Veronica Scott author of Star Cruise: Marooned answers five easy
questions to help readers get to know her better.

    Author Bio

    Best Selling Science Fiction &
Paranormal Romance author and “SciFi Encounters” columnist for the USA Today
Happily Ever After blog, Veronica Scott grew up in a house with a library as
its heart. Dad loved science fiction, Mom loved ancient history and Veronica
thought there needed to be more romance in everything. When she ran out of
books to read, she started writing her own stories.
Three time winner of the Galaxy
Award, as well as a National Excellence in Romance Fiction Award, Veronica is
also the proud recipient of a NASA Exceptional Service Medal relating to her
former day job, not her romances!
    What is your go-to meal
    when you dine out?
I love Panda Express and I’ll have their honey walnut
shrimp, pot stickers and spring rolls plus fried rice. This all goes perfectly
with an iced tea and of course the fortune cookie!
Who is your “book boyfriend” (that hottie you read
    about and drool over)?
I have many but the guy I consistently return to is Judd
Lauren from Nalini Singh’s Caressed by Ice.
    What are your hobbies?
When I’m not writing my own stories, or reading, I like to
spend time with my grandson. We build epic Lego kits together! I enjoy going to
movies. I used to sew and do quite a bit of crafting, but now the writing takes
up the majority of my time. My sportiest activity currently is taking long
walks, although I enjoy volleyball and archery.
    When you read for pleasure,
what kind of books do you choose?
I read a lot in my own genre of science fiction romance but
I also enjoy paranormal, epic fantasy romance, historical (ancient world and
Regency), and some contemporary. I’ve been known to read a suspense novel every
now and then, and I used to devour mysteries.
    What kinds of things do
you read when you’re researching a new book?
For Star Cruise: Marooned I researched all things to do with
cruise ships, the typical jobs on one, the cruise workers’ union, typical ports
of call, menus…lots of Google time. For my ancient Egyptian fantasies, I have
an entire library of scholarly tomes and again, of course the endless Google
    research.

    About the Book

    Title Star Cruise: Marooned
    Genre Science Fiction Romance
    Author Veronica Scott
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): PG-13
Meg Antille works long hours on the
charter cruise ship Far Horizon so she can send credits home to her family.
Working hard to earn a promotion to a better post (and better pay), Meg has no
    time for romance.
    Former Special Forces soldier Red
Thomsill only took the berth on the Far Horizon in hopes of getting to know Meg
better, but so far she’s kept him at a polite distance. A scheduled stopover on
the idyllic beach of a nature preserve planet may be his last chance to impress
    the girl.
But when one of the passengers is
attacked by a wild animal it becomes clear that conditions on the lushly
forested Dantaralon aren’t as advertised – the ranger station is deserted, the
defensive perimeter is down…and then the Far Horizon’s shuttle abruptly leaves
    without any of them.
    Marooned on the dangerous outback
world, romance is the least of their concerns, and yet Meg and Red cannot help
being drawn to each other once they see how well they work together. But can
they survive long enough to see their romance through? Or will the wild alien
planet defeat them, ending their romance and their lives before anything can
    really begin?

    What’s your
    favorite down-home family style meal?
Homemade meatloaf that is topped with bacon strips (no
gravy, no ketchup or tomato sauce topping), mashed potatoes with real butter,
and cream corn. Dessert would be peach pie.
    What is your
go-to meal when you dine out?
Kentucky Fried Chicken strips, mashed potatoes with extra
    gravy, and coleslaw.
    Tell us about
your favorite toy as a child.
I never considered her a toy. She was an 18 inch princess
doll with red-gold hair and blue glass eyes with eyelids that opened and
closed. She was made of plastic, had articulated arms and legs, and had a
beautiful face and soft smile. I loved the doll and played dress-up with her
for hours— even sewed dresses for her. I have forgotten her name, but her image
is indelibly imprinted in my mind. Oddly enough, I still have the well-worn and
aged patterns for her outfits and they work for Darq, the doll-avatar-heroine
of my 2012 novel, Jewels of the Sky.
    What are your
    hobbies?
Sewing and photography. I have won ribbons at the local fairs
with my sewing and photography.  My
favorite clothing items to sew and enter in the fair are aprons and
culottes.  My favorite photo subjects are
rocks and flowers. Rocks for their textures and colors. Flowers for their
color, shape, and the play of light across their petals.
    If the hero of
your latest book called you on the phone, what would be a perfect ringtone for
    him?
The hero of Hearts Akilter is Deacon Black, a bomb disposal
expert. He lives in the future, so no cell phone.  However, if he did have a private comlink
alert tone, it would likely be the “meep meep” of the Roadrunner when
    Wile E. Coyote gives chase.

    About the Book

    Title: Hearts Akilter
    Genre: Sci-fi Romance
    Author: Catherine E. McLean
Book heat level (based on movie ratings): R
When a medical robot insists he’s
having a heart attack, Marlee Evans, a pragmatic maintenance technician, has
every reason to panic. There’s a bomb inside him.  Since Marlee can’t risk the bomber
discovering she’s found the device, her only option is to kidnap Deacon Black,
an unflappable bomb expert, and secretly convince him to disarm it.  Things go slightly awry when Deacon sets a
trap for someone who is trying to kill him, and inadvertently captures Marlee
instead.  Instantly intrigued by her refreshingly
forthright and gutsy attitude, he’s smitten.
Unfortunately for Deacon, Marlee recently hardened her heart and swore
off men, especially handsome ones with boy-next-door grins.  But as Marlee and Deacon attempt to identify
and prevent the bomber from detonating the device, they discover that love may
be the most explosive force of all.

Champion of Entean a new #scifi romance by @CynthiaBryn #RLFblog

This quick interview includes info about the author, and
    introduces the story.

    About the Author

that span the subgenres of Young Adult, Space Opera, Science Fiction and
Romance. While each story is a grand adventure into time and dimension, her
stories are also reflections of contemporary issues such as social norms,
relationships, spirituality and environmentalism. She writes with keen
emotional depth, insightful observations on human nature, and a fabulously
    quirky sense of humor.
C.B. expresses her creativity across a variety of mediums,
including painting, blogging and vlogging. She enjoys candid and open
interactions with fans, readers and other authors, and shares her talent and
knowledge of the craft through her role as The Manuscript Midwife.
C.B. recently moved to Washington State, in the shadow of
Mt. Rainier with her husband, three dogs, four cats and the wild things that
    share their space with her.
When she’s not writing, you can find her painting,
adventuring, blogging or coaching other writers as the Manuscript Midwife.
    Visit her online at www.cbwilliams.us.

    Interview with CB Williams

    Why did you write
    this book?
Champion of Entean was born from a
photograph and a bottle of wine. No kidding.
A friend of mine sent me a picture of this spectacularly handsome and
intense man she’d found on the internet. I printed it out and stared at it,
wondering what his story was. A friend came over for a girlfriends’ night. You
know the kind…it features wine, chocolate and discussions about each other’s’
significant other. She was dating an artist at the time. Makes for much
discussion. During a lull in the conversation. (How can this be, you say? It
must have been before and after the first bite of the triple chocolate brownie
fudge tort of decadence is all I can think.) Anyway, during said lull, I pull
out the picture and say “What do you think this guy’s story is?”
    She says, “I think he’s a shaman.
He looks like he lives in the forest.”
    Sound’s good,” I say, “But he’s on
a different planet with different rules.”
“Maybe he represents his planet? A
    spokesman perhaps?” she says.
“Brilliant! Maybe he’s got all the
power of the planet he represents,” I say back.
    “Cool,” she says.
    “Yeah,” I say. “Good triple
chocolate brownie fudge tort of decadence, don’t you think?” (I say this with
my mouth filled with the stuff. I think I drooled a bit. Gross.)
We’re silent for a while. Eating
    and sipping .
“I wonder,” I say, licking my
spoon, “What would happen if this powerful guy is taken off his planet and,
away from his planet, his powers are no longer sourced and he becomes
    ordinary?”
And there you have it. How Champion
    of Entean got written
    What is your favorite
    genre to read?
    I have
lots of favorites. I think what motivates me more is who’s writing the book. I
love an artistic author. A wordsmith. A storyteller. But I find many of these
artists reside in the fantasy genre. Think Tolkien, Patrick Rothfuss, Charles
de Lint, J.K. Rowling. I read romance, too, mind you. I love Science Fiction
Romance. I love Space Opera.  Chick Lit. Historicals. You name it.
Currently, I’m rereading The Spymaster Series by Joanna Bourne. She writes
    historical romance. They are spectacular.
    Who is your favorite
character from fiction (not including your own)?
It’s true. You do really love your
own characters. Glad you specified. I hate to pick a favorite! Note my answer
to the favorite genre. Right now I’m in love with Grey in The Spymaster’s Lady
    because I’m reading about him. He’s love-worthy, believeyoume.  I have a
huge crush on Paul Atriedes from Dune by Frank Herbert. Okay, and now for a
female character. I really, REALLY like Jilly Coppercorn in Charles de Lint’s
urban fantasy novels. She crops up a lot in his books as a secondary character.
Her story was told in The Onion Girl. She’d be an awesome friend.
    What are you working
on at the moment, and will see from you in coming months?
Currently, I’m working on Episode 2
of  The Entean Saga.  Brightness Calling. It’s scheduled to be
    released this September.
    Please tell us about
    your latest book.
I’ve just launched a new series
that looks at over-population, planet’s resources and the need to protect Mother
Earth.  The fantasy touch with this
series is that all of the planets are sentient beings. The first book in the
series is Champion of Entean: Episode One of the Entean Saga. Here is the story
    summary:
    Champion! Something comes!
    It is not mine.
    I fear.
    Hurry, Champion!
And so begins the Entean Saga.
Eloch, the Champion of Entean, is
asked by the planet who loves him to travel light-years from his home to Spur,
a technologically advanced planet whose citizens are determined to colonize
    Entean.
And because Eloch loves his planet
Entean, he goes…only to discover that the vast power flowing through him, power
only a Champion can wield, vanishes the moment the spacecraft bound for Spur
    enters its first wormhole.
Now powerless and alone, how can
Eloch stop the colonization, as he has sworn to do?
    Meanwhile, on Spur, Sub-City
Kinlord Wren has her own problems. Sensing the imminent threat of a Culling, in
which the strongest of her Folk are taken to serve the UpperUppers who live
Above while the weak and old are killed, she must find a way to protect those
under her care. How can she give the Martials what they want while keeping
    those they don’t alive?
    Eloch and Wren—strangers from
different corners of the universe brought together by happenstance. When their
paths cross, it will change each’s mission to serve and protect, as well as the
    course of their very lives.

    Mjuka – An
    Original

During the founding of the original
“Old Empire” the planet Mjuka [myoo-ka] played a strategic role in defense.
Humans occupy the planet, though there are legends of a now-extinct catlike humanoid
creature. A few, rare sightings and partial fossils have inconclusively proven the
existence of the beasts. Recent reports of shape shifting cat/humanoids have surfaced
here, but there are no verified sightings. This has been considered a hoax.
There are five moons, all too small
to be of significance either for colonizing, raw material, or tactical location.
Mjuka remains pristine and has one of the clearest atmospheres in the Old Empire
sector. It was the first world to be duplicated by the Terraformer’s Circle of Fellowship.
New Mjuka does not have the same clarity in its atmosphere and is under study to
    correct the defect.
    The Terraformer’s Circle of Fellowship
created living conditions on New Mjuka patterned after Mjuka.

Ohy — Shipped to Oh Hell

Ohy gets its red color from sand and
rock. The black areas are its seas, and the greenish yellow is landmass. It was
the first planet to be created by the Terraformer’s Circle of Fellowship. Ohy is
in one of the farthest corners of the Tarthian Empire and is home to about 2.2 million
Armada soldiers. No civilians live here. Due to the isolation, soldiers are routed
here for no more than three tradestandard months (nine solar months on Tarth).
Civilians arriving on tour are allowed
to enter the main concourse, but are accompanied under guard. It is rumored that
ships created at the FIST are tested here before being sent to the fleet. Here is
the official denial that Ohy is a “dumping ground” for misbehaving soldiers:
“While it is true that some soldiers routed to Ohy on tours of duty have been
involved in less than stellar behavior, it is not true that duty on Ohy is considered
punishment.” It is interesting though, that slang for duty on Ohy is
“Shipped to Oh Hell.” Occasionally, civilians do manage to find their
    way into non-permitted areas.

    Sanity IV — Gone Forever

    Sanity IV – Gone Forever
Raw materials are invaluable to a space-going
empire in constant need of new ships and transports. The practice of “recycling”
a world is vehemently opposed by naturalistic factions, who believe every world
has the right to exist as is.
The planet Sanity IV is the fourth
in the Sanity system within the Tarthian Empire.

Because no sentient life was found
on any of the worlds, the Terraformer’s Circle of Fellowship decreed them targets
for reclamation. Animals were trapped and removed, water, ice, plants, trees, and
oxygen were captured and transported to storage or other terraforming worlds. Each
planet was dismantled by attaching habdrills, massive ships that bored into the
surface and created fractures into the core. The raw materials of the planet were
used in manufacturing of every type, and served as asteroid-type weapons. Miners
and their families lived in the habdrills, and over one million at a time could
be found in various parts of the scattered units. Because the planets were being
taken apart, once dismantled they were gone forever. In the Sanity system, the saying
became popular that working there meant your “sanity was gone.”

    The Terraformer’s Circle of Fellowship
uses the word GONE to denote the four stages of a planet’s dismantling process.
Total time is two hundred thirty years per planet.
    • G – Ground
forces collect all living creatures possible, categorizing and transporting
them to storage or other worlds. Also known as the Ark stage. Approximately
nineteen years from beginning of this phase to the next.
    • O – Orbits
destabilized – satellites disrupted, magnetic poles, gravitational fields,
and volcanic eruptions are rechanneled. Approximately one year from beginning
of this phase to the next.
    • N – Neutralization
      – habdrills arrive and begin full core penetration. Approximately ten years
to completely dismantle the remaining hulk from beginning of this phase.
    • E – Eliminate
threat of residue and residual damage by debris. Approximately two hundred
years to reset system to zero residue. Handled primarily by robotic and android
      forces.
Sanity IV is nearing the completion
of mining. A sports and entertainment arena similar to a habdrill orbits the planet,
and live feeds from The Virtual Dome are broadcast throughout the mining colonies
and fed to the entire empire via Imperinet, the Imperial Internet.
The origin of the name Sanity is lost,
but legend says it began as a slang term in a song sung by miners.

    5 Easy Questions: Amy Boyles Rendered @amyboylesauthor #RLFblog #dystopianromance

    Rendered
Amy Boyles author of Rendered answers five easy questions to
help readers get to know her better.

    Author
    Bio

After living in Chicago, Louisville and New York,
Amy finally settled in North Alabama with her husband. Along with writing, she has
a passion for cooking ridiculously fattening food and complaining about weight gain.
She loves to connect with readers.
    What’s your favorite down-home
    family style meal?
    I’m from the South and
though neither of my parents are from the area, they relocated us here when I was
five. However, it wasn’t until I was well into my twenties that I started eating
the down-home food. My favorite meal, without exception, would have to be Turkey
or Chicken and Cornbread dressing. Dear Lord. If you’ve never had cornbread dressing,
you haven’t lived. Seriously. I’ve made it enough times that I don’t use a recipe
anymore, but if you’ve never made it and you love to eat—find a recipe and try it.
Hopefully, you’ll thank me for the recommendation.
    What is your go-to meal
    when you dine out?
    Dining out? What’s that?
I have a toddler and am expecting another child, so I don’t get to do that anymore!
That question just depresses me. Just kidding. If I remember correctly, my go-to
meal used to be Chicken Tikka Masala at just about any Indian restaurant. I love
it. From what I understand, it’s not an authentic Indian meal, but seriously it’s
so freakin’ good it makes me happy just to think about it. Eating some of that with
warm naan bread and I’m in heaven. At least for the twenty or so minutes it’ll take
    me to eat it.
    Who is your “book
boyfriend” (that hottie you read about and drool over)?
This is such an easy question!
Hands down, my book boyfriend is Daemon Sadie from Anne Bishop’s The Black Jewels
Trilogy. If you’d asked me this maybe three years ago I would’ve said Richard Rahl
from the Sword of Truth series because there’s something honest in his altruism.
    But once I read Daughter
of the Blood and experienced the raw pain and deep suffering of Sadie, I was absolutely
won over. His character undergoes such an incredible arc over the span of that book
—from practically broken and brooding to being someone full of wondrous joy. It’s
an awesome journey to have been a part of. And he’s so sexy! It’s not even overt—he
simply is. Oh! And he’s dangerous, too! I wouldn’t want to cross paths with him.
If you’ve never read the book. Go. Buy. It. Now. Sadie is worth every cent.
    Tell us about your favorite
    toy as a child.
Ok, so I had this Wonder
Woman doll that I loved. Adored. I also had Wonder Woman underoos (aging myself,
I know) that I wore as a bathing suit. Why? Because I loved them. No, I didn’t care
that they were underwear. They signified Wonder Woman, and that was all that mattered.
    Anyhoo, I had this Wonder
Woman doll. Loved her…and then I lost her. I don’t know where. I probably left her
in a store or a bathroom or something. But I remember that I dreamed about getting
another doll because I adored her so much. I dreamt that I received this gift at
Christmas. Funny thing is, I don’t remember if I ever got another doll, all I remember
is I lost her and then dreamed I got her back. Ha! That’s sort of the story of a
romance novel, isn’t it? Two people come together, then something keeps them from
each other and then they wind up together in the end. Amen to that.
    When you read for pleasure,
what kind of books do you choose?
    I’ll read anything. Mostly.
I read romance—contemporary, historical, whatever catches my eye, but I mainly just
want a great story. Something that takes me for a ride. I think that’s why I read
a lot of fantasy. I want to live in a world and become part of it, learn how the
magic works and be surprised by the twists and turns that great fantasy writers
    throw into their novels.
    What I don’t read a lot
of is crime/mystery/suspense. Not because I don’t like it, but because I’m not as
familiar with the genre. By all means, if any readers have suggestions for great
books in those categories, throw them my way. I’d love to have more books to fill
    my Kindle.

    Genre Romance, dystopian

Ten years ago, Drian Becker underwent the Rendering, a humiliating body
exam imposed upon the masses by her father, a commander in the Patriot Army. Being
a high ranking official’s daughter, Drian thought she was safe from the practice—not
so. Her father’s betrayal left her emotionally scarred and dishonored.
It’s now 2098. Drian hasn’t thought about the Rendering since she became
leader of a rebel faction—mostly because she’s an expert at hiding her feelings
behind a thick outer wall of badass attitude.
All that changes when Colvin Hinton walks into her camp. With his easy
swagger and even easier demeanor, Colvin makes being a rebel look good enough to
taste. But when Drian finds herself tangled in his charms she lets down her guard,
giving an old enemy the chance to take her out once and for all.
If loving a man is this dangerous, would Drian have been better off remaining
in the clutches of her father and living with the scars of being Rendered?
