Historical: Little Witch (Evolution Series) | Interview @jillhughey #RLFblog

Little Witch
Jill Hughey, welcome to Romance Lives Forever.
Let’s talk about your book, Little Witch: Historical Romance Novella, the fifth
installment in your Evolution Series.
Genre: Historical Romance
Publisher: self-published
Cover artist: Rae Monet
Length: 49,000 words
Heat rating: Warm/Sensual
Tagline: The night is
dark. The moon is bright. She brings his heart into her light.
Blurb:
A vicious neighbor uses a series of coincidences to label Salena
as the local moon-charmer, making her an outcast in rural Francia. When Salena encounters
her brother’s childhood friend, Nox, out on business for the Lord of Ribeauville,
she fears he will accept the locals’ tales about her, especially since they relate
to the death of his family a decade before. He is, instead, as charmed by her as
she is by him.
Nox’s sympathy for Salena evolves into affection in spite of
his strict rule against close ties with people. Afraid to risk another loss like
that of his youth, he abruptly ends their relationship, unaware that Salena has
already been downtrodden by her father denying her request to venture farther out
into the world.
A threat to Salena’s family prompts her to run away in the hopes
of protecting those she loves while forging a new path for her life. Too late, Nox
discovers that she has also run away with his scarred heart.

What are your main characters’ names, ages, and
occupations?
Salena is 22 years old. She is the daughter of
a tenant farmer in the year 848, so her main occupation is helping her family survive
by growing and gathering food and supplies, but she longs to get out into the world.
Nox is 24 years old. He has worked for the Lord
of Ribeauville since he was orphaned at age14, and has been promoted from stableboy
to the lord’s representative with the tenants and landowners in his domain.
Interview
What websites do you visit daily?
I visit Kindle Direct Publishing, Facebook, and
Tweetdeck every day.
If you could choose anyone to be your mentor
who would it be?
Mary Balogh. I enjoy her books immensely and,
based on her Facebook posts, she seems like a friendly, genuine lady.
If you could give the younger version of yourself
advice what would it be?
Start writing romance right after graduating
from college. I never considered writing as a career choice back then and now I
wonder why?
What is your work ethic when it comes to writing?
I’m a pretty good self-starter. Any daylight
hours that I am not at my part-time job, or running kids around, I am working as
an author, one way or another. I used to do social media tasks at night, but I found
I wasn’t sleeping very well, so I’ve given myself permission to relax at least part
of the evening.
Do things your family or friends do ever end
up in a book?
Of course! In Little Witch, I especially enjoyed writing the sibling relationship
between Salena and her older brother, Grant. We’ve all experienced or observed the
younger child struggling to assert herself against the older, “wiser”
one.
What kind of books do you read when taking a
break from your own writing?
I read mainly historical romance. Surprisingly,
I’ve recently been enjoying a paranormal contemporary series too, which is a real
shocker to me!
Imagine you get to go on a dream vacation, but
you have only one hour to pack and leave, and it starts as soon as you finish this
interview. What will you take with you and where will you go?
It would be a hard choice between Australia and Hawaii,
but I’ll say Australia.
I’d take hiking clothes, beachwear, sunglasses, my laptop and my ereader, and hopefully
it would be a trip for two so I could bring my hubbie!
What is your favorite holiday and why?
Christmas, because I love Christmas music and
all the traditions that surround the holiday, though I must say it requires more
work as the mom than it ever did as a kid.
What good book have you read recently?
“First Grave on the Right” by Darynda
Jones starts the series I referred to in the earlier question. Really, really awesome
concept and fun characters. I am not normally a fan of contemporary or paranormal
romances, but she grabbed me with this one.
Please underline which statement is more
like you:
“I am a vacation spa because I am laid back
and relaxed.”
“I am a ten-countries in ten-days tour vacation,
because I do things as fast as possible.”
Please complete the sentences
I love pizza with bacon.
I’m always ready for coffee or wine, depending
on the time of day and the circumstances
.
When I’m alone, I write.
You’d never be able to tell, but I can sing
really, really high
.
If I had a halo it
would be tarnished.
If I could stop worrying I’d U!
I can never enjoy skiing because I
am terrified I will fall.
