Only a Good Man Will Do by Dee S Knight

Genre Erotic romance
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
Seriously ambitious man seeks woman to encourage his goals, support his (hopeful) position as Headmaster of Westover Academy, and be purer than Caesar’s wife. Good luck with that!
Daniel Goodman is a man on a mission. For years he has striven for perfection, fighting for the pinnacle achievement in his world of academia, Headmaster of Westover Academy. Westover, established before the American Revolution, is still one of the most prestigious schools in the country. They accept only boys whose parents fit a certain mold and only those teachers who hold to a stringent set of mores, on and off campus. Jonah considers his brother a prig. Daniel sees himself as doing his best to serve his students. How much better can he serve them as headmaster? That is what he seeks to find out.
Suddenly, into his cut and dried, strictly black and white life of moral and upright behavior, comes Eve Star, formerly one of Europe’s foremost exotic dancers. Her life is anything but cut and dried, black and white. Bad enough that she’s enrolled her son in Westover Academy under false pretenses. More, she runs the town’s most disreputable bar. Worst, much to Daniel’s dismay, he finds himself drawn to her like a kid to chocolate. Nothing good can come of this attraction. Or can it? He is after all, a good man.
When someone dies, we say they “kicked the bucket.” Therefore, a list of things that a person wants to accomplish, places to go, situations to experience, and so on have become known as a “Bucket List.”

Please provide a physical description of yourself.
6’1″, hazel eyes, hair trimmed short and neat, trim figure, clean-shaven, always impeccably dressed
Please tell us a little about yourself.
I teach buys at the prestigious Westover Academy, a preparatory school for boys in New Hampshire. I started there eight years ago after teaching elsewhere for four years and gaining my PhD. I’m bookish and not embarrassed about that. I love working with my charges, both the younger boys who live in my dorm and the older boys, whom I teach English literature. The pinnacle of my career would be to become headmaster of Westover, and that is my current goal and why I need a woman who can fit in to the school culture and help support my dream.
Who is the significant other in your life?
Sadly, my obsession is with a woman who cannot fit into the school culture and would never be accepted as my wife–should I reach my goal of becoming headmaster. She’s Eve Star, a former exotic dancer. Or, let’s call a spade a spade, a former stripper, well-known on the European stage.
If you haven’t made a bucket list before, perhaps now would be a good time. Who knows? It might inspire another book. While you’re at it, how about telling us about some of your other favorite things? Here are the questions.
What is your birth order?

I’m one of a set of identical triplets. Mother never told us who was born first, middle, or last. Maybe because she didn’t really know herself.
Tell us about your favorite toy as a child.
Books. Always books.
Describe your favorite food and how it’s prepared.
As a child, my palate was simple–pinto beans and cornbread was great. Since dining at school I’ve come to appreciate a good roast. I understand that Eve makes an exceptional roast–I wonder if she would make one for me.
Tell us about your best friend.
My brothers, Mark and Jonah, were always my best friends. I stayed by myself a lot, though, losing myself in books. Here at school, my best friend on the faculty is Stan Baxter.
What are two places you would like to visit before you die, and why?
Great Britain because so much great literature and poetry emerged from there, and Italy because that’s where Eve lived for years. I’d like to see it through her eyes.
Where is a place you would never like to return, and why?
To live? Lucky Strike. It’s home and I have good memories of there, but people there think of me as one of the Goodman boys. I’ve worked hard to be my own man and I don’t want to be thought of as one of three again.
Who is someone you would like to meet, and why?
What literature teacher wouldn’t want to meet Shakespeare? But also Matthew Arnold because of his great poetry and his critical view on society and culture.
Who is someone you would like to avoid, and why?
Sydney Thomas. Her father is an important man on the Westover Academy board and Sydney fancies herself my champion. She’s a nice woman but she makes it known that she has more than a casual interest in me. It’s annoying because Sydney would make a perfect headmaster’s wife but Eve is driving me crazy with desire.
If you could time travel to any date, what would it be, and what would you do there?
The very early 17th century to view Shakespeare’s plays performed in the original Globe Theatre.
What was your biggest challenge in writing this book?
Revising the original storyline. It started years ago as a duo book with Vanessa Hart. She had been writing the part of Daniel’s twin brother, Jonah. When Vanessa gave her permission for me to continue the story alone, I had to fill in the parts she would have written. I also changed the twin story to triplets. There was quite a bit to do from a differing perspective, but I like the new direction.
Why did you choose this character for the interview today?
He’s the hero in the first book in The Good Man Series, a play on Daniel’s last name, Goodman. I like him–I can identify with him, having taught boys for a good number of years myself.
When writing the book, what did you discover about this character that surprised you?
How good a man he is. I mean, he can be a snob, but in his heart, he’s good. I like him!
Are any sequels planned for this book?
Yes, Jonah and Mark each get their own books. Jonah is a mechanic who gets a second chance at love–if he doesn’t screw things up again!–and Mark is a true genius who doesn’t recognize that the best thing in his life is before his very eyes.
What genre(s) would you like to write that you haven’t tried yet?
Hmmm… I’ve written futuristic, sweet (under a different name), ménage, and paranormal, so I’m not sure. I do have in mind a series that’s sweeter than The Good Man Series and will be written when I end with the Goodmans.
What would your readers be surprised to learn about you?
That I look like a sweet grandma who knows nothing about erotic romance. So untrue! ;)
Why should readers who haven’t picked up one of your books before give this one a try?
The story itself is good–it’s not all sex, though Daniel has healthy male appetites. Reviews have been wonderful and I think the believable characters will draw readers in. That was my goal, anyway!
Is there anything you’d like to say to your readers?
I love all of you! Thank you for inviting me into your reading world! And thank you, Kayelle for this opportunity!

A few years ago, Dee S Knight began writing, making getting up in the morning fun. During the day, her characters killed people, fell in love, became drunk with power, or sober with responsibility. And they had sex, lots of sex. Writing was so much fun Dee decided to keep at it. That’s how she spends her days. Her nights? Well, she’s lucky that her dream man, childhood sweetheart, and long-time hubby are all the same guy, and nights are their secret.
