Drakon’s Tear by NJ Walters

Genre Paranormal Romance/Shapeshifter
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
Dying isn’t an option. I’ve survived a kidnapping, and now I’m on the run from the Knights of the Dragon who want my gift. There’s nothing a dragon loves more than treasure. I’m Abigail Owens, and I can sense gemstones. When I find myself drawn to a beautiful stone bracelet at a tiny shop in Moscow, I can’t help but have it — even though I can sense it’s power. But I didn’t realize with this one decision I’ve just put myself in the middle of a war between the Knights and a Drakon.
I guess I’m just lucky like that.
The only person I trust even a little is Vasili Zima, which is weird since I’m not sure if he wants to kill me or protect me. I’m drawn to him in a way I hadn’t thought possible, and he feels the same way, or he wouldn’t be risking his life to help me. He’s wanted by the bad guys just as much as I am, and staying with me, well, there’s a hundred percent chance I’m about to get us both killed. But I will not be going down without a fight.

(Author’s Note: This book is NOT first person point of view.)

QUICK

Do you write more than one genre? If so, what are they?…
I write romance, but have explored many different sub-genres—erotic, ménage a trois, contemporary, sci-fi, and paranormal. The past half dozen years or more it’s been mostly paranormal romance. I can’t seem to get enough shifters, especially werewolves and drakons.
How do you come up with ideas?…
Book ideas come from everywhere—TV shows, magazine articles, snippets of overheard conversation, an online quiz, non-fiction books, songs. There is no end to possibilities. It’s all in the combination of the ideas. That’s what makes it so much fun. Sometimes an idea will seemingly pop into my head out of nowhere while I’m out walking or doing housework.
I’ve carried some ideas around with me for years. That’s what happened with the Blood of the Drakon series. I always knew I wanted to write about drakons (the offspring between pure-blooded dragons and human women), but the characters didn’t really start talking to me until a few years ago.
While I was waiting for the drakons, I had plenty of alpha werewolves demanding stories of their own.
What is the single most important part of writing for you?…
Everything starts with the characters. I may have an idea, but until I know the hero and heroine I don’t even think about writing. I write mini bios on index cards. I’ll often learn a lot more about them as I go, but that’s where I start.
Once I understand who the characters are, their story naturally arises from that. I’ll often have a couple of ideas for scenes or conflicts before I begin, but I’m more a pantser than a plotter.
As soon as I know what the first scene is going to be I start writing.
When did you write your first book?…
I wrote my first book back in the mid 1990s. I’d always been a voracious reader, but it never occurred to me that I might write until I was unemployed for a short while. I decided to give it a try and wrote 2 books. I submitted them to a couple of publishers, but they were rejected. I put the books away and didn’t start writing again until 2003. I wrote a short novel and submitted it to one of the early e-publishers and had it accepted. Annabelle Lee was released in October of 2004 (it’s since been rereleased as Uncovering Annabelle).
And the two books I wrote back in the 1990s…they were rewritten and Discovering Dani and The Way Home became the first two books of my Jamesville series.
