Be sure to read What is RLF? Romance Lives Forever and discover great new opportunities for authors and readers.
Top Blogger for this month is NJ Walters. Top Blogger of 2017 was Vicki Batman, who won a year of free advertising for 2018.
Top Blogger NJ Walters
The top bloggers are judged by page visits. Congratulations!
Other authors in order by page visits are:
Linda Rae Sande and Veronica ScottHonorable Mention: Lyndell Williams and Laura Strickland.
Top Blogger of 2018: Brenda Sparks
As I looked at this list of names, I wondered if people would think I was only giving out this award to friends. That’s true, partially. Each has become a friend over the last year or has been for a long time. Hosting this site gives me a unique opportunity to get to know many authors. But the statistics speak for themselves. When I pulled year long stats from the backside of the blog, these were the names that floated to the top.
Brenda Sparks made the list as top blogger due to having the most page views throughout the entire year. She also promoted the blog itself. I was tickled when I looked at the stats and saw her name right at the top, because in my mind, she certainly deserved the appause. Please do visit her post and check out her book, Alpha Pair. Brenda wins a year of cover ads on RLF.

Top Blog Posts of 2018
Below are the titles and links to the top ten posts of the year. There are some interesting statistics I’d like to point out.
Of these, two were from the Cancer Awareness series (Vicki Batman and Iris Blobel). Four were paranormal romance. Four were historical. Two fantasy, and two were LGBT. If these don’t add up to ten it’s because some posts covered more than one genre. I invite you to click and visit each of these. They will be well worth your time.

Top Chatters for 2018
The person who gets the most comments is not always the person who gets the most page views. For that reason, I instituted the Top Chatter Award. This award is for the bloggers who receive the most comments.
This year’s winner is Vicki Batman. This is not a surprise. Every time Vicki visits RLF she takes home either the top blogger or top chatter award and she was last year’s recipent of top blogger of the year.

Other top chatters were Sheri Humphries, Alina K Field, Linda O’Connor, and Paula Millhouse.

Vicki Batman #NoQuit Last Year was Tough. This Year was Tougher @vickibatman #RLFblog
Last year, Kayelle asked me to write about Handsome’s cancer journey. (Here’s the link to the post.) I had to end with not-so great news: he would have to have a second go. This time:
9 surgeries
16 days in the hospital
6 weeks living in Houston
More months to recuperate
1 tongue that won’t work
1 gastro feeding tubeBecause Handsome’s first flap surgery a year ago in July (removing right fibula and creating a left jaw bone) wasn’t successful, our doctors suggested we go to M. D. Anderson in Houston, Texas. Our journey began in November when we visited the doctor who was known world-wide for his reconstructive plastic surgery.
The doctor told us the surgery was the same, utilizing the left fibula, that he would be very careful, and the recovery would be hard, but eventually, Handsome would get through it. We had no choice. Every movement caused the temporary titanium plate to jam into his T M Joint. He could hardly eat and talk. If Handsome wanted to resume having a life like everyone else, he had to have the surgery.
On February 25th, we left behind work, home life, and our adora-poos in the hands of family and friends. The biggest thing we carried with us was hope.
Handsome’s surgery began at five-thirty in the morning. He was prepped, procedures signed off, and wheeled away. That was when my heart lodged in my throat as I prayed for the most superior outcome for him. A nurse escorted me to the waiting room to be updated via monitor. #2 son and my sister joined me as did friends. We talked and were kept informed. However, the day went long, and by six in the evening, I sent them on.
Exactly until twelve-thirty A.M. long. The doctor came out and told me he was pleased and guarded (that the transplant would be successful), and rightfully so. I stayed in the waiting room until one-thirty, long past the cleaning people. The only light burning was the lamp on the side table. My eyes were dry. My head hurt. I could barely do anything. Finally, the recovery nurse escorted exhausted me to him. He’d had: the fibula flap, two donor grafts, one artery graft. Handsome was barely aware as I kissed him and said I would see him the next morning.
The next day, I looked at his surgical sites. I saw the feeding tube, the tracheostomy, and the swelling. The raw graft on his neck. The myriad of stitches all over his body. I thought “aw shit, not again.” Definitely, a long haul.
We communicated by paper; sometimes, a wink and a smile. When he choked, the nurses suctioned his trach. (BTW-a shout-out to those amazing people). Staph infections brought surgical washouts along with massive doses of antibiotics and anti-fungal meds.
At day fifteen, we were discharged to the apartment we’d rented. The hospital nurse tutored us in clearing the trach, cleaning wounds, dispensing meds (including a daily heparin shot), and feeding.
With skilled help, eventually, we began to cope. He took short walks and slept a lot. Strength returned in small increments. As he improved, the trach was removed, and the nasal tube switched to a gastro tube because his tongue was unresponsive. Finally, we were able to go home.
We’ve been at home since the second week of April. Occasionally, we go to Houston for check-ups. The titanium plate had to be re-screwed, and the gastro tube replaced. Physically, he has responded well. He is able to swallow a tiny bit of water. His most recent test showed significant tongue strength. His legs have recovered. His posture improved. The flap is perfect.
They say cancer can be the gift that keeps giving. God, I hope no more for my handsome man. We want to travel more. He wants to eat a great steak. He wants to give inspiring talks to college kids and travel for other speaking engagements.
We have no idea how Handsome got throat cancer. Most people get it from smoking or chewing tobacco. If you do this, STOP NOW. Live a good lifestyle. You do not want this. You never want this. For anyone. Ever. It is brutally hard.
The truth remains: cancer sucks. We have also adopted the phrase “it could be worse.” After seeing what other cancer patients encounter, we believe we are fortunate people.

How author Brenda Sparks became a #1 Blogger 2 years in a row on #RLFblog @Brenda_Sparks
How Does Brenda do it?
Brenda Sparks managed to be the top blogger on Romance Lives Forever, two years in a row. How? I can tell you one thing, she talks about other authors who appear here and sends out tweets every week leading people back to her posts. In return, she gets a book listed on the front page of the blog for a year. Not shabby at all! See an example of one of her tweets below. It’s about her book, but it goes to the RLF blog. I think one secret is she cares and shares.
And what about Vicki Batman, who managed to get 40 comments on one blog post? What does she do to get people to read and comment? One thing about her that I know, she supports other authors, and she has an incredibly compelling personal story to tell. She and her husband, whom she always calls Handsome, have been going through a long battle with cancer. She’s shared her unfolding story each year during Cancer Awareness in October. Her readers love keeping up with her. I think one secret is her big heart.
Both Brenda and Vicki get a full year of advertising on RLF. Congratulations!
What kind of books do they write? Brenda writes Paranormal and Vicki writes Contemporary and Women’s Fiction. The other authors listed below are an interesting mix. Two write historical fiction, and several write suspense. The biggest draw on this site is romance, followed by contemporary, PNR (paranormal romance), romantic suspense, historical, contemporary, and sci fi. That last one is partly because it’s what I write and I sneak in a post every month myself. We have a large number of Sci Fi posts from others too. But those are not the only genres. We have everything except kidlit.
In 2019, There were many authors who did an amazing job of bringing visitors to the blog. After Brenda Sparks, the following authors are listed in order based on the number of visits they brought to the blog.
#1 Lyndell Williams
#2 Dee S Knight (Dee comments on RLF every day!)
#3 Kryssie Fortune
#4 NJ Walters
#5 Alina K Field
#6 Daryl Devore
#7 Alexa Aston
#8 Karen Cino
#9 Jami Gray
#10 Amber DaultonTwo authors whose visits were also high overall were Vicki Batman (surprised? not) and Lorelei Confer.
So how do you get to be a number one blogger and get your name out there where people can hear about you? Use Twitter. Share on Facebook. Pop it into your newsletter. Share pictures on Tumblr. Whatever works for you, use it to tell people where you are going to be. When an author shares it helps others as well as the author. Being a champion for others is what it’s all about.
Here’s the link to sign up for next year. I use SignupGenius to let you pick your own date, plus, you’ll get automated reminders so you don’t miss a scheduled visit.
My thanks to all the wonderful authors who have appeared on RLF during 2019. Here’s to a prosperous and successful 2020.

Top Bloggers Oct 2015 @pmillhouse #RLFblog
Cancer Awareness Week In October, RLF celebrated Cancer Awareness Week. Authors who
have faced cancer either in themselves, or a family member were invited to
share stories. The importance of friends and family, and having a support system
is vital. One key to success is being able to ask for help — and then being willing
to accept it. It’s a lesson I’ve had in my own life during various times. I don’t
accept help well. It’s something I fight with all the time. I’d like to think
“I’ve got this” but sometimes I don’t have as good a grip as I thought
I did. I have a friend who’s dealing with cancer right now. A friend’s brother died
from cancer last year. Cancer affects all of us. I hope I’m even half as good a
friend as those you read about in this series.I presented the posts as an opportunity for the authors to share
