Naval Maneuvers

Genre Erotic romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
Men and women of the armed forces experience desire and love pretty much like everyone else. Except, well, there is that uniform. And the hard-to-resist attraction of “duty, honor, service” as a man might apply them to a woman’s pleasure. All things considered, romance among the military is a pretty sexy, compelling force for which you’d better be armed.
Weighing Anchor (allowing a ship to move forward by retrieving the anchor): A professional woman sworn to avoiding all things military finds herself in love with a lieutenant commander in the Navy. Love won’t conquer all if she allows her childhood memories to eclipse future happiness.
Dropping Anchor (securing movement by dropping the anchor): Two people find (surprisingly) that they are both in the Navy and love their chosen professions–until one turns out to be an officer but not a gentleman and the other is a gentleman but not an officer.
Anchor Home (safe, smooth sailing): When two former lovers find each other after more than a decade, will a long-hidden secret threaten the course of a rekindled romance or be the cause of it?

Introducing Todd Baxter

Please tell me about yourself.
Age: 38
Gender: Male
Birthplace: Asheville, NC
Profession: Super Chief in the U.S. Navy
Ethnicity: Caucasian
What do you look like?
Dark gray eyes, over six feet tall, pretty strong physique, but not bulked up, auburn hair that’s showing a little silver now, usually kept military short, clean-shaven. And, uh, I’ve been told I have a pretty great package. Not that I’d say so myself… ;)
Who is the significant other in your life?
Lieutenant Commander Carissa Walker, U.S.N.
How do you dress?
During work I’m in uniform–usually khaki shirt and trousers, shined shoes, garrison cap (wide black brim with flat top). Off duty, I’m a beach guy, in jeans and tee shirts, loafers or sneakers.
Are any of your skills a source of pride or embarrassment, and if so, which ones and why?
I’m a great mechanic and my degrees in engineering help me know the best paths to take to solve problems that arise in the boiler room, where I work. I don’t take pride in these skills exactly, but I’m happy I have them because they make me the best Super Chief I can be, both for the Navy and for my men. It’s all about them.
Are you close to family?
I love my family, though I don’t get home to Carolina to see them often. My brother was ten years older than I, so he amusingly tolerated me and I hero-worshipped him. My sister, who lives in Norfolk where I’m stationed now, is more an annoyance than friend but only because she thinks I need her to run my life. I grew up knowing I was loved, with two parents who are still married and who allowed me to be a boy and get into scrapes while being there to help me out. I was lucky.
If someone from your past showed up, who would you most want it to be, and why?
My brother. He’s the reason I joined the Navy, a life that gave me every satisfaction a man could dream of–until Carie came along, of course. My brother was a chief in the Navy. I wanted to honor his memory by becoming one, too. I’ve missed him every day he’s been gone.
What would help you face hardship and meet any challenge?
There are a lot of things, actually. First, education. That provides the foundation for most challenges at work. Then, as greatly, training. The Navy has invested a lot of time and money in training me to respond quickly and correctly to problems. Support of my men and superiors keeps me steady, and my desire to serve them, the Navy, and America keeps me going when I might want to stop. And lastly, Carie’s love. It sounds sappy, but I’d go through fire for her and any children that might be in our future. Keeping her love and showing her love is the challenge I will always strive to meet. *laughing* Does that make me a wuss? Yeah, I guess, but that’s okay.
If you could make any one thing happen, what would it be?
At the risk of sounding like a Miss America candidate, peace. Some people might think that the military are a bunch of war mongers, but hell, who do they think has to go and fight wars? The people who fight are the ones least likely to want unrest. I’d love for the day to come when people go to sea to sail around and have fun rather than go as a symbol of power. However, as long as there is no overriding peace, the U.S. Navy will protect and serve. Count on it.

A few years ago, Dee S Knight began writing, making getting up in the morning fun. During the day, her characters killed people, fell in love, became drunk with power, or sober with responsibility. And they had sex, lots of sex. Writing was so much fun Dee decided to keep at it. That’s how she spends her days. Her nights? Well, she’s lucky that her dream man, childhood sweetheart, and long-time hubby are all the same guy, and nights are their secret.
