Freedom’s Path by Linda Carroll-Bradd

Genre historical romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG
As a maid in the Deerbourne Inn, freedom-fighter Sidonie Demers has the perfect cover for helping escaping slaves on the Underground Railroad. The patterns in her quilts serve as messages directing them to the safest route. The cause is personal for octoroon Sidonie whose mother and grandmother escaped bondage years earlier.
Army Corporal Colin Crawford arrives in Willow Springs, disguised as a salesman, to locate abolitionist activity. Raised detesting slavery, he’s conflicted about upholding the Fugitive Slave Act but believes in laws and fulfilling his duty.
The attraction between Colin and Sidonie is irresistible, but what happens when their true identities are revealed?
What’s your favorite down-home family style meal?
I’ve always been partial to lasagna, which has become a bit of a challenge since hubby and I switched to mostly vegan cuisine.
Describe the perfect vacation.
Traveling to a place I’ve never been before (doesn’t matter if mountains or desert) with lots of historic buildings and/or museums to visit.
Tell us about your favorite toy as a child.
I had several plastics horses and sent my Barbie and Ken dolls on adventures to foreign countries or to times in the past.
When you read for pleasure, what kind of books do you choose?
A genre I’m not writing. If my current WIP is historical, then I read contemporary and vice versa. I read a lot of mysteries, especially by Swedish and Norwegian authors–must be tied to my Scandinavian DNA.
What kinds of things do you read when you’re researching a new book?
I love reading firsthand accounts of an area, the history of the location, and the types of people who settled there. I write mostly in the latter half of the 1800s so lots of my books include characters who have lived through the emigrant experience. I have AAA tour books of many states, and often a little-known fact of an actual occurrence fits in my story timeline.

As a young girl, Linda was often found lying on her bed reading about fascinating characters having exciting adventures in places far away and in other time periods. In later years, she read and then started writing romances and achieved her first publication–a confession story. Married with 4 adult children and 2 granddaughters, Linda now writes heartwarming contemporary and historical stories with a touch of humor from her home in the southern California mountains.
