Fated Hearts by Becky Flade

Genre Romantic Suspense

Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG-13

Psychiatrist Henley Elliott fled her quiet life in Cleveland for a gypsy lifestyle, trying to stay one step ahead of her painful memories. When she breaks down in quirky little Trappers’ Cove, Minnesota, she meets Sheriff Carter McAlister – a man healing from his own share of hidden heartbreaks.

At the request of a friend, Carter offers Henley a job to help her get back on her feet . . . but soon he can’t resist trying to sweep the intriguing woman off them. Breaking through her carefully built shell proves to be a near-impossible task, and to make matters worse, a dangerous new presence in the Cove seems to be targeting Henley. They must learn to trust in each other in order to keep her safe.

Can Henley and Carter leave their secrets and scars in the past to get a second chance at happily ever after?

Meet Dublin from Fated Hearts

Full name: Dublin

Nickname: Stupid

Gender: Male

Species: German Shepherd

Physical description: Black and tan

Relationship to main character: Best friend

Relationship to the villain/antagonist: Obstacle

Where this furbaby came from: The streets

What inspired you to create this character?

My dog, Ella, passed away from cancer shortly before I began working on the initial draft of Fated Hearts. Dublin, the hero’s dog and best friend, is a tribute to my sweet, silly girl who we often referred to as Stupid.

What does the main character think about this furbaby?

He loves his dog. They have their own back story and it’s an important moment in the book when Carter shares that story with Henley, I don’t want to spoil it.

How do other characters react to or interact with this furbaby?

Dublin is well loved by all the characters in the book, except the villain of course.

What does this furbaby add to the story?

Dublin is the only reminder of Carter’s past life that he brings with him when he starts over in Trappers’ Cove because Dublin is the reason Carter has that second chance.

Describe a humorous incident involving the animal character.

Dublin is allowed to explore the rural/forestry area surrounding Carter’s home, but on one such outing, he chases skunk(s) and Carter finds him doused in “perfume.”

About Ella

Fiction Furbaby: Meet Dublin from Fated Hearts by Becky Flade @beckyflade @RobsRescues #RLFblog #PetsThis post is called Fiction Furbaby, but perhaps your own pet does not have fur. If you have a pet that has fins, wings, scales, or other features, please tell us about them here.

Which, if any of the pets in your writing are modeled after your own pets? In what way?

Dublin’s personality is based upon my Ella’s.

What do your pets do when you are writing?

She would always bump my elbow popping my arm up in the air, and then she’d slide her head under so when my arm fell it would land around her neck.

What’s the most unusual pet you ever had?

A chicken. I brought a baby chick home to Philadelphia from my grandparent’s farm in rural West Virginia. It wasn’t a good fit. J

Where did you find your pet?

I adopted Ella. She was a rescue.

What do you feed your pet?

She liked Beneful

Describe a toy or favorite item your pet loves.

Pillows. She loved to curl up and nap on pillows of any shape and size. She didn’t know she was an 86 pound warhorse. She thought she was a tiny little lapdog.

When I was little, I thought everyone had stories in their head. I didn’t find out that wasn’t the case until kindergarten. I remember thinking that was sad; and that I should share the ones I had. I asked my teacher for help. I had her cut, fold and staple the paper into a suspiciously book-like shape. Then I drew the cover art and illustrated the interior pages. Finally, and most importantly, I dictated the text. And violà … a writer was born.
It took thirty years for me to get from that first attempt to published author. I think the road thus far has added some depth and experience to my writing. At the very least I learned I shouldn’t ever do my own illustrations.
A city girl, born and bred, I tend to place my stories in and around southeast Pennsylvania, or at least have a character or two from the area. Home is where the heart is and I make mine with my two beautiful daughters and my two grandsons whom make every day a blessing.
Making my own dreams come true, one happily ever after at a time.
