Perfectly Christmas by Linda O’Connor

Genre Holiday Romantic Comedy

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG-13

On the first day of Christmas, his true love said to him, “Sorry, I have to work.”

That’s the life of a surgeon, and Dr. Madison Hayes wouldn’t have it any other way.

Dr. Quinn Malone has another priority. In the countdown to Christmas, he needs to convince his old flame that there’s more to life – and love – than the job itself.

This time, his heart is in it for the long haul. Really.

Romantic and…complicated – it’s Perfectly Christmas!

Two Tips for Household Chores

I love setting a formal table, and I have a lot of fun creating colorful tablescapes. I thought I’d share tips for a proper place setting. There are rules!

Have you ever sat down at a dinner party and wondered which bread plate is yours? An easy way to remember is the pneumonic BMW – the bread plate, meal plate, and water glass are placed from left to right. So your bread plate is the one on the left!

If you’re setting a formal table, the placement of the flatware (fancy name for cutlery) matters. Forks are placed to the left of the dinner plate and the knife and spoons to the right. Put them in the order that you will use them from the outside in. For example, a meal that includes soup, salad, main course, and dessert, in that order, would have two forks to the left of the dinner plate and a knife and soup spoon on the right. The salad fork is the slightly smaller one and would be to the left of the dinner fork because you’ll be using it first. The blade of the knife should face the dinner plate, and the soup spoon is placed to the right of the knife. The dessert fork and spoon are put above the plate. The spoon is oriented with the bowl of the spoon on the left, and the tines of the fork should point to right (that’s opposite to where they are at the side of the plate), and the fork is closest to the top of the plate. When I set a table, I also use chargers – they look like large plates and come in an array of colors. I leave them on the table throughout the meal, but some people remove them before the main course is served.

The water glass and stemware (fancy name for wine glasses) are placed above the knife to the right of the dinner plate. The water glass is above the knife and the wine glass is placed to the right of that. If you’re having both red and white wine, the red wine glass is placed above the white wine glass.

When you sit down as a guest, the first thing you should do is place your napkin on your lap. I prefer to place the napkin on the charger secured with a pretty napkin ring. Sometimes the napkin is underneath the forks – keep in mind that it’s considered bad form to fling your fork onto the floor when you pull out your napkin!

If you’re stuck for a Christmas gift, a tablecloth and napkins are handy all year round especially if you don’t limit yourself to traditional Christmas colours. No matter how fancy a table you set, raise a glass to family and good friends getting together (safely) to share love and laughter during the holiday season!
