It’s late, he’s bored. What does he do?

“I’m never bored,” insists Captain Gilroy. “If the navy does not have orders enough to keep me occupied, the sea is endlessly demanding.”

What kind of food would he impulse buy if hungry?

“What type of food I purchase is unimportant. I would buy the most economical option, since I would be spending the king’s coin and not my own.”

Describe the kind of clothes he prefers to wear.

“If I cannot be in uniform—which will happen all too soon—I prefer the comfortable clothing of a country gentleman.”

Does he know how to fix things?

“A sailor, regardless of rank, must know how to make repairs with ingenuity, as supplies are often scarce.”

“It embarrasses me to confess, that I was once defeated in battle by a female pirate. I can only blame youth and inexperience. I was a raw lieutenant at the time.”

What is he like first thing in the morning?

“As long as I get my breakfast promptly, I am quite civil in the mornings.”

How does he handle things when in a “proper” social situation?

“Any naval officer would conduct himself with the utmost propriety. Afterall we represent the King.”

Valet or takes care of himself?

“I find valets a nuisance.”

Necktie/cravat or open shirt?

“Open shirt? In uniform? Never!”

Powdered wig or natural hair?

“Wigs and powder are the very devil of a nuisance at sea. On land, I would wear such only when ordered to.”

Carriage or horseback?

“Ship of course. On land horseback is my preference. Carriages are only for necessity.”

Award winning author, Rue Allyn, learned story telling at her grandfather’s knee. (Well it was really more like on his knee–I was two.) She’s been weaving her own tales ever since. She has worked as an instructor, mother, sailor, clerk, sales associate, and painter, along with a variety of other types of employment. She has lived and traveled in places all over the globe from Keflavik Iceland (I did not care much for the long nights of winter.) and Fairbanks Alaska to Panama City and the streets of London England to a large number of places in between. Now that her two sons have left the nest, Rue and her husband of more than four decades (Try living with the same person for more than forty years–that’s a true adventure.) have retired and moved south. When not writing, enjoying the nearby beach or working jigsaw puzzles, Rue travels the world and surfs the internet in search of background material and inspiration for her next heart melting romance.. She loves to hear from readers.
