Rock star Raphael Santiago is haunted by the night his friend Devin died. Maybe because there’s something that no one knows about the overdose. But when he jumps in the crowd to defend a woman at one of his concerts, he finds he doesn’t want to keep the secret from her.

Mia was a tight little ball of fire, and I was made of combustible material. She misunderstood my intentions the night we met, but I was given an opportunity to explain the next day. I wish that was our only miscommunication, but when I discovered she’d written an inflammatory article about Just Short of Chaos, I thought she was using me to get a story. The hurt that caused made me say some nasty things. Now I may have lost her forever.

Mia Love doesn’t know if Rafe is truly interested in her, or if she is merely a new plaything for him.

Oh, there was definitely a heat between us from day one. Sometimes volatile, sometimes scorching in a good way. But I’d been burnt before and I was stronger now. No way was I going to let a rock star break my heart.

It’s late, he’s bored. What does he do?

Rafe would probably be reading non-fiction having something to do with psychology or the American Civil War. He’d also have a stack of autobiographies about people who have kicked addiction.

What kind of food would he impulse buy if hungry?

Pizza or burgers.

Describe the kind of clothes he prefers to wear.

Conservative and classy. Think J.Crew.

Does he know how to fix things?

He’s actually somewhat handy. He and his father have tackled some home repairs together.

He tried to do something and it went badly. Tell us about it.

He wants to show Mia what his abuela’s tamales are like, so he asks his mom for the recipe. Even though he’s decent in the kitchen, the tamales are a little beyond his grasp. They are good, but not like his mom’s or abuela’s. He has a good sense of humor about it, though, and vows to take lessons with his mom the next time they’re on a break from a tour.

How does he act around children he doesn’t know?

He’s good with kids. His even demeanor and knowledge of psychology come in handy.

What is he like first thing in the morning?

Pretty much like he is throughout the day. Even keeled and polished.

Can he use chopsticks?

Yes. He picked it up on his travels with his parents at a very young age.

Does he drink coffee? If so, how does he take it? If not, what does he drink instead?

He takes his coffee black, but limits it to two cups, for the most part.

What apps would he have on his phone?

He has an app for creating music, most social media platforms, and a few different fitness apps. He also has a prayer app that he doesn’t tell people about.

Android.

Beard or clean-shaven?

Beard, or at least stubble.

Earrings/piercings/tattoos or unadorned skin?

He has a tribal tattoo on his shoulder that wraps around to the back and the Japanese symbol for peace on his side at waist level. No piercings.

Personal vehicle or public transport?

He has a gray BMW i8 (sports car) which spends a lot of time at his mom and dad’s house.

Recycle or toss?

Recycle. His bandmate Jericho would kill him if he didn’t.
