins, Beth Carpenter, and some others. I also re-read old favorites. I think I could recite some of my favorites by Kathleen Gilles Seidel and Cheryl Reavis because I’ve read them so often!

What kinds of things do you read when you’re researching a new book?

I read news stories about places and events near the setting I’ve chosen. I usually write about fictional places, but people will still recognize where they are because of things mentioned. For example, Fallen Soldier, Pennsylvania, the setting for the Second Chances series, is a town that’s real only in my imagination, but the places around it–Altoona, Horseshoe Curve, and a few others are very real. I spent part of the summer there when I was 13 and have never forgotten it.

The Courage of a Lyon by Linda Rae Sande @lindaraesa #RLFblog #HistoricalRomanceTheir earldom is at stake. Can they save their futures and find love along the way? Brimming with turbulent passion and steeped in the gorgeous and regal setting of 19th-century British aristocracy, The Courage of a Lyon is a delightful and whimsical historical romance novel by bestselling author Linda Rae Sande.

Linda Rae, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your book.

The Courage of a Lyon by Linda Rae Sande

    Genre Historical romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

Recovering from his wartime injuries and returning home to an earldom on the brink of bankruptcy, Captain Charles Audley is faced with the momentous task of settling his mischievous brother’s debts. But try as he might, he can’t take his mind off the angel of a nurse who cared for him on the battlefield. And after he crosses paths with an enigmatic matchmaker with a strange proposition, it quickly becomes clear that he might not have seen the last of his wartime beauty.

Meanwhile, James heads to Cambridgeshire, dead-set on winning the hand – and the hefty dowry – of a marquess’ daughter. But when he discovers her already taken, he finds his eye drawn to her rebellious and fiercely independent younger sister. James can’t bear the thought of returning home empty-handed… and although Lady Eloise is convinced he’s only interested in courting her sister, an attraction begins to bubble to the surface that leaves her questioning James’ true intentions.

With their earldom at stake and two young women desperate for men who can understand their deepest desires, can Charles and James find real love? And will the cunning talents of matchmaker Mrs. Dove-Lyon come to the rescue?

    Describe the perfect vacation.

At least two weeks in Greece, visiting an island or two (or more!) while taking tours of archaeological sites. I’ve been three times and will go back next year.

Tell us about your favorite toy as a child.

My Kissy doll! I “adopted” her on my fifth birthday, and I still have her. When you pull her arms together, her lips purse and she makes a smacking sound. She turned out to be an appropriate doll for a future historical romance author.

    What are your hobbies?

Besides travel and going to the movies, I really enjoy painting with water colors. Because I spend so much time in the writing cave, I don’t paint as often as I’d like.

When you read for pleasure, what kind of books do you choose?

Historical romances are my go-to when reading for pleasure. I especially enjoy the ancient Greek and Roman stories but I end up reading more Regencies due to their availability.

What kinds of things do you read when you’re researching a new book?

I’m one of those who gets lost in the rabbit roles of research. I’ll start with a Google search, and depending on what resources pop up, I’ll be sourcing dictionaries, reading old books available through Google Books, websites listing British aristocracy families, government records and memoirs. I also reference genealogical maps from my era to ensure the proper place names and locations for villages, roads, and county lines.

Read the new Hometown Girl, a sweet novella by Cheryl St.John @_cherylstjohn_ #RLFblog #Contemporary #RomanceRodeo champion Justin Cooper’s reappearance reminds Stevie Marshall of how her life could have been in this sweet contemporary novella by USA Today bestselling author, Cheryl St.John. It is worth the risk of losing him again to capture a few weeks of happiness?

Cheryl, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your book.

    Hometown Girl by Cheryl St.John

    Genre contemporary romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): sweet (G)

Small-town life was never enough for rodeo champion, Justin Cooper, but when he returns to Oklahoma to recover from an injury, Stevie Marshall is still rooted to the community, still doesn’t share his passion for adventure and still takes his breath away.

Resistant to change, Stevie has never fallen in love with another, and she’s not about to fall for this handsome cowboy all over again. Her heart has taken too much of a beating to make the same mistake twice. This life wasn’t good enough for him last time.

Justin thought he’d rather fall off a bucking bull than face his feelings, but their close proximity challenges his thinking. Prize money and belt buckles won’t stack up to a life with the hometown girl he loves. This go-round the cowboy will hang on tight.

Tell us about your favorite toy as a child.

My Barbies were my favorite toys, and I played with them until I was twelve years old. Barbie, Ken and Midge were a family, and they even had children. I saved up my allowance to buy them clothes and furniture. When my cousin came from out of town, she brought her dolls, and we covered my grandma’s entire bedroom with their rooms and played out adventures.

I still collect Barbies, Disney characters and other fashion-size dolls, in fact I recently thinned out the curio in my office, dressed them properly, fixed their hair and placed them on stands where I enjoy seeing them.

    What are your hobbies?

I enjoy reading, of course. I’ve always loved antique and flea-market shopping. I enjoy painting and decorating, and my husband and I upcycle furniture. We both shop for the pieces, I choose and buy the paint, etc., and he does the work. We recently traveled 200 miles of garage and yard sales in Nebraska with my daughter and son-in-law. Now that’s fun!

When you read for pleasure, what kind of books do you choose?

I fall back on Americana or western historicals, which are among my favorites, but I also enjoy westerns, Stephen King, biographies and research books.

What kinds of things do you read when you’re researching a new book?

I’ve read a good many journals over the years, research papers, books on whatever subject I’m writing about.

If the hero of your latest book called you on the phone, what would be a perfect ringtone for him?

I create a playlist for each of my books, so I had to choose only one:
