Interview: Author and Artist JoAnn Myers @scooterismine #RLFblog #painting #artist

Today’s author (and artist) guest is Mystery and Suspense
writer JoAnn Myers.
Tell us a little about yourself.
I have been a long-time resident of southeastern Ohio, and worked
in the blue-collar industry most of my life. Besides having several novels under
my belt, I canvas paint.
When not busy with hobbies or working outside the home, I spend
time with relatives, my dog Jasmine, and volunteer my time within the community.
I am a member of the International Women’s Writing Guild, Savvy Authors, Coffee
Time Romance, Paranormal Romance Guild, True Romance Studios, National Writers Association,
the Hocking Hill’s Arts and Craftsmen Association, The Hocking County Historical
Society and Museum, and the Hocking Hills Regional Welcome Center. I believe in
family values and following your dreams. My original canvas paintings, can be found
at: booksandpaintingsbyjoanne.com
What genres do you write?
I write fantasy, paranormal, true crime, mystery and poetry.
What is your next book about?
These are stories about handsome, courageous and determined men
who don’t let anything or anyone get in their way of catching the bad guy.
Are any of the characters in your books like you?
Yes, and I also fuse my friends, relatives and co-workers into
my characters.
What type of paint do you use, and what do you paint?
I currently use oils and acrylics. I paint a lot of lighthouses,
sunsets, sunrises, beach scenes, woods. I like bright colors, and I like the way
oils blend together.
What is the hardest part of painting?
Determining what size canvas to use, and picking out the frame.
Sorting through all the paint colors and brushes you will be using is time consuming.
Painting leaves you with a beautiful picture to hang on your wall, but it is a lot
of work.
What is the newest project(s) you are working on?
My crime/mystery anthology “Flagitious” due out later
this month by Melange Books. More canvas artwork to add to my growing collection.
I get a lot of inspiration for paintings from calendar pictures.
What do you do when you’re not writing and painting?
I have a day job at a nursing home. I take mini vacations, I
watch television. I enjoy true crime shows, Judge Mathis, Turner Classic Movie Channel,
Syfy station, the Western channel, I run my website Books and Paintings by JoAnne
and promote, promote, promote.
Is there anything you will never paint or write about?
Erotica. It is too naughty.
Is there anything you would tell aspiring artists?
Never give up. If you truly enjoy something, you must stay with
it.
If you could be any paranormal creature what would you be?
A jumper, so I could jump in and out of everywhere.
If zombies attacked what kind of supplies
would you want?
Zombie killing ray guns.
