With her best friend murdered, the man believed to be partly responsible under the nose of her gun and a stranger looming in the shadows out for blood, Officer Elle Taylor is running out of time and people to trust. Will Elle risk crossing the line between attraction and revenge to take help from an unexpected source, before the murderer strikes again and leaves her life in flames?
Durant Kane is no stranger to trouble, especially the kind that comes with a gun trained on his face and an angry woman attached. But Elle’s something different, something unexpected and sweeter. He never could have imagined coming to feel so deeply about her, even if his own disastrous path in relationships hadn’t left him so wary. But he’ll have to take the risk if he doesn’t want to lose the woman he’s come to realize he can’t even think of living without.

    Interview

How did you get your start in the industry?
I got my start many years
ago when a small magazine published a short story I had written during down time
in college. Several years later I decided to pursue it again and to take the tumble
    down the rabbit hole.
What is the most important thing you do for your career now,
as compared to when you first started writing?
    A book needs nurturing
even after publication. I strategize more about where I am headed with the stories
I write and what I am trying to accomplish by writing it.
What websites do you visit daily?
    I always tune into Twitter
    and Facebook.
What do you enjoy most about writing?
    I enjoy creating worlds
with unique characters that take on a life of their own.
If you could give the younger version of yourself advice what
    would it be?
    Being a late bloomer
    is a good thing!
What is your work ethic when it comes to writing?
    I don’t force the words
to come. If that means some time away from the laptop, then I do it for the sake
of the story I’m trying to complete.
What do you think is the future of traditional publishing?
    I think traditional publishing
is finding a way to work successfully with new technology. I believe printed books
and e-books can live in harmony with a mutual respect for each other.
Imagine you get to go on a dream vacation, but you have only
one hour to pack and leave, and it starts as soon as you finish this interview.
What will you take with you and where will you go?
I would go to California and I would take
an overnight bag filled with essentials like my laptop, iPod, camera and few clothing
    items.
What is your favorite holiday and why?
    I like Christmas because
people are a bit nicer because they are filled with the holiday spirit.
If you were a color, what color would you be?
    I would be the color
blue. Blue is cool, fluid and it puts people at ease.
Please underline which statement is more like you:
“I am a vacation spa because I am laid back and relaxed.”
    “I am a ten-countries in ten-days tour vacation, because
I do things as fast as possible.”

    Please complete the sentences

I love pizza with Dr. Pepper soda.
I’m always ready for a Golden Girls marathon.
When I’m alone, I like to watch television.
You’d never be able to tell, but I like to crochet.
If I had a halo it would be glowing.
If I could travel back in time I’d learn how to sky
    dive.
I can never have a cat because I’m a dog person.

Boredom, what’s that? I have 3 young kids, a busy writing schedule
and a business to run. Where is the time for boredom? J
What do you wish I had asked you? Please ask and answer it
    now.
    What’s your upcoming book
    about?

visits, she realizes there is still so much about her husband she doesn’t know.
Benjamin’s remorse about his family history drives his actions.
Selina is his present and he’ll do whatever it takes to protect her from being contaminated
by his past, including revealing the shame that burns his soul.
But for Selina, finding out about Benjamin’s past means investing
emotionally in a man who’s only going to walk away once their temporary arrangement
comes to an end. Is she ready to bare her heart to him along with the secrets of
    their past?

    Interview

    What do you enjoy most
    about life?
Spending time with friends and family. One of my mottos is live,
laugh, love! Life is too short to be stressed. Stress can attack you physically,
so I try to live as stress-free as possible and leave negative people and negative
    situations behind.
    If you could give the
younger version of yourself advice what would it be?
Don’t stress the small stuff! It’s funny how the things that
seemed important to me when I was younger are completely irrelevant now. If only
    I’d known then what I know now…
    Do things your family
or friends do ever end up in a book?
Oh yes! For instance, in Second
    Chances
, Lucélia, the daughter of Renaldo’s cousin, was running around with
a yucca fry offering a bite to people who were over at the house. My niece likes
to “share” her food like that, too, although if you ever took a bite, she’d have
a fit. One day I was over at my sister’s, and my niece kept offering us a bite of
her French fry. She must have had it for a good hour and wouldn’t put it down, and
every now and again she’d walk up to me or someone else in the family and offer
us a bite. My niece is always doing the cutest things (I’m not biased; you’d think
so, too, if you met her).
    Which of your books would
you recommend to someone who doesn’t normally read your genre, and why?
Oh, that’s tough, because tastes are so subjective. But since
I have to choose, I’d recommend Private Acts.
It’s one of my most highly rated books. Readers seemed to really like Samirah’s
free spiritedness. I’ve also been told that the descriptions of Cuenca, Ecuador
helped the readers to feel as if they’d been transported to that locale, and the
sex between her and Miguel is smoking.
    What kind of books do
you read when taking a break from your own writing?
Romance, mysteries, thrillers. I also like to read books on the
writing craft, the occasional biography, or books about major events in history.
What do you do to relax?
I cook or watch movies. Netflix rocks!
    Imagine you get to go
on a dream vacation, but you have only one hour to pack and leave, and it starts
as soon as you finish this interview. What will you take with you and where will
    you go?
I’d take my Kindle, a bathing suit, underwear, and a couple of
changes of clothes, because my dream vacation will definitely involve a beach somewhere.
What do you like to do
    when you’re bored?
Eat. Yes, I know that’s terrible. Luckily, Netflix keeps me entertained
when I’m not hanging out with friends or doing something else, because staying at
home and being bored is dangerous. I find myself going to the fridge more often
    than not.
If you were a color, what
    color would you be?
Yellow, which happens to be my favorite color.
    Which statement is more
    like you:
“I am a vacation spa because I am laid back and relaxed.”
    “I am a ten-countries in ten-days tour vacation, because
I do things as fast as possible.”

    Please Fill in the Blanks

I love pizza with everything. Pile it full of meat and veggies!
I’m always ready for traveling. I plan to do even more in
    the near future.
When I’m alone, I read or watch movies.
You’d never be able to tell, but I’m a procrastinator. People
are always surprised when I tell them that because they think I’m so organized.
    I’m just an organized procrastinator.
