Genre Gay Paranormal Erotic Romance

Callum MacLaren, a professor from Scotland, visits Willow Springs, Vermont during the Winter Solstice to study and explore the rich history of St. Joseph’s Cemetery. His encounter with a sexy soldier in a tattered Civil War uniform is a captivating puzzle, and the more he learns, the deeper his attraction.

A hundred and fifty years ago, Elijah Freeman was killed during the Second Battle of Fort Wagner and woke up in Willow Springs, the only home he’d known. Alone, he roams the town, unable to leave or interact with a single soul until an intriguing Scot addresses him. Even stranger, the man can see him, hear him, and touch him–a sizzling caress that leaves Elijah aching for more.

But will Elijah return to his ghostly form when the magic of the solstice fades, or is Callum’s love enough to keep him in the land of the living?

Is it true:

this is your first book?

This is my first book. I’m super excited about and nervous.

this book is part of a series?

Yes, this book is part of a series. The Wild Rose Press has created an inn in a fictious Vermont town. The Deerbourne Inn books are loosely connected stories set in the town of Willow Springs.

you lost sleep while writing this book?

Not true. Although my characters make me work hard to give them a proper happy ending, my slumber wasn’t interrupted.

you did research for this book?

I did research for the book. One of the characters is a history professor visiting from Scotland (don’t you just love their accents?), and the other character was a black soldier in the American Civil War. I had to research life back in the 1860s as well as the war itself. I worry about the details but hope I got it right.

some characters in this book are not human? (pets for example)

One of the characters is a ghost. That’s not human, right? He died over one hundred and fifty years ago, fighting for the union army.

this book has more than one genre?

Yes, this book straddles genres. First and foremost, it is a romance with a happy ending. Secondly, it is a gay romance – two men falling in love. Thirdly it is erotic – happy times are had in the cabin they are forced to share during a winter storm. Finally, there are paranormal elements. I didn’t set out to write a paranormal romance but if you have a ghost, it gets included in that category. I see my character as a real person, even if he is dead.

you speak more than one language?

True. I grew up in Ottawa, Canada. The city is separated from the French province of Quebec by the Ottawa river, but that’s easy to cross these days. My parents put me in a program called French Immersion and I spent more than half my school day studying French. I’ve lost some of it but I drop the occasional French word in my stories.

you grew up where you live now?

False. I grew up in Ottawa the capital of Canada. I now live on the west coast in a little town called Mission. I love beautiful British Columbia and can’t believe I get to make this place my home.

you love to read?

Absolutely true. Although I listen to audiobooks, I count that as reading. Last year I listened to over two hundred books and am already on track for something similar this year.

you are never late?

Another true. I plan carefully to always arrive at least fifteen minutes early. I never leave home without my iPod, so I can listen to an audiobook while waiting. I’m a firm believer in courtesy – if you’re making time for me, the least I can be is prompt.

you love pizza?

Who doesn’t? Pizza is something we don’t eat very often, so when I do, it’s a treat. I love bacon, mushrooms, and green olives.

you love sushi?

Uh, no. Never. Raw fish holds less than zero appeal to me.

you have a pet?

This is probably the most important truth. I have a sixteen-year-old purebred Himalayan cat named Lady Arabella de Bergerac (her father was Cyrano). Her trusted companion is my four-year-old chinpoo, Ally. Ally is ten pounds of pure love. She’s a therapy dog, and so is often allowed with me into restaurants, stores, nursing homes, and hospitals. Ally brings happiness wherever she goes. I might have rescued her, but she’s the one who saved me.
