Genre romantic suspense

Book heat level (based on movie ratings):

If Maryam Avery stays in New York for one more day, she will die.

Trapped in an abusive relationship with the manipulative and cruel Raad, she can feel her life closing in around her. After he chases her from her home and family, Maryam flees to Philadelphia, searching desperately for a new beginning, something to help rebuild her spiritually and physically.

When she meets the mysterious Adam, things are thrown off-kilter. A successful businessperson with his own past that he is fleeing from, he is everything that Maryam wants. But can she trust another man?

Doubt gives way to desire. They find themselves in a whirlwind romance, and for once, it seems like everything will work out.

Until Raad turns up.

Why did you write this book?

I am so excited to release Building on Broken Dreams, book three in the Brothers in Law series. I wrote it for a few reasons. I am committed to writing steamy romances with characters reflective of American Muslim culture. So many Muslim authors shy away from sensual depictions of passion, despite a rich tradition of erotic literature.

I grew up reading romances with cherished female leads and revered male leads, very few of which I could deeply connect because I didn’t see myself. My books offer readers a chance to connect to a range of backgrounds to see and love themselves through my characters.

I also wanted to show how the past can remain an influence on our futures, despite our best efforts. Maryam picks up as many of the broken pieces of her life and rebuilds. Unfortunately, the influence of the relationship between her and Raad refuses to die.

What is your favorite genre to read?

I love all kinds of romance. My favorites are second chance at love, suspense and friends to lovers.

Who is your favorite character from fiction (not including your own)?

One of my favorite literary characters is Mrs. Havisham in Great Expectations. Yeah, I know she is the antagonist, but her expert manipulation is one of the best portrayals of a manipulative sociopath, determined to make the entire world pay for her hurt.

She has the money and time to master to maneuver all the other characters unfortunate enough to cross her path. Poor Pip and Estelle.

What are you working on at the moment?

I have a few projects on my writing roster. I am clicking away to get Drowning in Shallow Waters, Brothers in Law book four to readers. The main characters Brandon and Hafsah must battle their insecurities to be together, all while someone works to destroy Brandon’s legal career and life.

I am also writing Fighting Fate, a post-apocalyptic, time travel, dystopian romance. Janelle is as systems manager for a time travel matrimonial service. Her boss is certain that she can find Janelle’s fated mate and catapults her through time. This story of love and politics will be part of the Timeless Love author series.

Readers are looking for the third book in my Open to Love series. Don’t worry, guys. I’m hard at work to bring Rahmah and Baaz’s story front and center.

What books will we see from you in coming months?

I dedicated most of my writing time to book three in the Open to Love series. With the release of Building on Broken Dreams, everyone can get satisfy their Brothers in Law Jones with Adam and Maryam.
