Interview with Daisy Banks

Why did you write this
book?
This book is the offshoot of another I started. I realized I’d
begun in the middle of something and needed the reasons behind those events for
things to make sense. Therefore A Perfect Match came into being. I had a great time
writing this story and found the characters, like their world, compelling. I think
this is a cross genre romance, part fantasy and part sci-fi.
This is the first time I have written something so complex and
I enjoyed the challenge of world building and creating a religion, government and
social structure. The society my characters function in is one where they shine
as individuals and as a couple. I always enjoy seeing my characters overcome obstacles
and Varon and Anwell face a raft of difficulties in A Perfect Match. I also like
to see my characters grow and this couple develop as individuals as they learn to
depend on each other.
I guess the most basic reason of all as to why I wrote this story
is that it was in my head and I wanted to tell the tale. The sci-fi futuristic elements
to the story are a step in a different direction for me and I surprised myself with
some of the aspects of the story.
What is your favorite
genre to read?
I enjoy fantasy and have done for a long time. I like fantasy
romance and epic fantasy stories. One of the joys of fantasy is the range and depth
it offers both writers and readers.
What is your favorite
character from fiction?
My all time favorite character remains Merlin in all the many
interpretations of his story. I like the many different qualities within the character
of Merlin. I also enjoy the range and depth different writers have discovered showing
many elements to him.
Do you enjoy films and/or
TV shows? Which are your favorites?
I enjoy movies in many genres and I love some of the old movies
from the 30’s and 40’s. My favorite version of Pride and Prejudice is the black
and white version. I adore Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers dance movies and anything
with Katherine Hepburn in it. I watch more up to date movies too and I have a big
collection of DVD’s.
The two most memorable films I saw in a cinema are Jaws, because
the whole audience stood clapping and cheering at the end when the shark got killed,
and Lord of the Rings part 1 because Hobbiton looked so close to my imagining.
I don’t watch a great deal of TV but I do like Sherlock Holmes
and Dr. Who. I tend to watch historical documentary style programs rather than anything
else.
What are you working on
at the moment, and what are we likely to see from you in the coming months?
At present, I am thrilled to have my book A Perfect Match released
today by Taliesin Publishing and am working on some promotional activities and blogging
about that story.
I am also in edits with the sequel to Timeless, To Eternity,
which will be published by Lyrical Press, A Kensington Imprint, later this year.
I am very excited that this story will be available to readers soon.
Next year my fantasy story, Marked for Magic, will be released
by Lyrical Press too.
I am also working on short story for a group anthology but that’s
all a bit hush hush right now.
There is a new historical as a work in progress too and a short
story that should be finished by the end of July. All in all, there is lots going
on and I’m working hard.
Please tell us about your
latest book.
Commander Varon Jarlath is an interstellar water diviner of great
talent and a hero to the city that survives because of his successful missions.
His popularity with the folk adds to the reasons behind the enmity of Lord Chardel,
leader of the city government body, the Carnag.
Varon understands the malice behind the offer of a bride and
the political difficulty he might face should he refuse the generosity of the Carnag.
His hopes for the success of his marriage are not high until he meets his bride.
Anwell Nastor has spent every day since her twelfth birthday
in the Temple offering
prayer chants to the gods. The shock of her wedding almost overwhelms her but she
has courage and a mind.
Political intrigue, the danger to the folk and the city all push
Varon and his bride to work together to gain popularity so they can have a voice
and make a difference.
