Bernadette Jones Social Media

Bernadette Jones has been making up stories since she learned to read on her daddy’s lap. She has imagined casts of characters everywhere she’s called home: Texas, Oregon, South Dakota, Nebraska, Illinois, Massachusetts, and now New York.
Books and music filled her life as she, her dad and two brothers traveled the country. She would sit in the back seat of the car (her older brother always got to ride shotgun), listening to the current music on the radio, looking out the window and spinning a story based on a phrase or word she’d heard in the lyrics. As you can imagine, traveling the country the music changed from state to state, as did the stories. To this day she loves all genres of music, and books.
Ask her what song triggered the very first story that she can remember imagining. And yes, even at a very, very, early age she was writing romance.
After a career in corporate writing, she’s finally decided to settled down and put pen to paper doing what she loves. Living the dream in her NYC apartment with her canine companion, she’s bringing her stories and characters to life.

Read the new Dancing in the Dark by Cheryl St John @_cherylstjohn_ #RLFblog #romanceCheryl, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your book.

Dancing in the Dark by Cheryl St John

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG

He’d had his own baby. Without her.

Dusty Cavanaugh has loved Kendra Price since she walked into the school cafeteria and captured a dozen boyish hearts with the sweep of her stormy gray-green gaze and the lift of her chin. College, marriage, and children had been the plan. But then Dusty made a mistake.

Kendra Price had never wanted to be rich, but she’d wanted to be comfortable, which she was. She’d never wanted to be famous, but to live her passion to the fullest and dance, which she did. She’d wanted to marry Dusty, have babies and live happily ever after. It would never happen.

She’d wanted to dance, get married and have babies…all she had left was dance.
He had everything a man could want–except her forgiveness…

There had been no road map for life apart. Will love be enough to guide them back?

Describe the perfect vacation.

My favorite vacation isn’t likely to be everyone’s cup of tea. I don’t want to go to Disneyworld or on a cruise or relax on a beach. I simply love to head out with a very loose itinerary and a final destination, such as a tulip festival or a flea market. Thankfully my husband and I agree, so we don’t stress over a schedule. He loves museums and old architecture and I like to visit historic homes. When we spot a sign indicating an antique store, we veer that direction and browse for hours. Ideally, I’d have a large enough vehicle to shop and haul the purchases home. I’m a collector, so finding something I’ve been searching for is a thrill. Recently I found an original set of Trixie Belden paper dolls.

Tell us about your favorite toy as a child.

As a child, I loved paper dolls. I had several purchased sets, plus I drew and cut additional clothes for their wardrobes. I cut all the babies and children from Sears catalogs, so my paper doll couples had children. When my cousin and I got together and combined dolls, we created houses that took over entire rooms, and we dreamed up scenarios for our paper characters. It was a fantasyland I fully embraced. No wonder I became a writer—I still make up stories and fictional scenarios.

What are your hobbies?

My husband and I used to upcycle furniture and items for ourselves, and now we upcycle to sell. It’s part business and part enjoyment for me to find items and choose colors and hardware. He does the labor, and then I sell the finished products. We keep a photo album of all our before and after projects.

I read a lot. I love to bake. I dabble at crafts. It’s taken me years to accept that gathering items for crafts and actually doing the crafts are two different hobbies.

What kinds of things do you read when you’re researching a new book?

I start a three-ring binder for each book, and part of its content is research material. I’m still a paper person. I like to read and highlight and flag and have information at hand, so I print what I’m going to need later. I read about occupations and everything involved in a character’s job. Then I find articles or books about people with the same job and, if possible, find someone to interview.

I study up on the things my character likes to do and their interests. I read about the location and its history. Quite often I research situations, and I find information about factual people and circumstances. Most recently I’ve done a lot of research on child kidnapping survivors and the psychological effects of having been a kidnapping victim.

I also try to read a new author or recent popular fiction, but nothing with the same subject matter, because I want to be inspired, not influenced. However, I never let researching take the place of productivity. If I’m not producing pages, I’m only stalling, so I write—and research as I go.

If the hero of your latest book called you on the phone, what would be a perfect ringtone for him?

Perfect by Ed Sheeran. The line “Baby, I’m dancing in the dark, with you between my arms” was the inspiration for my title. I create a playlist for each new book. I don’t listen while I’m writing—I need quiet to write—but I listen often and add or remove songs as I’m moved to do so. The song plays a part in the book, so it will always remind me of Dusty and Kendra.

Read the Space Opera Origin of Pietas: Bringer of Chaos by Kayelle Allen #RLFblog #SciFiAs the host of this blog, occasionally it becomes my turn to be welcomed as an author. Instead, this time I’ll introduce Pietas, the hero of Origin of Pietas and let him answer the questions.

Pietas, what’s your favorite down-home family style meal?

I like fish, cooked over an open fire. There is nothing else like it.

What is your go-to meal when you dine out?

I have a close friend who never seems to want anything but steak. When I pick a place to eat, it’s usually fast and easy. I dislike being in restaurants alone.

Describe the perfect vacation.

A day spent walking on the beach or hiking in the hills. I love the solitude and majesty of nature.

Tell us about your favorite toy as a child.

My twin sister and I were not permitted toys, but we each had an item that we kept hidden. Oddly enough, I can remember hers, but not mine. Hers was a bundle of old cloths that she had bound with string to form a doll. When we had rare free time, I would stand watch while she played “mommy”. Which is ludicrous, really. We never had much of a mommy, and as for a daddy — well, he was the reason I stood watch.

When you read for pleasure, what kind of books do you choose?

I find poetry uplifting and soothing. I have lived enough drama and action in my real life. I don’t want to read about that of others.

Where to buy Origin of Pietas: Bringer of Chaos

Exiled to a barren world, the immortal king Pietas must learn to humble himself and ask for help–politely. Without assistance, he might spend an eternity alone, never finding the people he has already died over a thousand times to save.
The problem is, the only source of aid is a human, the very one who caused his exile in the first place.

Read the new SciFi Romance Flynn's Assassin by NJ Walters @njwaltersauthor #RLFblog #SciFi #RomanceNJ Walters, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your book.

Flynn’s Assassin by NJ Walters

Genre Science Fiction Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

When mercenary and space trader Flynn Marks is approached by a woman in a seedy bar, he assumes she’s not just looking for a good time. He’s made enemies over the course of his life. With his family finally safe and settled, he’ll handle this latest threat on his own.

Cerena Phelps has been tasked with killing a man if she ever wants to see her teenage son again. While she’s no stranger to fights–being a woman bouncer is a tough job–she’s never killed a man. Her plan? Lure Flynn away from the bar, seduce him, and kill him when his guard is down. Not a hardship given her unexpected and intense sexual attraction for her target. When her attempt on Flynn’s life fails, they must learn to trust each other if they both hope to survive and rescue her son.

Describe the perfect vacation.

I love the beach! And not a sandy, sunny beach, but a rocky one filled with shells, driftwood, and treasures washed up by the waves. I have a small collection of beach glass I’ve gathered over the years. I love interesting rocks and shells. After a day beachcombing, I’d love to sit around a campfire and watch the night sky. And on bad weather days, I’d curl up with a good book or two.

What are your hobbies?

I love to read. No surprise there. I also enjoy going to movies. I’ll see over thirty a year in the theatre. I enjoy going to the afternoon shows when it’s quieter. I love a good yard sale or thrift store. It’s the search for that next “treasure.” Not necessarily anything worth money, but something I’ll love.

When you read for pleasure, what kind of books do you choose?

I read a lot of romance over different genres–contemporary, paranormal, futuristic, historical, suspense. It all depends on my mood. I like to mix it up. I also read nonfiction, some work related, but much of it is spiritual and personal growth books.

What kinds of things do you read when you’re researching a new book?

That always depends on what I’m writing. Sometimes I’ll read nonfiction books to learn more about a place or a skill. I’ve used maps and guide books to become better acquainted with other counties and settings. I’ve used Google Maps to “walk” the streets of a city where I set a book. I’ve watched many YouTube videos. You can find almost anything you need online.

For example, when I wanted to research the Trans-Siberian Railway I viewed many YouTube videos posted by people who took the train trip. I wanted to see what the trains looked like and how they were broken down by class. I also bought a Russian guidebook (much like the one the heroine uses in the book) for language and travel information. I used all that information and more in Drakon’s Tear.

In a book like Flynn’s Assassin, which is futuristic, much of it came from my imagination. I have to be careful when creating worlds to stay consistent. It’s so much fun but a lot of work as I have to make notes about everything.

If the hero of your latest book called you on the phone, what would be a perfect ringtone for him?

Flynn Marks is a dangerous space mercenary, so his ringtone would have to be badass. I’m thinking “Wrong Side of Heaven” by Five Finger Death Punch.

Read The Chieftain’s Secret by Mageela Troche @MageelaTroche #RLFblog #HistoricalRomanceMageela Troche, welcome to Romance Lives Forever. I’m Kayelle Allen, author and owner of this blog. Happy to have you here! Please tell us about your book.

The Chieftain’s Secret by Mageela Troche

Genre Historical Romance

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R

On a windswept Scottish Isle…

Many objects wash up on the shores of the rugged Isle of Mull. The Laird of Lochbuie never expected a pregnant wife to be included in that. Honorable Niall MacLean was wed to his childhood love when she died in childbirth. Now a widower, he struggles to get beyond his grief. Then a dear friend, Ermina Bruce pleaded for his help. His protective instinct came alive and he handfasted with Ermina to save her from an unsuitable marriage and one drunken night has led to forever after and a repeat of his past heartbreak.

The bonds of friendship…

Noble Ermina Bruce has loved Niall MacLean since he first fostered in her uncle’s home. But he loved another so she settled for the deep bonds of friendship. When her family arranged a marriage she didn’t want she knew Niall could save her from that miserable fate.

One night of passion…

That one night in Niall’s arms led to her pregnancy. Ermina has not told Niall of their secret baby. But his reaction isn’t her greatest fear. Her fear is even greater than the brave laird’s wrath. Every woman in her family has died in childbirth and all know the same fate awaits her. Once again, Ermina knows Niall is the only one who can save her. And if he fails, her last days shall be with the man she has loved since childhood.

Will love have a chance to come alive?

What is your go-to meal when you dine out?

I love pizza. Nothing in this whole world is as perfect as pizza.

Describe the perfect vacation.

I’m dying to travel to Rome. Pizza, history and art—that sounds like perfection to me.

Tell us about your favorite toy as a child.

My favorite toys were my crayons. They had to be the 64 Crayola crayons. You couldn’t rip off the paper or press too hard. And if the point broke I had to get a whole new box. One time when I lived in Florida, I wanted my crayons to get some sun and put them in the window. Of course, they melted. I cried and wailed until I got a new box.

When you read for pleasure, what kind of books do you choose?

I love reading. Of course, I read romance. But I love history and historical biographies. I also love mysteries. I hate reading anything that has a sad ending so I rarely read literary novels. I don’t want to be rooting for a character for them to die at the end. Real life has enough hardships and I don’t want to deal with that in book.

What kinds of things do you read when you’re researching a new book?

Since I write highlander historical romance, I read a lot of historical sources, primary and secondary. I also read biographies as well as academic papers.
